Whats crazy about travis is he can make the most harmonically dissident vocals sound beautiful and sorrowful in a way i geniunely have never heard someone do. His harmonies are so emotional and just hard-hitting. The songs death atlas and just another body are just something else.

Travis is an absolute monster. Some of his stuff hits just as emotionally as it does brutally. He's really carved a niche. And I can see vocalists been very influenced by him in years to come.

It is double tracked and cleaned up a bit for the album, but he does that strange melodic vocal live. It’s a very nasally high pitched “goblin” vocal, using the nasal cavity almost exclusively. He’s one of the very first to ever do it. Enjoy 🤘🏼🤘🏼

I appreciate you shouting out the quality of the lyrics. I feel it's overlooked aspect of the band. Travis does write great lyrics, and he also makes efforts to clearly pronounce everything he's written (unlike a lot of other extreme bands). Oh, also, check out the extended version of their video "Kingdom Of Tyrants".

Thank you so much, glad you liked it! They started out as a grind/death metal but started to turn into this extreme progressive metal band with the album Harvest Floor. As a 52 year old music lover. I've been heavily into metal since the mid 80s namely Master of Puppets which just blew my fucking mind when it came out. I've loved all genres of metal through the years including my step sons HardCore Death Metal band Clone the Fragile. I currently love listening to the likes of Gojira, Mesuggah, While She Sleeps, Slipknot, Architects, Bleed from Within( that used to Support CTF back in the day.) BMTH,Carcass,Pantera, Jinjer and recently Sleep Token. It always amazes me the depth and breath of the entire genre. Some I love some not so much. But all has a place. Long live Metal and all it's iterations. The World is a better place for your music. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

They were the first band I remember listening to and it's went from there. I repaid that start by taking her to see Iron Maiden. She is a massive Manowar fan (a band you have to listen to). But the crowning glory was taking her to see Paul McCartney at Giants Stadium in 1990. Please keep doing what yer doing and fuck the naysayers 🤘🏻🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🖤 Love the Cattle Decapitation as well🤘🏻

There are a significant number of metal bands that are good across the board. By no means a majority, and Cattle Decapitation is one of the best groups in metal out there. Speaking of "silver foxes" (lol) these guys have been at it almost 30 years and they're still cutting edge. They're as old as me! And yes the name threw me off too, a friend of mine turned me onto them not that long ago. Great reaction!

I think the name cattle decapitation is really fitting. A lot of there music is ment to spread awarness about animal rights issues such as the horrors of factory farming for example and to spread awarness about ecological issues that are destroying habitats such as pollution and climate change. If you look at the album cover for the anrhropcene extinction its ment to represent segals that die from eating plastic on the beach and you can see the plastic still there in perfect condention spilling out after the seagal itself starts to rot. I think its fitting that they are bringing awarness to these issues in the disturbing way that they do becouse these are issues that people should find disturbing.

Hey Dude! At 54 I'm definitely a Silver Fox hahaha. But seriously, I was around when the early Trash scene started and all the Black Metal and NWOBHM hit our ears in the early 80's. My Dad listened to Black Sabbath and that whole early Metal scene of the 70's as well. These are still my favorite eras for Metal but, I absolutely love the new stuff: Opeth, Tesseract, In Fkames and a lot of Death Metal bands. I've never listened to Cattle Decapitation but from what I've just heard, I sure will explore them further. They remind be a bit of Meshuggah, probably because of the drumming and the vocals a little. Thanks for that great discovery!

I'm old enough to have gotten a Gene Simmons "Demon" action figure for Christmas when I was a kid. It had tongue attack action and removable armor (I think?) I don't think I had even ever heard a Kiss song, but that's the power of image. Once I got to the teen years, though-Thrash and Punk leavened with Alternative was everything. I love where the genre(s) are going, there's always something cool out there, you just have to look. Music is the only real magic, in my humble opinion. Oh, and Travis is amazing, and Cattle Decapitation kicks ass.

  • @Mobiwraith
    @Mobiwraith 23 дні тому +1

So, fun fact is that their last four albums are essentially one big story. If you're really into the harmonious stuff, then focus on Death Atlas. That "goblin-esque" vocal started a tad in Monolith, then they got a bit more into it in Anthropocene Extinction, and then in Death Atlas they fully leaned into it. Terrasite (this album) they reverted back to a bit more of their heavier style, and the goblin vocals sprinkled throughout. Cattle are my favorite band of all time, and it is because, as you said, they do all three parts of making music, very well. Some might say (myself included) musical genius.

Ooh, interesting choice (of the ones i mentioned). Travis is a colossal vocalist.
Edit: they used to be more intense and wrote shorter songs, more in the style of grindcore. They've evolved into this well rounded band that mixes death metal and grindcore and has started using those "melodic" vocals more. It creates a very interesting blend.
The band at one point, as far as i know, were all vegan. I'm not sure if they still are or if some are just veggie or whatever, but yeah. They aint about killing animals, and they've been talking about various environmental issues and disasters caused by humans for a couple of decades now.

Silver definitely, but it's been a bloody long time since I was a fox! Grew up on Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Iron Maiden etc, and to be honest, I was initially turned off Metal when it went Thrashy... if that's even a word? But it was Opeth that changed my mind about how good growly metal could be, and now at 57 years old, I'm enjoying Cattle Decapitation.

Almost the same story mate. 53 here, grew up on Maiden, Sabbath, Hawkwind, Led Zep, though unlike you I embraced the thrash scene. Almost completely gave up on metal in the Nu-metal days. Randomly discovered Opeth when they released Watershed and they were the band that got me back into metal and got me to finally enjoy growls! Now also loving Jinjer and Cattle Decap after discovering them. Getting to see CD in a couple of weeks for the first time.. can't wait \m/

My favorite band! Seen them live 4 times. Travis is the originator of so many people using guttural with the pig squeals. Signs of the Swarm and Lorna Shore and a natural evolution from where CD really took off
While they toned down the gory and over the top songs over the years, the lyrics are still hyper violent and poignant. They're lyrics don't shy away from their stance on treatment of earth, animals, people. Their album Blood Karma started a different writing style, Harvest Floor had a tiny bit of what you hear in this song, then Monolith came out and absolutely broke the death metal scene. Forced Gender Reassignment was a song ahead of current issues by a decade. It solidified this style and Travis using the goblin vocals more. *Tons* of bands would adopt this style switch going forward. Since Monolith they've had 4 albums, including the one this track is from, and each one has been a solid banger. I personally didn't like Death Atlas as much but that's just me. 10/10 band

Well they started out as gore grind and the original Human Jerky, Homovore, To Serve Man etc were very much lo-fi compared to the past 5 albums, with the Harvest Floor really being the point when they started to evolve to what they are today. Primarily down to Dave McGraw taking over the drumming duties.
The next and biggest change came on the Monolith of Inhumanity album when Travis decided to unleash is high melodic vocal styles and at this point they pretty much became the force they are today!

It is AI. Also you can shorten their name to Cattle Decap. And yes they have a very low opinion of humanity. Love Cattle Decap. For a band that is so outwardly aggressive, they are still quite melodic, and you are still able understand the lyric's in Travis's vocals. Which is quite hard to do in this genre.

  • @jameswhitehead6758
    @jameswhitehead6758 3 місяці тому

Cattle Decapitation has 100% evolved, I would argue starting with Monolith of Inhumanity.
Pre-Monolith I felt as if they were focused on two things:
Grindy Grindcore (short, overwhelming songs shoving as much as possible into them).
Adolescent gross-out lyrics that were focused on advocating for the rights of animals.
Post-Monolith they moved away from the second and added the Death Metal elements we hear today in their sound, moving from Grindcore to DeathGrind. More complexity, longer songs, willingness to add harmony/pseudo-clean vocals.
Their messaging has also moved away from purely being about the rights of animals to being about how humans are awful animals hell bent on our own destruction.
Monolith of Inhumanity: Cover art includes a crossover between the Monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey and a planet-of-the-apes-esque humanoid who is distraught at the destruction around them
Anthropocene Extinction: The humanoid is dead in an industrial apocalyptic wasteland with plastics spilling out of its guts
    Death Atlas: A grim reaper-Atlas holding-the-earth crossover
Terrasite: A humanoid depiction of a termite as a parasite emerging from the rotting corpse of a human in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and looking on in terror/sorrow at what the human race brought on the planet.

Yeah, this was a good one. I like Cattle Decapitation for their mature style, good lyrics and sick humor. Well, not much of this here, but this was a "nicer" video of them. A classic would have been "Forced Gender Reassignment", where you see them kidnapping American extreme homo-/transphobe religious protestants from the street to do a, well, forced gender reassignment to them. In a lot of gruesome bloody graphical details ...
So, where to go from there?
Well, there is one step up into the extremes.
Infant Annihilator. Try the "Blasphemian" video.
Insanely well-made growling, maybe the best you can get in guttural vocals, insane instrumental skills and deathcore songwriting, mental but very funny humor and the most extreme lyrics you may find. Ever. Therefore, I can not recommend any of their lyrics videos for a first contact with the band. They are worse than e.g. the "Blasphemian" video, which one reactor , that I recommended it to, called her personal "imagination of what hell is".
But I don't recommend them for the shock factor. I recommend them for the insane instrumental skills and Dickie Allen's monstrous vocals. He is really that good. Alex Terrible from Slaughter to Prevail felt honored when they asked him to participate in one track of their album. Because, let's face it: Dickie Allen is even another huge step up from what Alex does. No hard feelings, it is just like it is and not a shame. I know nobody who is doing vocals like Dickie Allen.
And last but not least, Infant Annihilator are three very funny and nice polite young men who fully deserve all the internet hype around them. If you ask anyone, who is more extreme in extreme metal, you probably get the answer: None.
    But I digressed (no regret).
This was another nice video reaction. I really enjoyed it!
We make you a metalhead. If you aren't already.... If you like Cattle Decapitation, the longest part of the way is gone.
    🙂
Have a great week and a not shitty Monday!

@@SoulSingerDiscovers Well, perhaps, not the internet, but, definitely, pornhub!
It was, kinda, fun being trapped in said elevator, because I'm not, always, the best with things (I think of them as coffins on strings). So, it was nice to break that cherry! (Now, about that video I need to make...🤔)

Been a fan since the late 90ies, although never a big one. Their early work is very different from what they create now; it was much more brutal, best described as gore-grind or extreme death metal. They rose to some prominence in their early career by creating a video that was banned off most websites and certainly television, for their song "Forced Gender Reassignment." You can imagine the content of the video; back then they were equally for their pro-"nature"/anti-human message as they were for shock value.
They've matured a lot over the decades and their newest stuff is far more accessible in terms of intention, content and construction, but I also tend to think their songwriting has matured a lot as well. They still retain aspects of their initial sound, but there is a lot more influences and variety in their compositions these days; they manage to both pay homage to their early roots while being able to challenge themselves as artists, which I think is a great service to their fans and the metal community. It has brought them a lot of well deserved success and recognition beyond the pure shock value they went for in their early career.
I still think you should react to Archspire, but you certainly have a lot on your plate!

Not that much my cup of tea, Melisa. But Gossip are be touring, again. I'll be in for the show in Hamburg. But they'll also tour the UK.
Watched 'em 3 times: always wonderful. (1st time, there was a troll in the audience. But never again, I've experienced any unfriendly person in
the audience. And: this speaks words, I think. ) Try get a ticket. They have been amazing, in the past.

Cat Decap is great, and has been for YEARS. Glad you started off with this track though, getting your first taste by getting memed on reacting to forced gender reassignment surgery can be a bit much. I always appreciate your ability to dig into what makes these bands great, even on a first listen. Some might call it genius.

I deliberately avoided that track in my recommendations cause I figured she'd have had folk suggesting it cause it's always the one people seem to want reactors to listen to first 😂
