The Stalker was actually the first variant of the Avenger series, and was my first pledge. The original idea was that you'd be able to swap out the bounty pods for a naked cargo bay instead. When the Titan came out, I found it a little bit frustrating that there was no 'downgrade' or sidegrade path to the Titan, as the cargo-carrying capability was and is of greater value due to the bounty capture mechanics not being fully in place. Ended up moving to the Cutty eventually, primarily for the cargo space, and it has remained my daily driver ever since.
It's one of the reasons I focus on how ships actually behave in game, there are lots of 'concept' ideas that sound great, but until they're in the game it's moot
@@Farrister Indeed, and we appreciate your reviews because of that :) My Avenger pledge was way back in the day, before any of us knew how anything would materially shake out, and before the PU existed, so it was predicated more on just providing funding and getting access to the project back then.
I still have my Stalker as my only ship for the same reason. It always seemed ironic how unrealistic it was to not be able to remove some simple pods in a space sim that is trying to be realistic. Maybe when they make the sim actually more realistic I might come back. Until then I got plenty of other sims and games to keep me entertained.
i still have my stalker pledge, and luckily i can always exchange it for $75 in store credit, which is the same cost as the stalker avenger pledge, although coming with 1000 less in game credit, thats not a big deal as we will earn that 1000 credit back fairly quickly. I am keeping the stalker though, because the bounty hunter concept is something i am waiting on, but its nice to know I can always exchange it if I wanted, but the fact there is no stalker package pledge anymore I am just keeping it for now
The top speed is the game changer for the Stalker. Few ships are faster. So pirates and BH’s would want this. And Maybe someday the containers will have purpose? It’s a great ship for jumping to bunkers and bounties.
@@Farrister if people were to be conducting a bit of space banditry or pursuing someone it makes a difference. Though that’s a niche group. However those of us doing PVE bounties and the target is 100’s of km’s from a qt point, it also makes a difference. Maybe just a few seconds, but it is a difference.
That video took me back... the Avenger (back when there was only one) was my first pledge ship. I just can't unsee how the entire ship is essentially hollow and the main thrusters seem to be glued to the hull just above the rear ramp without being connected to anything resembling an engine inside.
Your reviews are awesome! Minor suggestion; kitchen on a ship is a "galley". Eating area is "the mess" or "mess hall". Bathroom is "head" but I think that is much less used for space ships. It just seems a little discontinuous that terms like "deck", "port", "starboard", "quarters", etc. are used but not "galley" or "mess hall".
It's a great suggestion! Sadly I don't have a naval background, so am trying to incorporate more terminology as I learn it. Hopefully you'll see that improve as time goes along!
I e been playing for 3 years and I’ve never flown any ship from the avenger series, but if I could go back, I would make this my starter ship. The cockpit placement always threw me off. Awesome video✌️
I like all the Avenger's they are just a fun ship and usually my fast go to ship to claim and go to another station. It can be claimed under a minuet without paying expedite charges. Good review Farrister have a great weekend. o7 😎👍
Greetings again Farrister. This was a very nice review of the Avenger Stalker. Personally, I'm a fan of the Avenger series of ships. I have 2 versions of the Titan. I owned the Stalker for a while but because I wanted to run cargo, I chose to trade it in for a Titan. I love the ships, and have never complained. Eventually, the Stalker will have a function in game as Bounty Hunting will be a skill eventually. For starter ships the Avengers are perfect, and I always recommend them for new players looking to upgrade from the Aurora MR or Mustang Alpha. I know they can start with it, but not everyone can afford $70+ to start out with a game they've never played. Take care my friend, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse. Oh, and to the new players that may read this. Don't let the Avengers nicknames fool you. It is not a pregnant guppy or a penguin. It's a darn fine ship to start out.
@@Farrister Yes there is the base Titan that is black and white and there is the Titan Renegade that has a different loadout and is painted blue and yellow. It was a special deal for a limited time when it originally came out. They had several ships during that release. The Titan Renegade, Hornet Wildfire, the Gladius Valiant, and the Sabre Comet. All had different paints and loadouts. It was CIG's first examples of new paints that would eventually be available. Now they can all be purchased when they have those big sales. They just don't have the LTI that the first releases had. Of those ships I listed, I have the Renegade and the Valiant. I also have their base versions too.
I have the Titan, not as my Starter Pledge, that honour went to the Aurora MR. But as one of my in-game purchases, along with the Pisces, and I do use it fairly frequently for box missions. Pisces is my general runabout between missions when I want to just chill and do nothing much.
Just a note, CIG has reiterated over time that the Avenger is still intended to be a "modular ship" a la the Vanguard, Retaliator, and the new Galaxy. So no matter which variant you get, the modules for the other two should be available at a later point in time. With that in mind the Stalker can be a better long-term investment as you'll have the better components and much better engine of the Stalker while being able to run a Titan cargo configuration once modularity comes online.
Decided to melt my Taurus to have a practical ship (box missions 1scu boxes) so I went with the Stalker and one fighter I went with the Ghost for it's firepower and versatility
@@Farrister I hope one day we will get either a bonus or specific missions to bring bounty contracts alive. We could do so from bunker missions. From space combat bounties, we could target their engines, immobilise them and hail them to surrender. Or board their ship and use a stun weapon. It'd be so fun! Thanks for replying by the way.
@@KodieCollingsGaming the only balance is probably for player bounties to avoid a player sitting looking at a cage all day lol, but they've talked about that before :D
@@Farrister true. If they were to implement it with players, they would have to put a timer for the player to return them to a prison. Because you can guarantee, Bounty Hunter players would just take them around the verse all day for a laugh. If done properly, it could be a very fun game loop. Especially for roleplay communities.
I have this one as my starter ship. I got it like 5 years ago because the titan wasn’t available. I hate that the pods are a huge waste of space. This is really only good as a shuttle for landing and doing bunker missions. Should be a hard pass until the pods aren’t just pissing you off not doing anything.
Until stealth gets it's newer iteration and the bounty hunter pods get some gameplay, the Titan remains the better choice, sadly. Soon(tm) perhaps? Nevertheless, thank you for yet another informative and entertaining ship review. o7
I feel like the Mustang is kinda the definitive starter for anyone not interested in mining now. It’s such a good fighter, easily able to handle VHRT chaining, and now has amble cargo space all with a tiny reclaim timer.
As always great video Farister! I'd recommend the Palisade shield for PvE due to ballistic protection and the Atlas for better QT range (speed is very close, but the range is vastly superior).
@@Farrister it probably won't come into play that often but it might make the ship a nice high value cargo runner being able to run from engagements with pirates or police.
Speaking about size 1 shields - the best shield is Palisade. It has better defense against ballistic damage, than FR. Size 2 and bigger - yes, FR series are the best.
Yeah the avengers are nice ships for sure, but man do they need a gold pass. To get the bounty honey pods up and running, it would be cool if they would have prisoner transfer missions. basically go to point a get cargo, go to point B drop off cargo, but only available to people currently piloting a ship with prisoner pods.
So I think what happened with the Stalker to give it the higher price is the same as when you try to buy the Origin 325a and notice that the price goes up according to the base components you're starting off with. You're basically paying for the guns and starting components of the Stalker. Comparing the two in Erkul.Games, the Stalker is slightly faster, but the Titan's got a better turn rate.
I prefer the warlock. The washing machine in the back of the warlock is more useful than the 6 chinese-hotel-rooms in the back of the stalker. Sadly the Titan is slower than the both variants.
Although I really do think the Avenger Titan is a GOOD ship, I also kind of think it's one of the most overrated ones in the game -- and the Stalker is part of the reason why. When most folks think of the Titan as a great starter, it's because of the combat ability first, with box and FPS missions being secondary, and cargo hauling a distant third, if at all. Box and FPS missions are more or less the same in the Stalker as the Titan, with the minor limitation of not being able to fit a Greycat PTV or other small land vehicle for approaches, while the advantage of top speed plays heavily in its favor in dogfights. In essence, the Stalker is better at what the Titan does best, and ignores what the Titan does worst, and is a very easy and cheap upgrade. And let's be honest, if you're that far into Star Citizen and thinking of spending a little more money, chances are you're going to upgrade your Avenger Titan to something else without thinking twice. That being said, I do own an Avenger Titan, and I DON'T own a Stalker. So I'm pretty sure I've just disproven my own opinion, haha.
Telling ppl to use a Spectre QD... come on man, you won't even make it from Crusader to Hurston with that one, I don't think. The default one, Expedition is pretty good, the only better option would be Voyage
Can you imagine being crammed into one of those pods? If it does become a functional dynamic I can't imagine how it would work for players. I would log out if crammed into a small box. Immersion has it's limits.
That 1300+ straight line speed makes that wandering to the next point a little easier than on a Titan. She makes an excellent little box runner.
For sure!
