- We’re back! For our first video in 2020 we are reviewing the 2021 Kia Seltos, which is Kia’s newest small crossover. In this video we give it a full review and see if it has what it takes to compete in a very hot segment. The car we are reviewing is a 2021 Kia Seltos SX Turbo in Neptune Blue.

We literally just bought this Seltos, in the sx turbo and Neptune blue! 1: this is our 3rd Kia, we keep going back! 2: we love our new Seltos, its comfy and sporty with plenty of space for Costco runs! 3: the Bose sound system is *chef's kiss*, because we love our bass filled tracks! Highly. Recommend!

Mr. C.G.O The CH-R has a gutless powertrain and it looks more like a tall car and doesn’t really have SUV proportions!
@@windanthonystream It has no AWD and no features. Was originally intended to be a Scion.
really. the CH-R NEEEEEEEEEEEDS and update. this kia is a home run for starting at 21k and as seen for as low as 28k. really this kia seltos and the Mazda cx-30 really have elevated this segment, the mazda starts at 24k but it has a nicer interior also has its larger 2.5L engine as standard and you usually find the S turbo seltos starting at 25.5k
@@aidensnew8562 Sadly I doubt the CH-R will be anything more than a cramped, slant-roof FWD CVT lifted compact car. Really sad how Toyota handled it during the fallout of Scion. However Toyota may enter this category with the production FT-4X concept. It'll be a small, boxy SUV

@@ridexdrive are you confused? I simply stated that it was nice to see a person of color doing a concise review(you don't see that often) and the voice over audio compared to the on camera audio was a bit different. It's called constructive criticism that's all...
Lavapop nope. Not confused. Running out of things to say about the audio, growing and learning pains. But I try to respond to everyone so that’s all I could muster up. I should have added an lol so the friendly shade may have come across better. 😆 I do appreciate the comment and completely agree we need more POC in the car game. There are some like, Rory Reid, leading the way and our friend Forrest at Forrest’s Auto Reviews.

Great vid. Do you think the turbo engine will hold up and deliver 200-300k miles?
Lou M can’t really answer that question directly, as only time will tell. However, Kia as a brand has really good ratings in terms of reliability. Just like other brands you can certainly find horror stories but overall they usually rank pretty high in consumer reports and JD Power surveys. Also keep in mind Kia has a very long 100,000 mile/10 year powertrain warranty. Glad you enjoyed the video!

@@fleiteae I love the car. I bought the car in February. It's a fully loaded Seltos. I have 9.8k miles on it and it has been a joy to drive everyday. The AWD is awesome, I live in Montana and the AWD lock has been especially useful. It's rock solid on icy roads and snow.

Congrats Michael. Same here on both trim and color, two weeks ago. Moving from a Mazda 3 five door which I loved. So many crossovers on the road though, so it became time to join ‘Em as I couldn’t beat ‘Em. This review was excellent and thorough and helped with the decision. Enjoy!
Thank you for making this video. Overall, an excellent review, though I do have to point out that the Seltos slots between the Soul and Sportage in Kia's lineup. Which would make the Soul Kia's entry level CUV.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, mentioned that in the video. Purposely didn't include the Soul because it's a weird vehicle and although Kia has started promoting it as a CUV, it started life as a compact "box" car (Nissan Cube, Scion xB, etc.). Some in the industry still don't see the soul as a true crossover. Also it doesn't come with AWD. Otherwise you are correct. Although, if you throw the Kia Niro in the loop, based on size, the Seltos is larger but based on price.. the Seltos is less expensive. So, the Seltos would slot between the Niro and the Sportage in terms of size and between the Soul and the Niro in terms of price.
Game changer sub compact. Just ordered our second one.

The mode isn’t called eco it’s called smart because it will change to sport if your driving that way on its own then go back to eco when you are not flooring it
Yup. Dash says SMART, Kia calls it ECO in their press material and on their Website. Either way, it has drive modes haha. Thanks for the attention to detail! Maybe we should petition them to update their site and press materials. ;)

does the SX turbo have a power lift gate trunk and automatic folding mirrors? if not can you get it added from the dealer?
I don't believe it has either and likely not a simple option at the dealership. Checkout the Kia Sportage or Mazda CX-30. I believe they both have a power lift gate and power folding mirrors. We have a review of the Sportage coming soon!

Are ventilated seats available. Will they be developing a hybrid?
Michael Taylor not sure if Kia will make a hybrid version. Check out the Niro if you’re interested in a Kia hybrid. The US doesn’t have ventilated seats in the 2021 models. Other markets do.
Any speculation or word as to why Kia would not provide ventilated seats in just the US market? Bummer. I live in the desert and believe I will miss this in my new Seltos SX Turbo when the summer arrives.
Not exactly sure why but it’s pretty common in the industry for different markets to get better or different features. Cost is likely a reason and possibly trying to not make the Seltos too comparable to the more expensive Sportage in our market, which does have ventilated seats.
It is interesting because we were at the 2019 LA Auto Show where the Seltos made its US debut and the vehicle they had at that show had ventilated seats. That feature didn’t make it into production here in the US.
Can you get one with a tow package???
Nice, concise review (although you said 174hp at 11min mark when it's really 175). The Seltos needs the 201hp that's in the Soul.
Thanks. Haha. UA-cam comment’s section, the one place where perfection is demanded. Although, in day to day conditions, the likelihood of it making exactly either of those horsepower numbers is slim.

Kia always seems to lack in the fuel eco dept. I look forward to their hybrid SUV's in the future......
The difference in mileage is small enough to be near unnoticeable and I would very happily take the extra power and especially torque. I need to drive the Seltos but the others are lethargic. It's absolutely horrid when you actually have them loaded. During the test drive they're ok. Then you get to the real world and use them for the purpose they were built for. After 4 people and baggage, CUVs tend to be pretty much useless. I'd be curious about gas mileage differences when each are fully loaded

If you’re a tech oriented person, then yes it is.
Does this trim come with rear heated seats?
Not aware that any trim on the Seltos has heated rear seats.

I am sadly disappointed in this vehicle. I have been hyping this car since it was announced in India. However there are a few things this car falls short on that never seems to get talked about for it's price that competitors offer such as: Dual climate control, powered passenger seat, and the sun roof is super small in person. I will give it that it drives nice and has a quite ride but there are just some features that would have been nice to see for it's price and where it falls in KIAs line up.
