This game, to me, is a bit like Most Wanted 2012 in that there's practically none of the progression of the previous games of their respective series yet they both have a level of freedom to them that I have not experienced in any other racing games. It was like having a room full of Hot Wheels cars and tracks (over 1200 of those cars lmao) scattered around and I would go and pick whatever cars and tracks I felt like playing with until I got bored of them and went to try something else. It was the perfect stress reliever after a rough day at school.
I would still argue that 5 is better than 6 but I can't deny that this game definitely deserves a bit more love than it got.
It's a shame RPCS3 can't really handle Gran Turismo 6's final update. By that point, Update 1.22, Gran Turismo 6 was perfect; especially with the Spec-II mod.
If there's a reason why I should buy PS3 again is because of this. Nenkai with all of the community really cooking the spec-II mod
Yeah, bamBankMan. The whole reason why I bought my PlayStation 3 in 2019 was for Gran Turismo 5 and 6. It was worth it!
I’d like to see this game emulated on a Steam Deck with an updated RPCS3. Then we’d be cooking with grease.

Online GT6 was some of the most fun I’ve had on a game. So many cars and tracks. Circuit creator, a pp system that actually made sense most of the time. Some amazing races and memories
The course maker brought the life to gt6 that it so desperately needed, it’s a shame it was tied to the server and was wiped and unusable after 2017

The first thing I will do when playing Gran Turismo 5 and 6 again is purchase a Cappuccino and maxing it out. Also, it's sad that you can't play the later versions of GT6 on an emulator (yet) as it adds things like the Ayrton Senna tribute.

The cappucino race car actually exists in Gran Turismo 5 as well, however in that game you had to first buy the car and then go to GT auto and apply the "racing modifications" on it

The PS3 is one hell of a console, I am not surpised that the PS4 had no backwords compatibility at the time.
*My Hot Take on GT6: if GT6 was ported over to PS4 I'd play that over GT7 since it is playable offline and don't have to worry about the servers.

The first game I played on my PS3 years after playing GT4 on my PS2. Still my favourite to this day.
This was my first GT game, got it in 2017 a few months before GT Sport launched. I know a lot of people thought this game was nothing special but I really enjoyed it. I liked how diverse the car roster was (even if it was a little quantity over quality) and the updates added a lot of content to the game. I also loved racing and messing around with custom tracks online, I was so sad when they closed the servers only a year later in 2018. I felt like I missed out on so much. I've played some other GT games now (like GT4) and I think they hold up better from a gameplay/career progression standpoint but this game still holds a special place in my heart, I get a wave of nostalgia every time I hear the GT6 lounge music 🙂 Good job to you and James on this video 👍
GT6 and TDU2 got me back into racing games.

Been playing a lot of gt6 recently. I think it's a great game personally. Just finished a Japanese only run of the career and doing American only now. The amount of cars to choose from is immense.
The fact that this game is the lowest selling with 5.2 million actually shows how good this series get with sales.
5.2 mil is actually great given the circumstances it was released in.
They also cost an arm and a leg to develop because of PD's scheduling and scoping.

I bought a PS3 just to 100% this game. No regrets, it was an awesome experience
GT6 is the best racing experience i had in a console with controler, the variety of tracks, cars... the amount of hours i enjoy time attacking tsukuba, nordshleife, brands hatch is insane haha
I still love playing this game, Gran Turismo 6 is still my favorite GT game along with 4.

PS2 era GT physics are weird. They'd have a touch of sim, but if collided with a wall, it feels like being in a bumper car 😂
I feel like Gran Turismo 2 has to be above 6, the amount of cars/tracks and content for a PS1 game was something else at the time.

They didnt port this game to PS4, probably too much work and GT Sport was already in development. But they made a quite a few DLC updates to this game that offered some content and fixes. Update 1.22 came out in Dezember 2015.
Gran Turismo 6 definitely holds up technically.
Tracks, graphics, physics, content, length, replayability, car list, setup, scope.
It is the best GT to this day even if the sound is very outdated.
And especially physical wise the game is far ahead of its time.
I just love this game. Its the final game that had the classic Gran Turismo concept and already showed the future of the franchise.
i have to agree that the physical calculations on GT6 are the best of the entire series - It looks only slightly better than GT5, but actually has a pretty huge performance difference comparatively (on an emulator) - the only thing I have deduced this down to, being that the graphics are pretty similar, is that the physics/AI calculation is just way ahead of its time and more akin to modern day simulations all the way back in 2013! amazing stuff PD did and truly the last 'classic' GT in the sense of being real down to the last detail!

Although I have to disagree that the Games' graphics are definitely better. In the detail and in the textures.
They also created a whole new lighting system. This new system made the game look like a Next-Gen simulator with reflections, shadows and the nighttime presentation of the sky!
The rain looked better too, but the effects on the windshield are not very well made sadly.
There’s a mostly working ONLINE MOD!!!!! It works only on real PS3s and the custom track creator system actually works too!!!! It’s as awesome as it sounds and the only reason you don’t know about it yet is because Reddit nerds and nenkai don’t want you to for some reason

For me I think this one is a good enough mix between gt4 and gt5, plus the more modern cars and different brands felt refreshing. And I also somewhat like the progression bc gt4 almost always gave me decision paralysis bc of the many different paths you could take (I have adhd). Love how the license tests were handled in this game, so much more
interesting to play without having to play for hours just to get some golds. Definetly my favorite gt game, with gt4 very close behind
Hell yeah this was another amazing video. Everything from the content itself (even just the raw material from the streams is great), to the pacing, references and jokes was amazing.

Growing up my family didn’t have much money so I always got games and consoles super late, even though the ps4 had come out my parents weren’t able to get me one, so I stuck with my ps3 and had gotten this game. So many memories playing it as a kid, my favorite car in the game was the M4 F82 and it became my dream car, so much so that I ended up buying an F80 lol. But I had so much fun with the online on this game and the story. Countless memories doing top speed races on SS Route X, doing “touge” runs on Circuito De La Sierra, and car meets/highway runs on SS Route 7. To many this game was subpar but to me, as a 13 year old kid I had a blast and loved every moment of it. Prior to GT6 I had only played GT5, so I can’t fairly compare the older GTS to those two.
I'm still playing it and a couple friends are too! I loved it when they released it and still love it now. Bought the Anniversary edition and had all the extra content but as my console died I lost everything. Since December that I got my new console I'm playing again.

You know, I don't say that GT has to be that serious, but I do miss stuff like this. Not just showing you things about cars, but covering things like the rover, experimental machines, the very first cars ever made, and so on and so forth. It's just really cool to see how how far cars made it as a whole y'know

My sister though sold all my cars though and made sure to wipe most of my credits by buying and selling expensive cars, so I was basically given two choices. Start a fresh save, or do the gigachad option and start from the Sunday cup and build back up with a car that I could barely afford and grind

i love GT6 it is amazing that you can BUY ANY CAR. Insane. Also, it was such an expansion over GT5, the A spec mode in Gt6 is awesome, so many great races! nurburging is insane
Well this was nostalgic and your humour is brilliant.
The campaign was lacking for sure, but all the magic happened online. The cruise rooms, car show lobbies, route X races, it was awesome. My favorite memory was when my buddy and i took the karts to route X, typing in the chat all like "wouldnt it be funny if we did a lap in karts?" "lmao yeah lets do it!". We go down the straight from the start line, it takes us quite a while and right before the corner, we both stop in silence for a minute. I tell him "do we really want to do the whole thing?". He tells me "No......but lets go back and tell people we did" and we went back to our shenanigans. I miss GT6 online so much 😭

Though it's far from my favorite in the series, I still have some fond memories from this game - especially, with the custom track builder app that probably doesn't exist anymore lol Much more freedom to build tracks without the limitations in GT5's track of builder.
But this is another one of those games where, in collecting footage, I found myself wanting to keep playing. Standard cars aside, it's a treat to look at and despite the streamlined progression, it was still enjoyable to play through as far as I did.
Also, this is the only GT where I can handily gold ALL licenses - that is to say, they are absurdly easy...maybe too easy, but I'll take that over a dozen long-winded CBT tests any day.
I understand why it sold as poorly as it did, but I would encourage those on the fence to give it a go.
(Be wary of emulation if you're epileptic. This game flickers all over the damn place.)

Bought a used copy of GT6 months ago and booted up my PS3 after I fell in love with GT4 on PC. The only two gripes I have are that most cars are just remastered models from the PS2 era, and there's no used cars dealership. Also I'm sad that I can't use my modern wheel because it's not compatible with the PS3, it felt amazing on GT4.
This was the only gt game i properly finished, although i did technically get the 1st credits of gt5 but its gt6 where i completed the campaign in full and it was at this game where the Tommykaira ZZII became my favorite car in the series because of how i managed to build one that could beat even the fast LMP cars and by a good margin even. Also the high top speed i get with the c7 and srt viper.

Best car list, best track list, best handing, loved the Sierra Rally and Good wood. If it came out on PS4, it wouldn't have been as hated.

I've actually had the physical copy of this game, and it came with a bunch of cars with a blue GT painting, I've completed the entire game with these bonus cars, barely had to buy one.

I remember the day i bought the game and it feels like yesterday. Time flies so fast.
I remember before I played any GT game this one was my favorite, mostly because of its 1300 cars, then I played GT4 and after doing that 500 times it became my favorite. This game looks really weird, I've rarely ever seen any gameplay of it for some reason. It's the last classic Gran Turismo but it also takes away everything from GT5 by removing used dealer, making licenses kind of useless and changing the career a lot. Though the track creator looks awesome, I wish it could still be used today
I have a Launch PS3 and a Thrustmaster T300 with TH8A Shifter - playing GT5 and GT6 on this wheel setup is actually a lot of fun regardless of various issues with both games. Great to see GT6 being played in 2024, nice vid! 💯

Polyphony are perfectionists to a fault. It's a great game. Now that it's easy to emulate there is a significant modding scene for it too. It looks insane for the PS3 hardware, can easily pass for a modern game even now.
After being playing all of the mainline Gran Turismo games from 1 to 6 (plus the PSP game), I have to say Gran Turismo 6 is actually AT LEAST 3rd best game.

Sure, there were things that were in GT5 that were removed and were actually cool
No Ferrari F1 cars, no Top Gear Track, "no used car dealership"'and the "scapes" were downgraded in selection.
But to being honest, while that was cool, it was already underused in GT5, so I didn't miss it that much (but I agree it could be improved instead of just removing it)
Other than that, I actually kinda like the star progression in this game. Sure, it doesn't give you prize cars if you don't reach the half or all the stars in every license, but you don't need to finish every event to progress. Something that I actually liked.
In fact, most of the price cars in GT games were actually shit during almost all the games. The only game that gave you some really cool cars was and was normal to have them was in GT2.
We could argue if it could have been better to give better prize cars in GT6, given that it has 1200+ cars. But I think that with the Special Events the game is kinda balanced in that aspect.
I really hated that in GT4 you have to do every event to do the Gran Turismo Championship or even Endurance races, when in Gran Turismo 2 for example, you just got your license and the game let you do whatever you want.
GT4 was always praised because of being too "open", but it was there when GT started to becoming heavily restrictive.
And I hated the leveling up system of GT5 too, but actually in comparison to GT4 (aside for the fact you couldn't buy certain cars), it wasn't that bad.
GT6 is kinda like GT2 to some degree. Once you do have the licenses, it allows you to do the event you want to progress through.
And you have every car to buy if you want.
I agree for example, that I don't like that the events have a generic photo of the race instead of some art design.
And a little bit in the GT Auto animations, but to be completely honest, for me being too critical about that it's being nitpicky (probably also has something to do with the fact that GT2 is my fav GT, and in PS1 didn't have those animations).
Gran Turismo 6 is way far from being perfect and even the best game of the series, and there's a lot of issues that the game has that I actually agree that the game could have been better.
But for me, is way far from being the lowest point in the franchise, even if the fans and the sales say the opposite.
GT goes 4>5>6>2>3>1, at least in my opinion. I used to rate 6 second until I got to play 5 with a SSD upgraded PS3 which fixed my main complaint of the obnoxious loadtimes, they were way too slow for 2010 standards. So yeah, I agree with you I guess, GT6 is my third favorite.

My first and most played was 6. But 2 became my fav.
3 could have been the absolute best if it wasn't for its crappy prize cars and low content of cars and tracks.
4 was unnecessarily long to me.
1 has a shitty driving. So much that the endgame is much frustrating than the start due to racing suspensions being more bouncy than a basket ball.
5 was a mess, that I still don't understand why is so high regarded aside from nostalgia

Using face buttons for throttle isn't that bad since dualshock 3 has them pressure sensitive. So you can lightly press it to give half throttle, you can adjust it.
I like using the right analog stick for the throttle.
GT6 online is alive and well with an extremely active community if you guys didn't know (GT5 is also alive)

In old gt6 coffee breaks didn't exist, and you couldn't buy racing suits individually. You bought a bundle that cost 50k cr. However it was a specific style with all the colors.

GT6 isn't too bad, and I did enjoy my time with it, but I sorely missed getting prize cars after every event and how there are no actual endurance events. GT6 does some interesting things that I liked, but it also does some things that I didn't like. At least it had a mental amount of cars in it, which I always enjoyed.

People shit on this game hard, the only real complaint I had about it was the endurance races being neutered so for that reason I prefer GT5.
It's definitely the GT that I go to when I just want to screw around with random cars. No used car dealership means I can just buy whatever, whenever, and go chuck it around wherever I want. Downsides: The AI are quite possibly the worst in any racing game, everything in the career is too short and piss easy, drifting is required for 100% completion (that's just me hating/being unable to drift). Upsides: Goodwood, Senna Tribute, dicking around with the Lunar Rover, Sierra Time Rally (the track, not the event).
Honestly, GT5 and 6 are the sole reasons I initially got a PS5.
