    All I've used the control panel for was when a game didn't have frame limiter so I put the maximum framrate to 200 instead of running it uncapped at 900+FPS and 99% utilisation constantly. It was also useful to turn on/off Vsync in some games where it caused problems with either jittering or heavy input delays.

    • @shivamverma7151
      @shivamverma7151 2 місяці тому +7

      yes same here, i use the amd radeon software (amd equivalent of nvidia control panel) to limit my fps to 60 on GTA vice city, because the in-game one limits it to 30 and when uncap it runs at 500 which has issues like cars are always braking themselves and you can push cars by running into them.

      I do the same, I put NVC Global limit to 144 to match my refresh, then I use RTSS per-app limit of 60-144 (usually 90 FPS) to tweak individual games.
      This keeps menu FPS below 2000 and makes sure my frametimes are very tight, usually around 12-17ms no matter what I'm playing. I stopped messing with NVC settings years ago but things like DLDSR, resolution and video color settings are all good to tweak and setup to your preference. And as you said it's useful to force stop Vsync or ensure 16x anisotropic gets applied if in-game doesn't include it, etc
      In my experience Unity games are the easiest to "optimize" with ini edits, thread priority, etc But none of that is accomplished in control panel.

    The only good return I have had from Nvidia Control Panel was where I had severe screen tearing due to a mismatch between refresh ratio of my monitor (144hz) and the arbitrary FPS lock (60 FPS) I set for Forza Horizon 5 through Nvidia Control Panel (You cannot use 30/60/120 locks in the game with a 144hz monitor, it will be 48/72/144). Disabling the trilinear optimization from Nvidia Control Panel fixed the tearing issue for me in that game.

    Before I get my very 1st NVIDIA card, I used APU chipset (Ryzen 5 3400G) to play and do various things (but mostly playing). I followed various video tutorials on how to optimized the Vega 11 in performance, but all failed until a one video tutorial that shown the modded version of the adrenaline, it run smoother than the official adrenaline software, but sometimes it worsen the issue. (It was called R.ID driver). The point was it's better to just use the driver itself and not use the additional program for the sake of optimization, because sometimes seeking for the best of best performance of your hardware will only lead to more issue and/or problem.
    Anyway, great video it's informative and clear.

Shadercache won't impact much but when set to low amounts can cause stutters, you can set it to 10gb, or if you have a hard drive with lower capacity (like 250 gb or 120gb) set the shadercache to a lower amount

    • @Tryptaminedm
      @Tryptaminedm 2 місяці тому

      @@natto6157You are confusing Reflex (in-game only settings) with the low latency mode setting found in Nvidia control panel. In every game that supports Reflex, you should 100% have it enabled as it is by far our best option and it overrides the NVCP setting. HOWEVER, what most of these idiots always seem to recommend is to set Low latency mode in NVCP to "ultra" which INCREASES latency instead of decreasing it in MOST games, because it is completely bugged, and simultaneously decreases your FPS by altering the render queue. Look up videos of actual latency testing with advanced hardware on YT - you will see. Sometimes it will literally 2x input latency. Instead, set low latency mode to "on", vertical sync to OFF (increases latency), G-sync enabled, and frame cap in-game (#1 choice) or per individual game in NVCP settings (#2 choice) to a comfortable FPS that your system can sustain without stuttering which will happen usually when it hits 100% GPU usage even at 100+ FPS. In single player games, just frame cap to where your GPU is below 100% usage like 90% of the time, and 100% of the time for competitive games. I autistically self-tested every setting mentioned here, it's definitely the best configuration 9/10 times.

    I got like 3fps more using the ultra performance setting in COD MW2.
    It’s definitely for older cards and applications.
    On the home screen you can actually choose to not use NCP settings. Theres like 3 choices. Use the games settings, Use nvidia 3D settings or choise a quality setting from a slider.
    I think it only applies to the graphics settings as gsync was still enabled when I selected use game settings so it seemed.

    The really best and useful parameter in nvidia control panel is VSync. There is a multiple modes, and best one is fast mode. If you don't have display with dynamic Hz, it will remove desync without framerate drop! But be careful, it may broke some elements in game, for example, i got unworking screens (ingame world assets) in Atomic Heart. It was really hard to find out why it is not working

      Also nvidia control panel may help on old laptops with GPU and integrated graphics. You should click RMB on game shortcut or launcher and select "run with high performance nvidia processor". Very helpful in minecraft for example.

    I've had more issues with frame pacing and stuttering on old games, in which case it can sometimes make a difference. But on a modern game, enable Vsync and look at other areas of your system that could be causing issues.

    Few of of the basic settings like graphics fidelity, refresh rate and the only options one needs to look at the control panel to make sure modern hardware is not under utilized. Laptops also have to ensure the power options and profile which can flip when running on battery mode.
    Noticeable performance dips comes with graphics drivers. I always keep a basic stable DCH driver and only update when some new game is displaying some issue.
    PC gaming has become a bit of chore these days lol.

    One thing I have found to be useful is to gate maximum frame rate [Riva Tuner, but you can set it in nVidia control panel.] I have an old PC, so it helps keep ETS2 running at a smooth 60 FPS.
    This advice was from one of the smaller, humble UK channels. [RandomGaminginHD]. Also, MSI do a good 20 minute guide on their own Afterburner which is worth seeing.

    I could write an essay on how this is the best 3 min video someone has created. I am someone who enjoys tinkering with settings and benchmarking to see the difference (I love fact checking), and it absolutely annoys the hell out of me how every time I just simply install a driver, turn on DLSS Quality, cap the frame rate to my monitor (or half cause I can use Frame Gen) and I have perfect performance, low temps, low latency, and zero issues. I do not open Control Panel, I don't tinker with Rebar, no registry edits, none of that other crap.

    If anythinf, control panel settings smooth out your experience, whether its stuttering or artifacts. Like he says, we use to use the control panel because games back in the day were less complex and we were able to control settings at a driver level. We have come a long way that the reason I use the control panel is make a game work properly, not to have a huge increase in FPS, if theres any increase at all.

    The only few things that work in the Control panel and Profile inspector is the vsync ( which works on all directx games), Force Texture in Ram instead of the vram( works for only directx9 games). Anisotropic filtering works on a few directx games( tested with ninja gaiden master collection). Any texture setting in both panels(Nvidia control panel and Profile Inspector) Works only with opengl and vulkan. And also Memory buffering in Nvidia Profile profile inspector, which stores by-prodcuts into the ram temporary when the vram is getting full, is what I can confirm-working inside these panels. Most of the rest are obsolete. If you really need to tweak nvidia for performance test then I recommend reading the *.inf graphics driver file. It contains a lot of vallid tweaks to try; Eg: pruning mode, texture conpression and more. Sorry for my bad english.

    Of course don’t forget to enable Gsync in the control panel. Vsync and frame rate limiter used with gsync is also worth it for the ultra smooth tear free experience in my opinion except for super competitive games where you actually care about the latency (I can’t tell the difference in latency with it off but I sure can see the tearing and that is very distracting and makes your framerate look way lower than it is). Other than that there isn’t much of a reason to touch the control panel again.

    There are some games that are not optimized that really benefit from these configurations. Like Tarkov, which is poorly optimized, on standard settings you get about 30 fps on a 3090/ryzen 9 combo, but by correcting some things in nvidia control pannel and windows it goes up to 240 fps.

    Most of the time I only need nvidia control panel for : gsync, vsync, max frame, and resolution / hz settings. Maybe performance mode and now RTX HDR and things will be useful in the new beta app. But yea it’s not really about increasing performance (as much as getting most out of your display). It’s about doing settings to match up well with your monitor or how you’re playing a game. We probably only need 5 settings most of the time.

    • @gonozal8_962
      @gonozal8_962 Місяць тому +1

      I feel like vsync just kills some FPS (like 10-20%) for no real gain, especially because the difference between the fully loaded frame and the succeeding partial frame gets lower the more FPS there are

    • @Ray-dl5mp
      @Ray-dl5mp Місяць тому +1

      @@gonozal8_962 yes I am not using vsync currently and definitely loving it. Yes the input lag reduction and having a high refresh rate monitor seems to make vsync not necessarily and just a net positive to not use it. Unless tearing really bugs someone but again I don’t notice it much on a high refresh rate monitor I’m using.
