RTSS has an inbuilt Reflex for non Reflex games. Setup > Enable frame limiter and select Reflex in the drop bar. The game will then auto lock FPS as if Reflex were enabled in game.
Yea is quite different than what i use , make sure u set all nvidia setting to highest performance available, thread optimization on , g-sync off and all afiliated commands ( that blocks the fps at your monitor H refresh rate ex 165h monitor 165fps max in game , that could cause a drastic decrease on the power used , if this do not helps getting ur gpu usage back go and change the GPU setting to maximum performance on Register Edit … check on internet how to do it 😢
One thing to note is if you're already using frame limiters like RTSS (RivaTuner) to limit your FPS below your monitor's refresh rate, having the VSync off will only introduce input lags and thus should be always kept off regardless of your gpu. The guideline should be: FreeSync and RTSS cap below refresh rate? = VSync off FreeSync without FPS capping? = VSync on
Is it definitely not useless when playing CS 2 or Valorant? Esports players usually fix fps at 400, but I won't have such fps when updating the 240 screen. In another video, you said that for competitive games, you need to turn off everything related to G-sync and VRR, doing this through Nvidia inspector... However, they did not say what to do with Adaptive sync, who has it turned on on the monitor (I always have it on, for example, because it is always too steamy to switch this mode). Or will the method from this video be more universal? + The question remains about the new video about overdrive setting, then why is it at all?) If adaptive sync is turned off in this way. It seems to me that you contradict yourself.
6:00 Is it better to do this or use blurbusters recommendation of 3fps below refresh rate? For example, on a 144hz display, should you: 1. Cap fps at 138? (according to the chart) 2. Cap fps at 141? (According to blurbusters) Which is better?
Both are fine, but I would personally set it a little lower to be sure it never reaches your max refresh rate. Neither is "better" to use, just comes down to what fps cap keeps your game from potentially reaching your max refresh
Is there a reason the FPS cap is set so low for higher refresh monitors? I know you said it would never output more than the screen can handle but 7FPS for a 144hz monitor seems a bit excessive. I was under the impression that -3fps cap was sufficient. I would really like to see where this FPS cap data came from.
You CAN go -3 under refresh, but I tend to follow the Nvidia caps which are auto applied when using ULLM or Reflex. Having it slightly lower than -3 also ensures you will rarely have fps jump over it, potentially leading to that V-SYNC latency increase :)
@@Panjno Ah, it's an nvidia recommendation. -3 is still acceptable unless you continue to get tearing and the reflex numbers are a baseline "everyone" recommendation. Got it. Appreciate the clarification.
In some cases, changing refresh display rate can help. In Battlefield I had a issue, the fps was dropped and game lost on fluency (Freesync - ON). Display had 165Hz and fps was setting on 60. Change from 165Hz to 120Hz (60fps), solved the problem.

Where are the tests and comparisons? Always thought that v-sync and enabled “low latency” mode in nvidia panel adds latency and it was turned off. So, on default settings where v-sync and low latency is turned off - nvidia monitoring shows latency around 5.8 - 6.6ms. But when I turned on v-sync + ultra low latency in nvidia settings and entered the game, the value was already 13.8-14.7ms. And I didn't forget to do the other points from the video, I just didn't describe them

Very useful video, thank you. But gsync + vsync on + ultra low latency in some games on Vulkan does not work. If I put a global fps limiter in the same nсp together with all this, will it give some negative effect, additional input lag or something like that? thanks for ALL your work panjno. one question: i always thought that uncapping your fps will give you the lowest latency, but at the cost of screen tearing (if you are well over your monitors refresh rate). but you mentioned that by capping fps, you can decrease latency as well as lower power & temps. how's that?
If a game doesn't support reflex, if your GPU usage is 99-100% it often leads to a big increase in render latency. With a slight fps cap (or in this case, capped with g-sync+ultra low latency) it could slightly reduce GPU usage leading to a decent reduction in render latency in games which do NOT support reflex yet :)
Something I don’t get (Nvidia) is why is there the need to cap FPS? the v sync and ultra response time is already doing it directly from the control panel

@panjno for nvidia: if my game supports nvidia reflex should i also enable ultra low latency from the control panel? or did you mean that ultra low latency is the second best option if the game doesn’t support reflex?
When enabling both the nvidia reflex overrides the ultra low latency without any issues because reflex is superior, and if a game does not have nvidia reflex in the settings the ultra low latency will be selected and will lower latency without any issues
reflex on / on + boost is an in game only setting , ultra low latency mode in the control panel is the on / ultra setting (same thing but in game is better if game has it) , if your game doesnt support ULLM (DX12 games) then you'll need to cap it 3-4 under monitor htz , or what you can get 95% of the time
The VRR latency depends on the refresh rate of the monitor, the higher the Hz the less latency. On a 240Hz monitor your looking at a 1ms difference which is nothing.
If I run in borderless is that still considered a full screen option for gsync to trigger with the full screen only option ticked? I tried the other option and get flickering in single player games when I drop below 105 fps
Panjno, thanks for the guide but I have some confusion about it even I did watch some of your previous video. AMD GPU user here. 1) I thought if we have G-Sync/FreeSync, we do not need to turn on Vsync since the former is better?👀 Does it cause any conflict if turn on both together? 2) Capping FPS, I remember we can just cap it 2-3 FPS below the monitor refresh rate? This time the one you showed, some of them are 3, 7 or more FPS difference.. 3) Framerate Limiter, I remember you suggest use the Nvidia/AMD software to do it, otherwise use RTSS is better than the rest of the method, also avoid using in-game one?
I cap my framerate in horizon forbidden west with RTSS and it still goes between 74-75 all the time. Is that normal to occur? Happens in all my games btw for the most part. I can feel it though which annoys me (in forbidden west since it’s at 75 compared to my normal cap of 90-95). As for latency, reflex in that game introduces latency according to Nvidia GeForce performance overlay so maybe it’s just bugged in that game? I need a video about frametimes cause feels like mine r always worse than average. (I’ve done all the basic pc stuff like driver updates ect ect too btw). Can’t stand traversal stutter in UE5 games but in every game I cap I can feel it move from 74-75 which shouldt be the case right?
Another question, if I wanna utilize G-SYNC but only to set it on only 1 game, do I just implement the settings in the "Program Settings" instead of the global?

Great video Panjno!. Ive a question. You said that Ultra low latency limits the FPS automatically. But after that, you said to limit the FPS with NCP or RTSS, etc. Does not redundant doing that?
Thanks!
should i use gsync on competetive shooters like cs, bc as far as i know more fps are always better even if your monitor cant display it, or am i wrong about this?
I have a freesync monitor with hdmi rather than optical port. Im hoping it still works even though the control panel settings for gsync dont appear unless i use advanced nvidia settings from the extra app.
i have a benq 2411k 144hz monitor . as you know it doesnt support g-sync or freesync but it has DyAc tecnology and i always set it to premium while im playing game ( i playing pubg steam ) - for this monitor do you still recommend to cap my fps on 138 ,144 or unlimited ?
are these settings specially the g sync for gaming ?
while am streaming on the same pc ? 2080it
What should be the fps cap limit for 200Hz monitor?
what abt apex legends? double buffered triple buffered or dynamic?
I dont know what im doing wrong, i did exactly as the video but my screen goes black for 2 sec each time i play with rhe G-sync on
I have 4090 mobile - 64gb ram - i9 13900hx - 480Hz
Using exactly same presets as you mentioned except that i have Vsync off and game is capped to 450fps inside NCP, game fps and frame times are still stuttering at certain situations
Frame time around 2.1 and spikes to 8.0 or even 16
Could this be related to that game doesn’t support high fps ?
Could there be a way to fix ?
do i need riva tuner if i did everything you said for nvidia gpu in nvidia control panel?
No need, it's handy for fine tuning if you would like to, but the Nvidia setup should mean you never need to bother with other settings
@@Panjno ok i mainly just like to use it for monitoring anyways. thanks panjno ! i been following you and your guides for years. no problems at all, youre simply the best doing it in my opinion. keep up the great work 👏🏽
I’m on on AMD 7900 XTX and a Gigabyte 165hz monitor when I turn free sync on my monitor and in my adrenaline software I get bad monitor flickering would you recommended I just leave it off on one of the two?
turn it on on all monitors when i did that the flickering stopped for me i have a 6600 xt
Does this help with low level GPUs like RTX3050
@panjno for nvidia: if my game supports nvidia reflex should i also enable ultra low latency from the control panel? or did you mean that ultra low latency is the second best option if the game doesn’t support reflex?
When enabling both the nvidia reflex overrides the ultra low latency without any issues because reflex is superior, and if a game does not have nvidia reflex in the settings the ultra low latency will be selected and will lower latency without any issues
I turned nvidia vsync to on and reflex to ultra but rtss is showing fps way above my refresh rate, is this intended?
reflex on / on + boost is an in game only setting , ultra low latency mode in the control panel is the on / ultra setting (same thing but in game is better if game has it) , if your game doesnt support ULLM (DX12 games) then you'll need to cap it 3-4 under monitor htz , or what you can get 95% of the time
So all the talk about VRR causing latency is not true? I may need to try this out.
My game has reflex + boost. should i enable boost or just reflex. Also my FPS has dropped at least 40 by turning on Gsync any tips.
Is it worth to use those nvidia settings if I drop below 138 with FPS? I prefer to have both latency and smoothness (diablo 4 on high with 3060)
what if i don't have g-sync but my monitor has freesync premium and I am using a laptop with rtx 4050?
Panjno, thanks for the guide but I have some confusion about it even I did watch some of your previous video. AMD GPU user here.
1) I thought if we have G-Sync/FreeSync, we do not need to turn on Vsync since the former is better?👀
Does it cause any conflict if turn on both together?
2) Capping FPS, I remember we can just cap it 2-3 FPS below the monitor refresh rate? This time the one you showed, some of them are 3, 7 or more FPS difference..
3) Framerate Limiter, I remember you suggest use the Nvidia/AMD software to do it, otherwise use RTSS is better than the rest of the method, also avoid using in-game one?
Should V-Sync be on in game as well?
No, only on NCP. Disable v-sync in game.
you recommend gsync for playing cs2?
Exactly. If you want to use G-sync to one game, go to "Program settings", add the game and "monitor technology" option, select "gs-ync compatible".
@Panjno HELP the new GeForce Driver 565.90 has broke control panel, everytime my computer restarts its resets the color settings to default.
I have free sync enabled on my monitor but in my intel arc control it says not supported (i'm on laptop with a hdmi cabel connected to my monitor)
I get freezing every 10 seconds for about 1 second, its annoying i cant work out why, its when i have gsync on set up properly. I have 4090 14900k.
Dont you get less FPS with V sync on ?
should I open vrr in windows?
Yes. You need to enable on windows.
you are gold! long live!
Can you make a optimization video on once human?
Thanks for the Guide as always very useful, i have a quick question tho,if possible to help.
Using a Nvidia 4070, and was wondering if i hit over 300+ fps in games like cs2,Valorant, etc.
But the frames are not stable, would you recommend to use as described the G-sync or simply Lock the FPS?(using a 144hz 2560x1440p monitor.)
It’s a CPU bound game
If my monitor is 144hz what should the FPS cap be in games that don't have Nvidia reflex setting?
If u play cs or fps games mame sure you do not have g-sync ( that block the fps to be the monitor H ) set fps max 0 to have maximum and u should have around 240 -300 to benefit of lower latency at 250fps with 165h should be a smooth experience ❤ for 240h a 400fps will be a minimum to run smooth
@@mihnea2.0turbo98 what about just generic story games etc? Like on Black Myth Wukong what would the cap be?
@@Burnssy97 it should be ok with g-sync for story mode games offline some may work better some not , on those kind of games u do not need that much latency and performance si ce you re not connected to a server against others , I recommend you to try half an hour with and without , check if u have stutters while gaming and how it fells smoother
@@mihnea2.0turbo98 thanks buddy
Why'd you take down your old rust legacy videos? miss those days.
How I get the fps counter to read on every game…? Some games it don’t show
My RTSS crashes some of my most played games like hunt showdown, it doesn't like afterburner/RTSS at all and I don't know what to do about it
my monitor says adaptive sync but i don’t see g-sync on nvidea control panel?
does stutter fix if i turn on vsync in nvidia control panel? I'm running rtx 3050 with vsync on165 fps monitor cap in-game on cyberpunk 2077
Hey panjno, I was wondering what my fps should be capped at with a 260hz refresh rate
If you've got an Nvidia GPU, using low latency ultra or reflex will auto cap if for you
Hello @panjno i have nvidia GPU 4070 Super RTX and my monitor is Samsung G60SD 360hz and i play league of legends. i set all the settings that you have mentioned in the video but in-game my FPS is capped at 225 FPS how can i fix this issue?
Thank you.
In NCP, search for the option "low latency mode" and change it for "on" instead "ultra."
is it good to use gsync with frame generation?
Can you make a video for laptop gpu optimization and rust optimization please?
What about in game do we turn that on
Don't g-sync add latency?
for amd on apex would I keep enhanced sync on in radeon control panel and in apex would I use dynamic vsync?
was wondering the same things
what about 480hz monitor?
When I got done installing all the drivers for nvidia, it changed the sound of my voice into a chipmunk and I don’t know how to fix it
I reccomend smoking 20 cigarettes a day
Then don't talk like a chipmunk
Yo panjno canu make a deadlock fps boost video
I dont know why when i use g sync and when drop 1-5 fps my game sttuter... 144hz rtx 4060 ti ryzen 5 7600x... Please help what i need to do...
G-sync: ON
V-sync: ON (Only in NCP)
Low latency Mode: ON
Maximum FPS: 141
Select the game and add it to "Program configuration" sheet and select "power management mode" to "Prefer maximum Performance".
Try that config.
what about Adaptive Sync ?
can someone explain to me why when I turn on vrr, my screen flickers a lot when I tab in and out of obs
Panjo thanks for the hard work mate keep it up ^^
M a lot confused about valorant , should i use it or no ? many ppl told me to not use it , i really appreciate ur work and i hope u answer me
Thanks a lot
ej Panjno my monitor is 280hz what my fps need to be amd 7800 xt?
how about 60hz monitor?
For 170 hz monitor?
vsync on vs fast?
V-sync On.
