Actually, I could see this design being used as a sort of "True form" for Arceus. As for how it'd fit into the story, maybe instead of Cyrus using the power of Palkia, Dialga, and/or Giritina to make a new, perfect, world, maybe he could use Arceus and unleash it's true power, maybe through the idea of breaking or removing it's ring, as suggested in the video, or using some sort item, like that flute thing from the scrapped Arceus event.

The idea that maybe Arceus's form as we see it isn't it's true form and this thing predates it sounds cool.
There was a theory I saw where the Arceus we see is made up from romanticized art based from Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina's design from the people of the past. Arceus saw this art and found it amusing and flattered that it changed into this form to display in front of humans. Even if it wasn't in this form, we could not see it's true form and this blob is the shroud that covers it. Who knows? Maybe the true form has those 1000 arms it used to create the world.

I think we can quickly cover both why Arceus looks like it does and why one can stuff it in a ball.
It is a divine avatar, one sent to test trainers, it is a physical tangible form so it doesn't just outright kill the poor 10-ish year old it's testing this generation. But since this is also a trial it is allowing its capture. Something that gains evidence from a far lesser legendary in Calyrex. If one can overcome their immense power and capture them then the trainer deserves to be accompanied with these Pokémon.
Makes sense, as it can't be that someone just captures GOD and then potentially stores it in a ball forever, not letting God do its thing.

in Pokémon Conquest, Arceus is shown as invincible, to the point where he doesn't take damage, and you can only link with it, showing how normal items like pokeballs or weapons are meaningless in a battle against It, and honestly, i feel like that is Beta Arceus, not holding itself back durig this ''trial'' since you, the player, have united the regionj with your hands.
This, is Beta Arceus, deciding to take up the form of it's avatar since the lesser beings have depicted it, as It's true form.
Beta Arceus looks like the original spirit form of Arceus, before it shaped it's current form and the pokemon universe.

I like the idea that the Arceus in the games/anime (in addition to the creation trio) is merely an avatar of the Original One. The Pokemon you're able to throw a Poke Ball at is nothing but one of Arceus' "thousand arms" that watches over this portion of the universe.

Yeah, Arceus's final design just doesn't feel at all unique when compared to any of the other Pokemon, which makes his supposed "god" status really difficult to believe. As far as we normally see. If they had gone with a polished version of this beta design instead, it would have given a lot more of a contrast when compared with everything else, which would definitely reinforce it's role in the lore significantly better. It also just makes a lot more sense for something god-like to be something a lot more abstract than what we ended up with.
Then the whole pseudo-cosmic horror subtext gen 4 had, especially in it's bonus content (Hall of Origin, Sinjoh-Ruins) makes quite a lot more sense.
Perhaps the arceus we see is not arceus itself but maybe some sort of image of it, one of its hands or something else. Because let’s be real, god would never appear before us AND be catchable. It’s clearly a test created by arceus and what we see is not its true form.
Have you ever thought of the idea of transcendental beings that are beyond mortal comprehension taking on an avatar form that is more comprehensible and materialistic to mortals within the material world? Had mortals saw such a chaotic form of Arceus, they probably would’ve been terrified or even go insane. Arceus’ Pokémon appearance is just that. A physical form that is comprehensible to mortals. So of course you would find the god/eldritch status difficult to believe because the Pokémon avatar of it is convincing enough as intended.

I like the idea that beta Arceus was the original form of him, but then people started to depict him more like he is now. Arceus decided that it found this form humorous and started appearing as such fir human comprehension as opposed to its multidimensional shadow compressed into 3d
I think what they were going for with a "Pokemon God" was a primordial eldritch being with no real physical form, just something that was decently comprehensible for human minds.

Great video! Glad Beta Arceus is becoming more examined and bringing more perspective. I personally prefer Beta due to it portraying more of a cosmic horror than its final design that's more of a odd sci-fi creature. The Beta design is simple yet has complexity in a strange way, trying to visualize what it could've really looked like. It has that uneasiness like how we confronted the ghost Pokemon in Kanto without wearing the Silph Scope. The fear of the unknown. -(No pun intended, I barely noticed while typing this.)-
I personally think that Legendary Pokémon are still "free" if you caught them. Like basically they're like "You can call me to fight!" or "I see you as my owner, and i will stay by your side" but they still rule the world. Even inside their Pokéballs.
What if instead of them being caught, the ball breaks and they give you some item to call them that functions as their ball gameplay-wise. Imagine pulling out some golden crystal and watching as Giratina appears from the Distortion World and looks at you like "yo what's up"
I think Arceus was supposed to be a being of energy, producing light. I feel like they couldn’t make it look good, so they went with something else. I think his beta design inspired Ultra Necrozma, more specifically the light produced and the glowing eyes. Obviously head canon, but still interesting parallels to see

I’m a big fan of beta Arceus. Imo it’s final design is kinda bland when you think about the fact that Arceus is the Pokégod. I think that beta Arceus has both a cute baby vibe and an unnerving vibe,with it’s eyes and stuff. I really hope that they’d use it’s beta design someway on the gen 4 remakes(maybe an origin form or something) because that’d really cool to see :>

I like to think that Beta Arceus is the form it took when they first manifested into the void that they would mold into the world we know it as. As they solidified their ideas for how to shape the universe, they took on a more corporeal form, with Vaguely Equine apparently being the prime shape.

Even as a kid playing these games, I was always sorta under the impression that the Arceus we catch ISN’T actually Arceus, but just something akin to an avatar of Arceus. I even feel like I have a memory of the game being somewhat open about that being the reason we can catch it, and why we can’t use it to fundamentally reshape reality as we know it in the Pokémon universe (other than the meta-narrative reasoning that it’s a pre-programmed video game). It’s entirely possible that that isn’t the case, but it still remains as my interpretation of Arceus. It would also explain why he’s so flashy - devas and avatars from real mythology tend to be resplendent in finery, after all.
Way I see it, the Arceus we commonly know is the physical form it takes when appearing before mortals. The near-shapeless mass that is 'beta' Arceus is the closest to what its true form looks like. In simple terms, we have no idea what Arceus actually looks like and is probably far beyond our human comprehension.

Arceus, and by extension, all Legendaries, immortal, therefore after you die they can just go back to doing whatever the fuck they were doing before like they just took a 1 week long vacation, which is exactly what it would feel like to them. What is one human's lifetime compared to eternity?

Gonna throw this out there, but beta Arceus reminds me a lot of the Giratina we encounter at the Spear Pillar that pulled Cyrus into the distortion world. It was almost as if it didn't take a fully physical form and was beyond understanding until we encounter it properly, similar to beta Arceus. And considering Giratina was there to stop Dialga and Palkia, perhaps that shadowy form is Giratina's true form, allowing it to unleash its true power, and it only took that form because it was trying to stop what it perceived as an enemy powerful enough to destroy the universe (what Cyrus was doing). If this is true, perhaps Beta Arceus is Arceus' unbound true form and Dialga and Palkia also have similar forms (but were unable to transform into them bc they were captured before they could). The reason why they take on the forms we currently know, then, is because of the lake guardians giving them more stable forms in which to govern the universe with without risking one of these pokemon destroying the fabric of the universe.

I know this video was released before Legends: Arceus, but I do still want to mention that PLA reveals the Arceus we see in game is just an avatar, a portion of its power. It's true form is unknown and incomprehensible.
I have always felt that the Sinnoh legendaries that you encounter in game are just the lesser avatars or incarnations of the true gods they are. They are only letting you use them for fun. The battle is really only testing if you even deserve to handle their weakest powers. And Arceus's final form seems to be a "noble-esque" appearance. Basically it's dressing up for fun. Or its appearing that way because D/P protags are kinda fancy pancy so it would appear kinda fancy pancy noble to appeal to the protag.

I would like that in the remake of sinnoh as a story after the main plot there would be a fight with arceus and when he had less than a quarter of his life left he would tear his physical form freeing his true form which would be the beta form they showed, similar to what happens with master hand and master core.

When I was in school, I thought it would be cool if I made a more significant being than Arceus, which I called Galaxon. Which was a much, much larger entity than him, literally the sizeof the galaxy. His wings morphed into two galaxies, or more like porals shaped like wings that entered into the universe. He was mainly based off an owl, given the symbolism for wisdom. And the reason why Galaxon made pokemon was to make it easier to keep the world and universr balenced from evil or harm, Arceus was like his assistant, to hold his place when he sleeps, which is every thousand years. Anyway thats just a little bit about my concept idea for my story.

Arceus' creating the world after being Brin from an egg is a inspired by old myths about the creation of the world.
I like to think the ring keeps Arceus from becoming this other worldly look in front of everyone aside from changing its type.

I read through a lot of the comments and saw through the whole video and I think all the ideas are pretty spot on to what I thought Beta Arceus would be like in-game or in other media. We still see the Arceus design we've come to know over the years, but the player and others around them have to question how the heck they were able to catch what is essentially God. That is until they realize this isn't actually them but rather an avatar sent to test the player and observe how Pokemon are treated on Earth. With that said, when you catch glimpses of the actual Arceus, you can't even grasp its physical appearance, apart from the gilatenous etherial look of the beta sprite. And if you've treated your Pokemon well, they'll probably go to you in this form to give their gratitude.
I like to believe this is the original arceus. Many, many, MANY eons ago, it looked like this, however, it used some of its power to create dialga, palkia, and giratina. It lost some power, and took the form it currently has. Maybe in the sinnoh remakes, arceus is fused with dialga, palkia, and giratina again, and becomes its beta design. It has 255 base stats around the board, and it can use any move in the game (including signature moves), can change its ability at any time to any of them, and can change its typing to anything, depending on what move you’re about to use. You aren’t meant to win. It is immune to all Pokéballs. You only “win” the battle once you run out of Pokémon, and Cynthia calms it down. It then unfuses, and arceus runs off, and then you take your Pokémon to a Pokécenter, and try to catch the creation trio.
Kinda like the idea that the form we have seen is just like armor or something covering the beta design...

A friend of mine said since its shape is actually identical to Arceus, it would be cool that it would be a shadow of its former self and when you take it to a certain area the symbol around arceus forms around it and the darkness dissolves off and-with a great light-it purifies itself and grounds itself to the mortal plane with a more purified form... I like to think of beta arceus as a massive golden spirit flying around the universe
maybe give the player a special plate that makes arceus all types at once, basically works like this, no weakness, no resistance, stab on every element, and his design is changed to a more origin form, a simpler less ornate form that more resembles the cosmic form from the beta sprite, stats dont really change either so in an essence its as strong as before but far far more versatile, even having judgement be all type so no matter what its super effective (maybe with a slight reduction to damage to compensate for its new power) Basically the ultimate arceus form, oh also perhaps he can be the only mon with hidden power besides the unown
Now I'm considering the potential of this design getting a Gen 5 animated sprite. After all, those sprites were animated primarily by rotating pieces of the main sprite art. However, Beta Arceus here is pretty much a silhouette, creating a unique potential with this segment rotation method.
What if sections you didn't expect to bend did so?
What if there were extra sections behind the main sprite, still the same base color as everything else, that bent to reveal themselves in certain parts of the animation? Completely changing it's shape in bizarre ways?
Conversely, it's legs or head parts could potentially bend so far as to disappear into the main body mass again, given they're all the same color and assuming there wouldn't be any black outline around them.
Maybe the normal Arceus we see in games (as it was stated in the pokedex) is only one of the 1.000 arms that created the universe and Beta Arceus is when Arceus fuses with all the 1.000 arms

In defense of the final design Arceus, it does have aspects of its design that make sense and connects to the other Pokémon designs. The facial designs of the Creation Trio share the same facial design as Arceus (Such as Dialga’s upper face just being Arceus’ face turned to a vertical angle), jewels are a very prominent design of Arceus, The Creation Trio, and The Lake Trio. Arceus having jewels on its ring, the Jewel of Life from the movie, Palkia having pearls, Dialga having diamonds, Giratina doesn’t have a jewel embedded into its body nor does it seem to be associated with one at all but I like to believe that it’s associated with Platinum due to the title of its debut game being “Pokémon Platinum”. The Lake Trio all have jewels on their forehead and tails. In another perspective, The Creation Trio’s designs look as if you took Arceus’ physical form and made draconic versions of it. The final design makes it very clear of the connection between The Creation Trio, The Lake Trio, and itself as their creator very clear to the viewer.
In terms of being a god, a transcendental entity, it’s likely that the final design Arceus, the one that just looks like a Pokémon, is the entity intentionally taking on a form that is more comprehensible to the mortals of the Pokémon universe and that resembles a Pokémon to them. Eldritch forms, like the beta form, are likely to drive mortals into insanity and fear. If we’re comparing it to the monotheistic God, like how everyone pretty much does at this point, then neither form of Arceus, beta or final, is its actual form. Mortals cannot physically sense God’s true being whatsoever, be it sight, hearing, touch, or smell. But in the end, I honestly do not see the point in determining in which design is better suited considering the fact that both designs can be official and made to interesting use in the lore. I feel that this whole “which appearance is better?” argument is missing the point of Arceus being a transcendental entity that is completely beyond mortal comprehension at the end of the day. So it doesn’t really matter as many keep making it out to be. That and only God is allowed to judge which form it is comfortable with.
On the theory, at least my personal theory of why the Pokémon God allows the Pokémon Trainer to catch it with a pokéball seems to be an intentional thing of the entity. Arceus is a transcendental being that has remained in long slumbers and rarely interacts with mortals in person. It presumably observes them from above and the powerful influential bond between humans and Pokémon. Perhaps it’s willing to understand what makes the bond between humans and Pokémon so special as well as feel a sense of belonging in the world, according to its last spoken line to Ash and Pikachu in the Jewel of Life movie. Of course in the games, it’s through a test that proves that the protagonist is a trainer worthy of its presence. It can be taken in fiction that while mortals can desire deeper understanding of the transcendental, the transcendental can desire deeper understanding of mortals. An alien thing wanting to understand another alien thing.
I feel like during a fight with Arceus, the beta sprite should appear and like power construct, it turns into the finished sprite with better stats and at 90% hp.
