Just found "out" about Daniel Schmachtenberger the other day via Nate Hagens videos and I have now watched three long conversations with Daniel and I am gobsmacked to say the least with the clarity Daniel explains the human predicament - the understanding of history - and why we are here today - but also how it would be possible to solve it the problems we are facing - it is also nice to listen to as it is politically neutral there are no biases but more explanations on why we humans operate the way we are and how social media has made it worse - highly recommended to watch and highly educating
Daniel's ability to weave together a coherent tapestry of ideas, facts, history and philosophy is second to none. He frames these problems as efficiently and accurately as possible. If only he could build a khan academy for crticial analysis and knowledge building suitable across the developmental landscape. A set of curricula suitable for levels of knowledge from 12 year old up to post graduate level. Creation of content would take time but would be achievable. Implementation would be harder. Just a thought...
@@tomj2810 Great summary thank you! I've been following him for some time and more recently the Consilience Project. I've also been making my way through the reading list. I guess I was just thinking of ways to facilitate high school age people and possibly their teachers with access to resources that encourage first principals thinking. Im attempting use knowledge I've gained from his reflections with my 3 year old to develop systems thinking. Also borrowing from Ken Wilbur and others. So much to learn - it's a real privilege to have access to all this knowledge.
@CrashmanNumero1 , When individuals build such institutions, they are usually consumed by a culture created by the social norm. There are too many "normal" individuals for them to continue thinking and working in the way we consider desirable. It would be better for us if he continued to work with small groups and have inspiring conversations. I am sure he does not want to have the depressing conversations he endures. He does so because he knows he is shining the way for us to emerge into a new reality.
The end of the discussion prompted my fallback position. Live below your means, reduce debt if you have it, and never actively seek it. The word used today is minimalism. It frees your mind to contemplate far beyond self.
AWESOME CONVERSTATION. Daniel is just pure wisdom. Took me so many years to get a rough grasp on the world and now suddenly I feel everything is so clearly articulated
@@c3bhm, then I'd suggest you go and watch more of his videos. His delivery is entirely rehearsed, and he repeats the same talking points almost word for word across a dozen videos on a dozen different topics. He presents every problem as a false dilemma, in which there are only two choices, and his delivery is peppered with smart-sounding buzzwords, but he's not actually saying anything profound, nor providing any effective solutions to the problems he says are problems. I'd suggest you get your bullshit meter looked at.
@@Telltaletracks The bookstore is full of shallow self-help philosophy and how-to-think-different books by countless grifters like Schmachtenberger. The question is, why do you need someone else to tell you what or how to think?
@@Telltaletracks I recommend thinking for yourself. People like Schmachtenberger make a living off of manipulating minds by twisting the meanings of words, and burying the listener under an avalanche of bafflegarb that is purposefully designed to make them sound smart and insightful, but is factually shallow and meaningless.
Loved this, thank you all so much for having this conversation and sharing it with us all. I keep asking myself how can we get this message out to a much broader audience as quickly as possible. Once you hear Daniel's logic, the cogency and clarity of his arguments, it's obvious that he's correct and that we need to pivot immediately in The Schmachtenberger direction. We need to convene a Great Council, like freaking yesterday, with Daniel as the Council Chair, and start a Manhattan Project level effort to address The Metacrisis and fix our civilization before it is too late. It may already be too late. Ugh. I just want to scream WAKE UP at like, everybody!!!!
I’d love to have his epilogue statement excised out -about the intrinsic beauty of life being the source of intention and action, and that doing good provides meaning!
Excellent show! Much appreciated! Making sense of the issues is a big step towards applying solutions. Dissecting the culture of consumerism as creating creators of creation. Let’s go team human!!! 💃🏻🦋
Came to a similar conclusion as Daniel a while a go. He obviously got there first but its a relief to hear I'm not the only one thinking on these terms. Especially the three paths he sees as a risk. He's far deeper of a thinker and actually I think this is a limiting factor. It's too high brow and intangible for most. One thing I would ask is address tangable problems, one mentioned is high speed trains/infrastructure. Or even several tangible points in short clips because no one I forward this on to will watch an hour video.
My impression on Daniel is similar to the way people described Von Neumann, in that he seems to be on the upper limit of human intelligence and that I sense he’s far smarter than I can even conceive.
The perfect guest for our times. I really wish a critical mass of people across the globe would become wise. One can hope, right? Although I am still doubtful. Hopeful and doubtful at the same time, now that's a neat trick. The Consilience Project is a wonderful attempt at helping WEIRD people make better choices.
I really like the idea of bolstering cognitive and moral education -but like anything behind the curve, how will these and other tools effectively shift the metacrisis' exponential trajectory?
I was an engineer (anti-spam? Thanks me!). We don't need more "projects." We need an intergenerational program. Everyone knows the difference. Get to work.

Daniel, have you ever asked yourself, or been asked, 'Why do beggars exist?' What's your answer to that? To me it seems beggars exist due to flawed society systems of governance or economic/social structures. What's your view on this, do you think it's possible to resolve it, and if so, how?
Jesus said the poor will always be with us. He didn't say that 99% will be poor. Those without clean water, clean air, and nutritious food are in reality poor no matter how many toys they have.
Thanks for posting this. I am always impressed with the scope and depth of Smachtenberger's knowledge and his ability to speak, but I always walk away from his talks with the same feeling that he could have said everything he did in about 1/10 the amount of words. And, most important of all, he has no concrete or practical solution to propose. I compare this situation to a person who is drowning while his family members are debating about whether or not death by drowning is inevitable. Geez, it would be great to come up with a solution already. If anybody would like to defend his position on my channel, I would love to have you on. In any case, thanks for posting this.
Yeah I feel you on the food. Everyone eats every day for the most part, and current industrial agricultural practices are not extractive and unsustainable.

I can empathize, but in the USA there are help wanted signs all over the place and no people to take them. At least in my community you could easily get two or 3 jobs if you wanted, from industrial to service. Ex: My son's teacher worked a second job as a real estate agent. I worked 2-3 jobs most of my 20s and 30s. In my 50s one job is good enough. Peace and good luck.
I am 40 dollars negative in my bank account right now and rent is coming up. I have no time to think. I can't do this much longer. @j juniper yes I could always get a job at McDonald's for 7.25 per hour in the USA. or the oil rig or in the office. I don't want those jobs. I want UBI so I can give myself time to figure out what I want
@@crowlsyong you maybe disappointed. Originally, UBI was meant to be enough money to thrive. In reality, I fear it’ll be less than needed to survive. It’s being trialled in Wales and the amount is an absolute pittance. Just about pay your rent. As for bills and food...
... Great podcast. Thank you.......... the Chavin culture of South America went longer than any culture without War, 11:00 years. We believe this is mostly because it was a spiritual center for the use of the entheogenic plant, the San Pedro cactus.... so it seems we need to decriminalize all entheogenic plants and fungi, such as peyote, cannabis, magic mushrooms, and ayahuasca.... the closer we get to God, the more peaceful we can be.

There is so much more going on. There are other perceptions of reality that are unlike those who spend time pontificating in California. What about the impact of intolerant religions. For many people, laws are a flimsy invented impediment and not worth looking at seriously, as if the law and freedom and justice and social values we take as hard won, are a joke. Has he read Douglas Murray’s “the strange death of Europe” in which he explains this process and how western governments act in exactly the opposite direction of democracy. It would be helpful to spell out the meaning of democracy.
American culture usual spreads to other parts of the world, I don't know why, but that's what happens. If the movement to greater understanding starts there, it might have a better shot at reaching the world than if it started in Europe or Asia.
Well I think your cultural revolution isn’t going so well….. you can’t tell every American that they are racist or participating in racist systems and are complicit …….
