Honestly, I feel like 2023 was a tremendous year for film. I thought it was the best year for film since 2019, easily.

I’ll admit though, we see movies very differently! For example, I was underwhelmed by Creed 3 and Tetris.
You have motivated me to watch Pathaan though. Very interested to check it out.
Also, it does seem like you missed some great movies. I don’t hold it against you (everyone gets busy with life). But if you have the time, I’d recommend Poor Things, The Iron Claw, and Hunger Games (totally surprised by how good it was).

Haven’t seen everything I wanted to see this year, but I really loved John Wick 4, Across the Spider Verse, Oppenheimer, Holdovers, and Godzilla Minus One. Godzilla Minus One surprised the hell out of me. Trust me Brandon, if you haven’t seen it, plz do. It’s worth the hype and praise. Nearly teared up at the end.

Heya Brandon. Today I went to see Next Goal Wins. it was absolutely wonderful and I loved it so much. I am not a fan of Soccer at all, but I found appreciation for the sport and how important it is to the people who enjoy it. I also loved the characters and I found Jaiyah's story to be very emotional. She is so inspiring. Having said this, you may guess that I disagree about it being a bad year for movies. I have had at least 3 fantastic experiences this year, that stand above and beyond past experiences. As well as what I watched today, I also was blown away by Godzilla Minus One and Mission Impossible.

Here are my top 10 favorite films of the year. I saw a total of 19 movies this year.
10. A Haunting in Venice (I am such a big fan of Murder Mysteries! While it was a slow burning movie, it really picked up as the movie went on, and had me continually guessing as to who the murderer was.)
9. 65 (Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt did such a great job, it helped make up for the film's glaring flaws. Plus one jump scare had me fly back in my seat.)
8. Fast X (Not the biggest fan of this franchise, and it seems to be getting even more ridiculous as the series goes on, but me and my mom were laughing the whole time, and Jason Momoa was so fun.)
7. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part One (Sad to see that this film bombed, they just happened to put it out at the wrong time. Loads of fun, and I loved the humor, and the action scenes. I wish that one character hadn't been killed though.)
6. Creed 3 (While I did miss Rocky's presence in this movie, Creed 3 had enough heart to it, and it had some of the best fight scenes of the series.)
5. Rebel Moon (A surprise for me. I am a fan of Zack Snyder, but I was not impressed at all by the trailers. But the film was such a great world building movie, that I am now sucked in. I had a problem with the overall pacing of the movie, but still another great film by Zack!)
4. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (This movie came out at the perfect time for me. The day before I saw it, I got hit with some news that devastated me, so I will always be grateful that this movie came out when it did, because it helped put a smile on my face! Plus, I am a huge fan of Super Mario, and like a lot of people, I grew up playing the games! So it was special for me.)
3. The Last Voyage of the Demeter (Is the ending a bit of a mixed bag, yes! But it was so well made and directed, and you could tell that they were actually trying to craft a good movie! Plus it was nice to see a vampire movie that had a dark tone, and wasn't a total joke fest!)
2. Five Nights at Freddy's (The 8 and a half year wait was so worth it. The film was made for us fans, and Matthew Lillard dominated the screen!)
1. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (So good! I had no expectations, but I was blown away! Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, and Viola Davis were amazing!)

You're absolutely right, last year was a stinker tbh, Talk to Me, Anatomy of a Fall and Past lives stood out to me in particular, but I loved KOTFM and Oppenheimer too. That being said I definitely saw more bad than good last year.

Honestly I thought this was a pretty successful year for film if we're not focusing solely on blockbusters (In which it was pretty bleak) but I've also seen like a lot more films then most people so that could also be why lmaoo great video tho and list overall!

I think it’s just you! Because 2023 was one of my favorite year for Films ever! Along with 2014 and 2013! So many amazing movies I love came out in 2023 no hard feelings my favorite comedy of the 2020s so far , of an Age an amazing gay romantic drama, migration illumination amazing animated adventure, Anyone But You an amazing rom com with two great actors and Oppenheimer 😍 just to name a few!!

I have only watched two movies from the list you suggested. Tetris was amazing, but MI: Dead Reckoning did not impress me at all. I almost fell asleep several times while watching the movie. The only thing that stood out for me was seeing Esai Morales on the big screen.

I think the quality of Hollywood movies has been going down and DOWN for MANY, MANY MANY years. I still enjoy movies, but I don't like the Hollywood industry. My favorite movies are from the 1930's to the 1980's, and you weren't even born yet. I was born in 1965.

Pathaan? woo! I regret skipping that now. I really enjoyed going to see Ponniyin Selvan so I really should have gone... although Pathaan is Bollywood rather than Tollywood, isn't it?

@@BrandoCritic I find that they have a bit of a different style to them. Tollywood is the Tamil production studios and they tend to have less budget but more focus on contemporary styles. I would say it's like the difference between regular hollywood and A24 productions.

I did like The Card Counter and Living as well.
Oof, I didn’t like The Card Counter. Maybe I just didn’t get it, but I thought it was a really boring. Did you see Oppenheimer?
@@BrandoCriticyeah saw Oppenheimer. I found it very messy and ultimately a frustrating experience. Some great stuff in it, but bogged down by a mountain of flaws IMO. I found Card Counter quite mesmerising but yes - it’s a slow burn and not for everyone.
