This was happening at the same time as Ministry etc.; but his stage act in Pretty Woman where they were pretty much doing this already (but weren't a known band yet) shows he was ahead of the curve.
I was at KUFO’s Rockfest in 1999, which was System of a Down, Silverchair, Static-X, Primus, Godsmack, Megadeth and Rob Zombie as the headliner. The things I remember most were that Godsmack was surprisingly good live and Rob’s stage show was peak entertainment. Pyro, costumes, dancers, robots, crazy lighting effects, you name it. And Dragula was fun as hell to mosh around to.

Dragula was the name of Grandpas car from The Munsters. It was an old school Hot Rod and IIRC, he built it.
Theres an even more clubby version of this song that was in the Matrix called "Dragula (Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare Mix)"
His songs were on the Video Game NHL HITZ when I was young. It worked well. I was always Detroit and after a few giant hits with Brendon Shanahan Rob Zombie was perfect
