- The ALL NEW Kia Seltos is here and ready to dominate the small SUV segment. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 that is producing 146HP & mated to a CVT transmission. On the outside the Seltos takes some styling cues from the larger Telluride. It's front fascia is unique to the USA market. On the inside you will be blown away by how much room there is with great finishes and lots of tech. Is the 2021 Kia Seltos S the small SUV value that's worth buying?

I don’t understand why people care about a dash area being soft to the touch. I’ve personally been driving for around 15 years, and the only time I ever touched the dash is when I’m cleaning it. I just don’t understand why this is an issue. Great review as always though 👍

Hard material cracks, soft generally doesn't.
I think plastic rattles after a while too where leather wouldn’t. I’m not sure lol
There are varieties of people that like to mount stuff to the dash, which is easier with a hard plastic or gloss dash compared to a soft dash. For example, using a suction mount for a GoPro wouldn’t be optimal on a soft dash, which is why he had to use it on the passenger window in this case.

I appreciate your review of this S trim. Most videos on UA-cam are for the higher trim packages with the turbo and DCT transmission. Great to hear the basic 2.0L motor and CVT gets the job done for basic driving.

Prior to purchasing my 2021 Telluride, my wife purchased a Seltos S, white with the Cherry Black roof. She loves it and I must say I am extremely impressed with the fit and finish quality! Sue it doesn't have many of the options and leather the SX has but she didn't want a payment over $270.00, done! I'm 6 foot and find the seats really comfortable and it rides really well for the size and price point. Not to mention, she goes almost two weeks on a tank of gas, of course she works about 10 miles away. This is what lead me to looking at the Telluride for my SUV. Kia keeps hitting home runs for sure!

My hubby bought me a 2021 Kia Seltos SX. Best vehicle I ever owned and drove. Excellent handling and super comfortable. I got the limited edition Starburst yellow. I love hows its sporty and luxurious without the big price tag. Absolutely love it.

When you mentioned about the Indian Seltos I had to Google it. I think the Indian front fascia looks better. They do the same thing with the European Sportage where it's sticks out from the lower part. Did KIA really thought that North Americans will off road their SUVs?

Like yourself, I think I prefer the front end Korea, India, Australia, and probably the rest of world other than North America gets. While the North American front may be more functional, not alot of users will be taking advantage of its modest softroading capabilities. How these decisions are made isn't clear to me.
As someone who lives on bad roads with dips and steep entry ways to parking lots I appreciate the ruggedness of the front end. The Asia spec bumpers could be good on a sport package though or the luxury trims like the EX.
I own the Seltos "S" w/1.6 Turbo and 7 speed Dual Clutch trans, and I'm really happy with it. Has all the tech like lane keeping, auto front and rear collision avoidance, rear cross traffic detection, Android Auto and Apple car play and more.

I drove it last week, I think you’re an excellent presenter especially in identifying the storage areas for the snacks and candies. The one I drove was the $29,000 top package lots of features but it’s 75 and 80 miles an hour on the interstate not real quiet, Mazda’s new CX 30 doesn’t have as many features but it is one comfortable quiet ride at 70 to 80 miles an hour. All cars feel and sound good 35 to 55 miles an hour. Another great review remember in your reviews quiet counts Comfort counts

They do have some wind noise at speed but as a third car, it's not a huge point for me to dwell upon. It's serves well as a commuter vehicle, wind noise and all.
The Kia Sportage SX blows everything listed away and is available for less with incentives. My wife traded in her Lexus RX Hybrid in for one a few years ago. Better technology, styling and the power of the 2.0T engine is unbelievably punchy.
It's CVT broke in a Clickoncar review in Netherlands on 6000km range. Car became immovable.

How is the DCT since I see you've been driving with it for some time now. Thinking of getting a seltos but I'm not sure if I should risk the DCT since I've seen some bad reviews about it and it'd be my first time driving anything other than a traditional automatic.

In my experience with an FJ cruiser, white roofs really help keep the vehicle and the twinkies a little cooler in the summer. Also this Seltos has a key option, not a fob, and that's a big plus for me. I may need to look at one.

The SX trim looks the best with the full LED headlights. They should have offered the full LED headlights on the lower trims through a premium package option.

Then what is the point of having a SX Trim. The whole point is product differentiation. They want to provide a motivation to sell the SX.
Matthew Gaines I understand that, but what I’m saying is that they could have done the same thing they did on the Forte, offering the LED headlights on the S trim through the ‘Premium Package’. Doesn’t need to be offered on all trims.

Off topic on this video, but I was wanted to get your opinion on a STI RA. I found one with 3900 miles for 41k Is that a good price compared to what you paid for yours? Seems a bit high even though its very low miles. Thanks for your help.
found your channel last week looking for a new car i absolutely love your reviews! I test drove this exact model (in white) the day before i found you but i really hate that key. I don't mind having a key just not a switchblade style key and even the salesperson agreed that it could get stuck in the open position but I if it gets stuck in the "closed" position your SOL. Drove nice tho, but the key was a huge turn off. But i don't get why all these new cards have "infotainment" systems that have to exceed the height of the dash that's ultra annoying.

Took my 2016 Soul, which I loved, in for an oil change about the same day this review was posted, and came across the Seltos while wandering about in the dealer showroom waiting for the Soul to be finished. Never new it existed, but on Feb. 29, I traded the Soul for this same model Seltos in 'Mars Orange.' For me, the only knock on the Soul was the lack of cargo space with the seats up, and the Seltos resolves that. So far, I love it, and it fits my golf clubs without having to put the seats down (yipee!). Rides very much like the Soul, but perhaps a bit smoother. My wife has a 2018 Suby Crosstrek that I'd say rides smoother, but size is very similar, though I think the Seltos has a bit larger cargo area. But I love Kias because of the warranty, in addition to just liking their vehicles. Came across this review looking to see if there was anything about the Seltos I hadn't discovered yet, and while I didn't learn anything, it did confirm my feeling about the Seltos. I will say that I don't like the higher trim levels because they are leather-only, and much darker inside. The 'S' has every option I would want, though I guess blind-spot monitoring would be a nice addition. One option I found that had not been explained to me at the dealership is 'Lane Following Assist' (activated with the button with the steering-wheel-like icon clustered with the cruise control buttons. Works a bit differently than Lane Keep Assist in that it basically steers for you if the lane markings are visible (though you ARE required to keep you hands on the steering wheel for it to remain active). Thanks for taking the time to review the Seltos.
With the Lane Keep Assist you can have your hands off the steering wheel for about 10 seconds and then the car will tell you to grab the steering wheel & if you don't the car will slow down until you do grab it.

Very thorough review. I'd watched a previous review on the top of the line Seltos. I also read Consumer Reports' review and it's not nearly as positive as yours. The magazine discusses engine noise filtering through the cabin as being annoying. Also, plastic panels. Persoanally, I believe Kia has a winner on its hands. I wanted to find out whether the Seltos does offer power seats but couldn't find the specs. In fact, I always have trouble navigating the website, especially when I want to build a model online. I don't know if it's me or the website isn't user friendly.

I just got it in black and I can’t figure out what that steering wheel shaped button is next to the cancel button on the steering wheel is.

I was relatively interested in this until he got to the back seat. This time around I want rear AC vents for sure. I'm tired of freezing myself to get air to the back. Aside from that deal breaker for me it seems like a good choice. Lobe the gas mileage and the look of it.
It's a small SUV it won't take long to cool it down with only front vents. Also if you get one with remote start you can start it before you get in and it will already start to be cooled down by the time you get in it.
Do you prefer the Seltos over the Kona ?

In a non clutch transmission should I go for a AWD will it slow down the car ?
For the price, not bad at all. Yes, it doesn’t have the best interior and power everything, but for around $23,000, with a nice infotainment, AWD and plenty of cargo, this is a good affordable option for many.

The NA engine is bulletproof, the CVT is not! Kia is replacing those CVTs left and right lately, and the software fix TSB some are saying isn't really a fix.

we got the 2wd S version and I like it....ill probably get the 2024 version as well at some point also with 2wd...i think Kia should have offered the LX with 2wd as well - overseas you can even get the 1.6 turbo in 2wd

You guys get the Hyundai Kona but not it's sister model Kia Stonic & this Seltos instead ? You get the better deal on looks for sure ! In Europe we don't get the Seltos unless maybe it will replace the aging Sportage ...
You did fail to mention that Kia's IVT is chain driven, not belt, You don't have to worry about it breaking and the shifting is much better than the competition
The wife is looking for a subcompact suv. Right now she’s deciding between the Kona and the CX-3. I showed her this video and she prefers the look and colors of the Kona and CX-3. We don’t really need the extra room that you might get from the Seltos. Also although it’ll be her car, I prefer cloth to the fake leather. It’s just a personal preference. AWD is a huge plus here in Minnesota. Excellent video Joe. It was nice to be able to show this option to the wife. Keep up the fantastic work!!! 👍

Test drove seltos and kona, both 1.6T AWD, but in the end bought the Kona, better stance, and all around better, my choice, but Kia Seltos is def. a close call, same engines, so it come down to looks more than anything

What is the history of Kia. Need to know before I buy
I recently saw the fully loaded Seltos 1.6T at our local auto show. I didn't like it as much as I did in photos. Those speakers very much look like they have damaged grills on first glance. In my opinion, the Mazda CX30 is easily the best non ev in this class. The style and quality inside destroys the Seltos. The best overall though imo, is the Kona/Niro EV.
On second thought, after watching your fully loaded Seltos review, it is obvious I wasn't in the fully loaded Seltos. I retract that statement.

I own a seltos in india. We have a smaller wellbase compared to the US model as well as a smaller engine i.e. 1.4 Turbo dct.
I LOVE THIS CAR, MY GOD, IS GORGEOUS!
KIA Seltos rear Aircon vent blowing warm air when Aircon temperature is set at 25 degree celsius and outside environmental temperature is above 34 degree celsius, their service work shop claimed that is normal.
During the visit on 26 Apr 2021, inspection was carried out on the vehicle’s Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning System; the values such as Ambient Temperature Sensor, Evaporator Temperature Sensor, photo sensor, In-car air temperature sensor and other related values that maintain the operation of the climatic air-conditioning system. We did not find any abnormalities in the values and all sensors and actuators are functioning normally and a diagnostic scan with the manufacturer’s diagnostic scanner did not report any diagnostic trouble codes. These data was also inspected and compared to 2 other similar vehicles and the performance was found to be similar and thus the vehicle’s air-conditioning system was judged to be operating normally.

I don't get why some manufacturers keep using that black gloss detail? What's with the turn key ignition? No push button start?? As with many other vehicle review people. You knit pick some manufacturers for one thing but seem to over look or praise others for the same thing. Why ?
