I'm one of the people who got to play GT5 just after release. I really enjoyed the main game, but the highlight for me was the online play. I made so many online friends for the first time playing it. The structure allowed people to just goof off and have fun. Sure you could run races and even win a bit of cash, but most people just messed around. You'd basically host a lobby, and you can pick whatever track, and people can freely enter the track, race around, return to the lobby, pick a different car, set it up, even buy a few upgrades, and jump pack in and continue driving around, without leaving the lobby, all while in voice chat. The host could change track, make restrictions on car, and start races whenever. People brought in unique and interesting cars that they found in the used dealership or through career, and compete to see who would win in a drag race or drifting, cruising on the highway track, or who could make the fastest car within a PP restriction. First time I ever stayed up until like 4 am was playing this game. It showed me how fun online gaming with strangers could really be. When everyone shares the love of cars and is given a game with as much freedom as it has, you make a lot of good memories.
the best server were the one using the top gear test track. Very open track to fuck arround with strangers. I remember using the fiat 500. after i got attention from every other palyer there they tried to push me from behind and getting me to like 300kph. very fun times back then
34:25 the reason why they named Lutecia instead of Clio in Japan, is that the name was taken, by Honda with their dealership network until 2006 as they put all three (Honda Clio, Honda Primo, and Honda Verno) now as Honda Cars Dealership network. Similar to what Toyota (Corolla, Toyotpet, Netz, and Toyota Store), Nissan (Nissan Red Stage, and Nissan Blue Stage), among others did in Japan.
GT5 and 6 had a comfy feel to it, vs Sport and 7. These games felt like a car collection simulator. Even the main menu of GT5 feels like an interface for your PS3.
8:20 GT4 was intended to be a release day title, and ALL cars were intended to have complete interiors. More infamously, the demo that came out on the PS3's release day had significantly better graphics than the full version released nearly 4 years later.
Man, YT compression made that GT-R thumbnail look so crunchy that I can’t believe it’s GT5. That aside, after the long wait from GT4’s release, GT5 was an amazing experience and the downfalls it had didn’t ruin the overall experience. It was a game I nearly couldn’t put down until GT6 came out in 2013. Given the PS3 hardware trouble and publishing time constraints PDI faced, GT5 was an amazing product built off perseverance. The pitfalls came from obstacles outside of Polyphony’s control and them not being able to fit everything they wanted into a limited basket. The official servers may be gone since long ago, but the spirit of 5 is definitely AL1V3 (The video has been great so far, but I had to type that out before finishing the rest. You sure know how to make a captivating video, Eden)
Gotta appreciate the editing, my attention span became pretty low over the years and how youtube videos are evolving these days but the combo of your stream highlights and the job of your editor keep me really entertained from start to finish even though the videos mostly reach the 1 hour mark. That California Girl Remix was a work of Art, editing on a whole was on point once again :D Looking forward to seeing the GT6 Video at some point as it's the one I've looked into the most :)
GT5 and GT6 has some amazing mods (Master mod for GT5 and Spec II for GT6) that bring back most of the content that was lost when the servers closed. In the case of GT5, it even adds multiplayer that you can play using xlink kai (which kinda emulates playing on LAN). I've done some online GT5 races on my PS3 a couple years ago and it worked really well. The GT6 mod even adds a collection of community made tracks from back in the day, and the missions from Gran Turismo 4 into the game, as well as making the car sounds slightly less vacuum cleaner-ish.
GT5 inspired me in a big way regarding cars, I loved reading all of the manufacturer history in the museum. It spurred the love I have for cars in to overdrive for the rest of my life lol. great video fun watch!
Dustin, you can speed up B-Spec mode just like in GT4: hold L1 to go to the telemetry screen, then press right on the D-pad three times to speed it up to 3x.
Nostalgia aside, this game really still holds up. But even back in the day, standard cars were SUPER rough to look at amongst the rest of the game. In that same vein, even 11 year-old me knew something was EXTREMELY off with that chase cam lol Definitely hoping for a cam mod in the future (and for the game to work for longer than 5 minutes KEKW). Nonetheless, awesome music (still sucks that Isamu Ohira never returned after GT4 tho), a solid selection of cars and tracks, including HD GT classics like SSR5, plus tons to do - I can't help but love it, despite its shortcomings (nostalgia, very much not aside).
I bought GT5 on release, and it just happened by accident, happened to go to the videogame store and they had the copies come in that day. I enjoyed playing it a lot, brings back good memories. Enjoyed playing online a lot, at the time I had bought a G27 logitech set for it and it was great. Simpler times back then. Also very much enjoyed the track maker aspect of it, made some fun tracks. It was nice to see player creativity in online lobbies
Same story bro so much good memories on gt5. Played everyday since release till gt6 came out, i was 10 on release and learned so much from the game. Also got the g27 and learned drifting. Met so many people online, some I still speak to. All the communities, the amount of cars and tracks, the dlc's, it was all so amazing!
One time i went to a go-kart track that had 60 mph karts, they told me dont drift you will be slow. I proceeded to drift and get the 6th fastest time in the month and it will never cease to be one of my favorite memories.
Drifting the karts...what they really meant is don't drift cause it ruins tires! It is actually slower, too, but that is not why they told ya that. I drift them, too...don't care if it is slower.
You being stuck on a PS2 in 2010-ish reminds me of myself not affording a PS3 at the time too yea. I completely skipped GT5 and only went straight to GT6 when my wife got it on her PS3. Good stuff Dustin!
GT5 multiplayer lobbies were so much fun. From exclusive JDM meets mostly on the Japan highway map, to drag racing on tracks where players would enter a ghost mode by pressing their menu button, signaling the start of the drag race. I don’t recall ever legitimately racing online. It was mostly playing free roaming and hanging out. Fun times.
5:00 "First License Test in the game and we've already failed" That's basically my first experience with all the GT games (GT2, GT4, GTPSP) I'm a nutshell; I failed at least once or twice every single braking test in GT2 lmao
When the servers were up you got extra cash for login in everyday, up to double the money for login in five days in a row. And you had the online events which i think refreshed every week and those gave a lot of money as well (and you could replay them as many times as you wanted)
@@asimepuse back when I played it, I had no idea it was a thing. I haven't even had a PSN account. So I was pretty much stuck with the original game with no online features and no updates either.
I remember getting this game for Christmas and amazed by the amount of car choices it had. It had such a chill vibe to it as well from the nice hub lounge, and the calm soothing music. My favorites had to be the new car dealership songs, Tyme, and Dark Line by Satoshi Bando. For the past 5 years my alarm for the mornings has always been dark line 🔥
Getting this game as a birthday present was really nice. And then to add on to the beautiful sundae, the cherry on top was the NASCAR events people hosted back then. I was SUPER into NASCAR at the time I got it, which was just a little bit after it launched and when I saw I could enter in NASCAR races online, I was hooked. And the amount of people who had the same love of the racing in GT and NASCAR was just incredible. I made so many friends through those clean race lobbies and even did some Corvette Vs Ford GT races as well. Every online lobby was a huge experience for a 11 to 12 year old me, getting home just before my parents got off work, finishing up homework and then launching straight into GT5 to play with those friends every moment I could was so much fun. Thank god there is a modding community who made the means to relive that experience possible!
GT5 was my first foray into anything resembling sim racing. I first played it when I was 10 shortly after release, and while I loved it, I found it too hard to 100%. The X2010 and Eiger Nordwand time trials simply blocked me from being able to do so. A decade later (about 2021 or so), and with a G29 and more experience, I finally got the platinum after realizing I had the online trophies and realized I could theoretically 100% it. From my experience, I feel GT5 holds up EXTREMELY well. The physics, UI, music, campaign and everything feels absolutely wonderful. I played it natively on my PS3 so sub-1080p resolution doesn't look great. But comparatively speaking, even the graphics hold up well! Honestly I think it blows GT7 out of the water. GT Cafe should NEVER have become the campaign.
GT5 has such a good presentation, you could choose the theme for your home menu, like snowy in christmas and holiday-themed for the summer. Hell, if you play on christmas day, you actually get christmas music.
Spent so much time as a kid dicking around the Top Gear Test Track online, meeting people from all over the world. Some lifelong memories right there, thanks for the great upload!
Love this game! I still miss this time! Played it probably around 2011 till the end. Love the online community features! Sharing car's, Paint and Horn's for example with others. Racing online on custom tracks, seasonal Events and in general the community was awesome compared to now. Seemed like a big friends group! I wish it was still this way these day's.

Damn I forgot about that intro.. that's what inspired 10 year old me to work in auto manufacturing! I loved this game so much, it's great to look back on my favourite GT game
Gt5 is hands down the best one of all the others😊 spending hours playing online and seeing some of the coolest mods other players used and doing car meets, giving and receiving abuse from salty players 😂😂😂
Type S Zero NSX is the fastest Nsx in the game. EG SI 1995 is the fastest hatchback in the game. So many memories going into lobbies. Playing on special stage 7 just so we can tune specifically for 40 rolls and highway pulls😭. If you can tune your Supra RZ 287mph entering and leaving the tunnel, you were fast.
The variety in this game is amazing, the tracks are just beautiful, I wish GT7 had more tracks outside of close circuits like in the middle of the city or roads like this game
I'm not sure about the minimap, it could be probably a bug like something connected to aspect ratio or the emulation, it didn't felt that big or terrible originally at the PS3 even when I played it last time. But what I can say about this game, it is completely amazing, you can see how much details the Japanese puts into showing the cars, the love to the automotive, motorsport and such. It is great you could finally try out the game for yourself. Thanks for the video and have a nice weekend or week or so :)
Great video, and the 'Special' races at Daytona and the Nürburgring (around 48:00) were hilarious. I was wondering what game version of GT5 you're running? I tried a few different ones (1.00, 1.13, 2.00, 2.07, 2.11, and 2.17), but I can never get more than about 30 minutes without a crash in any of them. I'm still enjoying playing it though, and I've almost completed all the license tests with at least a silver.
I would also like to know, 2.17 seems to always crash and is kinda pointless as it adds nothing since 2.11. the main menu says 2012 so its likely either 2.07 or 2.11. definitely not pre 2.0 since the DLC cars are in.
When Gran Turismo 6 was still online, I had my best time in my life. It had a extra app for tablet, which you can create your own track up to 10km, with curbs, stands, bridges and idk what else. The Spec-II mod of Gran Turismo 6 brings back some customized (and modded) tracks, which were saved before the online servers for GT6 was shut down. It's a big shame Gran Turismo 7 doesn't have that anymore
I recently got back to playing gt5. Safe to say, i hate the Jeff Gordon lessons trophies. It's always down to a matter of THOUSANDTHS of a second for gold.
Polyphony needs to bring back the full length endurance races for unique cars and a boatload of cash. I miss pausing a 24 hour race for school and the satisfaction of completing the race
Playing GT5 was an incredible experience. Not only was it the first GT game i REALLY played, ( played 1 and 2, but i was like 6.) The online experience was absolutely something else. The tuning community and the absolute limits people would push cars to was unbelievable, and the car economy that came into the game with rare used cars and trading tunes was amazing. Ill never have another experience like this game was back in its hayday.
This kind of long video with lots of editing and jokes, plus the video content itself which is you playing the game, its really entertaining to watch!!
GT5 Was my first real racing game in regards to being a sim (Only played NFS games before). I played this game from the day it dropped to the very last seconds of the online servers. All told over 5k hours spent in this game during my childhood and build the foundation of my love for cars. I still sometimes hop on my PS3 and play the game. I had literally everything at one point or another and participated in thousands of online races made lots of friends, was part of crews, etc. This game is basically a childhood love for me, thanks for giving me so much nostalgia :)
i was a day one owner of GT5, i remember waiting for its release like no other game! if i remember correctly, that blacked out cockpit view for standard cars wasn't even a day one feature but was introduced in a later patch, like the 1.20
It's been ages since I played Gran Turismo 5. Like yourself I still had a ps2 when it released and then got the game a couple years later when I got a ps3. I do miss playing the game and a shame the online features are gone from 5 and 6. I do remember playing on the top gear test track a lot online and having drag races there. Although annoyingly all my progress on both games have been wiped from the ps3 so that's what stopped me playing as there was hundreds of hours played on each game.
I never even played a GT game before, but this looks fun, and the graphics held up extremely well. 25:36 And don't think I didn't see the Motorstorm titles in the RCPS3 games list, I'm curious to see what you would think of them.
I'm gonna be honest, I prefer 6 over 5 a lot (gave up after finding out the 24h races are actually 24h). But I gotta admit, it's a good game, and I spent an embarrassing amount of time with the track editor
I actually acquired a physical copy of GT5 in september of last year for the ps3, the only thing I havent got first in is the 24 hour races and the Vettel X challenge which Im never going to do
Seeing this gameplay is making me want to finally give this game a shot, I have always said GT4 is the best, but that's likely from nostalgia and the fact I've only played 3 and 4, I think it's about time I go through all GTs and see if any 1-6 can top GT4 as my favorite, since I don't have a PS4 or PS5 for Sport and 7
honestly despite the few flaws it has, gt5 will always be my favorite game of all time, it's vibe, soundtrack, events and features are etched into my brain, and this game got me into both cars and videogames, I don't know how anyone could dislike this masterpiece

Appreciate the effort Eden! I still remember racing the stealth cars back when I was a kid, so much memories from GT5 :D
26:10 And there is the re-roll!
The editing in this is amazing. That Katy Perry cover had me dead.
57:44 Having flashbacks of when I tried to gold this... Spent hours. Insanely hard.
Great video, by the way,
The variety in this game is amazing, the tracks are just beautiful, I wish GT7 had more tracks outside of close circuits like in the middle of the city or roads like this game
I have hours of flipping my cars replays. Long live Trial Mountain!!!
Thanks for the video and have a nice weekend or week or so :)
i used to play Gran turismo 5 with my little brother so much back then
Great video, and the 'Special' races at Daytona and the Nürburgring (around 48:00) were hilarious.
Maybe he runs 1.00
I would also like to know, 2.17 seems to always crash and is kinda pointless as it adds nothing since 2.11. the main menu says 2012 so its likely either 2.07 or 2.11. definitely not pre 2.0 since the DLC cars are in.
@@wumbology72 Good spot, thanks for the info.
26:34 some jokes really write themselves, this was hilarious
I actually started with GT5. When I play it, I sometimes just chill in the menus and listen to the music.
Honestly this game holds a place in my heart cause it was the game that got me into the gran turismo series
That intro bought back a wave of nostalgia, I’m gonna go play GT5 now
When Gran Turismo 6 was still online, I had my best time in my life.
Gran Turismo five is one of my favorite PlayStation 3 game I ever play
49:17 The fact that Edna ACTUALLY beat that race in the bone-stock prize Buick is ACTUALLY insane, that's REALLY challenging
I recently got back to playing gt5. Safe to say, i hate the Jeff Gordon lessons trophies. It's always down to a matter of THOUSANDTHS of a second for gold.
I have a ps3, and i just found the old box of games with things like GT pro series and ferrari challenge wii, and GT5, i am happy
Polyphony needs to bring back the full length endurance races for unique cars and a boatload of cash. I miss pausing a 24 hour race for school and the satisfaction of completing the race
Appreciate the edit, but everybody gangsta till a Vocaloid song arrives in GT5.
2:50 yea you can, i did by completely forgetting the ability to brake
This game!!!!!! I loved it so much as a kid I would play it every single day the intro really took me back!
Im playing the game now on my ps3 lol. Im on level 28 and I have mostly golds on most of races. I been putting in a lot of work since January.
0:26 You can use GT5 master mod to play the online
To this day I STILL play GT5. I just play an endurance race on B spec while I'm at work/school and by the time I get home: profit.
P. Escobar is a great driver name with no obvious flaws
your editing is so much better than before. you deserve way more subs that you are getting currently
4:46 you slept on the GNX too hard, man, not even a mention
I used to play a lot the Arcade mode in this game, the freaking memories are flooding back
I want to play this game again
Seeing the AEM S2000 at the intro was very, very nostalgic.
31:34 Ah, yes. The Roadster Cup sponsored by the National Rifle Association.
the intro is truly awesome, the music is so dope
It was my first Gran Turismo, I loved the fact that you could make your own track
Omg, Gran Turismo 5, I played this for hundreds of hour many years ago. I would drive around in 2P.
Kinda late, but in NL we call the 2CV “the ugly duck” 🫠
Man this brings back so many old memories and racing my dad for hours!
26:34 I’ve been laughing at this for 20 minutes
Honestly my favorite Gran Turismo game ever, just amazing memories along with my PS3. The Mines Skyline is just iconic.
Seeing alot of GT Guys appearance especially in HD makes me giggle of excitement!
i was a day one owner of GT5, i remember waiting for its release like no other game! if i remember correctly, that blacked out cockpit view for standard cars wasn't even a day one feature but was introduced in a later patch, like the 1.20
18:37 look at Civic`s displacement😁😁😉
27:30 AYY, MY GUY FINALLY EVOLVING!!!!
47:16 GT Guy got his anthem
1:07:10 GT Guy about to do *act*
I actually acquired a physical copy of GT5 in september of last year for the ps3, the only thing I havent got first in is the 24 hour races and the Vettel X challenge which Im never going to do
Seeing this gameplay is making me want to finally give this game a shot, I have always said GT4 is the best, but that's likely from nostalgia and the fact I've only played 3 and 4, I think it's about time I go through all GTs and see if any 1-6 can top GT4 as my favorite, since I don't have a PS4 or PS5 for Sport and 7
