The poplio line is a huge comfort for me due to being bullied in my teen years but going home and playing pokemon moon and opening the pokemon refresh,seeing poplio,brionne or primarina being really happy to see me helped and comforted me through those harsh years and really helped me slowy get back into my intrests of that most would be considered "girly"

Primarina is literally my favorite Pokémon of all time. I fell in love with Popplio ever since it stood up in the trailer (it gave me major Oshawott vibes), and despite the completely unwarranted hate it received, that love persisted to the release. Popplio into Primarina was a consistently great partner throughout my journey in Sun, and even in the post game it helped out a lot when grinding the elite four to level up my competitively bred Pokémon (over a dozen boxes worth, yet I never actually used them since I don’t battle online).
On top of that, fairy is my favorite type in the game ever since I joined a local league club during the lead up to gen 7 and picked it as my type (mainly since the Tapus were all fairy type), and my attachment kept building as more members were added. Plus, I admittedly missed out on most of gen 6 since I didn’t get a 3DS until 2015, so I also have memories of Primarina being my main Pokémon in the game that got me back into my favorite franchise.

Not me -- it's part of why it's my favorite, both as a water type starter, and of it's trio as well. If you ask me, it fits for an island region like Alola
I absolutely loved Poplio the first time I laid eyes on it from the trailer, and couldn't wait to use it when the games came out. And boy, did it not disappoint. It helped carry me through my first playthrough of Sun, and I've always enjoyed using it in battle since.
But sadly, I remember back when this trio got so much hate, and it legit broke my heart to see people not see what was so special about the Primarina line. Yes, I could see the appeal of the other 2 starters, but as a fan of Seals in general, there really was no competition. I'm just thankful so much more appreciation for the line came to light over the years.
Heck, the hate for it was so strong back in the day, someone legit made a song to help spread appreciation for it, which I absolutely love to listen to. Look it up sometime, it's called: 'In Your Spotlight'.

Brionne is my favorite mid stage starter because it’s adorable. Also Primarina might also take inspiration from selkies which are a type of faerie from Ireland. Selkies are seals that can remove there seal skin to become a beautiful person and put it back on to turn back into a seal. There are plenty of stories about humans marrying selkies and hiding away their seal pelts, only for the selkie to find the pelt again and return to the sea.
Primarina is my favorite water starter. It's design embodies the ocean. It also has a good typing, fantastic stats and a good move pool.

I absolutely love Primarina, it’s Top 10 material for sure! Admittedly, it took until the Ultra games for me to begin to like it, but I’m glad I eventually got to it! It’s so pretty, it has a ton of personality (all throughout the line), the colors are great, and the Water/Fairy typing is strong!
As a side note, it’s great to see an overly feminine design that doesn’t raise eyebrows when you say you like it. That’s how you know when you have a quality Pokémon

I have a feeling that another reason for the Primarina hate may have to do with the fact that a seemingly masculine pokemon became so feminine, and because this was 2016 anything percieved as "sissy" was immediately kicked around and made fun of.
pretty much, yeah. i just made a comment about this but i despise how pokemon with an explicit gender are almost always hated on.
Don’t get me wrong, Gender Differences are a nice spicy addition, but as long as the design is good I don’t really care.

While I definitely think that was a big part of all the undeserved hate it got, I think that an almost equally large part has to do with the fact that Popplio was always the least liked of the 3 Alolan starters when they were first revealed. I personally never understood why it was such an overhated Pokemon, though that's probably partly because it was my favorite of the 3 from day one
I think it's weird how nobody talks shi against the Mons that looks overly masculine, but oh when a Pokémon looks to feminine it gets shit on

I actually liked Primarina a lot since it was revealed since a mermaid pokemon was something I didn't think GF would be able to pull through with but they did. On top of that it's slow speed made sense and it has the stats & moves to take advantage of it.

this made me realize that primarina and quaquaval are both alike in how poorly treated they were for not living up to everybody's expectations, as both evolve into some form of entertainers and are actually pretty and cool altogether instead of some edgy clown thing or pirate despite being absolutely peak in retrospect

When I first saw the Alolan starters my criteria for who I was going to choose was based on who I wanted to give a high five. Popplio won that easily with its big flipper hands. When thr games came out I nicknamed my Popplio "Selkie" after the seal woman myth.
Fun fact: Primarina actually is based on a selkie, much more so than it is a siren like so many people believe it to be. It's actually why it's body is divided into 2 different colors, and arguably partly how it was able to infuse the mermaid aesthetic into it's design: selkies shed their sea lion skin to take on the appearance of a human when they come ashore, and Primarina is halfway between a mermaid (which are humanoid) and a seal
My favorite Alola starter whenever I use it work gets put in and it looks great
It's also the best starter for a playthrough as well, which is one of several reasons why I have always been a huge fan of this Pokemon

The Popplio line is just overall perfect for me. I love all of it's evolutions, it's themes, and the typing.
When Alola was revealed, I actually wanted to choose Litten because Cat and fire, but later I felt sorry for Popplio, since it got mocked so much, and then when Primarina and Brionne were revealed I knew it was the right Pokémon for me to pick.
I love primarina. It litterally reminded me of Ariel my favorite disney princess. And the alola starters are in my top 5 favorite trio starters second behind kanto

Primarina is literally my favorite alola starter. At first when the games first dropped, Decidueye was my favorite, then it was Incineroar after smash ultimate came out, then Primarina turned into my favorite after several playthroughs of sun and moon where I picked it.

From my experience, I never actually got to play the official games so my first experience playing a Pokémon adjecent game was actually Pokémon Brick Bronze on Roblox in which the first pokémon I ever picked was Popplio which is where my love for the pokémon is rooted from.
There was never a dull moment whenever I'd use it during my playthrough, it did so well against some of the major bosses of the game such as the gyms, evil team, and especially the dragon type rival. Even against trainers it was weak to, I still used it.
I grew to love Primarina at a time when I was sorta new to the franchise so I wasn't even aware of the backhand this pokémon was getting by the fandom which I'd say was a good thing since I probably would have followed along with it and "hated" Popplio.
The line as a whole just hit all the marks for me as a child, Popplio was an adorable first pick and I loved seals, evolving into Brionne at first I was a bit against it but I grew to love it as it washed the competition with Bubble Beam and Disarming Voice, and when it reached Primarina I wasn't even upset in the slightest, I loved the way it looked and I didn't even register it to be particularly feminine leaning at the time (even now I still don't see it as feminine as I think others do).
And in later years when the game would be taken down and I grew to understand the fandom alot more, consuming alot more content from creators online and showing more interest in the franchise as a whole, I still held the line near and dear to my heart. Almost last year I played a copy of PBB and despite my greater knowledge of the game using other strong pokémon, Jester, my Primarina, killed it with how well it could handle any situation making it incredibly reliable, just like how it did years ago.
Didn't expect to write a whole essay on this but I think that just goes to show my passion for this line, especially when others see it in a negative light. Primarina fans rise up! >:]
Popplio was always my favorite starter of the Gen 7 bunch, and I was always confused on the amount of hate it got back in the day. Especially when the final evolution designs were revealed, and people started to hate on it more for, of course, "being a design for girls."
And not to begin a starter war, but Incineroar was always too much of a Tony the Tiger lookin' ahh anthropomorphic mon, and Decidueye's wings always looked a bit too "arm-like" and its eye design looks a bit too... "🤓" for lack of a better term. And these are my thoughts on them in a vacuum compared to _every_ other starter Pokemon.
So when the insults came in about liking a "girly mermaid clown seal," I was like, bro, all ya'll doing is inviting people to come and randomly roast the other two starters. So now, as seen from above, it is hard to navigate this topic without bringing up their flaws as well, else ditch the history of the opening months of the Gen 7 reveals.

Gen 7 as a whole is my favorite, and I always thought the gen 7 starters were the most balanced in terms of design. I even hunted for all 3 shiny starters back in ultra sun, with popplio taking the longest.

Primarina and the popplio line was the first starter i loved. And when the alolan starters were revealed i drifted to poplio more than anything.
I used to prefer decidueye, but... ive come to love primarina. My birthday, formatted properly, lines up with its dex entry, so its felt, meant to be one of my faves more and more.

As a genuine choir kid in high school when these games came out Popplio and Primarina hold a special place in my heart. The voice they gave it in the anime when it sings is flippin gorgeous
I never understood why so many people HATED Popplio. I get that Litten and Rowlet were really cool Pokémon but Popplio has way more personality out of the three and the hate feels unjustified. Primarina itself is a fantastic Pokémon in both usage in battle and in design with the only big thing I hate about it is just Gender ratio.
It really doesn't make sense that the Pokemon _literally described as a "songstress" in the dex_ has a 7:1 male:female gender ratio.

Primarina is easily my favorite water starter. It looks cute, majestic and it´s strong af. I currently have my US Primarina in my Scarlet save file and it has all the ribbons and marks she can have in all the generations, I love her so much lol
I've liked Popplio before knowing the existence of Primarina when Sun/Moon was still being announced. Alola is a neat region that I think some people slept on because of how unique and different the Alola Region was (NO gyms being one example). That and people like Z-Moves the least mechanic wise in comparison to the other existing mechanics.
Oh but I suppose the Alolan region as a whole not the focus here. Popplio is a good boi and gal, same said for the rest of their evolution line.
Simply put, the Primarina line has tied with the Trapinch line for one of absolute favorite evolutionary lines in all of Pokemon.
The poplio line is the only starter line to make me scream with delight every time I saw the next stage. They may be my second favorite starter line right behind mudkip, but it's a very close second.
When I play Pokemon Brick Bronze, I literally chose Popplio as my starters and he became one of my main pokemon for the journey, I love you Detergent

Least favourite starter? I like the Popplio line and the Quaxly line. Kinda odd how they’re the least popular water starters when Team Water won the Pokemon Splatfest in Splatoon 3.

The popplio has a special place in my heart since its what introduced me to pokemon in general and was my first started. You dont know how happy i was when my brionne evolved into this critter! The fact that it has the highest special attack of all starters so far does it so much justice

I actually was thinking it'd be cool if Popplio ended up being the potential choice for the Water starter in Legends ZA. Given its whole opera singer motif, perhaps it could get a regional form that's Water/Ghost type as a homage to Phantom of the Opera.

Primarina's one of my favourite Pokemon and definitely top 5 in starters. I was a part of the Popplio defense squad. Due to the SM anime I've now come to like Rowlet more but at the time, Popplio was the runaway favourite because of me defending it. I really like the whole line (I think Brionne's official art does it a massive disservice) and don't really care if a starter leans to one gender more than the other as long as the design is cool, which it is. It has an a very funny Z-Move with it slowly pushing a water nuke to the oppsing Pokemon and the singing/siren theme in general is executed very well in my opinion. I'm not gonna say "leave it alone" because I accept that any subjective reason (that isn't a straight up lie) to dislike a Pokemon is valid. I like it, and that's all that really matters to me.

As someone who chose Litten (Cuz i love cats) and Torracat who outright became my favorite Alola Pokemon, Incineroar grew on me over time, but PRIMARINA?? Chef's Kiss!💙💞 and became one of my favorite Final Evolution Starter Pokemon!
My second pokemon game ever was Sun. I picked popplio bc I like water types. Primarina was definitely the MVP of my team. I have loved it ever since. Great design, great stats, great movepool. It really deserves more love. ❤

I will also that that in terms of the main story, primarina is really good in gen 7, especially in the ultra games since popplio gets access to Icy Wind very early and its such a good move to carry for a very long time, plus water/fairy is just an amazing type combo both defensively and offensively
Still feel bad for the brutality against Lana’s Primarina during the battle with Guzma. Almost surprised that made into an episode.
I used a primarina in the battle tower in sword and shield. It was so, so strong. I spent months just clicking moonblast or hypervoice. I'll always love this pokemon due to how much i used it. Primarina also recently won an important official vgc tournament in the senior division. so yeah, strong it is.

In my opinion, I think if primarina got the same treatment as decidueye did in PLA, it would be very fitting. The gen 6 final evolutions are based on RPG classes, and primarina would fit in perfectly as a bard.
Back when they were first getting revealed, I was team Litten. Now, I did stick to picking Litten for my playthrough of Sun. However, seeing the hate Popplio got, I found it ridiculous and became a proud supporter of the line. And while I still really enjoy the Litten line, Popplio rose to be a favourite of mine over Litten since using it in my Ultra Sun playthrough. Brionne is a pleasant surprise I really like, certainly one of the cutest fun loving mid evo starters. And Primarina I really didn't care that it looked a bit more feminine, they nailed it with the balance of mermaid and seal, and it's quite a beautiful look, and is quite fun to use in battles.
Primarina and their other evolution line are fantastic.
I'm so happy that I decided to go with Popplio for my playthroughs on both Moon and Ultra Moon.

Primarina is easily my favorite of Alola's fully evolved starters, and the same is true for the entire Popplio line. It's also one of my overall favorite starter Pokémon and Pokémon period. The design, the typing, and the learnable moves are all great.
For me, as my Starter Avatar Cycle went to Water in Gen 7, I had hopes that its Water Starter would be something I would like, and to my enjoyment, I did end up loving Popplio and its evolutions, in a way vindicating my initial choice for Popplio. Primarina ended up among my Top 10 of Alola, which isn't normal for Starter final evolutions.

And then Popplio became the best Pokémon to speedrun both the Standard and Ultra versions of Gen 7. Primarina alone can literally solo standard SM until you get your box art if you played your cards right.
I was unfortunately one of those who didn't exactly care for this line of Pokémon but my respect has skyrocketed for them when doing speed replays to soft reset for Poipole and Type: Null in less than 10 hours
