I haven't been surf fishing since I was a kid. I'm 60 yo now, live by the beach and going to give it a try. Thanks for keeping it simple. Thanks Justin
Thank you Justin for all your guidance in this video and the many videos of your fishing techniques. I've learned so much and hope to learn more from you in future videos. I'm a 50yr old inland bass fishing guy, headed to the pan handle soon. I'm going to give surf fishing a try with my kids. It's nice that you include your family in many of your videos. Priceless!
I live on Long Island NY and surf fishing the south shore. My Experience has not been all that great but I am not giving up. It seems that I am always either too late or too early every time I go to the beach but I am getting ready for the spring season, can’t wait
I've never fished up that way. You ever catch any stripped bass? Seen some videos from up that way doing that. I am ready for spring too! Cold is no fun for fishing and the sun goes down way to early. Hope your luck changes soon and thanks for watching!
Justin, excellent advice all around. I’ll mention that a Bandaid on your casting finger can prevent a severe cut if you happen to forget to tighten the drag before casting! I learned the hard way some years ago! Ever since, I put a bandaid or two on my index finger, and it works! Lol.
I had a battle 3dx in the 3000 size for my inshore fishing and I loved it so much I bought a 5000 size to surf fish with. I like it more than my spinfisher or my slammer
Thanks. I have no idea what I'm doing. Just moved 2 FL & some friends are coming down to do it... I don't want 2 look like a total fool. This will definitely help. 🤞🏾
Check the liscenes requirement for all your visitors. Fines can be high in my state. Also if your a rookie like me get an app or fishing guide from the local Tackle Shop. I can't tell the difference in any fish without my little book. The Fish and Game personal don't have time for excuses. Their job is to caught people in violation of state laws. Fishermen around you are a great source of knowledge too. Especially the Ole Gruff looking Dude with leather like skin. Strike up a conversation and remember they know the area better than you do. Good Luck!
Hey I love your videos but I had to comment on one thing you said. There are bears at the beach. We were camping at Indian Pass in the Florida panhandle, on the beach, and a bear came through the campground. I couldn’t believe it. Probably will never see another one there. 😊
I'm a veteran surf fisherman East Coast of Florida. Out of curiosity I watched your video and actually it's really good for someone just starting out. The only correction I have is that tsunami makes Pompano rigs that are sold at Walmart for about two-and-a-half dollars and they're not bad but I do change out the corks and replace them with circle hooks. Besides that you're 100% spot-on
Great recommendations! I kinda wish id watched this months ago lol. I blew through $50 worth of pliers in 3 months. Ended up going all out on some Gomexus titanium pliers. Somewhat no regrets lol. Theyve been phenomenal in EVERY way. Just been asking myself constantly if they were really necessary. $150 for pliers is crazy. But i figured at the rate i was burning through pliers, if i can spend $150 and get 2 or 3 years from them then thats a win, i definitely hope they last longer. But i was on pace to spend $100+ on pliers in one year. So if $150 gets me a few years, im ok with it. But it definitely seems like you found a great affordable pair and ill be looking for them next time i need some. I also made the Yeti mistake lol going from a 35L yeti to a 28L bag cooler has been a major game changer. Dropped my carts weight by 30lbs!
They honestly should last a really long time. Especially if they're titanium. I actually just recently had to replace that pair I showed in this video. Thanks for watching and tight lines 🤘
Thanks for this great video dude!! I freshwater fish and have a Penn Reel as well as others. Love my Penn Reel!! I have been thinking about surf fishing and fishing in St Pete on the beach and the bay!! Looks like fun and different fish to catch than freshwater!! My first love is freshwater fishing but surf fishing will be a nice change!! :)
@@JustinReedFishing Yea, there is some of the best freshwater fishing here in Florida and I love it now that I'm retired.....figured I'd learn how to surf fish and go after some bigger saltwater fish!! :)
My buddy keeps telling me I need a Shimano, usually he's telling me this while I'm cleaning my 2004 Penn SpinFishers getting them ready for the season.
@@robdishjr4912 I fish the Navarre and Pensacola area. I need to do more stuff over in Alabama. I know I'll be hitting Fort Morgan a few times this year. Tight lines!
Non-essential equipment question… what are guys using who put up the flags on their cart. I want to fly the Stars and Strips on the beach. I’m guessing it’s PVC, but I’m not sure.
My buddy Brian uses this www.amazon.com/dp/B001JNIHES/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_i_6P0QEARHNWW8EMPJHKEW?pldnSite=1 Seen a few others use an aluminum pole. On the windy days you will need to weigh down your cart. Brian uses a bucket of sand to weigh down his cart.
WOW ! ..... How much Money did you just spend for trying Surf Fishing ?? .... Why not just Use your regular fishing gear and wash it off ? ... Because , It basically comes down to , some Line , a Hook and some Bait ! ... The rest is skill ......... KISS !

Excellent advice Justin! Gonna start this video over again and write up a check list for my next surf fishing trip!
Thanks! Hope you get on some sweet fish!

Can't say I've never sliced my finger open after casting with a loose drag. Band aids work great for that!

June of 44!!! Love that band!

Love some June of 44. Drove to Knoxville a few years back to see them live. Good luck out there on the beach!

Glad to help. Good luck!
Love your hat!!!
Also what iv always done is buy a small sewing kit and use the roll out tape. They don't rust and hold up won't get jammed up with sand
Good call. I might just have to go through my wife's kit and see if she has a few haha.

thank you so much! Really informative!
This is a great video!

put some drag grease on your disks, keep that drag running smooth
My old man always told me when we would go to the outer banks in North Carolina if u can't hold with 6 ounces its time to just catch a buzz lol
🤣

Nice vid🤙
I think this video is just for more than just surf fishing very nice vid

The battle 3 DX is not easy to get I do not know why you would recommend buying one really they are store supplied only in certain places .
This video is almost 3 years old now. I have not used the Battle 4 DX but that is what I would go for now. Tight lines!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks! Good video.
Glad to help out. Good luck out there!
any similar suggestion for jetty/pier fishing
I've only fished the pier once so I'm not the person to really ask. Sorry.
would size 2000 good enough for surf fishing?
Would be fine for most species to start out with but not the size I'd reccomend.
Mantap. Salam dari indonesia

WHERE TO FIND BEACH RUNNER RODS?

@@JustinReedFishing Thank you
Do all these recommendations work for someone in the northeast?
I'd imagine everything but the rig likely would work.
I used to be a Penn guy. They were the last reels made in the USA. The Chinese wannabe Penns are crap.

Snapped a bass rod last week throwing it into the surf, so I'm gonna buy surf specific equipment
@@ryeann2567right? I would hate seeing my st croix mojo bass go to pieces while casting some heavy weight
You seem as if you don't know about anything. Stay downstairs in mom's basement, and let the adults talk.
