  • To bring some context to this epic battle, I’ll set the scene
Peter Hopwood was a professional racing driver, local to Bathurst and a very proficient Australian racing driver. At this race, extremely unfortunately, Peter was ill with bowel cancer and would actually pass away some months later. Due to his illness, he was unable to move his left leg up and down, he could only move it in and out, so he had a strap around his knee so he could pull his leg up to the clutch. Apparently a lot of the race he shifted without clutch 😲. For those of you who don’t know Bathurst, it’s arguably one of the most iconic circuits in the world and an incredible challenge. Peter was able to manhandle the number 20 100/6 around the track and on his last ever race and lap at the iconic Bathurst, he managed to put one over Denis Welch and nearly beat him, all to suffer what looked like an engine failure and ultimately locking the rear wheels on the third last corner. Long live Peter Hopwood - a true Australian Racing Legend!!!
