"My man" is a funny phrase. Because originally it meant a form of servant, one who had pledged to do your bidding and work for you. And now it means a friend, typically one who helps you out with stuff. Which is completely different yet bassically the same.
I think the thing that fascinated me the most about VOG was that your guardian didn't die by stripping of light or ghost death to subsequent guardian death, your guardian died of being erased from time. Imagine if someone was talking about you in the Tower or the city while you're raiding VOG and you're erased, that conversation would either change to another guardian, or wouldn't even happen. A bit crazy, yes?
Well if you were erased from time humanity would be dead. Saint-14 wouldn't have been inspired by us to kill more fallen, fallen would've killed humanity. Probably.
Who's to say it hasn't? We are the singular, unique Guardian that can weild both light and dark. Each and every one of us that comes along, until we are not
I almost spat up my cofee when Byf read the line "like my man Oryx". I love the fact that the darkness refers to Oryx like a surfer talking about one of his bros.
i always liked the idea of fallen and cabal as allies, the hive as the villains and the vex are just an aggressive force of nature who fuck over everyone and everything
I will forever hold my personal headcanon that the first raid team to go into the Vault was comprised of six Guardians. It could easily be just a misinterpretation of the leftover ghost shells; they could all in theory be Praedyth’s from different timelines or just stray Guardians. I’ve always thought it was strange that we had to find three ghost shells in addition to Praedyth’s. But my rationale at that point is that 3 of their 6 were victims of the Oracles/Gorgons and were erased. Not even Pahanin remembers them.
After thinking about Kabyr’s line “The needle is the will of Atheon, I do not know the name of the shape that comes after,” and realized that Atheon and the vault aren’t trying to weave the vex into and through time. He’s trying to weave time into the vex
Thats what i was thinking. Like hes the glue to hold their desired timelines??? I dont know if that makes sense but its what came to mind when i read it
@@killingtime4444 I think it's more that Atheon is there to make all the time lines have a similar result. So once they find a timeline where the desired result happens, Atheon is the one who tries to apply that result to all timelines. That would explain why it would need the ability to freely move through time and simultaneously cause things to cease to exist. If you have the ability to move through all timelines as well as move backwards and forwards through time, it'd be pretty simple for you to pluck the "weeds" keeping them from their goal. Probably why the vault of glass is so important. It's essentially the "ship" that allows for him to travel through time in a similar way to how we garudians travel between planets. Without it, the infinite forest would mean nothing.

I have a serious question: We always say that what the Darkness says is untrustworthy, but if we received messages from the Traveler, we would trust them? and should we?
You make a good point, but also The traveller - Gave us a golden age - Extended our lifespans - Has protected us from various threats - Has gifted us with powers - Gave us cute ghost companions to hang out with The darkness - Has admittedly given us powers (Sort of) - Has tried to fuck us over various times - Powers up all our rivals - Uses the sword logic - Is basically represented by the Witness (Who wants to fuck us up) - And is known to corrupt people using what they desire most So... Y'know. Maybe a little untrustworthy compared to the traveller
@@hazeltree7738 We have learnt that the Darkness is not really an entity, but another governing force inside the Destiny 2 universe. If the Darkness (not the Witness, the Darkness itself) spoke to us, I'd trust it as much as if the Traveller spoke to us.

“Praedyeth’s Timepiece” was the name of the legendary raid pulse rifle and I’ll never forget it. It was an arc damage pulse rifle with a hellava hair trigger. It was not “No time to explain.” “No Time to explain” is an exotic that’s from “Elsie Bray” also known as “The Stranger” in Destiny one. The rifle she wielded was called “The Stragers Rifle” which you received after completing Destiny 1’s campaign. It didn’t become “No time to explain” until after either “The Taken King” or “Rise of Iron. I could be wrong on the installment but that I’m absolutely on point with Praedyth’s Timepiece. That gun was so vicious they didn’t even put it in the D2 version of VOG. Lol.
Maybe it's just me, but Patternfall reads a bit like Lovecraft to me. The mood, sentence construction and word usage is quite reminiscent of Lovecraftian texts and if there is a connection, that can add extra spiciness to the Vex lore.
Y'know, part of me wonders if there was actually six who went down into the vault alongside Kabr, Praedyth, and Pahanin, but they... y'know... got wiped from existence. Three other guardians who "never existed" yet stood shoulder to shoulder with three who did. Makes me shudder to think about it.

I had to do a double take on the literal embodiment of darkness saying “my man oryx”
“If nobody got our back, we know my man oryx got our back” - the Witness
Ahh yes the good ole days in D1. This video right here is why VoG will forever be my favorite raid. Just dealing with the oracles scared tf outta me. Always thinking “plz no eraes me frum tiem”
The writers at bungie must really love Dan Simmons and Ian M Banks. Vex are similar to the Technocore from Hyperion in many ways. I adore this type of creative storytelling.
Byf, I hope you are rocking the “Chronicler” title in D2. Thanks for what you do!
I wish you uploaded these to Spotify. Would be good to listen while I'm driving.
5:28 I like the cover book for patternfall on the left side. :)
Guardians make their own fate.
As 6 missile titans come crashing down on a poor transparent Minataur.
I'm gonna cry when that message pops up again
"I think i have a paradox in my vault" sjdsjsh.
I would love to know more about the hunter who ran away from the vault of glass and what happen with him. Do the city believe that he or she just got insane? do the hunter drift with paranoia and guilt? LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!
Watch out for a flashbang at 29:02! Good to know it's not just me that gets blinded every time.
haven't watched in awhile, dam I forgot how ASMR Byf's voice is!
What's kinda sad is the vault is, to this day!, the only raid i've EVER completed
Lore Lord Byf is back
Yup, got YT premium just to listen to Byf videos while having my phone in my pocket at work. AMA.
I still believe that Atheon is a prisoner in his own realm and hated the idea of vex worshipping the darkness.
Wait. Good guy?
Yea, all vex are scared and do not worship the darkness, except for the Sol Divisive
Yea the vex are at war with the sol division
Just imagine being the oracle that the guy decided to drink. Like you're just you know sitting there being a super computer calculating all kinds of stuff and all of a sudden you got to calculate you getting drunk by some random ass dude.
Byf: "It's something that listeners of this channel know intimately. Say it with me:"
Me: "Savath- Paracausality, yeah"
this vid makes me so jelly of the Eyes Rocket Launcher!
I have a serious question: We always say that what the Darkness says is untrustworthy, but if we received messages from the Traveler, we would trust them? and should we?
yes because the traveler doesn't think everyone should die because we're all gonna die and murders innocent races to prove that point
You make a good point, but also
The traveller
- Gave us a golden age
- Extended our lifespans
- Has protected us from various threats
- Has gifted us with powers
- Gave us cute ghost companions to hang out with
The darkness
- Has admittedly given us powers (Sort of)
- Has tried to fuck us over various times
- Powers up all our rivals
- Uses the sword logic
- Is basically represented by the Witness (Who wants to fuck us up)
- And is known to corrupt people using what they desire most
So...
Ngl, hearing Eye of the Gate Lord start about 2/3 in brought a smile to my face
All hail thee lore daddy and his gracious gifts of lore
No
I remember grinding d1 hard to get level 25 so we could enter the VOG, was level 23 on venues fan boy helping another team open the gate and followed them in. Got lost & crushed by the Gorgons. Starting to feel that tingle for some Destine2.
Am new here but I been watching your videos when I cook and have sometime to think about the lore of destiny. I must say this you as a UA-camr have made me re-fall in love with this this game 🎮 I wanted to thank you for making your amazing videos and how deep you go down the well to get the lore out like a water bucket 🪣 when I play destiny know my friends think am a super lore guy but am not am just saying what your saying pretty much and of course I always say your name so they go check you out lol
As someone who has played since the Destiny 1 beta and to this day has never completed more than a single raid encounter, 4 man gauntlet in Leviathan, I look forward to finding a team to take on the raid that I always wanted to do. So much hype for VoG, thanks for the video Byf it was amazing as the always are.
I love that the Vex are basically just the end state of a universe without Space Magic.
Love the vex, my fave enemy class. thanks for making this
“Praedyeth’s Timepiece” was the name of the legendary raid pulse rifle and I’ll never forget it. It was an arc damage pulse rifle with a hellava hair trigger. It was not “No time to explain.”
“No Time to explain” is an exotic that’s from “Elsie Bray” also known as “The Stranger” in Destiny one.
Lol.
The Darkness saying “My Man Oryx” made it for me 😂😂
Maybe it's just me, but Patternfall reads a bit like Lovecraft to me. The mood, sentence construction and word usage is quite reminiscent of Lovecraftian texts and if there is a connection, that can add extra spiciness to the Vex lore.
7:55 LMAO THAT WYVERN WENT FLYING
Y'know, part of me wonders if there was actually six who went down into the vault alongside Kabr, Praedyth, and Pahanin, but they... y'know... got wiped from existence. Three other guardians who "never existed" yet stood shoulder to shoulder with three who did. Makes me shudder to think about it.
Kabr sounds too smart to be a crayon eating titan 😅
Just a Vex Milk drinking one.
I worry about Drifter, putting Vex Milk in his coffee, dreaming about cooking and eating Vex…
Damn, it's been so long since I've watched a Byf lore video! (Been taking a break from D2 since November of 2020) Definitely was expecting the crazy music from TSLAYP XD Can't wait to get back into the Vault!
Excellent video Byf!
Byf. Don't ever stop. Your videos are the reason I play Destiny. Sure, the lore is from the Devs and the original creators and technically they would be the real reason I play Destiny, but YOU are the one that makes it understandable and available and obtainable. Thank you.
I watch you when i want to sleep thanks for posting good content
Thanks for making my time in the queue interesting❤️
Always enjoy your videos Love the vault of glass can't wait for the next 1 in d2. All the new players will understand what you mean in the Vault of glass .
Winnower: Oryx, My man!
Oryx: Aye! 👉🏻👉🏻
Winnower not gardener, the gardener is the traveler.
Ah I see my mistake I just assumed gardener cause yknow garden of salvation
@@dagrombomb9527I can see that thinking
Phenomenal!! Great video on the Vex, paracausality, and how we are the one thing the Vex scratch their collective heads about.
The Darkness: ORYX! My Man!
No one talking about how his Sturm has over 90 overcharges :')
Thought I was the only one, but I'm alone no longer
that's not that uncommon
