Jak and Daxter CUSTOM LEVEL! (LLTEST, Luminar Light's Test Level)

  • Finally it is now possible! Actors are kinda hard to add properly, and from what I understand their textures won't work nicely yet.
    This was a fun learning experience for me, since I had zero 3D modelling experience before this (and zero experience with Blender). I made the green thing myself, made that weird rock in the sky as well, and imported a wall segment from Haven City.
    I will definitely keep working on this level in the future, and do some experiments there! More videos about this are definitely coming soon...
    Maybe if I get a bit better at Blender, I will make proper custom levels. I haven't really seen any so far, just imports of levels from other games.

    Okay guys hear me out.
    -Replace Jak & Dax's character models with the ones from Jak 2's intro.
    -Concept and Create new characters, story, (with voice acting etc, assuming the engine can handle audio mods)
    -Incorporate/Remix some narrative ideas from Jak 2 and 3, like Spargus, Mar and light jak.
    -Keep the physics and mechanics the same, and maybe add some depth to the eco system.
    (like maybe being able to stack or mix ecos for different abillities, expanding the combat a bit without adding guns like they did Jak 2)
    Now you have a hypothetical platformer of Jak & Daxter 2. It would be sick if we could make a comment thread of what this concept would look like, maybe get some fan art and concepts to start off.

      mixing eco sounds awesome! blue and yellow eco could be like machinegun fireballs, and blue and red could let you attack faster! maybe yellow and green could let you shoot healing at other players in multiplayer or at some type of object that requires it like how u disperse the green eco on the plants in the precursor basin!
      orrr u could come up with new types of colored eco and design them to have almost a puzzle aspect interaction between them instead of it always being obvious what you need to do when you see eco? idk but either way using mods to make jak 2 and 3 from the alternate timeline where the series didnt turn edgy is AWESOME and if we are making this a real project i definitely want in

      @@BassRemedy Sounds awesome! I like the puzzle idea and the yellow eco stacks. OpenGoal is shaping up to be a solid foundation for mods.

      In terms of story. I always thought it would be cool if the red sage sends you into a new area to find the red eco cap since you did the yellow and blue ones. Then as you explore forests and caves you meet nice lurkers that explain that Gol and Maia used dark eco to the corrupt other lurkers and they need your help to break the dark spell Maia used.

    Will you make a tutorial how to make a custom level? Excellent job! I’ve been wanting to learn how to make custom levels

      I am confident that the custom level system will still change significantly. Once I feel like it is more fleshed out, I may make a tutorial. Until then it would be a bit pointless - because the tutorial would quickly become obsolete.

    Was collision interpreted automatically by the engine or did you manually have to add it?

      It is not interpreted automatically by the game. The custom level tools generate it automatically. Right now everything is either ground, or wall. You can configure at which angle something should be considered a wall, and the tools will generate the collision based on this.

    I don't know if it's the right place to ask, but I have a problem with setting up OpenGOAL. When I drag the ISO file (at first I tried the PAL I had already on my PC, then I tried again with the NTSC version) onto the extractor, it opens the prompt at first but it abruptly closes after a couple seconds.
    Many people have the same issue, and others youtubers said it's due to the CPU not supporting AVX. I checked and my processor supports AVX, I even tried to force-enabling the AVX setting with the command prompt, but to no avail

      I am just a user of OpenGOAL. Best place to ask is probably the official Discord server of the project.
      The project is very WIP, despite what the low-effort news sites are claiming. That is why there are still issues.

    Do you think that opengoal could work with nvidia remix to create upscaling textures and Ray Tracing inside of jak and daxter games ?

      The way it works right now, is that if you add a custom level properly, it will be in the debug menu as well.

      OpenGOAL does not, and can not contain official assets. But I made a modification of OpenGOAL, that is able to load this level, if you provide the file. The problem is that the owner of the build that has Yosemite has not released the build yet.
