@@omnisans1649 yes, he says the same thing to clara when she erases her memories from his mind
Peter Capaldi is THE Doctor. He has gravitas, even when playing the guitar while riding a tank through medieval Europe. Even when he’s sitting inside a miniature tardis and waving his hand through the little door. Even when he’s telling us to google something, or comparing poetry and physics. My favorite doctor is Peter Capaldi and he always will be.
Yes, one of the top Who writers at a conference here in the States in 2000 commented, as a criticism, looking back over many seasons, "the Doctor has to have gravitas." Unfortunately rare.
@@chrisdiver6224 9 and 10 certainly had gravitas too, 11 not so much but he had charisma instead
Will Shooty have Gravitas? god help us if he doesn't
@@jamesdettmann94 10 had gravitas? I feel like most of his adventures felt rather silly and childish.
@@CianaCorto I'd recommend watching family of blood, silence in the library and waters of mars in particular to see his gravitas on display
Capaldi wasn’t my first Doctor, nor my favorite when he began. But he won me over and he’s honestly my favorite and probably always will be.
Phrophetsam I feel the exact same. He started as far from my favorite Doctor, but Series 9 completely won me over and made him easily my favorite Doctor. He was born for this role. Wish he’d had another season with him. I really hope he comes back for the 60th.
Also my all time favorite doctor! He really took the role on and set the bar high!
Same :)
my favorite is Matt Smith, 11, but Capaldi, 12 here, is right up there because of his regeneration speech, "Always try to be nice, never fail to be kind"
My first Doctor was actually the First Doctor - started watching old episodes in about 2001/2002. Peter Capaldi is still my favourite Doctor out of all of them, and the definitive incarnation in my mind. I honestly do not think anyone will ever be able to top Capaldi. Such a monumental step down going to Jodie Whittaker.

That In universe explanation for why Capaldi had already been in Doctor Who (ignoring his appearance in Torchwood) was honestly brilliant. They could have ignored it, and just passed it off as a coincidence, but they didn’t. They wrote it in and added to his character using it.
Wait when did they explain? Feel missed that bit…
@@silaspoulson9935 In the season 9 episode- the Girl who Died (the first one with Ashildr), the doctor has a little thing of 'Who frowned me this face' - basically wondering why it was so wrinkled and worn already- before he realises that it was to remind him of that he saved people - like how 10 and Donna saved Caicilius (Capaldi's original character on the show) in Pompeii

The Twelfth Doctor is definitely the most tragic out of all the doctors so far imo. He lost Clara and had to see his lover to her death then he lost Bill and the good version of the master.
I also thought that they would've done the regenerations cycles getting younger and younger. i.e. David eccleston to David Tennent to Matt Smith. Progressively getting younger. Peter Capaldi in my view is absolutely magnificent as the Doctor. An absolute privilege to watch him play the part. He is my favourite Doctor and to me the best one. The Twelfth Doctor I feel has a rich and wonderful character arc. From doubting whether he is a good man to ending up as one of the kindest incarnations, it’s a fantastic journey. This era was superb. People may disagree and that’s their right but I just love it. So thank you Peter Capaldi. Thank you Steven Moffat. For giving me an era that I can happily rewatch time and time again. And for giving me my Doctor.
I feel like he was a victim of some terrible writing for about 30-40% of his run, but Capaldi himself was brilliant.
Mahir Tahseen and Jodie is the victim of 100% terrible writing
Sofie Eden Exactly, which is sad because I genuinely want to see Jodie be a unique Doctor instead of just A Doctor.
Mahir Tahseen I completely agree. While Capaldi’s writing wasn’t always the best, he was always amazing. He’s my favorite doctor because of how well he played the character.
When the doctor refused to change once again as twelve i kind of rolled my eyes, but looking back on his history it makes sense. Both ten and twelve had so much happen to them, both treasured people and lost them and learned lessons along the way. Both didn't want to change from the person they had become, weren't ready for that potential to just change into something unknown to them.
I always thought of it in a different manner. Ten wanted to stick around and did quite a few tricks to stay the same. Twelve was straight up refusing to regenerate, like the Master once did. He wasn't refusing to change, he was going to end it all.
Which kind of makes sense. At that point he had to be one of the single oldest Time-lords, and definitely the one who has experienced most hardship and strife. And with a new cycle of regeneration it was all going to repeat. To me, his last adventure was to remind him that he could do good, that there was a reason for him to stick around. That's why the first Doctor was part of the story, a reflection of how he started.
The longer Capaldi's hair got the better his Doctor got.
My WHOLE heart is always with the Twelfth Doctor.
From "Kidneys!!"
To "Doctor, I let you go.."
There will never be another with the same darkness and alien qualities that he had.
Peter is fantastic.
We still don't know what he doesn't like the color of
This is my doctor. I love them all. But i feel i have a very strong connection to the 12th doctor. However ... I miss him so bad.
Definitely a big loss that shall be forever missed. I'm still hoping he appears in more cameos, I would love seeing him in a special episode or hearing more from his old tales in Big Finish.
@@ReversedPolarity Someone on Tumblr mentioned that Alex Kingston is trying to persuade him to do Big Finish with her. If it's true that would be brilliant, plus Peter said he'd wished he had done more episodes with Alex....we live in hope!
@@jooie444 say what!? Where did you get this juicy intel? I've been wanting Matt and Chris in Big Finish for the longest time, but if Peter got into Big Finish, it would fill that gap for me. And man... I would love Alex and Peter to return for that usual Doctor/River banter. Technically, it could be made... there's a bit of a loophole in those years they spent in Darillium. One can only hope.
@@ReversedPolarity It's from someone I follow on Tumblr. I'm not sure where she got the information from. Maybe Alex said something at a recent convention ? I definitely saw the video where Peter said he enjoyed working with Alex and wished they had a few more episodes together, so who knows?
@@jooie444 It would be really cool, for certain. It's a bit of a commitment for actors, but they really should've had more time together and that would be perfect. I'm still a bit skeptical that he will change his mind after what he said when he left, but he also left us a "maybe". And "maybe", he will come back some day.
I love that he went from a angry old man to realising he’s just an idiot with a box just passing by and embracing it wholeheartedly by making an entrance on a tank playing an electric guitar in the middle ages.
"I can't keep on being somebody else"- as a guy who keeps starting his life anew and travelling - the way he said that really hit home. 12 will always be my favourite 💙💙
This whole video could be Heaven Sent and I don't think anyone would mind
"Run fast, laugh hard, be kind... Doctor I let you go"
I still can't let him go. My Doctor.
"Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind" it’s such a powerful sentence that i myself use in my daily life, the twelfth doctor influenced me so much in life and that’s why he will always be my favourite doctor and nothing can ever change that, Capaldi did the most amazing job as the twelfth doctor
Honestly every speech he gave in his run could bring a tear to your eye. His acting is so incredible, I honestly don’t know how anyone can follow him as a more passionate and down to earth doctor.
Its like night and day comparing 12th Doctor and 13th.
"A surprise to be sure but a welcome one."
Peter Capaldi is a very underappreciated actor.
When he was announced I was overjoyed. He was a known super fan and Legit was coming in to play a role he dreamed of having for years. The first Oscar winning actor to play the Doctor. And when he came on screen...... He amazed me so much. Peter you were amazing
Went from decent writing and marvelous acting to terrible writing and horrible acting.
Honestly Capaldi was born to play The Doctor.
Only 53 minutes and 20 seconds? It's not enough!
Peter Capaldi is one of the greatest actors I’ve ever scene. His emotional inflections are fantastic
I watched an episode of the 13th doctor a little earlier today. Just as much time as this video, but I was moved only by this one. Which isn't even an episode. Maybe its the writing, or the actors, or both, but the Twelfth Doctor's journey was magical to me. It didn't demand anything from me, just a willingness to listen. Which is basically all that the Twelfth Doctor asked for. To just listen.
It's definitely the writing. Jodie Whittaker has played incredible and compelling characters when she's been able to work with better writers than Chibnall.
I really like how Peter Capaldi portrayed the 12th Doctor. He acts like all the Doctors in the original, but still having the modern twist to it. It just so nostalgic to watch.
Capaldi always gives 1200% in his performance; What a legend.
The doctor truly did die with Capaldi’s doctor. That style, tactfulness, intelligent humor, wittiness, and pure dramaticism made him the best of the best. Sad to see how far the show has fallen from that level.
blame chibnall and all who allowed him to get away with his crap writing.
I guess when they said "ALL" thirteen, they meant it.
@@michaelspence2508 loool
13 broke the promise to 12 as he left. he said "be kind".
13 was too busy trying to be right than to be kind.
19:48 this speech is by far the best in the entire show imo
this is the scene that caused me to love Capaldi's doctor
Unpopular opinion: Of the two Moffat doctors, Capaldi had the stronger era.
I grew up with Matt Smith, so personally I love his era. And yes that even includes series 7 XD. Because of this, when Peter Capaldi began his tenure as the Doctor I didn't even given him a chance. After S11 though I watched through all of the New Who's episodes and I actually warmed to him much more than anticipated. Definitely a great era, but for me not as good as Matt Smiths.
Agreed
Strongest era period. Capaldi will always be THE doctor to me. I’m disgusted with myself because I did what so many people did and I quit watching and never have it a chance and when I came back and rewatched new who years later, I realized Capaldis Run is the best
I can definitely understand why a lot of people like the Capaldi era better. He was a great Doctor. But for me, he was let down by writing that became progressively weaker as time went on. Series 8? Really good. One of my favorites. Series 9? Not a bad series, but there's nothing about it that elevates it to greatness. It almost gets there, but then the appalling reversal of an important consequence completely undermines what would have been powerful storytelling. And the series just kind of sputters out after that. Series 10 is pretty much carried by Missy. I found both of the Doctor's companions underwhelming, and the only memorable episodes for me were the final two.
@@InJeffable
I find that to be a problem Smith has as well. There's not really much to go back to outside of Series 5. There's Doctor Wife, Girl Who Waited, God Complex, and.... that's about it.
They're really trying to hold off this trailer.
@super john Probably will be for Children in Need seem to have a slot for the show
@super john bruh, they finished filming like around Halloween, they need to finish the CGI VFX afterwards, and that takes a while to do
they still havent released War of the Worlds, almost a year overdue 😂😂😂
@@RicStorm616
that show has been out since like a week now, and they just casted and filmed early this year
super john we’ll most likely get a first look next Friday during Children in Need. That’s normally when they release the first trailer for the new season. Doctor Who always has an automatic time slot for Children in Need every year whether it be a mini episode, teaser trailer or the first full trailer for the next season. So it very likely we’ll get something next Friday.
My favourite doctor of all time, really developed over his time from grumpy old man to the man who wants to settle down and help his best friend
"SIT DOWN AND TALK"
I cried when I first saw this scene and I just cried again
All the reasons why he is my favourite Doctor, except one: "Hello Sweetie!"
Yeah me too i miss this moment
I once saw Peter Capaldi on a holiday in Rome! I was sitting, eating some lovely pasta with my family and there he was, only a couple of metres away from me, walking by!
TomChippy are you sure it was Peter and not the doctor searching for something he left earlier
Looking back, Capaldi really gave his incarnation of the doctor everything he had.
When he regenerated, my reaction was very similar to Clara's. And then I lost it at the
"Kidneys! I've got new kidneys! ...I don't like the color!" and that's when I fell in love with him. The fight with Robin Hood solidified it.
"You know what the hardest thing about knowing you was? Letting you go. Letting go of the Doctor is so, SO hard." ❤️
