  • Fern Care Tips: The Easiest Of All for Rabbit's Foot Fern. Blue Star Fern. Kangaroo Fern. Indoor gardening
In this video I will share my favorite ferns in our indoor plant collection. I have always liked ferns for their structure, growth habits, frond patterns, and their unique air filtering properties.
Over the years, I have narrowed down my favorites to (still) more than a few. Today, I am sharing with you the easiest care possible for the following ferns:
    - Rabbit's Foot Fern
    - Blue Star Fern
    - Kangaroo Fern
These ferns grow from rhizomes. I covered on this video their unique properties and how caring for ferns goes down to knowing the care for rhizomes as well.
I hope you like this video, share it with your friends and most importantly, like the content enough, that it caused you to SUBSCRIBE to Acorn Hill.
Let's all learn something new. Welcome to Acorn Hill.

I was given a rabbit's foot I've never had luck with ferns so I was immediately intimidated and for good reason. I repotted him and at first he perked up and started getting his color back (he was very faded) but now his tips are turning brown and certain leaves are shriveled😣
I hoping its because I've got him in direct sunlight mabye its burning so I will move him.
Thank you so much your videos are so informative I'm subscribing so I don't lose you😊

So very kind of you to be a part of the channel! I used to not like ferns as well. They are very unique in their own ways and growing habits. Keep your rabbit ferns moist and in a cool spot. They don’t like “wet feet”. So apart from burning from a more heated location, you may want to check the growing medium it’s in. Allow for good drainage in the soil. Good luck with your rabbit’s foot and hope it continues to thrive. 🤞🏼😊

Thank God I found this video! I hope you get this comment okay. Thank you for explaining this so well. Please help me, I revived a Kangaroo fern for Christmas. I had to google what it was because my husband saw it's "stunning beauty" and knew I would LOVE IT...but it was the last one, and it no longer had its care tag. And I'm scared that I am gonna kill it. I have it hanging right next to a sky light, should I move it, because its starting to get brown leaves. I water it like any other house plant (leaving it in the sink to fully drain) is that wrong? How does it like its water? I do plan on getting a cool mist humidifier, and I mist I frequently now. But I live in Arizona... driest state in the country, what else does it need? I love the cups of water in the Rabbits foot fern idea, should I do that? Please help me not kill this beautiful plant. It was a special gift and I love it a lot. Please and thank you.

Here’s my advise with your kangaroo fern query:
I’d recommend moving it away from direct sunlight. Find a spot in the house that’s got indirect light. As far as watering, you’re doing it right let it drain well. Never let it sit In a pool of water.
Make sure you place it away from any heat source or vents as well.
      I hope this helps 😄

I’d say it’s not a bad idea to get a small humidifier. They’ll definitely like this condition. Increasing the humidity by houseplants can be had several ways: from placing pots on top of pebbles or stone in a saucer filled with water to even as simple as placing several cups with water around the plants. I’ve found them to be useful as well.

I just picked up the blue star fern, I'm veryyy excited about her she's in a small pot but in great condition, iv been very nervous to try a fern but couldn't resist. Should I bottom water to avoid death from water touching the risomes ? Also, do they grow outside the plant pot like the other one u were talking about ??

    • @ACORNHILL
      @ACORNHILL  Рік тому +2

Moist but well drained is the type of soil I’ve had them in lately. I know it’s a misnomer of a soil combination but it works. They live in the tropics and rainforests so a good dousing of rainwater (what happens in the rainforest) that drains very quickly works well for my blue star so far. Get excited with your new plant. I am sure you’ll succeed. If something happens otherwise, count that as a valuable lesson in the exciting journey called gardening. Cheers! 🙋🏻‍♂️😀

Hello there. As these are indoor plants. I suggest being very in-tune with the plants. Some of them do need frequent watering. The ubiquitous finger in the soil method holds true for most of them. I water frequently during the growing months and hold back on the watering during winter when some of them hibernate. 😃. Hope this helps. What kind of plants do you keep indoors?
