The way I see it, as long as Fikrull hasn't consumed a worm, his loyalty is week and he can be wavered from the path of dark. Crow may not become the Hunter vanguard but I feel he could be a sort of Vanguard for the other Race's that follow the path of the light, being the "Father" to the light scorn, an advocate for the Light hive, and a defender of house light. But that's just my own thoughts, so who knows
The witness seems to really like the scorn, perhaps thanks to calus, the witness sees the scorn as the perfect opportunity to help his goals of achieving his victory But what makes the scorn more special over the taken, is it the circumstances that lead to their creation, is it that they have a degree of free will in that they choose to worship the dark whereas the taken have no Will at all, is because they can be shaped far more than the Taken
Honestly, i feel like many people are overlooking the experiments that the Mindbender was doing with Hive, scorn and worm compatibility may not be so crazy
Personally, I think that Fikrul has gone on to become a disciple. Rhulk had to lose everything before the Witness recruited him as a disciple, just like Fikrul has. That in combination with the Scorn being under Rhulk/the Witness' command and him being namedropped during the campaign points to him having joined the Witness.
relistening to this after watching the new lightfall trailer drop makes me wonder if the Tormentors are Scorn Chieftains that have successfully fused with worms or maybe even Scorn Barons
I would like to note that there do seem to be some aesthetic similarities between the Darkness Resonance and Black Armory’s Radiance/Resonance. They both seem to feature that wave-like pattern. It makes me wonder if the BA managed to produce a Light based analogue to the Pyramid technology. Though, far less developed of course. Perhaps Ada could become more important to the narrative later? (Please?)
The Black Armory was opposed to the Light as a tool for us. They believed that Humanity had become soft under the care of the Traveler, and so the founders decided to build weapons and technology to help protect Humanity from any outside threats whilst not being dependant on the big golf ball in the Sky. If anything, I assumed that BA tech implemented some elements of Braytech due to the founders putting Ada into an exobody, and knowing that only Clovis had the tech to make exos and that involves Darkness and Vex mindfluid hints at no Light involved. If anything, back when the Forges were around, I thought they had implemented some level of Vex technology due to the sounds they'd emit being vaguely akin to Vex noises in their echoey blooping and whining.
@@joshuavidrine889 From what I read, my interpretation was that the Armory was not *opposed* to the Light, but didn't want to be complacent about it. Henrietta founded the Black Armoring fearing an oncoming storm and wanting to protect her family if I recall. Ada seems to be different from other Exos in that she's still on her -1 iteration and possesses other unique properties. I have seen theories that is due to Radiance technology.
I can imagine us talking over fikrul to join us using crow to order him as uldren, it would give an interesting plot were crow has to basically relieve his past self for the sake of the mission yet still in fear of becoming that person, possibly not but it would be an interesting story telling perspective
@@TJ-bg4fw a bit of both, I don’t have the time to commit to raids. So in the seven years I’ve played Destiny I’ve probably only done the leviathan pre-cross-save, and the lore has always been good too.
1. Love the vid as always. 2. I think that given it's apparent intelligence, sheer power, and place in Rhulk's plans, I think the possibility of the Caretaker having a throne world is something that should be considered, and looked out for. 3. Birthplace of the Viles lore is likely greatly intertwined with the lore of the raid scorn, but I personally am not super familiar with it. Was on autopilot the one time I played it lmao.
I've been waiting for you to cover the glass encased scorn with worms, which I thought was one of the most interesting things in the raid. Guess we'll have to wait and see about Fikrul, but great video.
This gets me back to thinking about black holes, specifically how they are seen as repositories forever holding in all the "knowledge" they absorb from the universe.
I used to watch your videos when i had questions on lore, but recently I've started watching regularly. You bring such enthusiasm and i dig the theory crafting! Appreciate your hard work duder!
I love how in gameplay you gotta dunk one thing you got from shooting something into another to kill the tall ass dude with a deadly stick, and in lore he experimented on ancient God worms and destroyed his home planet and sun
That looks like roots. I think you’re theory on the concept of destiny’s endgame of light vs dark is symbolism. The tree animation shows a dark silhouette of a tree sprouting forth then it turns white. Mara’s explanation of what it is to be Awoken gives the same image along with the two bird story of her and uldren. For as far light reaches , darkness comes to meet it. Death(the darkness) is trying to bring root to create something , a capability that was given to the light. Death isn’t a rebirth, resurrection is a remnant, the light gives a second chance. Something the darkness never offers without a sacrifice being made.
I honestly like the idea of the caretaker having something to do with memory simply because of the name itself. The care taker(the artist) if you didn’t know was all about exploring memory through music and so I think it is entirely possible that bungie was not ignorant of this when naming the boss.
Thanks for your videos. I've played destiny none stop from the start of D1 all the way through to forsaken. Unfortunately since then I've been in hospital, yes all that time, as such I haven't been able to play since. I am now aloud my series x in hospital so could jump back in but I feel like I've missed so much. Also because they've pulled stuff out the game that I missed I don't know I want to invest so much time again in something that I've missed a huge amount of story and context. I am just undecided, I love the game and the lore and these videos have helped.
You make a note about things labeled resonant within this context don't relate to the black armoury , but look at the waves of energy that are emitting from the caretaker and other darkness related things. They have the same intermittent pattern as the black armoury weapons and forges just a different colour. Perhaps there is more of a connection than it seems.
Stumbled onto your channel just before I started playing D2 (season of the hunt). Thank you for all the time and your dedication to this wonderful world of lore. The content now is soooo good!! Cheers and thank you for everything Byf!
Has anyone noticed how in the legend of zelda there is a rule of 3, 3 times for a boss phase until the boss is defeated. destiny bosses are almost identical to that formula. Just a cool thing I noticed.
Now this piece was finely done, I believe the turn of phrase used here is “ you hit the nail on the head “. This is the evolution reference back in wayfinder missions from Mara worried about “what are they becoming “. A line has already been drawn in this system. We saw the races that were said would join the dark armies in that pyramid with the stone statues. Also side note don’t forget we saw our funeral in the corridors of time. This may play into the story sometime soon with the alliance quest again. Remember a side must be chosen even if it’s the wrong one….we all have a part to play in this game….where do you stand?
I haven't seen newest vid yet but unlike previous vid there is a whine in the background like feedback or a constant tone. Love your work! It stops a little after the resonant shard bit.
This admittedly ONLY occurred to me when you brought up how the term "Resonance" in any context outside of the Black Armor, refers to Darkness-related shenanigans, but- Okay to preface actually - Black Armory never _did_ use the term "resonance" to my knowledge - _"radiance"_ was the word of choice for the stuff with the Obsidian Accelerator and the Scourge of the Past raid. HOWEVER - your bringing it up in this context made me realize that, _to a certain extent_, Black Armory tech, and more specifically, the curious shimmery "radiance" it features, bears a _vague_ resemblance to similar visuals on artifacts of the Black Fleet. I SERIOUSLY doubt there's any actual connection whatsoever there, but the tinfoil-hatter part of my brain does wonder if the similarity was intentional.
Byf for some time now you've gotten some serious audio whine while you're talking. I'm not sure if you've gotta ground a wire or if your audio interface is messing up and you need to replace something, but it's increasingly becoming difficult to listen to your videos. It doesn't happen all of the time, but when it does, it takes away from your brilliant content. Please don't take this as anger or something malicious, I just wanted to bring it to your attention. Applaudable work as always.
the heroic ether collection public event has a new scorn boss type with a stasis shield, not sure if it's been figured out what 'type' of scorn it is but it's definitely different to the others. might be connected to the experimental scorn found in the raid
The ad before this video started was about the Bible, & the guy in the start began speaking about the serpent & I was like did Byf have some new person asking questions about the worms? lol
i thought the encased creatures in ice were infact the krill. in the preservation mission inside one of the buildings, rhulk talks about the krill and fundament and they are inside that room too. they also have a crustacean type look to them.
This scorn stuff reminded me: the Seasons system Destiny has now actually allows the big expansions to focus entirely on the Darkness Races (scorn, taken, maybe a new enemy eventually) without us getting too tired of them. We can still have Vex, Fallen, and Cabal stories in the intermediary. I think we'll get some sort of Season of the Disciples or something featuring setups for maybe Calus, Eramis, Fikrul, and possibly others such as Toland. (Hell, the last main expansion featuring the Vex was *Curse of Osiris,* and the last yearly expansion version of content for the vex was BASE DESTINY. Not counting the Shadowkeep raid)
Fikrul has gotta become a Disciple surely!? Would make sense as to why we see Fanatics Chosen Scorn & why they're so aggressively trying to take the pyramid ship!
It’s also obviously worth stating that during the opening encounter the abomination you kill are deemed “knowledge bearers” so the caretaker could be involved with that or them.
Something that’s interesting to me is that we’ve never had a situation where the scorn “ally” with another race. In the raid, we fight scorn and Taken simultaneously, but they don’t attack each other. I think all the Scorn in the raid are directly controlled by Caretaker/Rhulk/Darkness, just as the Taken are.
Trying to think about this from an alchemic stand point. The Darkness is all about Winnowing, breaking something down to its truest essence. Distillation, purification. This is what the Taken are: distilling an individual to its most fundamental nature. With the Scorn and Worms, the Witness is synthesizing, bringing two unlike things together and getting something more. Creatures that resurrect bonded to creatures with paracausal power. Is it trying to breed a warrior class to counter the Guardians?
Fikrul 100% I think works for the Witness now. His philosophy about changing the Eliksni into the Scorn, talking about evolution has a lot of parallels to the Darkness philosophies like the sword logic / pure survival of the fittest
Are we ever going to talk about how those stasis chambers in the Pyramid look a lot like the things from the Drifter's early gambit lore? When he was stuck on a frozen planet during the Red War?
Fun fact! If you go to the location at 9:40 and turn up your sound, you can hear screaming and cries for help coming from the imprisoned creatures. Pretty creepy.
There's also so deep sounds laughter that can be heard throughout the pyramid and some voices that sound like they're coming from an intercom or something. Plus the usual creepy listening.
What if the Caretaker is the abomination in the Fanatics lair "Fanatics hand" the size matches, Fikrul can revive his scorn, and being basically the only note worthy abomination in the forsaken campaign as we killed him twice (I think) it would make sense and be cool. But he could be some rando scorn guy Rulk liked
In regards to the worms being fed to the scorn. The “worm being fed fed to the scorn” is an assumption, it is just as likely that it is in the process of rejecting the host, which makes it more likely the reason they were put in stasis. Especially if you can see the head of the worm, implying outward transit as opposed to inward.
This was foreshadowed in the Broodhold Strike in the Tangled Shore. Eliksni and Worms trying to be mixed, I mean. But they failed because they were trying to mix real Ether and worms, they needed corrupted ether and the facilities of the pyramid ship.
I do hope that in Lightfall we will get to see who will be the major enemies are. Also, I actually want to see Fikrul appear as a successful result of this experiment. I like scorns the most among all the enemy factions because they have a lot of potential. Like, the Taken are cool but I like how the Scorn feels closer to what the guardians are. An undying army, especially Fikrul.
The Dark Army consists of Xivu Arath's Hive, most if not all of the Scorn, maybe the remnants of House Salvation, Calus' Cabal and the Veil or whatever they end up being called. The Light Army has Humanity (Exos and Awoken included, obviously), hopefully the other Houses of Eliksni and House Light, Caiatl's Cabal, and POTENTIALLY, we could form an alliance with Savathun, temporarily of course. I think bringing her back to team up with her would be a brilliant bit of story, and it wouldn't be out of character to join us in order to protect the Traveller which is all she really wants. The Vex will probably stay neutral with the exception of the Sol Divisive. I can't wait to see where all of this goes.
Ik my message will never be viewed..but “luster” I believe is a form of darkness like stasis… as we see the colors relating the darkness supers .. I feel like bungie is teasing something..
We could call the resonant shard a darkness engine. seems more fitting given that we have other resonant shard like objects but nothing else quite like those.

But that's just my own thoughts, so who knows
that would be an amazing role for him to fit, I would love to see that happen in game
but the scorn hate crow now. they call him betrayer
Byf was really running that double pulse rifle loadout towards the end of that video
The witness seems to really like the scorn, perhaps thanks to calus, the witness sees the scorn as the perfect opportunity to help his goals of achieving his victory
But what makes the scorn more special over the taken, is it the circumstances that lead to their creation, is it that they have a degree of free will in that they choose to worship the dark whereas the taken have no Will at all, is because they can be shaped far more than the Taken
A giant worm tank enemy would be an interesting addition to the Hives roster.
relistening to this after watching the new lightfall trailer drop makes me wonder if the Tormentors are Scorn Chieftains that have successfully fused with worms or maybe even Scorn Barons
(Please?)
well she was around during the collapse
Ooh, that's actually a really good point.
@@joshuavidrine889 I believe the thing that made Ada special though was that her exo body wasn't made using the same methods Clovis used
@@joshuavidrine889 From what I read, my interpretation was that the Armory was not *opposed* to the Light, but didn't want to be complacent about it.
Thank you for all the hard work you're doing and have been doing to give us the deeper story and lore we didn't want to go find on our own
I love this series, it's really letting me live VotD vicariously through the lore
Do you not enjoy raiding or simply just interested in the story of D2?
@@TJ-bg4fw a bit of both, I don’t have the time to commit to raids. So in the seven years I’ve played Destiny I’ve probably only done the leviathan pre-cross-save, and the lore has always been good too.
@@jdguevara93 Fair enough, and thanks for satisfying my curiosity
I just want a cutscene of Mara blasting waves of Scorn into dust while looking at worst mildly disgruntled that they *just keep coming.*
Bro you're the best. I love the quick content you put out. My coworker said to tell you your voice is "captivating"😂😂
This could bring us from the bomb logic of the big bang to the reduction/winnowing of the big crunch.
Worm fed Abomination vs. Lightbearer Ogre would be a phenomenal cutscene
I used to watch your videos when i had questions on lore, but recently I've started watching regularly. You bring such enthusiasm and i dig the theory crafting! Appreciate your hard work duder!
Crow might be the only character in the whole destiny universe that could talk some sence to Fikrul , since you know , has uldren's memories
I love how in gameplay you gotta dunk one thing you got from shooting something into another to kill the tall ass dude with a deadly stick, and in lore he experimented on ancient God worms and destroyed his home planet and sun
everyday things look to be worse and worse for the fate of the last city... I love it
The behavior of the scorn last season is explained now.
11:35 Byf's barricade makes one of his teammates blow himself up with a rocket during DPS.
There's an odd high-pitched feedback noise in this video FYI
Stumbled onto your channel just before I started playing D2 (season of the hunt). Thank you for all the time and your dedication to this wonderful world of lore. The content now is soooo good!! Cheers and thank you for everything Byf!
Next Raid, besides an un-Vaulted one, will have Taniks the Scorned with a Pyramid-tech scooter like the payloads in Bathworld as a boss.
Here's an interesting theory: What if this is the making of a new faction, that we will be introduced to when the Black Fleet descends upon us?
Has anyone noticed how in the legend of zelda there is a rule of 3, 3 times for a boss phase until the boss is defeated. destiny bosses are almost identical to that formula. Just a cool thing I noticed.
A lore video a day keeps the darkness away
Now this piece was finely done, I believe the turn of phrase used here is “ you hit the nail on the head “. This is the evolution reference back in wayfinder missions from Mara worried about “what are they becoming “. A line has already been drawn in this system. We saw the races that were said would join the dark armies in that pyramid with the stone statues. Also side note don’t forget we saw our funeral in the corridors of time. This may play into the story sometime soon with the alliance quest again. Remember a side must be chosen even if it’s the wrong one….we all have a part to play in this game….where do you stand?
Oof that high pitched whine in the background is very sad beans.
When I first saw the Caretaker (on BarbaricHam's Twitch) my first thought was of the earth-like golems that were in grimoires about the Collapse
Im glad for those videos. Even since D1 i wasnt able to play any of the raids so its the only way i can learn the lore.
I haven't seen newest vid yet but unlike previous vid there is a whine in the background like feedback or a constant tone. Love your work! It stops a little after the resonant shard bit.
I always wonder what happened if the Fanatic saw Uldren that he still alive, he always been loyal to him..what will happen with the Scorn horde.
Honestly congrats and thank you for being so dedicated to explaining destiny lore in so much depth
This admittedly ONLY occurred to me when you brought up how the term "Resonance" in any context outside of the Black Armor, refers to Darkness-related shenanigans, but-
Okay to preface actually - Black Armory never _did_ use the term "resonance" to my knowledge - _"radiance"_ was the word of choice for the stuff with the Obsidian Accelerator and the Scourge of the Past raid.
Getting the same here
Don’t hear it at all sounds fine for me
@@JDxxxxxx are you wearing headphones? I heard it right away

the heroic ether collection public event has a new scorn boss type with a stasis shield, not sure if it's been figured out what 'type' of scorn it is but it's definitely different to the others. might be connected to the experimental scorn found in the raid
Byf, I just wanted to say I've really been looking forward to these vids lately. Thank you and keep up the great work.
The ad before this video started was about the Bible, & the guy in the start began speaking about the serpent & I was like did Byf have some new person asking questions about the worms? lol
I‘m pretty sure the Caretaker is just what his name implies: a caretaker
This was definitely the right thumbnail
i thought the encased creatures in ice were infact the krill. in the preservation mission inside one of the buildings, rhulk talks about the krill and fundament and they are inside that room too. they also have a crustacean type look to them.
The scorn becoming subsumed by the witness would explain them organizing ritual combat akin to the crucible back in season of the lost.
This makes me want to learn the raid just to checkout the worm and ice cases
Lubrae’s Ruin should’ve been an exotic weapon instead of a legendary. It’s literally the raid bosses weapon
I think all the Scorn in the raid are directly controlled by Caretaker/Rhulk/Darkness, just as the Taken are.
thank you for your service, byf
Hey byf, loved the thumbnail. I see you took my advice and advice of others. Love the vids. Keep them going 👍👍👍
Caretaker be like: K N A W L E D G E
Loving the content rollout!!!!
It would be pretty cool if the next expansion showcases a destroyed traveler (a different one from the one in the last city) as a raid destination.
Just no.
@@MonstertruckBadass not our traveler. But a traveler. There has to be more than one.
@@hatol614 I mean yeah but don't put all the cool and important stuff in raids
Thank you, Sir Byf, Loremaster.
Thank you Byf as always for the excellent content and thought provoking speculation! I’m waiting eagerly for more videos from you
Right off the bat, a Guardian mowing down some Taken.
I would have imagined that the Locust of Communion was involved in the scorns allegiance with the darkness in some way.
If you think about it, the Scorn are undead Fallen who've been reanimated. There could be a way of reanimating the Worms too.
I think the Titan raid armor (specifically the legs) has an interesting tie in to this video...
Funny that Xita is "Shy-ta" but Xivu is "Zee-voo"
Isn't it possibly (or likely) that Fikrul will become the Witness' new disciple in Rhulk's place? Seems like a perfect fit to me.
perhaps Fikrul has also been given a worm, and is therefore taking on a role akin to the krill sisters
Ik my message will never be viewed..but “luster” I believe is a form of darkness like stasis… as we see the colors relating the darkness supers .. I feel like bungie is teasing something..
You're amazing my man!! And THANK YOU! was driving myself nuts thinking where fikrul went 😆 no one I played with who knows lore cared lol
We could call the resonant shard a darkness engine. seems more fitting given that we have other resonant shard like objects but nothing else quite like those.
Calling it now, worm infused scorn are gonna be a new enemy type in lightfall
