Rick Shiels Senior PGA Golf Coach at Trafford Golf Centre puts the new Ping G30 Irons Vs Ping G25 irons on GC2 using real golf balls.
See which performs better for distance, direction and ease of use.
Beardless Rick Shiels gets me everytime!
Agree with Adam. Green dot vs Black dot would effect ball flight right vs left. Black is standard lie...Green is 2.25* upright which would move ball a bit to the left. FYI...I play I25 Maroon dot, which is 4.5* upright. My ball flight is a soft draw. Thanks for the comparison Rick.
It's very interesting that long irons were hitting further than your average, yet the shorter irons hit about the same. It seems to me, that in this case, that all Ping have done, and it's not just common to Ping, in doing this, is the range of yardage hit with your set of Irons can now be filled with a 4-PW set instead of a 3-PW set, but something has to give with that scenario, and that means that our total yardage hit with irons nowadays is covered by less clubs, which results in bigger gaps between Irons. Which can create problem on-course even for top Pros, let alone the average amateur whose distances aren't particularly consistent anyhow. Results may vary I guess, but for the purposes of Ricks test, this is all that is happening, more distance gaps between irons. Hmmmmm.
anyone else notice on the "Dot colors" on this test ?... G25's were black dot and the G30's clubs were green dot ?? 2 different lie angles !!! Not a equal test in my opinion.
And right now with modern iron prices.... these are finally reasonable value.
Year after this tweet I've just picked myself up some G25's 😂
@@willcoles585 I have some and they are pretty fun
@@willcoles585 how much?
I have the Anser driver so it was nice to hear the comparison between the two irons Thanks Brian
It looks like the dispersion is consistently a lot tighter with the G25 over the G30.
One is a green dot, the other a standard black dot. Should be a slight difference in consistency!
Rick is the blade length longer on g30.for yourself who hits out the centre it would not make much of a difference. However us amateurs the longer blade length would give added forgiveness, which is a key component to the golfer this club is aimed at.
looks like the g30 is a green dot and the g25 is a black dot. how would this affect the numbers? more just left and right hits?
green dot is normally more upright and a longer shaft then black dot
I'm glad I purchased the G25 instead of the G30. I prefer a more accurate iron as opposed to a juiced up iron attempting to keep up with the distance race.
I have accurate/consistent numbers on all of my irons throughout the set.
btw, this guy really wanted the G30 to shine over the G25 lol
The G25 irons are fantastic. Wjat ppl dont realize is when you bend/buy and iron that is 3-5 degrees stronger..the ckubface angle has changed. That is why more ppl slice with juiced up irons. If you need distance then you need to learn to release the club.
interesting, what's your handicap with G25? Rick's claiming the G30 is more consistent in numbers and better distance
@@ihatekillerclowns Actually I sold those irons a d now I play with Mizuno MP-4 blades. Most accurate iron I have ever hit. Makes me feel like a sniper. My hcp hovers around 10-12 but I'm coming back from an 8 month back injury.
Spot on. Love my g25s. Hate that they made the lofts stronger and the spin rate not as good. The whole idea is to have your ball stop on the green as fast as possible.
I carry my 7 iron 180 to 185 with my g30's. These clubs are the best I've hit.
+stackleft And what are you playing off ?
I'm about a 10 or so.
David here first time for me on the computer to speak to you people. I like your video,s very informative. Say thanks to friend in the other teaching bay, I like his as well. Sorry new boy with the computer im a bit long in the tooth
Wow Rick, you look really young in this video. Where you in college? I found a set of G30's on Ebay and I was hoping you did a review.
Bottom line. Is the g30 running out further when hitting the green?? If so by how much roll out? Thanks
Rocking the speedblade look
Great review as usual Rick. I want to get fitted for one of those irons, but I'm hesitating. Which one do you recommend Rick? G25 or G30?
Why green dot vs black? Just saw that on the 5i close up .doesn’t seem apples to apples to me
Rick can you do a g30 irons test off the grass and see if it's the same please ?
Surely results will differ from a different surface ?
My nine iron is 110.......
Great review as always, how can stronger lofts hit it on similar trajectory? In which case as the G25 are not cranked lofts are these easier to hit in a like for like comparison? Your desperation was better with the G25? Anyway gutted as bought G25 6 months ago. I hope Ping don't start churning them out like TM!
I have the g25 iron and would like to see the inprovement vs g25 vs 425 irons and drivers... is that possible?
If worth the upgrade... my hdcp is 24
PLEASE PLEASE compare the Karsten Irons to the G30 or any other 2014/15 major iron set.
Why is one a green dot and the other a black dot?
RickShielsPGAGolf Love the vids, especially the vlogs with Finchie. Only question/comment on this video: Crossfield ridicules the notion of "dispersion" because a slight change in where the ball makes impact with the club head makes a big difference in outcome. Therefore, without a robot it's impossible to say with any accuracy whether one club has better dispersion than another. I tend to agree with that logic. What are your thoughts on dispersion? You seem to suggest these G clubs have different dispersion - but as you're not making identical strikes 100% of the time isn't it impossible to determine? Thanks for all your great work.
For me 'dispersion' is about how forgiving the clubs are on off-centre strikes. There's no point having a club that a robot can hit dead straight with consistent middled strikes if it goes miles off-line as soon as a human catches one not quite out of the screws. In fact dispersion relies on off-centre strikes. It's all about how consistent the clubs are given the inconsistencies of the user.
Ian Simcox Ian, there's no disagreement at all about what dispersion is. Let me try to explain Mark Crossfield 's point again: In order to measure dispersion differences between two clubs you need a robot to make identical off-centre strikes. Since a tiny deviation in impact has a huge effect on direction humans can't measure dispersion delta between two clubs - they merely showcase their inability to make several identical off-centre hits.
Johan Klarin I think what he's trying to get at and I agree, is that why it may not be a 100 percent identical swing every time, you'd be amazed at the capability of muscle memory let alone in a PGA pro. So I think his point is that with his swing, these are the shots he tends to swing. Me personally I am a ten handicap and while I am no PGA pro, I have noticed, my coach and on film that my swing is very identical on most of my shots. The outliers IE the shanks and what have you are eliminated from this anyway.
Why do use two different color code???? Thanks
what would you say about the g15 to the g30??? would there be a massive difference or just a small difference? thanks!!
Love the vids rick
There was a huge difference for me between my G15 to my G25 irons. I am sure that you will see an absolute difference between your G15 to the new G30. Take two of your G15 clubs (7&9) to a dealer like Golf Galaxy and compare them you'll see...Track your numbers and you'll see...Make sure that you warmup and stretch good before you start your test...Something else that I did before upgrading, I contacted PING for technical information and they are absolutely AWESOME when it comes to customer service answers. They were the ones who told not to change my G15 for the G20s because there would not be a noticeable change. I did my own comparison and they were absolutely dead-on the mark. These PING people are good.
excellent, thanks very much mate, appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thanks!
Are the G30s miles ahead of the G25s to the point where i should just buy the G30s instead or are they both pretty equal?
Thanks for posting this video!
Do you not need to hit them off centre to see how good they are for amateurs rather than a pro middling it over and over
Baby Rick! haha looking good!
Instead of this you should test distance gapping between the irons to see if it works
He explains that the G30's have stronger lofts and then seems surprised that the G30's carry further? Wha?
Higher doesn't mean further.
The G30 now has the same loft configuration as the G2 EZ. PW- 45 9i- 40 8i- 35 7i - G30 30.5 7i G2EZ 30.
The G2 ez only went up to the 7i. The G30 has less offset. The G2EZ has a narrower sole. Both sets eliminate a extra iron,
which I think is a good thing.
So the same number iron with less loft goes further.....what a shock .
maybe its just due to your swing
but the g25 are black dot and the g30 are green dot so it is not a true test
but you would think rick would get the same spec of clubs to test
of course it will thats why ping do the color code
The Lie angle should not matter that much. I was initially fitted into the RED Dot. Subsequently, my swing-path changed and I had to compare my Red (G15) to my Black (G25); and I was then advised to gradually change my club to Black especially when I was becoming more accurate with the Black versus the RED Dots.
I noticed that as well! I call foul.
Lol, I looking for good used clubs so I'm viewing these old reviews.
Obviously the stronger loft is going to go further
But how about spin rate. It's all about the ball stopping on the green and not rolling out. So who wins on that point? I want my ball to hit and stick!!!
Im realitivy new to golf. Are these good clubs for someone getting into golf?
You should get fitted into these clubs. I was fitted twice by two different Reps and they both fitted me (at the time) with RED Dot clubs. I re-fitted myself to Black once I understood the Color process and how to read the PING Fitting Cart. I have been playing golf for the last four years and I have two changes of iron clubs (since my starter set) all PING and I have never looked back...
I am debating whether to have my PING club-heads reconditioned by PING or move into the G30 clubs...
@@MrTanker10a what made you decide to switch colors? I should be a red dot but I have an incredible deal on green dots so I’m wondering how big a difference it would be
@@patterntrader690 I was initially fitted by two different fitters (including PING Rep) with RED DOT Indoor and Outdoor... Within a year,
I had to switch colors from RED to BLACK due to the Lie Angle. I went from 1 degree FLAT RED to BLACK (Standard Lie)... Due to swing change and sequencing with a 6-iron...
GREEN is 2 degrees UPRIGHT From BLACK...
ping.com/en-us/fitting/custom-fitting/iron-color-code-chart
I do not use PING anymore. I was refitted into MIZUNO Stiff 5 years ago...
Since you rehit the g30 you should had did the same with the g25 7 iron to be fair
Do g30s vs ur s55's
I see the new Pings and I expect to see pieces flying off of them when you hit a golf ball. There's just so much stuff stuck on the back.
Can u play mark crossfield I'm sure that will get a lot of views
Mark FTW
Never gonna happen
Mark has no chance with Rick, you kidding me?
different ball speed
They keep making irons stronger and stronger lofts, its annoying... an average 4 iron in 2014 has less loft than a 3 iron from 2000... and a 6 iron today is almost what a 4 iron was just 15 years ago.
You are not a machine there, Ricky?
Is this guy eating mashed potatoes ?
I can't understand more than 50% of that strong British accent. Sounds like he has a mouth full of mush! lol
