After this song came out, Disturbed got the greatest compliment you can get for doing a cover. The original artist, Paul Simon, contacted David and told him that the song now belonged to Disturbed. I'm 70 so I was around for the original. Us old folks thought the original was written as a warning at the direction society seemed to be heading. The first section of Disturbed interpretation seems to express sadness that the warning hadn't been heeded and the last section the anger at the direction society had followed.
You are so right on my elder🤗💕I'm 64 and this is my nightly Lullaby. I am a fan of this man and the band. Have listened to most of their music. Artists they are. I pray for the new year. Be well Sir.
"The original artist, Paul Simon, contacted David and told him that the song now belonged to Disturbed." As much as I wish that was true, sadly you are mistaking what Trent Reznor said about Johnny Cash covering his song "Hurt". Simon did however tell David that it's the best rendition of the song out there and it's how he wished S&G could have sung it 50+ years ago - Paul even linked the Conan live version on his official web page.
The first time I heard Disturbed sing Sound of Silence, I about jumped out of my skin. I know the song so well from the '70s, but Disturbed, imo, brought it up to the here and now. The gentle reminder is now a full-blown warning. And his singing voice - wah!
I'll never forget hearing this cover for the first time. I was cleaning up after a shift at work. This came over the radio and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I literally just stood as still as a statue until it was over.
This is a MASTERPIECE of a cover. I never paid much attention to the lyrics when the original was played. When Disturbed came around... they DEMANDED me to LISTEN and feel the meaning of the lyrics. 🎼🎵🎶🎵 Sadly the the lyrics are as current as they were when written in the late 60'ies.
@@AK_J.Reed24 I think that is why I am loving these current independent artists so much. They bring an honesty that seems to have been missing from music for a while now. Even current mainstream country music has lost and is lacking the honesty and authenticity. I guess that is why if I listen to anything current it is mostly from these independent artists. Otherwise, I tend to always listen to older music wether it be rock, hard rock, metal, country, etc. because the name of the game in current mainstream music tends to be the same no matter what genre it happens to be.
@@heartofdixiechick587 I’ve come to love Tom MacDonald’s music too, he’s 100% independent, he’s real & tries to bring people together through many different ‘types’ of songs
@@AK_J.Reed24 Oh, I am HOG forever! I really started listening to him about 6 months ago and then found Nova. There is no other artist that shows more love for their fans.
I've learned that David Draiman and Disturbed addresses depression, addiction and suicide during every concert, performance offering support and understanding. They are one of the most popular, beloved bands of our time! ❤❤❤😊
I was lucky enough to see this song live. Moving doesn't decribe it. Brought almost all of us to tears. Giy in front of me all of 6'4 at least 250 lbs, tattooed hige beard , tears flowing. Awesome song.
He has one of the greatest voices ever in rock music. He can absolutely sing anything. I have been to their concert, and he is just as good live. He is unbelievable.
In my opinion, no one does it better than David Draiman....what an amazing voice. The man can sing anything. Can go from clear as a crystalline bell to vocal fry and back on a dime......sooo impressive! Also love the tonal properties of his voice....have never heard any like his before!

Awesome reaction! I love watching people do reactions to this song. David was actually classically trained as a cantor, (someone who sings in synagogue) It's amazing where is path led him. I forget if it was Simon or Garfunkle, or maybe both? I'm not sure, but he/they heard David do this song and he/they was so impressed they told him the song was now his. What an amazing tribute! Take care! Happy Holidays!
This man is one of the greats for vocalists, partially because he is metal. Metal doesnt require a great voice, so the fact he has one so special is jawdropping. Ignore the anti-mainstream haters, this man can sing better than 90% of pop singers.
Hey there Cliff (?), I've watched a ton of reaction videos of this song, and I think yours is the first time I've heard a person ask viewers to like Disturbed's video, in addition to their own. You're a real one ❤
This version too will be listened to for the next 40 years plus and will still get a fabulous reaction. A new anthem for 21st century. Love it, what a voice
Disturbed has a song called The Light. It has a beautiful message that I made into a tattoo. I love that they integrate social issues into their music. This rcover grabs my soul.
Best cover of this song. Super emotional. Goosebumps every time I hear it. Pure gold. The original is like a gentle warning to mankind, this one is a call to arms and wake up now. I believe he was classically trained and was a cantor
I'm so happy that you reacted to this video version rather than his Conan O'Brian version. This is SO much more impactful with the visuals of the video.
The first time I heard this I went down to David Draiman rabbit hole. I truly learn never judge a book by its cover. David Draiman is the man among men. I've never had the desire to meet any celebrity. I would absolutely love to shake his hand and thank him for speaking up about mental health. God bless this man.
The Simon and Garfunkel version was soft and beautiful, but this version is my favorite because of the power and how haunting it is. They brought the song to another level.
Bro i have seen this song sung live TWICE at Louder Then Life in louisville, KY and i tear up everytime, i get goose bumps when i hear him sing this song.
So powerful everytime. Always brings me to tears. When he recorded his vocals he wanted to be alone in there and he was exceptional. Apparently even he came out of the booth with tears in his eyes. So much powerful emotion. Wish you the best of luck :) More Nightwish please

I am from northwest Indiana up by lake Michigan so I consider them pretty local myself. Working for a concert venue as an usher in arizona now and seeing this played live was a treat. They did another cover shout 2000 from their original album and would be cool to hear that again.
I grew up with the original from Simon & Garfunkel….but I love this so so much more!!!! Thank you for reacting to this! Always love your reactions! Hope you had a Merry Christmas & have a HAPPY. New Years!!!♥️
for a rock group to have very little drums in this song is odd but the violins and piano in this song are such perfection that it makes the meaning just so much more powerful

Excellent way of putting that! Absolutely! ❤️

Their song Hold Onto the Memories. Amazing song.
Disturbed was brilliant in this cover
