Hi Bob -- Thanks for the tip on the Zolder vid. I have been enjoying that one now for more than three years. Until I saw the Marc Canfield Spa video, it was the best for all-out aggressive, fast-paced Healey racing. I also enjoy the Jaap Sinke Le Mans Classique and Spa videos from the past several years. All are really great. I don't know how I missed this Canfield Spa video. It is really terrific! Best, Cliff
Felt sorry for the other Healey driver who got taken out by the overly-ambitious E-Type at the end. I think you got under his skin a bit... Brilliant drive!
really nice drive , congragulations ! It looked as if you had a nice power advantage on most of those cars . I learned to drive on a healy 3,000 . I don't remember having quite that amount of pick up :)
One of the best sounding engines ever, like 3000 angry lions fighting under the bonnet. Clattering over the rumble strips in Eau Rouge is a bit scary in such an old car though!
I own an 1960 Austin Healey Sprite, and I love watching racing. Wow!! What a treat to watch you skill through the ranks to come out on top. Nice driving mate!!
Do I hear overdrive shifts? The overdrive in my BJ-8 died so I took it apart. At the time there were plenty of big Healeys in the wrecking yards, and $150 got you a replacement transmission with overdrive out of St Louis. I went to the BMC dealer in Milwaukee and was told "the next overdrive we take apart will be the first one", which was all the challenge I needed. Turns out a sintered metal thrust bearing broke apart and scored the accumulator and that, combined with the additional axial free play, caused the conical clutch to no longer engage. I don't remember if I bought a new accumulator or made a new one, but I did focus on the cam-driven pump. I knew I wanted the overdrive to split the big ratio gap between second and third. I added a poppet valve in the threaded plug at the bottom of the pump. The result was that the accumulator pumped up within a few feet of driving. Electrically I took out the inhibitor switch and added a ratchet relay controlled by a momentary pushbutton on the gear shift. A warning light on the dashboard alerted me to not use reverse. Triple 45 DC0E's made for a great sound. A Panhard rod made for better handling.
in 70's pretty much did the same thing, on the "Sebring" trans, would use O,D. between 2 & 3, (like a hydro trans) basically had a close ratio 6 speed . didn't use OD on 3 usually. Early 60's - mid 80's , 3 100/6s, 2 3000's. Last one , 59 100/6 , 65 motor, P&P head, cam, lightened flywheel, Aeroquip, (then went to airport for it) dual caliper f/ discs, was a $300 body on way to crusher, gutted it down to 2200lbs, even took out bracing on hood, trunk, on street illegal as hell! I miss that car!!!
The etype killer! This guy is amazing, aggressive, and gets in the heads of the cars in front of him. It's ok if you don't let him by. He'll help himself to the next spot as you go spinning off the track. No contact either.
Was so engrossed at watching the Healey passing every car on the track. He took each corner and bend in the same place every time. Could just see the Jag get flipped , Only one other racing driver who took the same line lap after lap was Jaun Manuel Fangio. Probably the greatest racing driver ever.
Awesome driving Marc. E-Types, Bizzarini's- is there anything that Healy won't toast! Fantastic straight 'six sound too. A real treat and thanks for posting.
So funny how the Jags can't take it when the Healey is all over them! They crash and spin off everywhere! Marc's driving is in a totally different league - thanks for posting :)
It is likely a Rootes-specific modification...those models were rated at 248hp...of course, other mods were done...But that basic Healey 6 cyl is a brutish gem, and what a sound!
Fun to see you drive this beauty on the track passing all your compatadors in front of you. I bet you modified the suspension driving those incredible lines.
Great vid and some fantastic driving, one of the best classic Spa vids on here. Full race 3000 by the looks of it? Who's the plonker that clicked dislike?
If only you could bottle that sound - no modern car comes close! Big Healeys and E-types (but only the convertibles) have got to be 2 of the prettiest cars ever made, but its great to see them being driven in anger like this.
Very very good, what a technic. I wish I could see this kind of race on a cinema screen. By the way,I would be interested to know a little bit more about this 3000 !
On second thought, are you powershifting on the upshift with heel toe on the downshift or are you outright left foot breaking? Whatever it is, it sounds amazing.
I know those old 3000s were fast but some of those cars are worth more than a million bucks. Were they scared or were you really blowing them away that easily?
You have a 3000? I have a 63. Let the car go, put it down watch the Rpms come up. You will be doing 100mph in a hurry. And it’s so light 148hp feels impressive. Make sure you have good spokes before a 100+mph run though
Thanks for this video, am in my 70's, had AH's for years , miss them and the era(s) , from comments maybe solves a trans question, seen on several videos, did have one with the Sebring trans and I wouldn"t dare going into first, tho did double clutch a few times, . Damn , it sounds so good!!!! (brothers name is Marc! ) this is making my day!!!
Marc -- I've been a Healey aficionado since about 1957, own a '62 BT-7 Mk II , and have followed Healey racing from Limerock to Road America to Sebring to the LeMans Classique. I've also spent plenty of time surfing UA-cam for good Healey racing videos. This is the best! Who's car is that number (1)98? Great driving, on a difficult and fast course. Well done! Cliff
Wow. There is a lot of trust placed in the other drivers through the first part of eau rouge- on one or two occasions i would have been too windy of causing a red flag and being jet-washed off the tarmac
Your drive is really consistent! I think that you use Dunlop CR65, and you are able to get a great performance! I don't know the others drivers in this race, but I think that are all too gentlemen..........
The personification of....."Drive it like you stole it"....thanks for the excellent ride.
Also like you don’t care, he was really pushing other drivers and his own car. Not afraid to test his limits, he is skilled and wild.
Now, finally a driver who really is pushing his Healey! Awesome!
~ The best track footage I've seen in a long time ---
My favorite always...A fine tuned Healey 3000 will always be a Memorable Machine. Great Driving!!!!
Engine sounds , acts like a 6 cyl BDA..! FEROCIOUS , AND LOW END GRUNT TOO..! Bravo whoever built this car..!
Goddamn that car sounds amazing, nice driving Marc, as always.
Great to see this classic British sports car attacking the Spa thanks for posting Marc
Superb drive!
3000 at full chat, eating everything in its path. What's not to like?
Amazing! I've never seen a Healey go so fast!
What a driver, what a car, awesome
I race cars professionally for a living thanks to this guy! He was my karting mechanic in go karts! He has some serious talent! The car is his dad's

That was oil on the track from someone else's car letting go!
E-Type was being a real tool running defensive lines and losing time for both himself and the Healey. Then way too hot into the hairpin.
OMG Healeys rule,... get out of the way, coming through!!!
FANTASTIC
really nice drive , congragulations ! It looked as if you had a nice power advantage on most of those cars . I learned to drive on a healy 3,000 . I don't remember having quite that amount of pick up :)
One of the best noises in motoring
absolutely fantastic, that is superb sound from an old 6 cylinder iron lump!!
I used to have a Healey 3000 Mk2. It didn't sound anything like that and certainly didn't handle like that either!
Awesome,......just plain down awesome.
One of the best sounding engines ever, like 3000 angry lions fighting under the bonnet.
Clattering over the rumble strips in Eau Rouge is a bit scary in such an old car though!
Superbe remontée , cette big Healey c'est un avion ,avec un pilote tres TRES FORT !!!!!!
I own an 1960 Austin Healey Sprite, and I love watching racing. Wow!! What a treat to watch you skill through the ranks to come out on top. Nice driving mate!!
firetruck your car can handle!!! sweetest sound a healey on full noise!! thank you for sharing :-)
Bravo! Thoroughly enjoyed watching!

Absolutely fantastic stuff!!!!
Awesome footage - love it : )

am old enough to remember Fangio, but one other so consistent was Graham Hill, Then, he was who I admired, Stirling Moss same thing.
Awesome driving Marc. E-Types, Bizzarini's- is there anything that Healy won't toast!
Fantastic straight 'six sound too.
A real treat and thanks for posting.
Great Drive, footage, sound at an awesome track. Healey's Rule!
Am willing to bet that this is not the standard 3.0litre motor but rather the optional all alloy 4.0litre engine that pushes out over 300 HP.
V8 Supercar racing appears on TV screens in 130 countries so it's obvious that there are more than a few people who find it exciting.
Wonderful controlled aggro driving...nice work Marc
Amazing driving sir!
The way he got rid of the black car. Nice.
Great driving Marc! ❤
So funny how the Jags can't take it when the Healey is all over them! They crash and spin off everywhere! Marc's driving is in a totally different league - thanks for posting :)
I would love to know what mods have been done to this Healey to get that kind of performance.
It is likely a Rootes-specific modification...those models were rated at 248hp...of course, other mods were done...But that basic Healey 6 cyl is a brutish gem, and what a sound!
Beautiful move in the beginning following the Eleven to get underneath the E-Type. The move on the GT350 on the curbs was a little hairy.
Wonderful!
Fun to see you drive this beauty on the track passing all your compatadors in front of you.
I bet you modified the suspension driving those incredible lines.

Fast & fabulous !

Well turned out....fast and very stable handling...BUMPY BITS TOO...LOL CONGRATS..! Well done and no prisoners taken....
Going well this healey well driven.
USE all the road man......and some edge! Lovely video-great exhaust inlet gear and tyre sounds!
Nice driving.
Awesome 'soundtrack' ;)
Get the hell out of my way!
Would like to know what motor this great car was running.
Very very good, what a technic. I wish I could see this kind of race on a cinema screen. By the way,I would be interested to know a little bit more about this 3000 !
Hallucinant !
Marc, fantastic vid! My Father has just bought a Healey 3000 mk3. What exhaust system do you have on yours? It sounds absolutely amazing!
Oh my God, that was f >>>>>g GREAT !!! My heart is pounding.
Music to my ears
On second thought, are you powershifting on the upshift with heel toe on the downshift or are you outright left foot breaking? Whatever it is, it sounds amazing.
That's quick!
Wow Marc. Fabulous..
Great race
Great drive Marc, 2 wheels off on every corner................sweet!
BTW, what caused you to start at the back of the grid?
That's MY kinda Healey!
You are amazing 😍😍😍
Can't believe you didn't bottom out on the curbing. You really whipped the little bugger.
I know those old 3000s were fast but some of those cars are worth more than a million bucks. Were they scared or were you really blowing them away that easily?
This would be the best fun I could ever have, If I ever win on the lottery I will give this a go..
Does anyone know the finishing position??? Great vid
Great driving
9.30 well done both of you
That must have been a great race. All those classic cars in one big race on a beautiful track. Can it get any better?
fantastic, wish my Healey could drive like that
You have a 3000? I have a 63. Let the car go, put it down watch the Rpms come up. You will be doing 100mph in a hurry. And it’s so light 148hp feels impressive. Make sure you have good spokes before a 100+mph run though
Piece of cake.
I would have liked seeing the tach and speedometer
Total!
What track is this and where is it?
A field of dreams youtube is
This is how you drive a Healey.
Thanks for this video, am in my 70's, had AH's for years , miss them and the era(s) , from comments maybe solves a trans question, seen on several videos, did have one with the Sebring trans and I wouldn"t dare going into first, tho did double clutch a few times, . Love watching this.... BTW.. the old Ford flatheads had (aftermarket) nice little chrome head bolt caps, which fit on Healey head bolts, looks nice!
Unbelievable driving , you must have a 4 litre under the bonnet surely .
What was your lap time Marc?
Epic. I wish F1 sounded like this.
great sound, terrific driving - and you passed a mustang - doesn't get any better.
Marc -- I've been a Healey aficionado since about 1957, own a '62 BT-7 Mk II , and have followed Healey racing from Limerock to Road America to Sebring to the LeMans Classique. Cliff
Cliff Black hi sorry I never replied the car is my fathers and we still have it, hopefully gonna get her out racing again this year
Marc
lads in those cars are luckiest men alive!
Lovely the way he let that Jag reach the point where his speed jumped past his skills. Big OOPS....
The noise. My god the noise.......
Wow. There is a lot of trust placed in the other drivers through the first part of eau rouge- on one or two occasions i would have been too windy of causing a red flag and being jet-washed off the tarmac
Im guessing your running a short ratio gearbox because I could never powershift a stock healey like that.
One wonders if that car was a Healey 3000 only in name?
Epic drive Marc...how do you sit down with balls that big mate?!? And WTF at 16:34 with the E-Type nearly t-boning poor Chris Clarkson????
Gotta be a 7 main bearing diesel block or MGC motor.
I think so too, 7 mains Block...
Your drive is really consistent! I think that you use Dunlop CR65, and you are able to get a great performance! I don't know the others drivers in this race, but I think that are all too gentlemen..........
Everyone-trying to preserve their classic vs this lunatic
Stock or fully race prepped, there's nothing that sounds as good as a Big Healey, running through the gears
Would love to drop that 6 pot in a Westminster :) love this video, got some skills behind the wheel
Goes a lot better than my Wessie did back in the 60s...it was first car.
The guy in the German E-Type lightweight :-)
Watch this when I won't a lift magnificent
The Healey is real time. A working class commercial engine with no Italian fine art Input. I know because I restored one of the pigs.
This is porn. I can't say how much I love this turning technique.
Come hear to watch your favorite car, seeing other cars wreck PRICELESS :)
