- A North Carolina couple had their first baby later in life, and now their decades-long fertility story is inspiring others.
We caught up with mom and dad Susie and Tony Troxler, ages 50 and 62, on how life is going as new parents, what they think about their story going viral, and how they handle some of the responses to their later-in-life pregnancy and birth.
Susie was down to her final embryos, and then, she welcomed her baby girl Lily in September.

@@gabrielleivie4585 - It seems it was her egg, as thy were not trying at the time under a Dr. care. If a woman has not yet reached menopause, the possibility of conception still exists, even if it is exceedingly unlikely.
That baby is gonna have a great life! And definitely be spoiled! This is so encouraging! I'm 45 and still trying. My husband is 50. Pray for us! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I gave birth at 40, 42 and 45. All healthy and naturally conceived. Truly blessed
So much for the myth that fertility "drops" after 35. I think it's mostly to guilt women. While it's up to the parents, I can't fathom a kid at my age at 51 almost 52.
This gives me hope. I got so depressed Because I’m 34 and don’t have any kids. I often worry if I would have the energy. I’m grateful for my freedom but it makes me sad to think that I may not have a lot of time as if I would’ve had if I had a kid at 24 :(. Maybe one day

@@roddma She gave birth due to egg donation. The egg donation industry can be quite exploitative of young women. See the documentary "Eggsploitation." I think you have to be younger than 30 or 32 to donate eggs, thus the eggs of older women are less viable generally. Bc of how exploitative the egg donation and surrogacy industries are of young poor women and mothers, I think it is best for women to conceive their own biological children if they can, or to adopt. This avoids wealthier, whiter, women exploiting poorer women, often of color. For women all over the word, 35 yrs old at delivery is advanced maternal age, and pregnancy after 40 is rare by comparison. Geriatric mothers are the exception, not the rule, and many have had several children at a younger age, which may help.

I’m 29 now and my mom had me at 37, my sister at 40. I’m healthy (well uhh relatively🤣) and I loved having an older mother. She was way more patient than most other children’s mothers. I’m very happy for you!
I was adopted by an older couple. Dad was in his 60's, mom in her 50's. I'm 24 and dad is dead, mom is 80. I don't regret it. Wouldn't change it for the world. Best childhood ever lots of love. I only wish I had more time with my dad.

Not really this is what we call science there is nothing unexplainable about this- if the baby was naturally conceived and with own eggs that would have been miraculous but done with donor eggs you can get pregnant and at 70

The reality is that it is very, very unlikely for a woman to naturally become pregnant at 50. And, what’s more, it is equally unlikely that she can do so using IVF… IVF using your own eggs over 40 has a very low chance of a live birth.
Most women of this age in this situation would be advised to have assisted conception treatment using donated eggs from a younger woman in her 20s.
Which if you listened closely she had to use a donor egg. Not her biological child. Might as well adopt if you gonna have to do all that. [Of the over 400,000 children in foster care in the U.S., 114,556 cannot be returned to their families and are waiting to be adopted. Among these children, males outnumber females, African American children are disproportionately represented, and over half are 6 years old or older.]

I know a woman who had her last and 13th baby at age 53. It was 100% natural, no IVF, medical interventions, etc. The baby was completely normal, healthy, now grown, married, with children of her own.

My mother gave birth to me at 19 and died at 34. Young age is no guarantee that parents will see their kids into adulthood. Children should be born to parents who want them and will do what it takes to take good care of them. Being a good parent is the only thing that counts at the end of the day. Having babies is for grown folks of all ages who are capable of doing so.

My grandmother had her 7th child at age 52. Her husband was 51. She passed away at age 90 without ever having any health conditions or surgeries. She did not smoke, nor drink. Drank LOTS of water.

Amazing ! My grandma had my dad at 45. She lived until late her 80s. I’m currently the same age as my great nieces and nephews.
She was lucky!! Most dont live to be 90! Im glad she was able to spent almost 40 years with her child. Most wont get too at that age.

@@laurymo2163 My mom had to have a hysterectomy when she was only 24 years old but I guess she never lost the desire to have her own child. It was am uphill battle for her not only because of her age but also because she was a single woman. In April of 1990 she purchased a home and began to have home visits with the adoption agency to make sure she was fit and that a child would have a safe place to grow in. I was born late in August and she got the call about me when I was 3 three weeks old. I've been her baby ever since. My adoption was closed and to this day I still have no clue who my biological family is but I still have my mama. Her health started to decline when I was 15 but she's a real fighter and hasn't missed any special moment in my life so far. She even was there when I had my baby in 2019. She's truly my angel on earth. She rescued me and loved me unconditionally since the first day she got me.
Here I am at 30 literally going through a miscarriage feeling like I'll never get my bundle of joy and then I see this 2 and it give me hope. God bless all the parents all around the world .

This story made me smile. I had my last baby at 39. We couldn’t be happier. Two beautiful girls. 4 boys. 1 grand baby.
I have a friend who adopted 2 kids b/c she and her husband tried for years with no luck. When she went to the doctor he sent her to the ER for x-rays for a UTI or possible kidney stones. The x-ray tech called the doctor and asked, "Why did you send me a pregnant woman to x-ray?" She was 56 years old.

My dad died at 33. He had me at 27. It just goes to show there are no guarantees in life. Young parents die as do older parents. If you're blessed with a child at an older age then embrace it. I don't have time for people who pigeonhole life events into age groups. Good for them:)

Beautiful! I had my second daughter at 46, she is now 5. Older daughter is 28. I clearly see the difference in parenting in my 20's vs now. I am much more patient, grounded, and wise compared to my 20's. You have much more to offer your children when you know who you are, and for many that comes from life experience you don't have in your 20's and even 30's. Blessings to your beautiful family and may you be a beacon of inspiration to women whose biological clock may be ticking and think it can never happen after 40.

Wow this is why you shouldn’t listen to society and their norms of having a kid at young age. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen for people when they are young, I know people have asked when will I have a kid, my answer is always when I’m married or possibly never.

My wife and I are both 43 with 24, 22, and 17 year old boys, we were both absolutely ready to have the house to ourselves when our youngest leaves home in a few months for college but we just recently found out that she's pregnant. I'm fine with it but she's been the complete opposite since we got the confirmation, I hope her attitude about it becomes more like yours as time passes. my aunt had her last child at 49 or 50 i can’t remember. everything was a shock to us. She met her husband and soon after had my cousin. Drs told her she couldn’t have any more. Never let society tell u it’s too late. God is always on time 😉

Our bodies are capable of having a baby up until 50 ish. That’s a fact. As long as something is possible imma try til it’s not possible anymore. That’s with every aspect of my life. Try for your baby.
I was 55 and my wife was 47 at the time, and our baby was and is healthy and perfect...despite all the smug and sanctimonious "medical experts" who told us we couldn't have kids without a donor egg. After she was born, I was sorely tempted to introduce our little girl to every single one of those one-hundred-percent-proven-wrong naysayers and have her blow raspberries at all of them. Our advice is to get and stay healthy by exercising regularly and watching your diet, and then just go for it. You have more time than you think-naysayers be damned.

Technically, they did not conceive. She _delivered,_ using a donor egg.
It is absolutely _wonderful_ that they are showing people that possibility, as donor eggs are a great option for moms with low-or-no fertility❣️🙏🏽

My piano teacher gave birth to her first child at 51 in 1966. I myself was only 12 when she had a baby girl. She thought she would never have a child but eventually she did.
Their daughter will grow up in an established, calm environment because of their age. Congrats to this lovely couple! Best of luck on aging with your little bundle of joy...the best years are ahead. ❤
And because she was born to older parents, she'll be robbed of launching her own life when she gets hit with caregiving duties at the start of adulthood. That established, calm environment won't mean a thing if she has to give up everything because of her parents carelessness.

at the age of 52 my husband was 57 when we adopted a new born son, now about to turn 15. my husband passed 19 months after our son was born, from a stroke. having this son gave me a reason to keep going and someone to love.
Most people can only love a child who has their DNA and looks exactly like them. But people like you are special and unselfish.

I was 39 and my husband was 51 when we had our first baby together, we each had other children from previous marriages.
When our son was 11, my dear husband died suddenly as a result of the stress from his years as a police officer in a large city.
Thus me having to raise our son without his wonderful dad. Everyone of us, his children, my children, our child....miss him tons and tons.
no thought for the kid, very selfish. I had older parents and they died when I was at school.

I envy the Troxlers'! My wife and I tried to conceive a child, but it was not to be. Mumps had rendered me infertile when I was 12. We were informed of that fact after we went through fertility testing.
We decided to adopt, and had a baby boy placed with us when he was 3 months old. He will be 49 in June. Being a daddy was a joy for me - I got up at night to feed him his bottle, change his diaper, give him baths, play with him every chance that I got!
Enjoy those moments, because time goes by quicker than we realize, and one day they are moved out and starting life on their own.

I’m 50 and I haven’t given up hope. God blessed Sarah and Abraham with a son when they were REALLY old. He has the final say.

It makes me sad, my parents were in their 60s when they adopted me, my mom died when I was 14 and my dad at 20. This child will be lucky to have their parents in their life for 15-20yrs. I loved my parents more than anything and am grateful they adopted me but it broke me when they died.
I completely understand. I’m 70 now. My mom was 40 and dad 44 when I was born in 1953. They did within 6 months of each other when I was 25. No other relatives except my 2 children.
