I've just bought the warlock after having a vanguard sentinel with the emp and it's a beast and the best thing for someone who grinds 890s you can open the canopy and use it as a pretty decent sniping platform
Pretty damn good. It has great handling and an Attrition 4 & 3 combo does good damage, especially after you softened your target with the missiles. The biggest weakness is against enemy missiles, since a direct hit can either seriously damage the Avenger or just blow you up instantly. Is it a combat ship? No. Can it bite back? Most definitely.
Out of all the ships I've owned, the Titan is the one I keep coming back to. The only thing I think it's missing is a bathroom for whenever those become necessary. If it had that, it would be basically perfect as a ship.
I personally believe that's what one of the slide-up doors you pass just before entering the cockpit will contain. The other, perhaps armour and/or gun rack
That's what the cargo hatch is for. I got a question about this ship. I can't access most multi function displays because things like "Turn on engine" or "Exit ship" block it. Do you know how to turn that off?
your ship reviews are one of the most lovely things on UA-cam. I'm afraid what I am going to watch when I watch all of your reviews (I am halfway there). Thank you, sir.
I like it. Still have yet to advance much in the game, but upgraded to this from a mustang and definitely enjoy it better. She has the jack of all trades appeal and is forgiving to fly, and can pack a surprising punch against other smaller ships.
I really loved the Avenger before its rework, and now even more so. For quite some time, it's been the best bang for the buck in game, and I think it still is.
Newbie here. How exactly had it been reworked compare to the video? Only the UI or was any of the negative points mentionned on the video been improved? I'm still looking at starter packs and so far it's this one that caught my attention.
Great video - once again. Appreciate all you do. For the price point and what it offers, I know the Penguin is considered by many to be the one and only "true" starter due to its offerings and usefulness. I prefer the 300i series, 315p specifically, as I am not focused on combat but did have an Avenger Titan for quite awhile - solid ship for combat, courier, light freight mission plus the bed for logoff option.
Avenger is a good ship. Really what a starter ship SHOULD be. It's like your first car, might not be the hottest thing on the road, but it sure beats that second hand bicycle that are the Aurora or Mustang. That said, I prefer the 325A.
@@Farrister when I first got the 325, it was the old style, and it's afterburn speed was 1315. So comparing it to the Arrow and Gladius, it was faster than both of those ships, had a size 4 gun, which they didn't, an interior, with bed, and a little cargo space. All for $5 less than the Arrow, and $20 less than the Gladius. With the rework, it lost some speed, got more cargo, and it's and even prettier ship. But as to why i like it better than the Titan. At this point of the game, I'd have to say speed and looks.. At This point 4 SCU or 8 SCU is pretty irrelevant. Though any cargo vs no cargo is a big difference. We will have to see how it flys in 3.10. But it's always had very good roll.
@@Farrister I find the 325A and Titan to be very similar, but the Titan will forever be my favourite ship in the game. The 300-series has one of, if not even THE, best looking interior and it's extremely nice and smooth to fly but I'm not a fan of the ladder-only entry. The Titan has the advantage of the ramp and big internal space for a car or hover bike (or lots of bodies to bring along and loot later). It also fits perfectly in the 890j hangar. The Titan also has the massive advantage of just 47 seconds claim time, while the 325A has several minutes. Wherever you go, you can always trust the Titan for a quick escape!
Depending on how much you're willing to spend, and what sort of thing you'd like to get into, I'd look at the Prospector, Freelancer MAX, Cutlass or maybe even Constellation Taurus
OK! I finally signed up with Star Citizen and pledged with the Titan pkg. Farrister, you mentioned that you thought that the Quantum drive is slow. While that is true it should be noted that faster Quantum Drives have SHORTER max distances. Only the Atlas has a little bit faster speed with a little bit farther max distance. Everything else (Quantum Drives) is a trade-off of speed or distance; you don't get both. Thanks for an outstanding video on the New Player's Guide!
Still my fav ship. Easy spawn/launch, packs a punch, quick to fly... its like a T43 in space. Highly recommend upgrading to this if you have an Aurora/starter ship.
I traded my titan for a cutlass, not because I didn’t like the avenger, matter of fact, I liked it more. I just got sick of looking at the ship after two whole years of full commitment to the ship, I was desperate for a even minor change of scenery.
It's a front runner in combat, an ambush ship. If you are ahead in combat, and a good pilot, it's a good ship. But it really has wet toilet paper for shields, if you start getting hit, just run, live to fight another day, this ship is not going to last long once the pain starts.
@@Farrister I love the cutlass when I first started out but now I am a consiege I use the Avenger as my transport ship for my 890J. I will swap it out for two Razors when I bring friends along as I am able to squeeze them both out. The 890j is great when it comes to being a carrier. A strategy we use is to have our avanger or razors attack and try to drive people to the 890. Only down side is theres very few refueling points. Cant economically fly in atmosphere so that makes grimhex the only proper place to refuel.
If I was a fan of the avengers, I might enjoy this. It feels about 900 years behind in tech. I’ll stick with my 325a. I enjoy basic comforts and flying a spaceship that actually feels somewhat futuristic.
what do you think of the avenger's current capabilities vs the policing / bounty hunting ship it was originally pitched as? of course they can do numbers tweaks for shields, etc. but what about the physical design? i dont see them changing much for the model...
It's OK - the challenge is that you would need your target to be a much worse player, or in a very non-criminal ship like an Aurora. I think Avenger would struggle against a Cutlass or Caterpillar, for example.
Found your reviews not long ago, so I'm visiting the backlog -- and I have this to say about the Avenger: It's the best darn little ship you'll upgrade into something else after a week. The main drawback to the penguin is that after you've experienced the thrill of its versatility, you're almost immediately going to feel its limitations, no matter what path you choose to follow. As you summarized, everyone's going to have fond memories of it, because it's a good performer with tons of personality, but the fact that folks outgrow it so quickly is why I consider it one of the most over-rated ships in Star Citizen.
It depends, I think for somebody with a set budget for Star Citizen who doesn't want to spend real money to upgrade, it's a really solid choice for game package
I can agree there, especially for someone who very much doesn't want to buy in for more than a normal game's cost -- in that case, the Avenger is a decent choice. However, they'll still feel those limitations almost immediately, particularly the earning ceiling for a non-combat player. It may be with in-game currency, but they'll be moving on nonetheless. However, in-game currency isn't really a roadblock right now, with hand-mining having good promise, and chains of quantum-sensitive missions (filling up the cargo bay along the way) offering a very relaxing way to earn decent money.
@@Farrister That's great man, the org still active at all? I remember hanging out on the USC forums back in the day but it looks like they've been taken down? Is USC still active?
Yeah I'm liking the size 1 shield generators less and less. But yeah, good feedback - in my next videos I will try to showcase some of the other options on those hardpoints, thanks!
Don't...Honestly the Avenger is not the ship it once was in the beginning. Fatter, slower and under armed. Its no longer a bounty hunter combat ship. Yes, you can. There are two that are purchasable at any major city: the olive green and the splinter (green camouflage). The other paints are from events and such.
I feel that your combat performance assessment is misleading. Yes, the 2 S2 and 1 S3 feel somewhat forgettable. But you get the heaviest shooter in its weight-class (ignoring the Talon) when you switch out the nose gun with an S4 Revenant gatling gun. Your enemy expects weak ballistic impacts but gets shredded in seconds, instead. Besides the huge damage (which rivals dedicated fighters) you can easily duck and run - if you WANT to get away in an Avenger, you definitely WILL get away unscathed due to its high speed :D
The depiction of spacecraft maneuvering within Earth's atmosphere doesn't align with realistic physics, as I perceive it. Turning a large spacecraft as if it were a paper seems physically implausible. Such a sizable ship wouldn't behave in such a manner. It raises the question of whether the physics involved are accurately modeled or if there are limitations in the current modeling system.
It's not modelled fully in that sense, the ships aren't travelling at orbital speeds, even for the smaller planets than the size of our own. I think that's a conscious decision to make what is already a complicated game a bit more accessible
@@Farrister While they could have the option to emulate the realism seen in Digital Combat Simulator (DCS), or at least adopt a flight model in the atmosphere that resembles it, the current portrayal diminishes immersion. Watching ships fly as if they were 10-gram paper planes takes away significantly from the overall immersion.
