My Dad was an Air Traffic Controller in Oklahoma City and I will never forget how excited he was to drive my Mom, brother and I over to the airport and show us the new Concorde airplane that had flown in on a test flight. This was 1970 or 71. I thought it was the strangest thing I had ever seen, with the nose pointed downward and the wings shaped so oddly. Who knew that it would have become one of the most famous airplanes ever built. I won’t ever forget it. My Dad passed away two years ago and these memories just keep popping up. I miss him.
Lovely story. The Concorde & Lockheed SR71 Blackbird , the only 2 civil & military aircraft that had to be given due caution to each other in regards to their speed & operating height . Awesome
I grew up in Tulsa. Around 1974 or 75 it came to our airport and I went to see it take off. Beautiful. Strange how simply watching an airplane take off could become a lifetime memory.

Very hot in the galley. VERY noisy in the rear cabin. I however must say it was an experience I wouldn't have missed, after all I was a small part of aviation history. My all-time favourite aircraft was the Super VC10. The most beautiful piece of sculpture ever to fly.
Never forget the first time on flew on her was the increase in G. Being pushed into the seat not once but twice as the afterburners go on in pairs! The feeling of Raw power was unforgettable. 16 legs in total . Bless her.
Oh I envy you! I love concorde but, agree with you that the VC10 is an absolute beauty, sadly i have never flown on either. Is it true that the VC10 was quiet and fast, gently touching down? I have seen a few things on it but it never gets the praise it so richly deserves.

Captain Norris was my pilot, and Mike Bannister was in the First Officers seat on my flight from LHR to JFK on 04/03/2003 for my 40th birthday. Has to be the best experience of my lifetime, massively fantastic, sadly, never to be repeated!
I worked at Goldman Sachs in the 90s and whenever someone asks me what my best memories are of that time, I always say flying Concorde in January 1997. That’s always #1 or #2 on my list. I’m so glad I kept the boarding pass and the other materials they have us on that flight. Literally once in a lifetime for me.
Whoever played a part in designing, manufacturing and flying or serving on Concorde must feel a great sense of pride. Such an iconic and beautiful machine.
I use to live in a place called Swindon, and the Heathrow to New York route flew over our town and every time i saw this beautiful lady i use to wave at her, she had such grace and made me proud to be British.

Chris Norris was first officer during an older Concorde documentary. He was talking then about having to re-type-rate on a 757 in order to secure his promotion to Captain. So good to see that he eventually made it back to Concorde, as a Captain!
I lived in Hounslow for a while. Everyone would stop in the street a gaze upwards with their mouths open in awe when she came over. One day, my work took me to one of the giant airside commercial sheds directly in line with one of the runways. There was a commotion "You have to come outside, now!!!" Concorde was taxing about 75 m away to turn with her engines towards us. "Cover your ears, cover your ears!!!!" people shouted. I'm glad I did! Still not sure they have ever been the same! It is still a treasured vivid memory though.
Very interesting documentary! I saw Concorde just once in Heathrow when I sat in a Swissair Airbus A310 to fly back home to Switzerland. But Concorde gave me goosebumps and I love to remember this moment. 🤩✈️👍🏼
Brilliant video! I'm feeling a little emotional watching it. I had the privilege of flying to New York on Concorde back in 1993. An experience I will never forget, I have my own footage, which i treasure, as a passenger on take off and even visiting the flight deck in flight which you could never do now.
Many years ago I would watch the Concorde coming in for approach off the south shore of Long Island, NY. Everyday it was a new experience, feeling like a kid in a candy shop. At times I'd swear I could feel a rumble in my stomach from the low frequency bass those beautiful egines would give off.
She used to fly past where I live at 5.15 most evening, she couldn't fly slow enough to stack over Epsom like other planes so had to do a long lozenge shaped run due south to about Horsham 30 miles south of London,when you heard her you just had to look up even though she'd been doing it for more than 20 years, When she got to Horsham she banked hard over to the right for the return run and on a clear day the sun would catch her.WOW I still get goose bumps now thinking about it.
I really hope this beautiful aircraft makes a comeback someday. I remember being mesmerized everytime I saw it taxiing by at JFK when I was kid back in the 80's and 90's. It gave a certain glamour to the commercial aerospace industry, even if you couldn't afford to fly as a passenger with it. It gave everyone a sense of technological progress.
Agreed. It’s like the same feeling when you see a sports car on the streets. Not everyone can afford it, but it gives people the sense of purpose and the power to achieve things.

In the sixties I lived in West Gloucestershire 600ft above sea level. My first memory is of Concorde crossing the River Severn toward our house and turning for the return trip, probably to Fairford or Filton. The noise was more than deafening, the house vibrated and the ground shook. No decals and probably before noise suppression. Later I moved to London where Concorde overflew our house every day en route to Heathrow. On it's last flight I took my camera into the garden to get a final shot but the route was extended to allow more people to get a view of this wonderful aircraft. I missed a good shot. Previously we also heard sonic booms as Concorde flew up the Channel en route to Charles de Gaulle, a route that was also changed to relieve our eardums. Great days passed for ever from this crazy world.

Just went to see the Concorde parked at Brooklands museum in the UK. Such a master piece. They should bring it back considering some few flights to start with. I think there will be many people who will want to see the flight back in the skies.

It was great to see New York pre-911 skyline and the what was the Pan Am building who employed me at JFK flight control for years always so amazing to watch this very unique aircraft takeoff and land so many times ! I remember seeing her flying overhead at 6.30 pm every evening in my late teens. Was always a beautiful thing to behold. Everything seems to have gotten slower even Golf Gti's by engine size comparisons.....we're going backwards as alluded to earlier......so sad. Also to note that Concorde was developed before the calculator had been invented......THINK ABOUT THAT......how clever were these guys!!
I have actually been on board G-BOAC at Manchester AIRPORT, where her home is since the last flight. I really do miss seeing Concorde in the air, and hope that one day she might return, but I very much doubt it. it's just a shame that such a complicated fastest aircraft in the world should be in a museum... 1,350MPH....(1,980fps) That's roughly the speed of a 110gr bullet fired from an M1 .30 Carbine. Whereas a bullet is a solid mass that easily stays together in flight, the Concorde is a large object made of thousands of riveted parts and also manages to stay together at the same speed. Engineering is incredible.
While I agree the Concorde was awesome, comparing it’s structural integrity to a bullet is a stretch. Internet searches say the never exceed speed (Vne) is 585 knots (670 mph). In other words, at sea level the Concorde can only go 670 mph. Think about Vne like a limit on how rapidly the air molecules can impact the aircraft (let’s just say it’s 585 molecules per minute). At 60,000 feet altitude, the air molecules are spaced farther apart. Therefore, with that same limit of 585 molecules per minute, the aircraft will be traveling faster across the ground (compared to sea level) but it “feels the same” to the airframe because the molecules are spaced farther apart. A different way of comparing is if there were 2 aircraft, both flying 585 knots indicated airspeed….one aircraft at sea level and one aircraft at 60,000 feet. The sea level aircraft is in much thicker air and will have a much slower ground speed as compared to the aircraft at 60,000 feet. Comparing apples to apples….at sea level the M1 bullet is 1,350 mph and the Concorde is 670 mph. That’s still really fast for an airliner though.

Back in the Summer of 1975, I took my first flight overseas to Spain; loved it! But, as wonderful as that was, IF I'd only known "what was to come", I would have instead saved up to "Fly aboard The Concorde"!! Wow, oh wow... what a thrill that would have been to cross the Atlantic ... at Supersonic Speed!!!
I was a lucky, lucky girl. I flew on Concorde many times...thanks to contacts from my “Pa”. He loved her as much as me. It was an utter privilege to fly on her, and I never, ever took it for granted. I remember flying back from Barbados on my last flight before she was grounded. I was in tears, along with all the cabin crew. The most incredible aircraft, second only to the Spitfire. Happy days

Years ago the Concorde flew into Harrisburg International Airport on a promotional flight. Before landing the pilot took her over the Susquehanna River and over Harrisburg, where he banked sharply to come back to the field. The bank was so sharp the passengers on one side had to be looking straight down out their windows, whilst the other side could see nothing but sky! Many times we would see her fly over our house after taking off from Dulles, there was no mistaking that beautiful slim fuselage and the delta wing configuration. What a tragic end she came to after 30 years of faithful service, watching that video of the wounded Concorde trying to gain altitude is a sobering experience, may the crew and everyone on her that fateful day rest in peace. It'd be great to see an updated one fly again....

What an incredible bird she was. That roar from the reverse thrust on landing was amazing. I remember watching and hearing one take off from Paris and being blown away at the sheer noise of the thing. It got my attention because it sounded like nothing else I’d ever seen or heard.
Seeing and hearing Concorde in person was always huge experience - lots of airports slowed down operations to watch the ship depart. How sad that almost 30 years later, we are flying SLOWER than we should be by now. The Concorde to me, represented a transition aircraft that should have brought about hypersonic travel in the 90s.
Seeing the backdrop of Concorde against Bunratty Castle in my native Ireland is something rather special, given Captain Sir Mike Bannister’s test flights of Concorde between Heathrow & Shannon Airports, quite close to the old flying boat base at Foynes in Co Limerick on the River Shannon - and Concorde has even landed in Dublin at one point too 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧❤️
Very interesting video and an amazing aircraft still to this day. I desperately want to see another supersonic passenger aircraft in the future. Flying one would be amazing, but settling for seeing an operational SST would suffice.

OMG She used to fly past my window over the Thames 17:17 every night like clockwork with all the grace and deportment of a flying Swan. Brings cold shivers still, and what madness and futility clipped her wings and brought her to her knees?
I love this. I remember back in the 70s going to JFK to watch them take off. You could feel the rumble right through your chest. As a bonus... we often got a take off of an Aeroflot IL-62 which although not supersonic was indeed a strikingly beautiful plane with a powerful rumble on takeoff.

I lived in the DC area for a long time........ Sunday afternoons when out and about about 1pm used to regularly see the Concorde circling to approach Dulles. In the 70s I was hitchhiking in the UK and got picked up by a rolls Royce engineer with engine parts in the back seat he was taking to a testing lab He was like a Concorde evangelist.. told me all kind of stuff in two hours.. was really fascinating

The reason Concorde was retired had nothing to do with the aircraft itself, it was simply no longer economically viable for Airbus (the successor to Sud Aviation/Aerospatiale) to produce spares for such a small fleet of aircraft - and this was made harder by the problems that arose during the development of the A380. The downturn in aviation following the terror attacks in September 2001 was the final nail in the coffin.

None of these flew between 2001 and 2003 so Concorde passengers in these years in fact were the highest people around (although if someone was on ISS they weren't but I don't know if there were people on ISS at that time)

Apparently when Concorde was retired so was he. He refused to go back to being a captain on one of the lesser planes.

Can't believe she stopped flying almost 11 years ago. It was an honor to have been scared out of my wits as you tore past me on the Heathrow runway.

In the sixties I lived in West Gloucestershire 600ft above sea level. My first memory is of Concorde crossing the River Severn toward our house and turning for the return trip, probably to Fairford or Filton. The noise was more than deafening, the house vibrated and the ground shook. No decals and probably before noise suppression. Later I moved to London where Concorde overflew our house every day en route to Heathrow. On it's last flight I took my camera into the garden to get a final shot but the route was extended to allow more people to get a view of this wonderful aircraft. I missed a good shot. Previously we also heard sonic booms as Concorde flew up the Channel en route to Charles de Gaulle, a route that was also changed to relieve our eardums. Great days passed for ever from this crazy world.

Just went to see the Concorde parked at Brooklands museum in the UK. Such a master piece. They should bring it back considering some few flights to start with. I think there will be many people who will want to see the flight back in the skies.

Amazing video of an amazing airplane. It was great to see New York pre-911 skyline and the what was the Pan Am building who employed me at JFK flight control for years always so amazing to watch this very unique aircraft takeoff and land so many times !

I remember seeing her flying overhead at 6.30 pm every evening in my late teens. Was always a beautiful thing to behold. Everything seems to have gotten slower even Golf Gti's by engine size comparisons.....we're going backwards as alluded to earlier......so sad. Also to note that Concorde was developed before the calculator had been invented......THINK ABOUT THAT......how clever were these guys!!

I have actually been on board G-BOAC at Manchester AIRPORT, where her home is since the last flight. I really do miss seeing Concorde in the air, and hope that one day she might return, but I very much doubt it. it's just a shame that such a complicated fastest aircraft in the world should be in a museum... Unreal being abroad her... So so beautiful... Xxx

He was in luck to be first officer in cockpit with capt.John Hutchinson, legend of Concorde
1,350MPH....(1,980fps) That's roughly the speed of a 110gr bullet fired from an M1 .30 Carbine. Whereas a bullet is a solid mass that easily stays together in flight, the Concorde is a large object made of thousands of riveted parts and also manages to stay together at the same speed. Engineering is incredible.
While I agree the Concorde was awesome, comparing it’s structural integrity to a bullet is a stretch. Internet searches say the never exceed speed (Vne) is 585 knots (670 mph). In other words, at sea level the Concorde can only go 670 mph. Think about Vne like a limit on how rapidly the air molecules can impact the aircraft (let’s just say it’s 585 molecules per minute). At 60,000 feet altitude, the air molecules are spaced farther apart. Therefore, with that same limit of 585 molecules per minute, the aircraft will be traveling faster across the ground (compared to sea level) but it “feels the same” to the airframe because the molecules are spaced farther apart.
A different way of comparing is if there were 2 aircraft, both flying 585 knots indicated airspeed….one aircraft at sea level and one aircraft at 60,000 feet. The sea level aircraft is in much thicker air and will have a much slower ground speed as compared to the aircraft at 60,000 feet.
Comparing apples to apples….at sea level the M1 bullet is 1,350 mph and the Concorde is 670 mph. That’s still really fast for an airliner though.
Still is the best passenger plane EVER. Nothing will beat Concorde!
Gorgeous bird. Used to work for air freight companies in Colnbrook in the 80s and always set my car alarm off with her noise on reheats. What a sight though on take off at 200 feet....
Back in the Summer of 1975, I took my first flight overseas to Spain; loved it! But, as wonderful as that was, IF I'd only known "what was to come", I would have instead saved up to "Fly aboard The Concorde"!! Wow, oh wow...

I was a lucky, lucky girl. I flew on Concorde many times...thanks to contacts from my “Pa”. He loved her as much as me. It was an utter privilege to fly on her, and I never, ever took it for granted. I remember flying back from Barbados on my last flight before she was grounded. I was in tears, along with all the cabin crew. The most incredible aircraft, second only to the Spitfire. Happy days

Most beautiful and advanced plane ever....
Years ago the Concorde flew into Harrisburg International Airport on a promotional flight. Before landing the pilot took her over the Susquehanna River and over Harrisburg, where he banked sharply to come back to the field. The bank was so sharp the passengers on one side had to be looking straight down out their windows, whilst the other side could see nothing but sky!
Many times we would see her fly over our house after taking off from Dulles, there was no mistaking that beautiful slim fuselage and the delta wing configuration.
What a tragic end she came to after 30 years of faithful service, watching that video of the wounded Concorde trying to gain altitude is a sobering experience, may the crew and everyone on her that fateful day rest in peace. It'd be great to see an updated one fly again....

What an incredible bird she was. That roar from the reverse thrust on landing was amazing. I remember watching and hearing one take off from Paris and being blown away at the sheer noise of the thing. It got my attention because it sounded like nothing else I’d ever seen or heard.
Maan I am a B777 pilot, love it so much but this is the only plane I'm envy! :D Those crew who flew it are very lucky people :)

Seeing and hearing Concorde in person was always huge experience - lots of airports slowed down operations to watch the ship depart.
How sad that almost 30 years later, we are flying SLOWER than we should be by now. The Concorde to me, represented a transition aircraft that should have brought about hypersonic travel in the 90s.
I still smile everytime I see them smashing the throttles forward :D

Seeing the backdrop of Concorde against Bunratty Castle in my native Ireland is something rather special, given Captain Sir Mike Bannister’s test flights of Concorde between Heathrow & Shannon Airports, quite close to the old flying boat base at Foynes in Co Limerick on the River Shannon - and Concorde has even landed in Dublin at one point too 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧❤️
Cpt Brian Walpole gave me a personal one 2 one guided tour of this particular Concorde in 1982 at Heathrow.
Very interesting video and an amazing aircraft still to this day. I desperately want to see another supersonic passenger aircraft in the future. Flying one would be amazing, but settling for seeing an operational SST would suffice.

I love this. I remember back in the 70s going to JFK to watch them take off. You could feel the rumble right through your chest. As a bonus... we often got a take off of an Aeroflot IL-62 which although not supersonic was indeed a strikingly beautiful plane with a powerful rumble on takeoff.

I got to see one take off from London in 99. It was magnificent.
I lived in the DC area for a long time........ Sunday afternoons when out and about about 1pm used to regularly see the Concorde circling to approach Dulles.
In the 70s I was hitchhiking in the UK and got picked up by a rolls Royce engineer with engine parts in the back seat he was taking to a testing lab He was like a Concorde evangelist.. told me all kind of stuff in two hours.. was really fascinating
How about Phil Collins playing Wembley and then later that evening Philly for Live Aid 85. Couldn’t have been possible without Concorde. Oh how good were the 80’s

Richard knows, he's often said he wanted to do this, and in fact approached air France, to see if he could get one. Sadly, they said no.

The reason Concorde was retired had nothing to do with the aircraft itself, it was simply no longer economically viable for Airbus (the successor to Sud Aviation/Aerospatiale) to produce spares for such a small fleet of aircraft - and this was made harder by the problems that arose during the development of the A380. The downturn in aviation following the terror attacks in September 2001 was the final nail in the coffin.

None of these flew between 2001 and 2003 so Concorde passengers in these years in fact were the highest people around (although if someone was on ISS they weren't but I don't know if there were people on ISS at that time)
