I have a kangaroo fern & it’s growing well. I put it in a coco pot like yours. On certain plants I have cut some of the bottom of the roots & others I have cut slits like you did. I think it depends on the plant & they’ve all done well. You did a great job on yours. Show us later how it’s growing. Happy planting!!! 12:51
Any update on how this went? I have the exact same plant in the exact same original planter even. I'm going to need to repot it in the summer and was looking for how I should go about that.
It really does look so much better in the coconut lined pot. I am about to attempt to free a super crammed kangaroo paw from a plastic pot...we will see!
I just got one bigger than this in the same size pot for $13... thanks for the video. I see I am going to have to set aside an afternoon for repotting!
Thanks for this! But mine was literally 4 times as big as that one, and had maybe 15-20 big hairy roots tangled around the outside of the pot. It took a lot of trimming of those roots (and the fronds growing from them) to make it possible to put it back into a bit larger pot. I'm going to see if the cut roots will grow in a bucket of water and I'll try and start new plants. I, too, love my plant and hope it's ok! Talking to it a lot. :-)
I have a healthy thriving one and decided to buy a discount tragic one from Lowes a while back. It looks like it had been severely underwatered, then drowned. I evened out the watering and trimmed away dead/rotted rhizomes and leaves, but it's not been growing at all. I'm repotting tonight! Wish me luck 🤞
Great video, Aika!👍🏽 All that work was definitely worth it - it looks amazing in that planter!👌🏽 Maybe a future video could include care tips, pointers, things you’ve learned, etc. as your plants all look so healthy. I really enjoyed this video - now I want a fern which I’ve never had.😀
I definitely cant wait to do an update video about this plant. And i'll see about doing a more general plant care video that can hopefully have information other videos don't already have. Thanks for the suggestion!!
Aika Watanabe I hope your fern is adjusting well - I look forward to the update. I’m going to transplant my Monstera soon, feeling a tad nervous lol. & Definitely no pressure about a care video, just a suggestion. You obviously have great ideas!👌🏽✌🏽
I never thought about repotting mine in one of those baskets and liners it needs repotted. I have one of those already I know what I'm going to be doing after work today.
What if I just rescued some of this fern from my grandma and it has NO roots? Only one leave on an arial root? Literally 2 separate small arial roots, with 1 leaf on them each. POOR THINGS I wanna make it work ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I want to repot it in a coconut coir planter like yours, but I was worried about the water soaking the floor when I water it??? Do you just let it flow to the floor when you water yours or do you have a bucket underneath on the floor ????
yea, like tonya said, I was watering mine in the shower. however, I just repotted it into a plastic hanging pot with a water dish attached to it (from Home Depot) and it’s enjoying it a lot and it’s a little easier when it comes to watering. I still do it in the tub, but I don’t have to wait for all the water to stop dripping like I did with the coconut. I hope this helped!
I’ve since moved, but right now it’s in an eastern window. I actually think even the direct eastern (summer) light is a bit much for it, so if you don’t get a ton a direct light it will probably enjoy the indirect light.
HAHAHA whehn I removed mine to another pot iwas in the same dilemma. the roots are so tight and strong, and I was scared to break it but did end up splitting it into two after cleamin the soild with water and spreading it. I got two parts of it
I like the mat pot because it allows so much air to circulate throughout the dirt/roots. And since this plant is an epiphyte they really don't want any compact or dense soil. It's just a little messy when you want to water it. I take mine in the shower and let it drain after i shower it.
Mine was the same way from home depot. I agree, I don't know how it was living and still so green! I did the same thing you did so cheers! I bet they will do fine. Waiting on your update.
Wow I never saw these in home depot! youre lucky! I hope yours is doing well. I did a last minute update on it in my last video (house plant tour and update in july). Check it out!
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I didn't do much to the roots, but this plant is absolutely loving the repot. There is constant new growth. I'll have to do an update soon!
apparently you can cut a vine that has a node (the spot where the leaf comes out of) and root it in water. I tried it accidentally when a vine snapped off, and it worked.
As an experienced plant keeper, I see no reason for the young lady to flinch so much. If you want a smaller plant, trim the roots, it will be fine. If you're ok with the size, just put it in a bigger pot just like that: no need to push your fingers into anything. Just plonk it in the bigger pot and fill the empty space with more soil, after you pull the rhizomes on the sides up and carefully weave them into the frond petioles at the level (the same level as the plant is overall) they originate.
I wish I had seen this before I repotted my kangaroo. You did a good job I KNOW it’s happy!

I would love to see an update on how your Kangaroo Fern did in it's new basket!

wow what a great price! I hope it’s doing well!
Enjoyed your video lots of good information to help with my plants. More energy with information and less on drama would be nice.
Please post an update! I'm dying to know if you saved it!
Sorry for the late response! I did a quick update on it in my last houseplant tour video. it's at the very end!
I do have this one and has grown up a lot and it's so shiny and green that I love it so very much
thank you so much for this great video.it was really informative.as i just bought myself a kangaroo paw fern.i love ferns.they are beautiful.
i agree! every time i see a fern i want to get it. what fern is your favorite?
Wow, that baby had some crazy roots! Looks beautiful in its new home.
Thank you!! I still can't believe the roots on it. I'll definitely be making an update video in a couple months to show how it's doing!
I was about to order this plant. Thanks for your video.

Oh boy I'm scared to do mine now. I want to wait until the spring.
mine ended up totally fine by the way! I hope your repotting was successful!
I just got a poor beat up kangaroo fern from Walmart...4 dollars it is completely traumatized I’m going to try my hardest to help it
how’s it doing??? I hope my video helped!
I never thought about repotting mine in one of those baskets and liners it needs repotted. I have one of those already I know what I'm going to be doing after work today.
how’d the repotting go??
How did this fern adapt to her new home?
So beautiful!!!!
Thank you!!

Thanks for the information because I have one that I’m repotting tomorrow!!!
Good luck!!

At the end of the video she said she is going to water it in the shower. I do the same. Take it down each time you water

Great job! Did it survive?
absolutely! it’s probably doubled in size. recently put it in a new hanging pot. one day I’ll get around to a video update.
I just got kangaroo fern, watching this gives me courage to try repotting mine. And the idea of a mat pot is interesting. Pretty fibrous huh? 🙂

Hows the fern doing in its new coconut planter?
really good! I had to repot it recently. it’s in a plastic hanging pot now but still very happy. one day I’ll do an update!
Soak it.It looks happy. It’s going to make it.
I really love the lauae "Kangaroo Paw" fern. It smells just like the Maile vine.
I never noticed a smell, but I also don't know what a maile vine is. ha! I'll have to investigate into this. Thanks for sharing!
How is this Kangaroo Paw fern doing now?
it’s huge and happy!
I'm dealing with this exact thing! O soaked it water and medium did not break apart. I'm afraid I'm gonna hurt it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I didn't do much to the roots, but this plant is absolutely loving the repot. There is constant new growth. I'll have to do an update soon!
how is the kangaroo fern doing ???
wonderfully!! in my last houseplant tour video i do a quick update at the very end if you want to see it
How do you propagate this type of plant?
apparently you can cut a vine that has a node (the spot where the leaf comes out of) and root it in water. I tried it accidentally when a vine snapped off, and it worked.
I moved mine exactly how you did and the entire thing just died.... I was so sad
Just pulled my fern out and discovered the same issue 😂 what are these greenhouses doing to these poor plants!!
素晴らしい。
Good job! I would trim the dangling green aerial roots.
😍😍😍👍

Holy shit
yea. very serious.
Holy roots!!!! 😳
I an sorry, but you are cute. There, I’ve said it. Thanks for the info. I will now attempt to repot my kangaroo fern.
How are you so adorable!?
dawwwww😌
