I remember I used to run out of to my garden every time to watch it fly past on final into London Heathrow hearing its gorgeous roar. To think my country and next door neighbours France made this together we can be immensely proud and shows what we are capable of when we also come together. These days we have self serving checkouts back in the 70s they had SST majestic jets like Concorde. Proper human feats of legendary engineering design and craftsmanship. I wish I got to fly on one. I’ve flown and worked in aviation one regret I wish I could do but I got to see it fly over my head on final, so I’ll take that. God bless Concorde
I worked on the design of this aeroplane in the 60 s and still get choked up watching this beautiful machine . When being an Englishman meant something .
I used to work off the Kings Road, London and bang on time 5:45 Concorde would fly in from the east. I would hear her coming before I even saw her, it’s was at that time I knew it was time to commute back home. Concorde was an absolute beast & marvel for Aviation, thank you for the memories 👌🏽
I was only 1 when these beauties were retired. My whole life I’ve dreamed of being able to fly on one, saddened knowing that isn’t possible. Concorde has been a key part in my interest in planes, anything mechanical really. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing 2 of them in person, and even just a museum piece, it was incredible seeing the aircraft. Here’s to a future supersonic passenger plane 🤞🏼
i relate alot, i was born in 2002 and I wish I could have seen it fly! Soon there will be a high quality version of the concorde in the flight simulator made by FSLabs so I'll fly it there :)
I’m lucky enough (maybe) that I’m old enough to have seen it, although I never got to fly on it. A take off was just something else - hanging around at the end of Heathrow’s runway on a Sunday evening, and it came over so much lower than the other aircraft, and with four huge shockwave afterburner flames coming out of the back. The noise was so deafening, it would shake your whole body to the bones, and instantly every car alarm in the car park went off in unison. A B1 Lancer take off on full reheat might come close, but the grace of Concorde in flight will never be matched. And then comes the landings... seeing it approach all reared up and menacing, and the roar as the reverse thrusters kicked in seemed like it was all dramatic, but with her speed and absolutely perfect pilotage, it was like watching a swan land on a mirror flat lake. Utterly beautiful. Possibly the only man made thing I think was truly legendary in both design and execution. It saddens me to know you’ve also fallen in love with Concorde, but won’t be able to share those experiences.... or at least for now!
I believe the concorde was a incredible piece of engineering, something that was conceived in the 60's, even with computers in the early stages of understanding and development able to achieve mach 2, fly London to New York in just over 3.13 minutes deserves to be in Avionic History, 4 Roll Royce turbines powering it, it is any wonder, sad to see these decommissioned in 2003, I found the history of these fine aircraft most interesting, cheers mate
Even after all these years since she's being retired i stay mesmerised by the mere sight of her , i had the opportunity to view her up close once and what a sight she was.
This series was wonderful. I toured Concord and sat in the cockpit in the one parked in Manchester. It was one of life's most thrilling occasions for me.
My ultimate dream is to go see one of these old birds, in my opinion this is one of the most iconic and beautiful aircraft every built. I wish I was able to have had the opportunity to fly on her, but I had just turned 11 when the Concorde retired
Never flew on Concorde sadly, would not have been able to afford it. Did see and hear her fly over a few times. The most beautiful aeroplane ever built. I do wish Concorde could fly again somehow. Apparently the maintenance was very, very costly and Airbus made sure the parts were very expensive. A combination of the tragic crash in Paris in 2000, the fall-out from 9/11, and the high maintenance costs brought this glorious aeroplane down on to the ground for good. Just look how proud those pilots and engineers are to have flown Concorde. Felt sorry for the pilots on the training course, who clearly would not have had long Concorde careers. I reckon Concorde could fly again if there were a mega rich business tycoon ready to take on the project. There would always be demand on the route to and from NY and they could bring back all the charter flights too. Concorde was in service for 30 years and had only one fatal crash, which highlighted the problems it had sometimes had with it's tyres shredding. It had a great safety record.
What a great video of such an amazing aircraft.. Was lucky to see here fly into Christchurch back in 1999/2000.. The world stopped to watch everytime..
I never flew on Concorde..But, I once saw one on the tarmac at JFK. I was VERY impressed because it looked like no other plane, and just seeing it was an AMAZING experience!!
When staying on a family farm in Hampshire, which is on the flight path for Heathrow, you could always tell when Concord was coming as the noise was a lot louder than the other aircraft
The Concorde is the must beautyful bird in the sky, there is nothing out there like that machine. If there only could update the engines to fly her more more efficently, that would be amazing. Such a awesome plane, fantastic design, i love the classic flightdeck, no digital stuff like the actual planes. Love that bird, hope she will be back soon!
I didn't fly on her, but my brother did quite often, and he said: flying early to New York, doing your banking-business and fly back in mid-day, you almost arrived at the same time you left Europe!
Concord 2.0 we are ready for its comeback, the need to fly faster is growing bussinesmen that are becoming interested on supersonic flights in 2022, maybe Britain and France will reconsider the return of the Concord.
Boom Supersonic is building the Overture supersonic plane. Factory is in Greensboro, NC. Maybe you’ll fly on it one day. United was the first to get an order in.
amazing ,unbelievable safest speed bird machine in the world .i did not compare concord any other plans.i miss very much this beautiful speed bird machine.
sandro sordi The accident was the final for B.A.. The operation cost of that plane where huge, it use a great amount of fuel and it was also not environment friendly. Also the equipment was beginning to get out of date.
@@tom196207 Under the new airport noise abatement standards and policies in force at many airports, the Concord would not be able to fly to those destinations. Plus the analogue cockpit and 3 man crew does not make this airplane very attractive to operate for many airlines as well. It has lived its time and played its part. This marvelous bird is now laid to rest and I am sure that there are new supersonic or even hypersonic designs on the drawing board.
Why oh Why has the one at Grantley Adams in Barbados------been closed to the public--It was a great experience AND kept indoors---What is happening with it ?
Beautiful aircraft. Not 747-8i beautiful but definitely second in line. I had the honor to fly from JFK to Heathrow 2 months before AF-4590 crashed and I can say there's NOTHING like it. The food was amazing and aside from getting fucked up drunk on the plane, I don't remember the trip to London that much but the trip back home to the U.S. I stayed sober. All of the aircrew, including pilots, would make you feel like they had known you for years. Had someone else not paid for my $21,000 dollar ticket I never would've been able to fly on her. Sad to see her go. The Concorde club that's trying to get her back in the air will never happen. I'd love to see it happen but I seriously doubt it will.
Absolutely disagree... the Concorde is still the Queen of the skies, and hardly any military aircraft can match her even today, especially on long flights (no refueling😊 in midair).
There is a way. She could easily be brought back into service. I reckon Richard Branson will figure it out. He tried to purchase the fleet a few years ago. Lets see what happens in the next few years. People just don't care about beautiful engineering anymore. ''Too much pollution blah blah blah'' - These climate crisis activists aren't helping either. The worlds gone soft... I hope one day she returns to the sky!
In the early 1990s, BA could not fill Concorde. If you had a return business class ticket to New York for a sub-sonic flight, for an extra £50 you could do one leg on Concorde. We all did it!
Thanks for posting this video. I've never flown - don't do heights! lol - but if I ever do, I want it to be on this example of British/French co-operation at its best. So long 'Speed Bird' and thank you.........
"Speedbird" is the callsign for all British Airways aircraft, not Concorde; if British Airways flew Sopwith Camels, they'd still call in as "Speedbird something" (if they had radios...)
Rich or poor it's nice to have money. Never flown on it as a passenger. With a couple of flight attendant friends we were invited aboard a test plane in Casablanca or somewhere around there. We had a couple of hours to kill at this non routine stop. We went for short sub sonic ride. No matter it's still is the most incredible flying machine. One thing I will say, even at idle those engines are deafening.
Do BA pilots still have to retire when they reach 55? Is that exactly on their 55th birthday or do they get some leeway, say just before their 56th birthday?
ianrkav it is 65 now. But very strict, you can’t fly the day after your 65th birthday. Normally you’ll get a “retirement trip” - where you can choose where you go (and to some extent who the other crew are) on your last flight. Though Covid has ruined that for many retirees...
Great film about a beautiful aircraft. Just for information most aircraft can fly faster than the earth rotates - it’s just a question of latitude. 😄☹️
Where is she now? Moder technology should have 'ironed out' the problems of fuel efficiency, etc...... The possibility of being able to get there quicker, and more economically......?
It is clear to me that the Brit's do not have the balls to bring Concorde back into service. As an experienced aero. engineer, I would gladly take on this task. [Aussie in BC]
The Concorde never made a dollar and was always in the red. After they were no longer used they were "technically sold" for $1.00 dollar each. It was said that was far more than they were worth !
I can't get enough of the Concorde.

Great documentary- sad that it was made just before the dear old girl was retired. What a loss! 😢
Brilliant.... I remember my flights well. Flying now is a pain.

It is absolutely criminal that The concorde that sits at heathrow is just left out on the field in total disrepair makes me want to cry

Concorde what a beauty
Great program. Felt bad for the pilots being retired at 55.
Hard To Trump Concord Such a Legend Aircraft.
I lived west of Heathrow and would regularly see and hear the paper aeroplane shaped white arrow flying overhead on it's way to NYC.

Beautiful aircraft. I was still at school when they were finally grounded. It is astonishing no commercial supersonic aircraft has replaced it.
thank you for sharing
My pleasure.
So sad that such amazing aircraft was grounded . What a great peace of engineering.
I hope we get to see concorde ‘alive’ again. Maybe a tour in 2023 to mark 20 years since retirement?
Glad this speedbird touched down.in my city Nairobi!

Thanks for the upload! The fight online between 747 and 380 of who is the best aircraft seems petty after watching this!
But still, for the record, I would always go with a b747-400.

What is the classical song playing at the start when they’re pushing it out of the hangar? It has been in my head for weeks!
A little late replying to this 😅 but the track is called “Carmen Suite #2: Habanera”
Earlier they mentioned the charter flights from Bournemouth, I live there had I known they they flew from there I would have begged my dad to take me.
Excellent documentary, sadly both shoes dropped soon after this optimistic ending
No but my brother was in the army stationed in Germany at one point in the REME. He never reached that rank however.
Thanks. This is great !
Worlds most expensive airliner. Mere mortals could not easily afford the ticket to sit in it.
