Hey Schorschix, So, 1. As far as I know, the 1998 Type RAs came standard from the factory with plain black items. Type Rs may have used body-coloured items, so apologies if I misled you there. 2. I didn't say the STI tip was exclusive to the 22B, just that standard WRXs of the time came standard with twin-tip systems, which they did. 3. To the best of my knowledge, VTD (Variable Torque Distribution) was the system that effectively preceded DCCD (Driver Controlled Center Differential or Driver's Control Center Differential). Hey zippy0099, so the 22B name comes from the engine's larger capacity - 2.2 litres up from 2.0. A 22B is totally cooler than an NSX, no contest! But again, I think people are missing the point of what I mean by 'Japan's F40'. The F40 was a moment-in-time car. It was produced one time, with one goal - to be the best the brand could do, no exceptions. The NSX simply wasn't a one-off, there were loads of on-going versions and special editions and even a second-generation car. Totally different to the story of the 22B.
There's always one ay Ric James... Haha. So you know, even Subaru and STI refers to the colour as Cherry Red, but yes, it's also called Cherry Blossom Red. Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. A titanium sports exhaust. Recaro or Sparco racing buckets. And of course the cherry red Subaru badge.
A lot. I've seen articles floating around the net that suggest values of between $75,000-$90,000. So not cheap, and just finding one to purchase isn't likely to be easy. #betterstartsaving
Haha a 'new' 22B bodyshell with modern internals would be cool, but so you know, you can thank Peter Stevens for designing the 1997 Subaru Impreza WRC car, which the 22B is based... the bloke also designed the mighty McLaren F1 as well as a variety of other cool and interesting road and race cars. Hey Joshua Roa, the car belongs to Subaru Australia and, as far as I'm aware, they're not selling it. But there are 22Bs around on the Japanese auctions from time to time...
Your average 22b goes from 50-130k no question in good nic. Every now and again you'll get a write off for sale or one pops up in Japan. There was 424 made 400 sold and in the UK there's about 8 on the road. I don't know how many where written off but I know of about 3 that have been. But I've left some links to some for sale

Cherry blossom red. Not cherry red. Magnesium wheels.
There's always one ay Ric James... Haha.
So you know, even Subaru and STI refers to the colour as Cherry Red, but yes, it's also called Cherry Blossom Red. And I actually can't find anything confirming the forged BBS rims as magnesium, but if you know you're right, then you're right - all good man.
Hope you still managed to enjoy the video ;-)
Stay safe hombre.
Wow
Subaru should make a new version of this called the 42b. It could be awesome.
I'd love to see Subaru do a modern version of the 22B, but gees, it'd have to be next level.
@@DaveZalstein imagine a modern day WRX STI, but with only two doors. Now imagine a 4.2 liter flat six engine mated to a smooth shifting six-speed manual with a firm but not too heavy clutch. Ohlins suspension. Carbon fiber front splitter, side skirts, rear wing, and rear diffuser. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires or Pirelli P Zero Corsas, Carbon fiber wheels. Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. A titanium sports exhaust. Recaro or Sparco racing buckets. And of course the cherry red Subaru badge.
That's a pretty big wish list Still Searching, but we can only hope...

Looks like Subaru is making a new special edition WRX STI.
@@DaveZalstein ONLY IF IT LOOKS LIKE A 22b!!!!
Price ?
A lot. I've seen articles floating around the net that suggest values of between $75,000-$90,000. So not cheap, and just finding one to purchase isn't likely to be easy. #betterstartsaving

If the designer of this car is still alive, could Subaru please re employ him. Or just dig out the tooling for this bodyshell.
Cheers for watching though man, and I hope you liked the vid :D
this is fucking cool!
причем здесь феррари??
Lol! I never promised a video on the F40, I mean the 22B is Subaru and Japan's equivalent to the F40. Apologies for any confusion.
That's very beautiful. But anyway, what to keep the cheetah in the cage of the zoo.
I know, but unfortunately we weren't allowed to drive this particular example as it belongs to Subaru Australia who have very strict rules around it. Cheers for watching still... :D
so awesome
It's a special unit, ay Hakasauars?
Every subaru fan boy's wet dream.

@@peterportelance9804 Haha, don't we all...
Just out of curiosity, how much were they asking for the 22b?
Hey Joshua Roa, the car belongs to Subaru Australia and, as far as I'm aware, they're not selling it.
But there are 22Bs around on the Japanese auctions from time to time...
around 70 to 9 0 thousand pound at best
😲
Your average 22b goes from 50-130k no question in good nic. Every now and again you'll get a write off for sale or one pops up in Japan. There was 424 made 400 sold and in the UK there's about 8 on the road. I don't know how many where written off but I know of about 3 that have been. But I've left some links to some for sale

Japan's ferrari is the nsx
Disagree. Again, the F40 was a moment-in-time car. It was produced one time, with one goal - to be the best the brand could do, no exceptions.
The NSX simply wasn't a one-off, there were loads of on-going versions and special editions and even a second-generation car. Totally different to the story of the 22B. Sorry but it's true.
I would commit crime for a 22B
Let's not do that haha, just watch the vid lots and share it around instead...
Take care mate :D
I'm a millionaire and #1 the wife says no to buying it #2 I can't find one for sale in US for the life of me lol
Hi 07BLUESTI, given you're a millionaire I would suggest two things:
1) Get a new, more understanding wife
2) Find out who bought this one, and make an offer - www.appreciating-classics.com/car/subaru-impreza-22b-271/
Best of luck, and do let me know how you get on.
Cheers.
@@DaveZalstein Classic I love it! Unfortunately I'm counting both of our assets to be a millionaire plus I'd be broke after a divorce lol... My broker said to wait 3 more years until they are fully legal in the US then make my move lol... Thanks for the funny comment tho!
@@07BLUESTI Three more years, yikes, not sure you'll even find one by then, plus they'll be PRICEY!
My tip, get one now before they're all gone and just hide it in the shed for a bit ;-)
Faster than F40
Perhaps not, but I certainly wouldn't take an F40 on gravel... :D
i wish you stopped touching the car!. keep your hands and pointy finger off collectible cars. Even pulled the antenna out and pushed it back in?!!
I know mate, I'm basically the devil - so rough on cars... *sigh*
The “rumble” is artificially created by a inefficient header design, you can literally make a Honda sound like that if you want to... with EL headers a boxer still sounds slightly different from a inline 4, but it doesn’t have the obnoxious “rumble” that you hear from riced out straight piped WRX’s...
Oh c'mon man, "obnoxious rumble” is my favourite kind of rumble... :-P
