    This is the exact kind of tutorial I'm looking for. Even in the classes I pay for I'm struggling to get information on just a fundamental base for grappling largely because other students are just more advanced. which is frustrating because I've always been all about the fundamentals in wrestling. For instance, I knew about the arm weave pass from this position, but I didn't know anything about the headquarters position, controlling it, the options I have, what I should be managing or even just how to do a basic knee slide. I just came on the day they taught the arm weave technique so that's what I learned that day. Everything in grappling is a flow chart, and it's difficult for me to create it in my mind without this kind of info. Thank you for sharing.

      I hear you. When I started out in BJJ it seemed like some instructors were not forthcoming with techniques. They liked to spoon feed new students for whatever reason. Now, with so many online videos you can advance and add techniques to your game so much more rapidly than in the past.

    • @phoenixamaranth
      @phoenixamaranth 2 роки тому +8

      @@biashacker I think it's a lot to do with not overwhelming people. There is a broad range in people's ability to uptake information and retain it. Most instructors tend to the least common denominator principle which means if you're one who can take in a lot fast, you're not who they're targeting. Others will struggle to grasp even the spoonful. This is an excellent video for anyone blue to brown to pick up many important things, but I would bet it's a bit much for most white belts.

    This is my favorite passing dilemma! If the knee slice fails, you have the side smash. If the side smash fails, you have the knee cut. It took me several months to get it but now it has become my A game passing system! This was the best video explanation I’ve seen on it yet. Awesome job as always, it was worth the wait.

      @@barrett5229 I think focusing on concepts and positional sparring is definitely the way.
      For example send a month getting positional sparring half guard. Watch a bunch of half guard technique videos (or my Fanatics instructional) and see what resonates. Focus on the concept of never letting someone grab your head or take an underhook. The month after do the same with half guard passing.

    Once I learned a proper knee slide pass the smash pass combo I kind of figured out just by having guys over commit to preventing the knee slide so I hade to come up with another option. @@JordanTeachesJiujitsu I'd love if you did a video including those 2, maybe make it a bit of a series so you can tell viewers to watch the first video if they don't have the first combo down yet. • @guamtek
      @guamtek 2 роки тому

      @@JordanTeachesJiujitsu quick question on the smash pass. When you smash the legs down, are you trying to push the legs to the side or more towards their head? I feel like going more to the side frees them up to extend their legs making it harder to consolidate their hips and giving them more space to work with. I've noticed actively pushing them sideways and toward the head helps shut that down a little more but I'm not completely sure if there's any drawbacks.

    The format of these kinds of videos is fantastic. Where I think other channels fail is that they do what you do in any jiujitsu academy and just point a camera at it. They fail to tap into the real potential of a video format. These videos maximize what can be done with the medium with narration and smart editing showing both controlled and live examples in a well paced manner.
    Also organizing this as a system of "if A do B", "if B do C" means I can properly sit down with a pen and paper (which I did) and draw out a flow chart with notes and details. Then during my open drilling class, ask my partner to do all the little counters and then practice countering the counters. One of the best jiu jitsu videos I've ever seen.
    Please Jordan more like this!

Having started with Judo where the ground work is very speed and pressure based, all the concepts on the ground has made BJJ much easier

    Great video! I think the Xpass fits right in the middle, when their knees are pointing up! That's the combo I teach my students, but I'm definetly adding the smash pass now. Great job!

      I almost included the x pass but wanted to keep it a 2 step system. I should have added in hindsight 🙂

    Great use of using angles and rolling footage to show your examples. These are my favorite ways to pass the guard which I believe is the hardest and most difficult position to drill because every inch of space you give is an opportunity to recover for your opponent. Keep up the great work Jordan!

    Thanks so much for doing this. I think we chatted about this a year ago. I also spam X pass which seems to work well in combination with the other two from headquarters. Your channel is getting me excited to train again. I haven't been on the mats since November 2021.
