      My only complaint against Kia/Hyundai is their quality. I had a 2012 Sonata Turbo in Limited trim. Engine seized due to quality issues they had. Hyundai refused to repair the engine on warranty (the car had only 52k miles and 2.5 years of use) because I was using an aftermarket oil filter. That is illegal under the Magnuson Miss Warranty Act. Even after they recalled the engine they refused to repair it to like new standards or change it. How can I trust a company that touts people into buying their cars because they had a huge warranty but then refuse to live up to the expectation? They are simply dead to me as a customer. My father has a Santa Fe...I can't tell you how many things he's had to fix in five years...power window mechanism, 4 brake sensors, electrical issues....and so on...Kias are mechanically speaking Hyundais...based on our experience they aren't worth the money if you are a keeper.... I'd rather pay a bit more for a Toyota or Honda and save the money in the long run.

    The seltos actually gives more leg and headroom in the front and back seats than the Rav4… only a little less wide, and a smaller trunk. But the amount of money you save for the seltos over the RAV4 makes losing a little trunk space worth it, and gaining some leg room.

    If you are stuck in stop and go traffic all the time get a #Hybrid . I have to congratulate Kia/Hyundai for keeping things boxy as this is the most efficient shape for passengers and cargo. Finally, the lock of the center coupling for the AWD system should be mandatory on all AWD CUVs.

    I saw this same Kia (color and trim) at the Cincinnati Auto Expo last week. It was my wife's favorite SUV. She loved the color, me no so much, but it could grow on me. My 6'3, 295 lbs fit quite nicely, and even had room in the back to sit behind myself. I did not feel like a Fat Guy in a Little Car. Interestingly, the Chevy stand was across the aisle from Kia's. The interior quality and feel of the $29.000 Seltos bested the $50,000 Blazer. (And don't get me started about the interior quality gulf between the Traverse and Telluride!) My only disappointments were the lack of dual climate control, paddle shifters, heated steering wheel, and cooled seats. But even so, this is the front runner to replace her Mazda3.

      @Jean Toronto Raptors talking about that, yes HR-V may be a better car solely for the reason that it is almost 5 years old now and has all it's bugs sorted out by now, Seltos being an all new vehicle will need at least 1 year of refresh to be actually able as a blindly recommendable small SUV. But CH-R on the other side my friend, though may have the compatibility of a Toyota, but a daily using car, it is way too compromising especially those back seats are very uncomfortable and that trunk area is abysmal for a vehicle which likes to call itself an "SUV"

    • @digitaldoc100

      @Jean Toronto Raptors The CH-R is front drive only, and no optional engine, with the base engine quite underpowered. I fully support the stand up infotainment systems on volume brands since it allows them to swap in and out screens very easily on higher/lower trims across the whole lineup, lowering cost in more ways than one. On more premium/luxury brands thought, they should just make the better screen standard and integrate it. One thing people have to remember is they have a "volume model" which is what sells the most. For this thing it will likely be the FWD model with the standard safety features. AWD is nice but for snow, which is what most people want AWD for, FWD is just as good.
    On the note of the "tweener" comment, the telluride (and palisade) are full size crossovers, just there are only a few others which is why they're usually called large mid size crossovers. The chevy traverse, buick enclave, and arguably the subaru ascent are really the only other full size crossovers. The mercedes GLS and bmw X7 also apply but are completely in a different category of luxury.

    Thanks Alex. Had to buy the SX T-GDI AWD, the price was so good for what we get. I first wanted the CX-30 but the 250 hp motor was 4k more than the top trim Seltos, I could get the new Bronco for that. When I first drove it I tried to kill it, I was not expecting the handling to be anywhere as good as it is for not being a Mazda in fact the mazda did not have as sharp a handling as this SX seltos. If you are driving in and around traffic and people asleep at the wheel a lot like me, you will notice how easy this Seltos is to dart through and around sleepers, intown and on the highway. I drive hard and this thing can be driven. I think this is the first vehicle in my life that I purchased and actually like the tires that it comes with. The 235 45 18 Kumho Majesty tires are so much nicer than what other brands are throwing on their SUVs. Drive the non turbo Seltos back to back with the SX turbo and you will notice the better ride and quieter tires on the sx, this vehicle is louder inside than what I am used to especially in base trim. Mine is all pearl white with the sun roof option and the Costco discount ,loaded 28,333. out the door. 0 buyers remorse for the first time in my life.

    Another nail in the coffin of the sedan segment. Cute little station wagon. Would be fun with a 6 speed manual. You'd think Kia could squeeze 40 mpg on the highway in this small vehicle. If you think this is cute, check out all the other neat Kia models you can get in Europe and Asia. I'd like an Optima Sportswagon with a diesel engine and 6 speed manual transmission.

    Like Mazda's CX-3 and CX-30 one has to wonder about KIA's decision to offer two subcompact crossovers, the Soul and the Seltos. But while I suspect that the CX-3 won't last too much longer in the American market, KIA's ability to divide a market segment into slices so thin they would make Kramer proud I suspect that the Soul and the Seltos will each do well with somewhat different groups of customers. The Soul has an amazingly broad appeal to demographic groups ranging from 20 something hipsters to young families and downsizing seniors. The Seltos, on the other hand is focused more precisely on the entry level SUV customers who currently consider the Honda HRV and Toyota CH-R.

    Despite the chain, the IVT does not appear to be reliable so far. The rubber belts on other CVTs don’t seem to be prematurely breaking anyway. They had other issues.
    Do a search on KIA forums for IVT problems and you will see there have been several threads about transmission failures in other KIA models using the same IVT.
    It remains to be seen whether this is all from manufacturing defects of early builds that will be corrected on newer builds or if it is an inherent design flaw that will remain for years.

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide 4 роки тому +1

      We'll have to see what the metrics bring in. So far my connections at Consumer Reports are showing above average reliability. There will always be some fringe issues but we won't know until about 2 years in. That said, the long powertrain warranty will cover any issues in the average ownership cycle.

    • @webcomment8895
      @webcomment8895 4 роки тому

      Alex on Autos There is always risk in buying new cars with new powertrains. Kia Forums are showing several people having complete transmission failures in their IVT-equipped Fortes and 2020 Souls. Maybe Kia has found and corrected the major issues by now. Or maybe these people are not participating in Consumer Reports reliability surveys.
      However, Kia/Hyundai does not appear to have ever fixed a cylinder design flaw in the 2.4 litter Theta II engine used across many of their late model vehicles. Owners just have to rely on the warranty to fix it if it fails before 100K miles for the original owner only. Powertrain warranty expires after 60K miles as soon as the original owners sells the vehicle unless the vehicle is resold though the CPO program.
      Kind of makes those vehicles disposable at an early age and destroys resale value of out of warranty Kias and Hyundai’s with a reputation of short-lived powertrains.

      @@webcomment8895 I think CR stops surveying cars more than 5 years old. THAT is when things start really falling apart. Manufacturers know how to game the game. Modern cars are overflowing with planned obsolescence which is why 3 year leases are so popular. No one wants to hold after the warranty. You have to know when to fold them. Really expensive implied lifestyle.

    My biggest gripe with Kia/Hyundai has nothing to do with the quality or execution, it's the resale value. Unlike a Honda or Toyota, they loose value astoundingly fast. We've got our 2016 Kia Sedona SX rust proofed every year to keep it in great condition and we were looking at selling it or trading it in for a small awd suv for my wife and it's simply not worth any money. We found that if we had spent another $4000 at purchase for a comparable Honda or Toyota, we would of had $8000-$9000 more in trade in value. We can't even get reasonable trade in value from the Kia dealer. I'm afraid it will not be Kia/Hyundai for me anymore.
