  • I've always been a fan of all things that fly, be it Civil, Military or TimeMachines from 80's Movies ;-) My friend Ray's favourite flying machine is the Concorde and his girlfriend very kindly purchased a gift voucher for him and +1 to go and visit G-BOAC at Manchester Airport. This video was shot with my iPhone 6s and edited using iMovie.

    I’ve just found out yesterday that your not (technically) allowed to record the WHOLE tour around Concorde at the RVP, because the people who work there now don’t want visitors to record every bit of whole thing because it is a (TOUR). That means people can see everything of that tour on UA-cam on any video. Sorry to put a downer but that’s what they told me.
    But the good thing is you CAN film, but it can only be like a 5 or 10 second quick video and the photos are fine as well. Hope this gives you an idea in mind for future reverence and visits. 😊

    Great Video Dean, I actually flew on a Nimrod in the 70,s and my profile pic is me on the flight deck of Concorde a few days after it's last flight into Manchester back in Nov 2003. I was an engineer back then for British Airways CitiExpress

    Great video Dean. Don't tell him cos I don't want to embarrass him, but Paul (@Iomadh) turned down a trip round Concorde at Manchester Airport when he was a toddler. We lived nearby at the time. His Uncle was a steward on Concorde at the time and we went to see him off. I remember watching it lift off, boy what a sight. Magnificent.

      I would have loved to have seen Concorde in flight, especially during take off. Hopefully one day it will be resurrected and used for displays. Thanks for watching and commenting

    I saw a Nimrod perform at an airshow at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware (USA) years ago. After doing all sorts of aerobatics, it landed and the crew started piling out of it... on and on... something like 13 people. It was nuts! It was an incredible experience to be sure.

    A short time before concorde was decommissioned, they were doing short 30 minute flights, take off, mach 1 then land for around I think , quote me if I'm wrong, 350 quid, haunts me to this day that me and the Mrs didn't do it 😭 but we was not to know at that time the outcome of concorde 😭

    • @DeanRead

      I think you're right mate, they were doing flights down to the Bay of Biscay and back from somewhere down south but I'm not sure of price. Gutted I missed out too :-(

    I was lucky to have flown on her (3) times, it was fantastic from check-in to boarding directly from the Concorde lounge at terminal 4 or JFK. However Heathrow lounge was a bit nicer I think.
    Nice menu if you wished or just many trays of canapés and finger sandwiches , with a full bar and old school bar keep.
    Dom P. & Taitinger Rose , and a vintage La tour and a white all on ice.
    Was a quick flight , really just enough time to enjoy 4 course meal with endless glasses of Krug and Le Grande Dame.
    Caviar and canapés , lobster fish cakes - Desert , cheese course w/fruit & biscuits and a great port. Tea / Coffee - espresso & digestifs plus Swiss chocolates were on offer.
    Sterling silver tie taks , money clips etc for departure gifts
    3hr 15 min flight was over very quickly and you gained 1.45 mins on the return land in NYC at 5pm leaving about 645pm from LHR…
    I do wish everyone that was viewing it , did have a chance to fly on her - it was a amazing flight - 60k ceiling and 1 mile every 2 seconds.
    Prior to 9/11 - everyone that wanted a to visit and have their Concorde certificate authenticated by captain could - FA would take ppl in pairs to HoT and tiny cockpit. I sat in jump seat behin the captain for 10-15 mins. And cld clearly make out the curvature of the earth at 60k and smooth as silk ride , above all turbulence!

    Nice video mate. Enjoyed watching that. They have one at Duxford and I couldn't believe how small and narrow they are. Shame one isn't still flying. Would be a crowd pleaser at air shows for sure.

    • @DeanRead
      @DeanRead  9 років тому

      Yeah I was very surprised too at how narrow it was, it really is a shame that it will probably never fly again. Maybe one day a private buyer will get one airborne again and take it to shows etc.

      We can but hope ay? Seeing as the Vulcan is inevitably going to be grounded very soon, we won't have anything let that is 'special'. Not even a Harrier although I think there was one at a show somewhere this year.

    if only Airbus and Rolls Royce could get 1 of them in the air again just to show off and for charter flights, would love see her fly again. Bet she would still make more money for Airbus than their A380 has in its lifetime so far.

    • @DeanRead
      @DeanRead  8 років тому

      +guitarplayerforu it's a shame really, would be great to see one back in the air as we don't even have a Vulcan flying now

    • @guitarplayerforu
      @guitarplayerforu 8 років тому +1

      +Dean Read it's a real shame Boeing or Airbus couldn't make a modern day version of concorde that only cost what say a 777 cost to operate and carried say 300-500 passengers. I think the nicest aircraft we have today is the 787 Dreamliner.

    • @DeanRead
      @DeanRead  8 років тому

      +guitarplayerforu agreed, I do like the A380 for size and comfort but the 787 is nice, only flown on that once myself

    It's a pity at the end of the video you said British Airways don't care anymore. If they didn't care, they could have sold the aircraft off, but they didn't because they do care. The aircraft were grounded following a decision by Airbus, the successor firm of Aérospatiale and BAC, to discontinue maintenance support. Without that, the licence to fly it would have been revoked by the Civil Aviation Authority due to airworthiness. This is why Air France and BA made the announcement to retire the aircraft on the same day. So any idea that it could have continued flying is misinformed. No concorde anywhere has flown since these retirements for this reason alone. Richard Branson said he would, but it was just false publicity over using his exuberant personality. Otherwise nice video. The concorde at Brooklands is worth a visit too.

    • @DeanRead
      @DeanRead  8 років тому +1

      Thanks for watching. When I mentioned about British Airways not caring I was quoting what the guide told us on the tour. I'm not 100% clued up on the ins and outs of why Concorde can't fly sadly myself but they did mention some of the facts you shared in your comment.

    • @jmasri2717

      Brittish Airways are hogging the concord and honestly couldn’t care less! There are many companies out there who expressed intrest in buying the concord fleet after BA anounced its retirement to keep them flying but Brittish Airways turned them all down for tge sake of keeping anyone else from gaining stature by flying SST.

    • @jmasri2717
      @jmasri2717 6 років тому +2

      My uncle works for BA and every day he sees the concord decaying in a cold hangar with rust trails dripping from its windows! BA would rather see it slowly die and disolve to rust than see it fit and flying in the hands of someone else! Careless dosent describe it!

    Did they tell you about the profit they DIDN'T make?!

    • @DeanRead
      @DeanRead  9 років тому +3

      Yep, they mentioned that after 9/11 the business market for London to NYC dried up overnight which eventually finished it off

    • @stevenbritton7133
      @stevenbritton7133 7 років тому

      profit it didn't make...?? ..concorde made 25% of British airways total profit for 20 years straight ..without question the most profitable aircraft in aviation history, you should do your homework my friend! !!!

    • @RichardHubbuck
      @RichardHubbuck 7 років тому +2

      Steven Britton During its time in service, Concorde’s profitability figures weren’t released by BA but it is understood that the service wasn’t a profitable enterprise. Fuel costs were significant and other incidents, such as the Paris crash, caused consumers to lose confidence in the aircraft. After the September 11 attacks in New York in 2001, passenger rates fell to less than 50%
