You can tell the ship builder team is getting really, really good at building ships. This looks like they banged this out in a couple weeks and created a masterpiece.

It feels like the kind of sci-fi industrial ship that I'd expect to see in something like the Alien universe, like it would have a huge "Weyland-Yutani" decal on the side. Really like it.

There is a reason drake and Argo are my favorite ships. They seem more realistic when it comes to ships that could be for the average person if we had space travel today. utilitarian and rugged and I just cant get enough of it.
wait wait wait! Yes, the MULE fits perfectly! Granted, you have to be a bit careful when driving in but it fits without moving. Only trick being: you have to drive in forwards so you can leave the vehicle and still access the cockpit. From there you can close the ramp through the "close exteriors" button. ;) Also you can park the PTV and the STV (backwards) on the ramp so you don't lose the ability to transport your 4 SCU of cargo. ;)
I mean, it’s absurdly tight and isn’t really practical. Far better would be CIG adding a ladder and cockpit direct access so the rear could be truly and fully utilised for cargo or vehicles.

I’m glad someone posted this. The MULE fits perfectly. You drive it in forward and then drive it out when you land. Works like a charm. Looks great too!! A ladder would be nice in a future variant but this works great and as someone who mainly does delivery and bunkers this is my ship and the mule works perfectly for that!

I chose the Nomad 2 years I go if I remember right. It was my first ship. I think I saw a video about it on your channel. I imedietly knew, that this ship is for me. Fly around with my caravan, beeing able to just live where I want. Very nice interior, the awesome design, like a stealth bomber, the hover landing gear, enaugh place, to get cargo on board, even a vehicle fits on, as far as I know, the mining vehicle... I love it until today. Its one of my favourite ships! I would never choose any startingship over it!
I love how popular the Cutter has become. The Titan has plenty of room for Cargo from all the Drake Cutter's you will be able to murder and loot with it.

I don't play Star Citizen but my wife and I love watching your videos just because we both love the concept of space travel and your reviews give a great view on how it could be through the game. Keep up the great work!
It should be noted that the current IAE sale package for the Cutter comes with Lifetime insurance…..so even if you wanted a Avenger, it still would be better to purchase the Cutter and then upgrade to the Avenger later.

The nicest looking brick so far. Nothing can compete with Nomad as an all-rounder yet. But... we shall see about that when/if Pyro will come online though.
Don't forget the Nomads open Cargo Bay. In future it will be easy to steal cargo from the Nomad. Already saw a Video of someone looting the ROC which was parked on a Nomad.
@@timeflex Yeah, right. It's always the question what you're focus is. If you like ROC Mining and sometimes do other things the Nomad is the best ship for this. If you're more into combat and sometimes want's to do a delivery or bunker missions the Warlock is a better option.
Looks fantastic. Like the moving cooling fan in the cockpit. CIG is always upping their game. Hope you do an Architect Reviews on the Corsair (you're probably working on it right now lol)
I've wanted to start in this ship for 7 years, the Mustang Alpha always felt too premium for a starter. My first ship has gotta be a rust bucket who's lights and engines flicker on and everything groans in struggle. This thing is PERFECT. I love how the lights spool up in temperature and flicker on, the engines burr and growl on, the ramp metal groans as it deploys. CIG nailed the feeling I was hoping for. Now to have this ship in the size of the Firefly... A perfect upgrade path.
There's just something so charming about the Cutter. I don't need a starter ship at all, but between the looks, and those switches and buttons, I just had to get one. Flying it around feels kind of like my dad gave me his old truck. It may never perform best in class, but I'm going to enjoy putting the best components in it that it can take, and taking it around the verse.
I think the whole concept of 'starter ships' is a flawed one. Every ship should have its useful place in the game and not just be a 'stepping stone'. The Cutter is your typical mail/package delivery vehicle ... small, efficient, easy to maintain. Sure, it has a small cargo capacity, but it fits its niche nicely. At the moment, large ships do everything better and have not that much downsides (f.e. the higher fuel consumption is mitigated by a higher cargo capacity). Maybe they add some more downsides that depend on the scale of the ship: very limited number of landing pads for large ships, landing fees that raise exponentially with ship size, restricted area access for certain ship classes (your mailman doesn't deliver your order with an APC). The game would profit from a break with the "bigger is always better" dogma.
After the release hype wears down the Titan still seems like a better ship, it has much better weapons and 2 entrances when the cargo is full. The Cutter only has 2xS2 hardpoints which is still worse than a Mustang in firepower. If you're only doing light cargo and delivery missions then the Cutter is good, but I also thought the same thing about the Pisces. If you want to throw in combat and bounty hunting then I say the Titan is still a must.
I've taken a long break from this game and I'm not understanding what people like about the cutter. It doesn't particularly have anything another started doesn't have. Are people still weirdly obsessed with toilets? Once the Auroras and Mustangs are updated to the same level of functionality they will be much more competent ships.
While none of that's wrong, I think it'll become a lot stronger once more mechanics come online. Once inventory is fully physicalized, stuff like that personal storage locker will become a lot more important, as ships won't have the magic inventory you can access anywhere on the ship, and you'll probably need to use storage boxes in your cargo space for ships that don't have any. Additionally, once Pyro, and later exploration gameplay loops, come online the value of a massive fuel tank, space for a ground vehicle, and a full hab space will go up quite a bit. Though that fuel tank is actually a pretty big deal right now. I think that makes it the best shuttle ship, since you can slap the fastest QT drive on it and not worry about being unable to reach anywhere. The only competition is maybe the Pisces, which trades fuel size for being able to spawn from ground vehicle terminals, meaning you essentially always have one within reach. Being able to fit a ground vehicle isn't nothing either, as they're a lot of fun to use, but are pretty limited by the fun spots to use them generally being far from where you can spawn them. There's also something to be said about just not being cramped, because the Aurora, the Mustang, and even the Titan are some very cramped spaces.
Very good review, thanks! I like how you covered Drake's customary rough-around-the-edges vibe. But you missed how the external headlight flickers a bit before it comes on or goes off. That's some really interesting detail along with the spot-welding marks. I agree - the modelers really stepped it up with this one.
I purchased the cutter and love it. The range is what sold me the most, but I also love the working storage locker. My fav little quirk is the lever that actually moves for deploying and retracting the landing gear.
You *CAN* technically jam a roc in the cutter. You need to drive it in forward so you can get out into the ship. It sticks out the end but it stays even into quantum. You can’t reach the ramp panel on foot so you have to bind the open-close door keybind. When it closes the back wheels will clip into the ramp but it goes back to normal when opened. Even if you don’t want to tempt the space kraken you can just leave the door open and pick up a roc at an outpost and fly it around in atmo. This technically makes the cutter the only starter ship with the ability to carry a roc second only to the $90 nomad.
I can't shake off the feeling that it was somehow influenced by the Starfield video. It is, of course, just an illusion. The same applies to Vulture. ;-)
The Cutter seems to actually be what the people running the Pisces as a starter wanted it to be. I love the Pisces as an auxiliary craft, but it really needs its parent ship. No bed or other amenities necessary for extended range and endurance.
My cutter always makes me smile. In college I had short wheelbase chevy van that was originally used as a service vehicle. My cutter reminds me of it alot. I wish I could decorate it. I would put up NIN, Fugazi and tool posters and then toss in a black light.
I like the idea of the secondary forward engines. This way even if one of the main engines is shot off or damaged the torque imbalance/spin can be avoided simply by going to vtol and sacrificing top speed. Great little ship.
I don't know how many more times I'm going to comment this but I LOVE YOUR CONTENT. I don't even "play" SC anymore but your videos are so good that I can't stop watching. I LOVE the cutter! It looks like its made entriely from repurposed asbestos! It looks like the engines should choke and putter, and realease a thick black plume of exhaust! It looks like the kind of ship your gran would use when going grocery shopping! The cutter is perfect!
I love how this is the new ship you get after doing the tutorial! It’s such a quirky little thing! Flew it back after losing landing gear, a thruster and was heavily damaged. Somehow she made it back to a hangar 😂
The major advantage of the Cutter starting from 3.19 is the weapon rack which can hold 2 pistols or utility weapons, 1 rifle and 1 huge weapon like railgun, so anytime you blow up for some reason, you have all these weapon on the ship
I want to see if any of these attributes are adjusted as the game progresses. CIG has a documented history of making new ships incredibly tough/fast/borderline-OP and then walking them back or nerfing things on them in the future. That being said, I do love this little ship.
@Logan Wolfram for barely anything. The hydrogen and quantum stores are a mistake as that would mean it carries more fuel than the corsair. It has a slower speed, harder to turn, less hull hp, less shield hp, same or less cargo, a reduced electromagnetic signature but huge IR glow. What you do get is a ramp slightly wider so you can fit some more smaller vehicles in it over the nomad and the titan.
@@asymsolutions sure, but the Nomad and Titan both cost more. This is the cheapeat possible version of the Nomad-Titan ship type. I think that's enough of a niche. But if anything, Titans are probably a bit too good all arounders right now, and Auroras are too strong in combat for $45 starters. Perhaps physicalized damage and systems gameplay will bring better balance. It is kinda neat and all that cheap ships are good, but personally I think I'll enjoy the game more if there's a long progression of ship value to move up over time.
With several ships at my disposal, I definitely didn't need the cutter but I had to pick it up anyways. It's surely going to be my new a to b driver. Fun to fly, plenty of space, really fleshed out. Great ship and great video
The Cutter launch is extremely successful in design and execution. It definitely has the Drake flavor throughout, it has practical and imaginative ways to utilize it, and it has a distinct advantage against other designs and compliments the Drake fleet perfectly. Well done CIG.
The thing I like about this ship as a starter that I think most miss is it's resemblance to another starter ship in a little game called Privateer so many years ago. The guns even mount in the same place if I remember correctly. That ship was a flying brick just like this one. Very similar in size and functionality as well. Very fond memories of that game and this ship is a reminder every time I see it.
My very first ship/ game package was actually the freelancer. Stand alone ship was gladius. Ground vehicle was the dragonfly. My dream ships (sub cap) a2 for sure. The F8 and Sabre as well.

personnaly i think the best thing about the cutter is his quantum capacity, with is 8000 of quantum fuel you will be able to travel to bigger system like pyro in the future or swap to a VK-00 and travel very fast in a single system and that is really a game changer since the cutter is the only starter with that mucth travel capacity
This is the closest I have yet seen to a Star Citizen analog to the old Tarsus from Wing Commander: Privateer. It is like the Tarsus and the Cutlass had a love child, I love it. The cockpit glass, the slope of the flat nose, the old school monitors with the keyboard, the gun placement, they all scream Tarsus. The Aurora used to be the Tarsus analog, but it never had the proper cluttery rust bucket aesthetic. ;)
I was really surprised when they said that this would be a Drake ship with high armor but minimal guns. It went against my ideas on what a Drake ship should be. I do love the ship though. The fact it has so much hull health is really nice especially for a starter ship. I think it will become my main hop-around ship. I just love the Drake interior style so much.
PRO Move: Buy the warbond cutter with game package for $45 and the CCU to Titan adding $10. You'll end up with an Avenger Titan with LTI and game package for $55

@@paranikumarlpk So you want to buy the Cutter Pack (the 45$ IAE one with Cutter + Game + LTI) and upgrade the Cutter from that Pack to a Titan? Yeah you can do that. All you need to do is buy an Upgrade (CCU) from a Cutter to a Titan. You only need to pay the 10$ diffrence + Tax (unless you use store credit then no tax). You keep your gamepackage. No need to melt anything. Or do you already own a diffrent Starterpack and want to melt that to then buy the Cutter Pack?
The loveable penguin definitely got some competition, it's much more fleshed out for today's gameplay where the Avenger started to lean toward vehicle combat in it's multirole function.

The misc reliant is still my favourite. It cant do anything all that well but it looks cool, it has the best visibility hands down and it feels very nice to fly
I love this thing. It's humble, unassuming. Feels like a cargo hauler that's been repurposed by a mercenary to keep their equipment, and just something cheap and reliable to take them from A to B. Could probably pass under the radar of most authorities, too. Almost like the Razorcrest. Gotta say though - coming from Elite, naming _this_ tiny piece of junk the "Cutter" is way more amusing to me than it should be lol
The sound design of the Cutter is also great, I flew both Cutter and Avenger Titan and the last one does not give the same cool feedback of your actions. Like when you start the engines, accelarate and so on. It gives a better feeling for the ship.
looking through the starter packs, I saw this ship and instantly fell in love with it! If I were to get into Star Citizen, this is the ship I would get!

And I agree, I'm REALLY not a fan of the way the Cutter looks but...can't deny, it really is an incredibly detailed and well rounded design and will likely be my suggested starter for any person looking to first get into Star Citizen. I do have one complaint about this video though. In the final shot with all the best starter ships, you included everything but my beloved 300i, which I certainly see as a good contender to the Titan. Made me very sad.😥
The Mule does fit in the Cutter! If you park face first you have just enough room to exit the Mule and go through the door inside. you have to park with the back tires as close to the back door as possible, but it fits and you can get out and fly the ship.
I got cutter, i like the aesthetic of it over the sleek design of others. In my mind its kinda like home built pc vs apple as far as looks go. One thing I will note is that you can rent the avenger and many space ports and cities. So if I want to spend a day doing ship combat I can spend 15k aUEC and get that fix whenever I want.
It's a van with a living space - it's the perfect non-combat starter and I've started a 'hard mode' on my second account where all I have is a cutter and a Mule to go earn my way to other careers. Fun fact, some of the empty modules for components are perfect for holding boxes like the one in the cockpit which is a nice touch xD
Hey Morph, enjoyable video as usual. Though I have a couple minor corrections for you. Firstly, the Mule fits perfectly fine if you drive it in with the drivers seat facing the forward wall. It does obstruct the pilot from exiting the cutter without also moving the Mule though. Secondly, I recall seeing a CIG employee mention that the quantum fuel capacity was an error, and it'll be lowered to be more in line with the other starters in a future patch.
I've flown all the "starter" ships. Loved my Titan. Loved the Nomad. The others were fine. Owned a 600i and Warden combo for a long time. 3 flavors of Connies were last years loves. Bought and melted my MSR more times than I can count. But the Cutter. The Cutter is my endgame ship. It is my space VW bus. Back my STV in it off to the left back corner so I can walk around it to get in and out of the ship and just wander. Love it. Got it and a Corsair and hardly fly the Corsair even though I do love it too. My other few ships are just place holders at this point if I need to scratch a combat or racing itch.
Avenger holds 8 SCU of cargo not 6. I am also assuming the $60 price will be the price of the game package after IAE but the ship value will remain at $45.
The shape and black and yellow paint job remind me of a school bus. Which is fine with me as I often drive a school bus as well as the highway coaches.
Honestly, people might prefer the sleek design style, but this 90s Matrix control panel and the essentialist layout of everything is beautiful. It's 'techy' in the best kind of way. I'm always more interested in a ship when I can go "hey, I wonder what that pipe is for".
I kinda see the Cutter as a "front of a railway engine welded onto half of a cargo container with engines strapped onto it" kinda thing myself. (As for Drake ships not being "tanky", the hull HP on this ship is really high and since it does not have a lot of bits and bobs - like wings and stuff - the damage model will make it quite resillient I think). Great little ship IMO. Bonus - I have tested it and the NOX will fit beside the 4 SCU of cargo without clipping, giving enough room to dismount, close the ramp and access the forward part of the ship interior. I did not however test if the SCU is accessible if the NOX is already in the hold because of server stability, but I plan to. Cheers! In elite dangerous the cutter is the best of the best "you've made it" endgame ship. In Star Citizen it's the rustic starter pack. What they have in common: both are flying bricks. One by the looks, the other by the handling.
I came back to Star Citizen because of this ship and it's price, the value alone makes it worth it for something to get started and explore the universe in. However the more I used it I found myself really loving the vibe (technical term) of the little ship, it feels like the "Van life" kind of thing, something you could actually live in. I know it sounds weird but one thing that bothered me about the Titan was the fact it had a bed but no toilet, which is really odd. The only thing I would love to see is the addition of a hatch somewhere up front, it would make sense as an emergency escape hatch or for a secondary entry if the cargo bay is full. You could put it in the roof like on a military vehicle, climbing on top to get in is rather common. Lastly for the whole Star Citizen game I would love to see customizable ship interiors, it's a bit out of place for the shelves and gun racks to be bare all the time.
Me, a player who’s just getting into the game thanks to free fly, and who has an interest in everything _except_ ship to ship combat, thinking about what ship to buy. I think I’ll become good friends with the cutter. It looks a bit like a brick shaped battery but I’ve always been function over form, and there is a charm to the rustic and basic design philosophy
I bought the Avenger as a starter pack and then purchased the Cutter when it was released...The Cutter is good, very good, for general duties and well designed. It's slower than the Titan, much less manoeuvrable and doesn't have close to the firepower. The one thing it does have is range, the cutter can take you nearly anywhere in Stanton, twice, without a single refuel. but if they nerf the fuel load which has been predicted, I would choose the avenger and find myself again and again taking the avenger anyway for convenience in case I need the speed and firepower. If you want to be left alone, take the cutter as people probably think your new and broke and not worth the ammo cost to destroy or time to pirate.
Few folks are talking about how it reminds them of the Razor Back from the Mandalorian, but it's not just similar it's basically the same ship brought to star citizen. Same segmented inside, same outside look, similar piloting area just more room.
This is the comparison and contrast I needed to hear. I've watched many UA-cam vids endorsing either ship, but, I like the reasons you've provided for and against both. Most players were endorsing the Titan over the Cutter, but, yourself and one other streamer strongly endorsed the Cutter, and I can see why. I've seen people shove the roc face first and close the door on the pilot seat and qt with it without blowing up.

Nomad is a damn good ship I don't consider it a starter because of the price but for those who want to spend a little bit more a definate recommend

I don't play Star Citizen but my wife and I love watching your videos just because we both love the concept of space travel and your reviews give a great view on how it could be through the game. Keep up the great work!
It should be noted that the current IAE sale package for the Cutter comes with Lifetime insurance…..so even if you wanted a Avenger, it still would be better to purchase the Cutter and then upgrade to the Avenger later.
Cutter is nice but Titan is still King of starters in my eyes.

Titan has the guns, but damn it's hard to control in atmospere. Either can work out. Plus two entrances is something.

The nicest looking brick so far. Nothing can compete with Nomad as an all-rounder yet. But... we shall see about that when/if Pyro will come online though.
Don't forget the Nomads open Cargo Bay. In future it will be easy to steal cargo from the Nomad. Already saw a Video of someone looting the ROC which was parked on a Nomad.

It's always the question what you're focus is. If you like ROC Mining and sometimes do other things the Nomad is the best ship for this. If you're more into combat and sometimes want's to do a delivery or bunker missions the Warlock is a better option.
I love this ship, it's incredibly endearing, and reminds me of the sort of flying bus-type ships that were common in 80s and 90s cartoons.
Looks fantastic. Like the moving cooling fan in the cockpit. CIG is always upping their game. Hope you do an Architect Reviews on the Corsair (you're probably working on it right now lol)
I've wanted to start in this ship for 7 years, the Mustang Alpha always felt too premium for a starter.
My first ship has gotta be a rust bucket who's lights and engines flicker on and everything groans in struggle. This thing is PERFECT.
I love how the lights spool up in temperature and flicker on, the engines burr and growl on, the ramp metal groans as it deploys. CIG nailed the feeling I was hoping for.
Now to have this ship in the size of the Firefly... A perfect upgrade path.
There's just something so charming about the Cutter. I don't need a starter ship at all, but between the looks, and those switches and buttons, I just had to get one. Flying it around feels kind of like my dad gave me his old truck. It may never perform best in class, but I'm going to enjoy putting the best components in it that it can take, and taking it around the verse.
I think the whole concept of 'starter ships' is a flawed one. Every ship should have its useful place in the game and not just be a 'stepping stone'. The Cutter is your typical mail/package delivery vehicle ... small, efficient, easy to maintain. Sure, it has a small cargo capacity, but it fits its niche nicely. At the moment, large ships do everything better and have not that much downsides (f.e. the higher fuel consumption is mitigated by a higher cargo capacity). Maybe they add some more downsides that depend on the scale of the ship: very limited number of landing pads for large ships, landing fees that raise exponentially with ship size, restricted area access for certain ship classes (your mailman doesn't deliver your order with an APC). The game would profit from a break with the "bigger is always better" dogma.
After the release hype wears down the Titan still seems like a better ship, it has much better weapons and 2 entrances when the cargo is full. The Cutter only has 2xS2 hardpoints which is still worse than a Mustang in firepower. If you're only doing light cargo and delivery missions then the Cutter is good, but I also thought the same thing about the Pisces. If you want to throw in combat and bounty hunting then I say the Titan is still a must.

I've taken a long break from this game and I'm not understanding what people like about the cutter. It doesn't particularly have anything another started doesn't have. Are people still weirdly obsessed with toilets? Once the Auroras and Mustangs are updated to the same level of functionality they will be much more competent ships.
But you can't fit the Mule.
While none of that's wrong, I think it'll become a lot stronger once more mechanics come online. Once inventory is fully physicalized, stuff like that personal storage locker will become a lot more important, as ships won't have the magic inventory you can access anywhere on the ship, and you'll probably need to use storage boxes in your cargo space for ships that don't have any. Additionally, once Pyro, and later exploration gameplay loops, come online the value of a massive fuel tank, space for a ground vehicle, and a full hab space will go up quite a bit.
Though that fuel tank is actually a pretty big deal right now. I think that makes it the best shuttle ship, since you can slap the fastest QT drive on it and not worry about being unable to reach anywhere. The only competition is maybe the Pisces, which trades fuel size for being able to spawn from ground vehicle terminals, meaning you essentially always have one within reach. Being able to fit a ground vehicle isn't nothing either, as they're a lot of fun to use, but are pretty limited by the fun spots to use them generally being far from where you can spawn them.
There's also something to be said about just not being cramped, because the Aurora, the Mustang, and even the Titan are some very cramped spaces.

Very good review, thanks! I like how you covered Drake's customary rough-around-the-edges vibe. But you missed how the external headlight flickers a bit before it comes on or goes off. That's some really interesting detail along with the spot-welding marks. I agree - the modelers really stepped it up with this one.

That actually feels like a really solid theory. The engines, the boxy shape, the analogue controls, the whole rough and ready feel.
The Razorcrest was very likely inspired by the Cutlass. The person who designed the Razorcrest, Ryan Church, worked at CIG.
I purchased the cutter and love it. The range is what sold me the most, but I also love the working storage locker. My fav little quirk is the lever that actually moves for deploying and retracting the landing gear.
Its too bad the lever operates backwards. Up should be gear up and down should be down... But its reversed lol
I really like the utilitarian design of the Cutter and am surprised that Drake didn't try to cram in extra weapons.
You *CAN* technically jam a roc in the cutter. You need to drive it in forward so you can get out into the ship. It sticks out the end but it stays even into quantum. You can’t reach the ramp panel on foot so you have to bind the open-close door keybind. When it closes the back wheels will clip into the ramp but it goes back to normal when opened. Even if you don’t want to tempt the space kraken you can just leave the door open and pick up a roc at an outpost and fly it around in atmo. This technically makes the cutter the only starter ship with the ability to carry a roc second only to the $90 nomad.
A new morphologis upload makes any day better, these videos are so high quality , its very refreshing.

Easily the best starter ship imo, I just feel like starter ships won't really matter that much when/if the game ever launches.

Been racing with the Cutter a bit. Those VTOLs really allow you to bank in those tight corners!
How do you use vtols to help with turning? Im new and just got the cutter.

The tactile approach to interior with all this switches and buttons is what sold it to me visualy

The Cutter seems to actually be what the people running the Pisces as a starter wanted it to be. I love the Pisces as an auxiliary craft, but it really needs its parent ship. No bed or other amenities necessary for extended range and endurance.
I feel like they should totally do another variant of the Pisces with a proper bed and a super tiny kitchen/living area
Pisces is the best starter ship! Bed logging is broken half the time so waste to get it.
My cutter always makes me smile. In college I had short wheelbase chevy van that was originally used as a service vehicle. My cutter reminds me of it alot. I wish I could decorate it. I would put up NIN, Fugazi and tool posters and then toss in a black light.

I like the idea of the secondary forward engines. This way even if one of the main engines is shot off or damaged the torque imbalance/spin can be avoided simply by going to vtol and sacrificing top speed. Great little ship.
The Cutter's price makes it really appealing. But I love my space penguin Renegade.

The cutter is cool, because it has a passing resemblance the the Mandolorian ship, Razor Crest. It was a calculated thought for sure.

I love how this is the new ship you get after doing the tutorial! It’s such a quirky little thing! Flew it back after losing landing gear, a thruster and was heavily damaged. Somehow she made it back to a hangar 😂
i love that you don't really need to use the screens at all, or hotkeys, everythings a knob, a switch, a button. it's very clunk click. love it.
The major advantage of the Cutter starting from 3.19 is the weapon rack which can hold 2 pistols or utility weapons, 1 rifle and 1 huge weapon like railgun, so anytime you blow up for some reason, you have all these weapon on the ship
i have an avenger but the cutter is mind blowingly beautiful to me that i'm really consider buying it too lol
I want to see if any of these attributes are adjusted as the game progresses. CIG has a documented history of making new ships incredibly tough/fast/borderline-OP and then walking them back or nerfing things on them in the future. That being said, I do love this little ship.
The Cutter is definitely not borderline OP, it' just gives up nearly all its combat ability in exchange for other things.
@Logan Wolfram for barely anything. The hydrogen and quantum stores are a mistake as that would mean it carries more fuel than the corsair.
It has a slower speed, harder to turn, less hull hp, less shield hp, same or less cargo, a reduced electromagnetic signature but huge IR glow.
What you do get is a ramp slightly wider so you can fit some more smaller vehicles in it over the nomad and the titan.
@@asymsolutions sure, but the Nomad and Titan both cost more. This is the cheapeat possible version of the Nomad-Titan ship type. I think that's enough of a niche. But if anything, Titans are probably a bit too good all arounders right now, and Auroras are too strong in combat for $45 starters. Perhaps physicalized damage and systems gameplay will bring better balance. It is kinda neat and all that cheap ships are good, but personally I think I'll enjoy the game more if there's a long progression of ship value to move up over time.

With several ships at my disposal, I definitely didn't need the cutter but I had to pick it up anyways. It's surely going to be my new a to b driver. Fun to fly, plenty of space, really fleshed out. Great ship and great video
The Cutter launch is extremely successful in design and execution. It definitely has the Drake flavor throughout, it has practical and imaginative ways to utilize it, and it has a distinct advantage against other designs and compliments the Drake fleet perfectly. Well done CIG.

The thing I like about this ship as a starter that I think most miss is it's resemblance to another starter ship in a little game called Privateer so many years ago. The guns even mount in the same place if I remember correctly. That ship was a flying brick just like this one. Very similar in size and functionality as well. Very fond memories of that game and this ship is a reminder every time I see it.
My very first ship/ game package was actually the freelancer. Stand alone ship was gladius. Ground vehicle was the dragonfly. My dream ships (sub cap) a2 for sure. The F8 and Sabre as well.

Love your content and great video as always :). I pledged for the Cutter yesterday to get the LTI for future upgrades. The Spirit C1 will be my daily driver so I don't have a need for the Cutter however I'm seriously considering upgrading the Cutter to the new medical Pices.
personnaly i think the best thing about the cutter is his quantum capacity, with is 8000 of quantum fuel you will be able to travel to bigger system like pyro in the future or swap to a VK-00 and travel very fast in a single system and that is really a game changer since the cutter is the only starter with that mucth travel capacity

This is the closest I have yet seen to a Star Citizen analog to the old Tarsus from Wing Commander: Privateer. It is like the Tarsus and the Cutlass had a love child, I love it. The cockpit glass, the slope of the flat nose, the old school monitors with the keyboard, the gun placement, they all scream Tarsus. The Aurora used to be the Tarsus analog, but it never had the proper cluttery rust bucket aesthetic. ;)
I was really surprised when they said that this would be a Drake ship with high armor but minimal guns. It went against my ideas on what a Drake ship should be. I do love the ship though. The fact it has so much hull health is really nice especially for a starter ship. I think it will become my main hop-around ship. I just love the Drake interior style so much.
It has less hull health that most of the other starters. Someone posted the stats on reddit pulled right from erkul.

So you want to buy the Cutter Pack (the 45$ IAE one with Cutter + Game + LTI) and upgrade the Cutter from that Pack to a Titan?
Yeah you can do that. All you need to do is buy an Upgrade (CCU) from a Cutter to a Titan.
You only need to pay the 10$ diffrence + Tax (unless you use store credit then no tax). You keep your gamepackage. No need to melt anything.
Or do you already own a diffrent Starterpack and want to melt that to then buy the Cutter Pack?

The loveable penguin definitely got some competition, it's much more fleshed out for today's gameplay where the Avenger started to lean toward vehicle combat in it's multirole function.
I bought a Constellation Andromeda and I fell in love with it.
I really like the look of The Cutter. Reminds me of the ship the mandalorian used in the show, well, The Mandalorian.

The misc reliant is still my favourite. It cant do anything all that well but it looks cool, it has the best visibility hands down and it feels very nice to fly

I love this thing. It's humble, unassuming. Feels like a cargo hauler that's been repurposed by a mercenary to keep their equipment, and just something cheap and reliable to take them from A to B. Could probably pass under the radar of most authorities, too. Almost like the Razorcrest.
Gotta say though - coming from Elite, naming _this_ tiny piece of junk the "Cutter" is way more amusing to me than it should be lol
The sound design of the Cutter is also great, I flew both Cutter and Avenger Titan and the last one does not give the same cool feedback of your actions. Like when you start the engines, accelarate and so on. It gives a better feeling for the ship.
looking through the starter packs, I saw this ship and instantly fell in love with it! If I were to get into Star Citizen, this is the ship I would get!
Great video on the Cutter. And I agree, I'm REALLY not a fan of the way the Cutter looks but...can't deny, it really is an incredibly detailed and well rounded design and will likely be my suggested starter for any person looking to first get into Star Citizen.
I do have one complaint about this video though. In the final shot with all the best starter ships, you included everything but my beloved 300i, which I certainly see as a good contender to the Titan. Made me very sad.😥
The Mule does fit in the Cutter! If you park face first you have just enough room to exit the Mule and go through the door inside. you have to park with the back tires as close to the back door as possible, but it fits and you can get out and fly the ship.

I got cutter, i like the aesthetic of it over the sleek design of others. In my mind its kinda like home built pc vs apple as far as looks go. One thing I will note is that you can rent the avenger and many space ports and cities. So if I want to spend a day doing ship combat I can spend 15k aUEC and get that fix whenever I want.

It's a van with a living space - it's the perfect non-combat starter and I've started a 'hard mode' on my second account where all I have is a cutter and a Mule to go earn my way to other careers.
Fun fact, some of the empty modules for components are perfect for holding boxes like the one in the cockpit which is a nice touch xD

Haven't played Star citizen yet, researching. but I'd like to do exploration, and this looks like a great starter.
Hey Morph, enjoyable video as usual. Though I have a couple minor corrections for you. Firstly, the Mule fits perfectly fine if you drive it in with the drivers seat facing the forward wall. It does obstruct the pilot from exiting the cutter without also moving the Mule though. Secondly, I recall seeing a CIG employee mention that the quantum fuel capacity was an error, and it'll be lowered to be more in line with the other starters in a future patch.
I've flown all the "starter" ships. Loved my Titan. Loved the Nomad. The others were fine. Owned a 600i and Warden combo for a long time. 3 flavors of Connies were last years loves. Bought and melted my MSR more times than I can count. But the Cutter. The Cutter is my endgame ship. It is my space VW bus. Back my STV in it off to the left back corner so I can walk around it to get in and out of the ship and just wander. Love it. Got it and a Corsair and hardly fly the Corsair even though I do love it too. My other few ships are just place holders at this point if I need to scratch a combat or racing itch.
Avenger holds 8 SCU of cargo not 6. I am also assuming the $60 price will be the price of the game package after IAE but the ship value will remain at $45.
The shape and black and yellow paint job remind me of a school bus. Which is fine with me as I often drive a school bus as well as the highway coaches.
Honestly, people might prefer the sleek design style, but this 90s Matrix control panel and the essentialist layout of everything is beautiful. It's 'techy' in the best kind of way. I'm always more interested in a ship when I can go "hey, I wonder what that pipe is for".
I kinda see the Cutter as a "front of a railway engine welded onto half of a cargo container with engines strapped onto it" kinda thing myself. (As for Drake ships not being "tanky", the hull HP on this ship is really high and since it does not have a lot of bits and bobs - like wings and stuff - the damage model will make it quite resillient I think).
Great little ship IMO.
Bonus - I have tested it and the NOX will fit beside the 4 SCU of cargo without clipping, giving enough room to dismount, close the ramp and access the forward part of the ship interior. I did not however test if the SCU is accessible if the NOX is already in the hold because of server stability, but I plan to.

In elite dangerous the cutter is the best of the best "you've made it" endgame ship.
In Star Citizen it's the rustic starter pack.
What they have in common: both are flying bricks. One by the looks, the other by the handling.
I love how it actually looks like a rugged ship instead of a US jet fighter like the rest of the ships.
I came back to Star Citizen because of this ship and it's price, the value alone makes it worth it for something to get started and explore the universe in. However the more I used it I found myself really loving the vibe (technical term) of the little ship, it feels like the "Van life" kind of thing, something you could actually live in. I know it sounds weird but one thing that bothered me about the Titan was the fact it had a bed but no toilet, which is really odd. The only thing I would love to see is the addition of a hatch somewhere up front, it would make sense as an emergency escape hatch or for a secondary entry if the cargo bay is full. You could put it in the roof like on a military vehicle, climbing on top to get in is rather common.
Lastly for the whole Star Citizen game I would love to see customizable ship interiors, it's a bit out of place for the shelves and gun racks to be bare all the time.

I think I’ll become good friends with the cutter. It looks a bit like a brick shaped battery but I’ve always been function over form, and there is a charm to the rustic and basic design philosophy
Not gonna lie the Cutter looks kinda cute. Like a lil baby Cutlass waiting to grow up.
I bought the Avenger as a starter pack and then purchased the Cutter when it was released...The Cutter is good, very good, for general duties and well designed. It's slower than the Titan, much less manoeuvrable and doesn't have close to the firepower. The one thing it does have is range, the cutter can take you nearly anywhere in Stanton, twice, without a single refuel. but if they nerf the fuel load which has been predicted, I would choose the avenger and find myself again and again taking the avenger anyway for convenience in case I need the speed and firepower. If you want to be left alone, take the cutter as people probably think your new and broke and not worth the ammo cost to destroy or time to pirate.
Drake and Origin are my favorite ship types. When Im doing rescues I use my 325A but when I go mining or do bunker missions I use my Cutlass
Few folks are talking about how it reminds them of the Razor Back from the Mandalorian, but it's not just similar it's basically the same ship brought to star citizen. Same segmented inside, same outside look, similar piloting area just more room.
This is the comparison and contrast I needed to hear. I've watched many UA-cam vids endorsing either ship, but, I like the reasons you've provided for and against both. Most players were endorsing the Titan over the Cutter, but, yourself and one other streamer strongly endorsed the Cutter, and I can see why.
