I once found a painted turtle with a sharp thing coming out of the corner of its eye. I tugged at it with fine pliers thinking it was a thorn but it ended up being the tip of a HOOK, something she had apparently bitten and the point had gradually over time worked its way through the roof of her mouth into her eye socket. I took her to a vet who was able to surgically remove the hook and even save her eye, miraculously.

I just saw a video about a man who helped a tiger shark by removing a hook 20 years ago and is still friends with her. He has removed 4 hooks from her over the years. Since this diver goes diving three times every day, this shark must have seen him often in the same waters this shark calls home. The diver became a familiar person like someone you might see on the subway every day on your way to work. He became part of the shark's world and would be the one that the shark would feel comfortable asking for help since the diver didn't act threatened or threatening. What is also amazing is the intelligence of the shark and its understanding that men can help.
From what I've heard, sharks are just swimming and eating machines....obviously that's not true. This shark exhibited thought processes.....enough to keep trying to tell this diver that it needed help by bumping into him. It must have experienced pain and that is why it swam away after first attempt to get the hook out.......but, it came back !! And then again to bump camera to show its thanks!! Amazing!!!
Poor girl. I'm so glad this brave man was able to help her! I hope she didn't get any kind of infection, but apparently sharks are pretty resilient to that. What an amazing story. May she live a long life!! 💙🌊🦈
It helps a lot that the wound is continuously bathed in salt water. Kind of like seals who are freed of fishing nets, etc, while on the shore. Some of that stuff leaves nasty open wounds behind. But then the seal heads into the water where the wound will be cleaned with the best antiseptic - salt water.
@@BirdmanVeganFuture Ugh. Those trawling nets hurt and kill thousands of lovely, beautiful sea creatures without a thought. All they care about is making money; they couldn't care less about the poor animals that suffer from our ignorance and stupidity. 😖😠😡🤬😫😥
They watch us and many communicate with each other or teach each other. I'm sure they're smarter than we give them credit for. The same way orcas target boats but so far don't seem to target solitary humans, and many creatures approach divers or single humans, I think they figured out that we are inclined to help.
I used to clean shark tanks in large public aquariums and after several months the sharks would come and visit me they get comfortable. What I learned is these man has a steady heart rate. I had a friend that worked with me and he was always very nervous and the shakes would never approach him. The sharks can feel and sense your heart rate and an array of things your body expels that you don't even realize. They have had millions of years to evolve this super powers and believe me they know how to use them really well.
Wild creatures can sense fear and anxiety in a human. It's a trigger for a predator that hunts other animals in order to eat. All cats, from a housecat to a mountain lion will give chase if something starts running in their presence. They can't help themselves it's in their nature. Like dragging a string in front of your little pet kitty. Riding a bike or jogging in cougar country is a big risk every time you do it. The movement may cause the big kitty to chase and take you down.
@@tupapisoyyo676 True, it does baffle them, but still not always a fail safe. It takes that 300+lb animal about 3 seconds to realize it can kill you easily and they're no stranger to violence. We have black bears up here, and people are so frightened of them but they don't bother humans at all. They're actually scared of us. They come in my yard, and if you yell HEY they take off lol. Our one dog chased one 4x his size right up a tree, that was a site to see. Unless it's a momma with cubs, then she'll tangle with you.
The amount of agony that poor thing had to endure as the hook slowly worked it’s way down, it probably felt like this human was some divine mercy giver. No wonder it basically went puppy mode.

Anyone who risk their life to help an animal, Wild or Domestic, not only deserves, but commands respect. That being said.... to those who do.... you are greatly appreciated much more then you'll ever know..... so allow me to say Thank You on behalf of those of us who recognize such acts of compassion and kindness.

We once found a sand shark that had gotten tangled in fishing line. We cut it loose and it swam off but it felt good to be there to help it. Those are rare experiences, good for you for helping that shark out. Sharks have feelings too. 😊
This diver is incredibly brave, intuitive and kind. I thank him from the bottom of my heart xxxxxxxx What I find utterly amazing too, is that the shark had the intelligence and knowledge to know that only a certain type of human could help her. It sounds so cool, this creature comes to person, seeking help. In my experience, wild creatures that are wounded, or suffering from dehydration, starvation, or otherwise in great distress simply abandon their normal response to the presence of humans. We misinterpret this.
What a selfless act of love and kindness! I’m in awe of this diver, and the fact that he didn’t swim away, but instead he decided to investigate why the shark kept bumping into him! And as the shark bumped into him, she was showing her belly to the diver! Awesome! And so intelligent! YAAAY!!! Happy ending to what could’ve been a sad and slow death for her… 😉☺️

@ Johnney Coon You have to take into consideration this man is an experienced diver, used to lemon sharks "bumping" divers. Not every diver can say that. Not every experienced diver would be so calm as to think, something's wrong. I know I would be scared s*** !
Yes, as we complicate the world more and more, our animal friends are going to need more help to cope with the consequences. We absolutely OWE it to them to give them every kind of care, assistance and compassion we can muster.
For years animals have shown their gratitude that often exceeds that of humans. Even large and sometimes dangerous ones such as lions, tigers & bears have shown that sense of gratitude. They have very long memories.
I marvel at wild animals knowing to ask humans for help. They just know. How do they know? It's quite remarkable. Bless this man for helping the shark ~ He'll remember it forever.

@@Justin.Martyr I'm guessing you are referring to the computer the Tally of 2, and the Empty Comment Box #1 above you (in comment spot #2)? Thank you for calling attention to this rather puzzling conundrum--"A Mini Who Done-It" if ever there was one. I see your powers of deduction are swift and sure. May I suggest, your highlighted conclusion seems a tad premature despite your leap of judicious observation...without due process. Why? 1. Perhaps, what we have all just witnessed in and between your words and word choice, syntax, capitalization strategy emboldened by the outcome you are seeking... is what seems (at first glance to be) Blame Shifting. You Sir, were the first to call it in. Again, I ask, Why? I think we could all agree that it might have as easily been you who deleted the first message submitted in response to my comment. Perhaps, that missing comment was written in support of my line of thinking and/or the way my thoughts were communicated. Your word choice is leading (at the very least) those that follow to accept your automatic conviction of me as the culprit (you directly pointed your derogatory assessment of what had transpired to eradicate any comment that may have been submitted before you arrived on the scene). While calling--what to you looked like an intentional, mean spirited, and controlling decision-- as an act of "Killing" and in this case, whatever was put down was missing "the 1st response message." Could it not have been you venting in the first comment box? And, then, maybe you remembered what happened the last time you talked like that to someone on Facebook. Maybe you know about as little as I do about computers. Maybe, you deleted your venting message and got out of Dodge, without thinking. Ultimately, leaving you unsatisfied or to have failed. You decided to give it another go. And, there it is. Perhaps, forever. Friend, you couldn't possibly have been trying defame me by casting-- what appears to be-- some very serious aspersions upon me, could you? I hardly think so since you don't even know me, nor I you. I will leave it there. You are also a suspect. 2. The missing text or empty comment box that raised the tally to 2, might have been caused by Computer Error. Glitches happen all the time in humans and in computers, thanks in part to the humans who programmed them. Maybe it wasn't a glitch, maybe Facebook has created and implemented some AI Software to serve as Conversation Monitor, Referee, and perhaps, Controller thereby, following the laws that govern this sort of discourse or to analyze the data share and the F.B. Users operating here. Maybe dear Sir, or should I more correctly refer to you by your online name, "Justin Martyr" maybe you are a Computer Bot doing the work you were programmed to do...sew seeds of doubt, undermine the credibility of certain people or just the ideas being shared that seem to be gaining traction (until you came along 15 people had Liked my Comment). What was it in my message that you were against? I can't recall saying anything derogatory. Is it me, personally, you are following around with your mini mission being that of heckler? That is such a ludicrous idea. The possibility of which just makes me laugh. Then, one never knows, maybe it really is just a slow day in Botland. 3. Perhaps, one of the people who gave my comment a thumbs up decided to reply. But, when attempting to do so, they read over my rather longwinded comment and thought it was just too much work to figure out where to start with their response to my response. So, being a person who values their time, just left and behind them an empty comment box was left in the wake of their departure. 4. If Facebook does have "A Governor" programmed to "Block Any User From Monkeying" with any of the Comments, or Replies to Comments...other than their own, there could be a very slim possibility I inadvertently deleted that comment. Why, I ask you again, would I intentionally do that? Good or bad, if there was a comment left in Comment Box # 1, I take that as a win for us all! In my opinion, the more people who take the time to really give some thought and attention to what is being said in our public discourse today, and then asap put their real thoughts, feelings, and questions into the discussion underway: be it in writing or by saying outloud what matters to them. I am just learning--after years of suffering in silence--to speak my mind. I don't want to take away anyone's right to freely speak. It takes so much courage to voice your opinion, particularly when what you have to say is so important... especially when its a matter of life and death. We must value life, respect it, protect it, and try to understand its purpose, position, and look for its promise. If I, inadvertently caused, any person's opinion to be silenced because it was made in relation to my own opinion and that somehow offended me...the delete key is not the answer. If someone or somebody is trying to defame, diminish, or intimidate you and I to such an extent that we fear the consequences of their direct actions and influence over others....I would just report it to Facebook and let them do what they can do best On second thought, we should not wait too long for ill will to gain a malevolent life of it's own. Keep good records, take screen shots, and it will be there for you to share if the negative, over the top, actions of the few persist. We can take charge of how we experience the present and, perhaps, influence what happens in the future by our choices. I know this has been long. A great writer could get it said with a few carefully chosen words. I am learning. I guess my first priority is to learn to respond (especially when what is in question is important, like one's character and intention/s), to give voice to my thoughts, and in this process I am working on my ability to be fair, concise, and respectful. Being kind and respectful is important to me. While I want to live in a world where everyone is treated kindly, fairly, and respectfully...it is so hard to live up to these standards when others are not. Self righteousness, however, justifies little, maybe nothing. Way more than enough said over this controversy, in this arena. Thank you, to anyone who indulged me with their time and attention. I will remember this kindness and try to do likewise. Mr. Justin Martyr, thank you for telling what you really thought. It turned out to be a gift really: a lesson, a reprimand, and an opportunity.

@@shayshay9764 Oh blow it out your ass. Obviously I'm anthropomorphizing. It's how we make sense of something we can't possibly actually understand, being a completely different species and all. That said, my point still stands. You don't see dogs seeking out cattle to help their puppies. They find humans. You don't see sharks looking for a dolphin to remove the hook. They find a human. Most won't seek us out, because fear. But those that do, on some level, do it because of a knowledge that maybe they can help. Either they have experience with us already, were helped by us before... or they just for some reason instinctively know. Or maybe they just got lucky.

To the shark I give them a A+ for finding help and showing good instincts, trust and signs of pacivity to not scare the diver. To the diver I give him a A+ as well for bravery, knowledge and keeping a level head. To the fisherman who used and lost the hook I give them a F- for not having the proper gear for what they were fishing, losing the hook and because most of the injured animals in the ocean and most of the waste in the ocean is because of fishing and the fishing industry.
What if it was a fisherman and the shark took his catch? Could be he caught a shark instead of a marlin and cut the line...still the fisherman's fault...Yea, good call, he gets an F-!
Commercial fishermen are trying to channel their impulse to commit genocide. They can't do it on humans so they carry out their genocide impulse in the oceans. Same goes for all the meat vampires of the degraded and decayed human race.
As a hunter, I feel this animal needed help and was grateful. It's always hard to take from nature for food, seems like we are always taking and never giving back,
Absolutely astonishing! Animals are amazing and I cant fathom how she (the lemon shark) “knew” this thing obviously bothering her was something a human could help with! Did she know it ws some sort of human fashioned “thing” and perhaps if she could show it to a human they would take it back and this remove it from her flesh? I am so glad he removed it and hope she heals fully and lives happily ever after. I wonder just what animals do think of humans and the various things they bring with them. Apparently the sharks -and various other creatures in stories similar to this one - are able to understand humans have the ability to grasp and manipulate things in the environment. Can they discern our hands and fingers and understand their capabilities? Or do they simply recognize something that isnt natural and know on some level it came from us and try to “give back” something painful or bothersome that has somehow intruded into their lives? I know my musings sound ridiculous BUT you can’t deny what just happened in this video and others like it. There is definitely some higher level thinking and analysis going on there, and even tho we are projecting some of our own interpretation on to the creature (ie sayijng it was Thanking him and the cameraman - sure, we cant know that BUT it was acting out of the ordinary and trying to get the diver’s attention even going so far as to maneuver so the diver could see the area where hook was! Astounding and amazingly intelligent - and I want to know how what when where they truly are thinking and communicating!!! :-)
I am starting to believe the same thing. After watching many videos of human animal interactions, I believe animals are well aware of us and are capabilities.
A long time ago I saw a programme explaining how sharks (not sure if it's all sharks or just certain types) have to keep moving all the time so water flows over their gills. If they stop, they die. It went on to show a large underwater rock outcrop that, because of it's shape and position, had a current permanently flowing under it. At any one time there's half a dozen or so poorly sharks resting under the outcrop. The current flows over them at the perfect speed so they can survive without moving and presumably try and recover from whatever is ailing them. Uncanny that they know where this current is and what it means for them.
Why do you think wild animals fear us, they obviously understand the threat we are. Capable or great love and extreme hatred, the ultimate predator and the relentless helper and they look the same.
I’m seeing more and more videos of animals coming to humans for help with getting trapped and caught and hooked and fed. It’s beautiful to see the wild animals coming people in trust and the people not being scared and willing to assist with an open heart.
That's a very good explanation of the situation actually. Incredible world. Shark was like "you've got thumbs, help me!"
From what I've heard, sharks are just swimming and eating machines....obviously
that's not true. This shark exhibited thought

this diver that it needed help by bumping into him. It must have experienced pain and that is why it swam away after first attempt to get the hook out.......but, it came back !!
And then again to bump camera to show its

She's definitely gonna remember him now. I hope he made notes about her appearance so he'll recognize her if he sees her again.
Most sharks are blind and see through a combination of the electromagnetic spectrum and smell.
True
Infection? Sharks are known to pack mercurochrome in their travel satchels.

I think it’s wild how animals know that humans can help them and somehow figure out a way to communicate with us to get that help.
Makes them seem more alive if that makes sense
Some understand not all unfortunately. I've tried helping animals before but they wouldn't come to me so I could☹️
Not all animals. Specifically marine animals don’t have a natural fear of humans like most land animals.
They were designed to be subject to us.
@@catherinehazur7336very true..animals will stop in their tracks when humans show no fear. Elephants are a perfect example.
@@tupapisoyyo676 True, it does baffle them, but still not always a fail safe. It takes that 300+lb animal about 3 seconds to realize it can kill you easily and they're no stranger to violence.
While calling--what to you looked like an intentional, mean spirited, and controlling decision-- as an act of "Killing" and in this case, whatever was put down was missing "the 1st response message."
Could it not have been you venting in the first comment box?

Either they have experience with us already, were helped by us before... or they just for some reason instinctively know. Or maybe they just got lucky.
Exactly. I once helped a shark with his math homework.
Then they eat you
Happy ending. Was holding my breath.
You don't hear of sharks needing help very often, actually, it's quite rare to experience a situation such as that. I'm glad the diver could help her, I believe he has made a new friend. Thanks for sharing this story with us, I thoroughly enjoyed it. BTW, I'm subbed and all that stuff, lol, I really enjoy your shows.
This is so amazing, how did the Lemon Shark even know where to look for help.
I’m happy the hook is out, thanks to the young diver !!
Even Sharks have feelings. Awesome Job Brother for helping our wildlife.
I have heard people say about shark fishing: "It doesn't hurt them. The hook just rusts out of their body." Hmmm. I don't think so. Thank you for helping this shark.
Awesome thank you for helping the Lemon Shark Jesus Christ is smiling upon you for your kindness.😁👏👍🕊🙏🏻
This was truly a heroic act of kindness 🥰
Awesome job! There is something very special when humans help needy animals.
A beautiful example of interspecies working together.
I couldn't be happier and more thankful to this amazing kind and very brave man....Im an animal lover of all land and sea creatures and if I'm able to rescue or help in any way I will...However, I seriously dont think I would've been brave enough to do what be did...Im so glad that there are people like this man who can balance out the universe, we should all do what we are capable of, any act of kindness regardless how small is appreciated by God's beautiful creatures that he left in our care....Much Love and Respect to Animal Rescuers all over the world ❤🙏🙏🙏🙏❤
Thank you so much for realizing something was wrong and help this beautiful creature
God bless this compassionate man!
Exactly!
Gold comment!💛
What if it was a fisherman and the shark took his catch? Could be he caught a shark instead of a marlin and cut the line...still the fisherman's fault...Yea, good call, he gets an F-!
Well the fishing lines are thin and can be broken....
Commercial fishermen are trying to channel their impulse to commit genocide. They can't do it on humans so they carry out their genocide impulse in the oceans. Same goes for all the meat vampires of the degraded and decayed human race.
🦈 sharks are beautiful! 🦈❤️
As a hunter, I feel this animal needed help and was grateful. It's always hard to take from nature for food, seems like we are always taking and never giving back,
Yes, I never thought of this, but it's true. Thanks for your wisdom.
Haha you are no hunter and everything you said is that of a snowflake ❄️
Remember, sharks have been around for millions of years, the ultimate survivors. And they haven't achieved that status by being dumb.
@@Bob1014ify Of course they are.Far from dumb I mean & ultimate survivors.
Sharks are not “bad” and “dangerous” creatures unless you threaten them . Thank you for posting this to show people not to be so afraid. 💙✨🙏 🦈
Think how painful that must have been! What a smart girl to ask for help.
That's a beautiful story. Thank you diver.
Yeah, I'm that person who will put my own life on the line to save any animal. I'll save anything if I can, because most of the time it's a human action that has caused the issue to begin with. Animals are in the way and are disposables to a lot of humans. Good for this dude, he definitely did a great deed
God bless this diver! 🙏❤️
This beautiful story fills my heart with joy. Animals are clever. Thank you.
Omg, it was so heart-warming to see the grateful shark save the guy from the pirates at the end! I so didn't expect that!!
As a diver I can say Sharks are highly *intelligent* and not as menacing as people make them out to be. Glad this had a happy ending for the shark!
