    In my senior year of high school, my government and economics teacher made every student write and perform a song talking about some aspect of American history. He made it worth so many points that even if you added up the points from every other assignment in the class for the whole year you would never be able to pass if you didn't do the rap assignment. I think my hating this man is Justified.

      That's what I'm saying! This makes me think that they don't support their daughter fully. Like that name shouldn't be important anymore and what should be important is making your daughter feel supported and happy. If getting the tattoo covered up will help your daughter feel better and not uncomfortable around you, then get the tattoo covered up. That discomfort isn't going to change.

    Amazing episode as always. The third one really hit home for me because I had a similar issue with my Dad after coming out as trans. I had to have multiple small fights with him to do things like change my name on his phone or change his tattoo that had my initials on it. He accepted eventually and did change them, but it made me feel awful every time I saw it.

    Honestly really big point that I feel got missed on the third post is how people would consider it if this was a case of an ex's name tattoo'd on you. Your new partner asking you to get rid of it is exactly the same thing here. Personally I understand all too well how much parents can either cling to a deadname bc they associate memories with that, or just not understand how much the difference means, but outright refusing to come to any resolution about it feels lazy and belittling. Trust reddit to be how they are though.

    @queenautumnween2796 3 місяці тому +25

    I really appreciate how serious yall were on the deadname story. As a trans woman myself, its tough having to see your dead name and know that your dead name exists. To then see that name on your mom's neck all the time is a constant reminder of an identity you dont want to associate with. To ask for it to be removed or covered up is completely valid and, at least with covering it up, isnt really that difficult to do. They were 100% right about the "as long as" ick. Whenever theres anything after "i support you" like a "but" or " as long as", then its not full, unconditional support. 10/10 response to this post and 10/10 roast of the people in the comments defending this mother.

    To me it seems the mother is from story three is inconvenienced by by the entirety of her daughters transition, but is willing to put up with it.
    Then she is asked to not only accept the transition but also to get her tattoo removed at which point she feels her daughter is overreaching.
    It's the only way I can make sense of her bizzare stance, either that or it's a fake story as these posts so often are.

    • @queenautumnween2796
      @queenautumnween2796 3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah honestly the mother seems to not being the most supportive, especially with the red flag of saying, "I am supportive of her transition AS LONG AS her grades aren't affected" like what are you gonna do, stop her from transitioning? The mother now has to deal with an inconvenience of her daughter feeling uncomfortable with a tattoo and wants it to be covered up. From what I gathered from the post she doesn't want the tattoo removed/covered up because of the principle of it. Like she thinks it's "to show her loyalty to her as an ally"!!?!?!?!! Kinda shows her true colors

    Heads up, I feel like the upload schedule of this series is a problem, which is why I don’t think we are getting the amount of views that I think we should on this podcast series. If you could do anything about the schedule of the podcast, I would suggest changing it to a more reasonable time frame for North America, where most of MBT’s audience is. It’s not that I won’t come back to watch it, but I know that for a lot of people, they will only watch it if they see it in their sub box. So I feel like that is partially why the numbers aren’t doing so good.

    i will add with the second one, assuming its real (cause its written like its not), bullying has changed with the introduction of social media and widespread 24/7 access to a camera. i've been out of school for a while but i can say that as someone who has cousins still in school, bullying has become so much more relentless. kids are always chasing clout and they're going to go with the more popular opinion which is almost always whoever gets a post in first which is usually the bully, so all it takes is one clip to get uploaded to tiktok or something and then you're the butt end of a joke for the entire school and potentially a bunch of randos online as well so then you're getting harassed in person and online, with essentially no safe space. so again, assuming its real, then this kid's aversion to going is completely justified.
    and im not trans so i feel like i dont have as much authority to talk about the third one but i just want to comment on their point of it being their body their choice. people absolutely should have full autonomy over their own bodies and i feel that that point is understandable BUT, if something you're doing, even if it is "correct", is hurting someone, especially someone you supposedly LOVE, then that "correct" thing is no longer okay

    You mostly get to the right points on the kid in the rap battle, but I have a note to make about your mention of talking to the kid's school. The School is not necessarily on your kid's side. You do not say your kid made themself throw up, you say they threw up. Attendance is mandatory unless your kid is actually sick, so you need your kid's school to believe they are. Lots of teachers do indeed just suck and not only does this spanish teacher suck the whole administration let them put on show that the whole school would watch. That had to see too many eyes for you to blindly trust the school to shut down the show cause your kid is understandably anxious. You gotta learn to use that exonerative voice that american and european journalists invented. Also whoever or whatever got school cancelled is based.

    Genuinely, with plastics, it is a scam from propaganda of petroleum companies. Glass is... fine, but still not that effective. Metals absolutely should be recycled.
    So you should, in general.
    REDUCE the plastic you use, REUSE the glass you buy, and RECYCLE the metal you have left.

    I don't know. The first being unanimously blasted feels bad to me. Being open and honest about your partner about any sex act they clearly enjoy is important. If it's a problem for the guy and he makes that clear this is a GOOD THING. Like imagine they are being intimate and both enjoying this and she wants to finish that way. And he doesn't. Do you just grin and bear it as the guy because to say otherwise is judgmental and prudish? It could grow to be a major problem. I 100% don't think the guy meant his admission as a punch. Communication is good.

It's too stylized to even really tell the names and unlikely to be able to cover it up. Could be a reason for needing a removal not a cover up.

    It's weird seeing this on UA-cam a day after hearing it on Spotify. I feel for the OP in the 2nd one as I had similar shit happen to me way too much in public schools. On the last one, it's quite a hard one to wide with, but I'll stand firmly with the mother. Coming out as trans is probably the hardest thing for someone to do, and someone who would come put as trans need to come to grips that this is not universally accepted. If your mom still loves you and says she supports you, you should be lucky that it's gone that well at least, because a lot of trans people don't even get that as sad as that is. The wording of the post may have come off bad, but like one of you said, there's way more factors we don't know. Maybe the mother isn't ready to change the tattoo yet. Maybe she needs more time to process what this means to her because it's a huge lifestyle choice that affects not only her (trans) daughter, but the rest if her family too. It's a lot to deal with. I hope that issue gets resolved, but that's one I'd disagree with you guys with

    • @queenautumnween2796
      @queenautumnween2796 3 місяці тому +4

      I'm sorry but how exactly does it effect the mom and the rest of the family? Are they also changing their identity when they come out too? The family honestly doesn't matter. The whole, "well they have to mourn the past you that is now gone" is so dumb honestly. If there's hesitation about changing her tattoo, then it can feel as if your mom isn't fully supportive of you. This is clearly causing her daughter extreme discomfort if her daughter is avoiding her. As a trans woman, i completely empathize with the daughter here and I honestly don't care about "the parents side of it". Why does she have to keep a tattoo with her daughter's deadname? That name doesn't matter anymore, that name now has a negative association, so it honestly should be changed not only for the daughter but also just in general, it's awkward to have to explain that tattoo to people who ask about it.

    They didn't even go into anti-tattoo or body mods. Im sorry- when does a parent lose power over body modifications? the parents control the kids body mods, it should not be the other way around. like HUH, have these kids never been exposed to body mods of other kids? earrings or other kids having tattoos should show something to the transitioned kid. That it is very entitled to believe that you have that control over body mods--I know it goes the other way often where kids get body mods without parents permission, so is the kid going to decide anyone else they know who has a body mod that is not liked by everyone in their family should do the same?
    Transition is mental, maybe physical, I don't think it should ever require a physical change in another person unless it is a transplant surgery. How could that (physical change in another person) ever be argued in defense of transitioning being the correct choice for this kid (which I am not disputing). It should be enough to transition. to transition shouldn't require to personally transition and change another persons body
    Is transitioning yourself more with body mods or changing someone else physically more important to transitioning yourself??? in terms of opportunity cost, also does the other kid get cash money? or an equivalent extra tattoo????
    how could you 3 be so wrong on this, maybe because you don't have kids.
    New name & pronoun are the only things transitioning should get you ~immediately

      So one of your parents has tattood on their neck "VinegarPotato was a mistake". They keep telling you they don't actually feel that way, but there it is, on their neck. Assume they have the money just lying around where they could get it covered or even removed. They just don't. They don't even cover it up with a band-aid or some such when around, they just have it out and easily read by others.
      Edit in Response: You are being silly. I am not arguing that the parent has to get the tattoo changed in any way. I am arguing that to that child right now, the tattoo says the equivalent of "Child is a mistake". Sure, it didn't say that before, but that's what it says now. If the parent doesn't want to change the tattoo, then the consequences of such are on them. It is like how freedom of speech means you can say what you want, but you still get to suffer the consequences of it.

      I don't think the hypothetical fits too well because it only becomes "was a mistake" after the name change.
      Ok I get what you are saying, that would not feel good.
      I still do not believe in the physical change in another person ~*rights/wants.
      The money even if just lying around, it is not dedicated just to transkidA. --> kidB gets equal money or tattoo change
      But from here how can you argue that Being trans means sibling gets money or gets a change on tattoo skin? that just fundamentally is not a part of being trans
      here kidB's name is also "kidB was a mistake" so now this becomes not a trans issue but an issue with wearing 2 someones names on your body
      there can be no $ cost of acceptance/recognition of a child unless it is equal between siblings or rivalry and problems will happen if that $ cost is ever revealed

      The entire point of the tattoo of your child's name is to show how much you love them and how important they are to you. If that tattoo is actively causing the person it is dedicated to to feel like shit then that is actively going against the point of the tattoo in the first place. Even if you don't want to get the removal you can always get a cover-up or just physically cover it. If you aren't willing to update that or accommodate them it just spits on the original intent of the tattoo.

    • @VinegarPotato
      @VinegarPotato 3 місяці тому

      @DreamManmns the kid actively decided to make it a problem, why should a parent consider that thought in fairness to the other kid
      Why does the trans kid's name earn extra meaning over the other kid's name.
      Reguardless of if it "spits in the face of the original I intent" should one have to live every day dealing with ~*"consequences" of the tattoo, hiding it etc, why should we want a society that supports that, it is fundamentally anti tattoo in the first place if EXCESSIVE social forces are put on people with a tattoo of names that are no longer relavant.
      If one truly let go of their old name they would not care anymore, why is the parent not allowed to have the name of another person on their skin
      The kid is putting too much meaning into the tattoo AND THE OLD NAME, unless one wants to absolutely move away and fully leave the past life behind the old name will still be a part of your life, and it is not a valid expectation for it to die instantly just as any Internet username and brand/company name do not. It would have been extra fitting if the other comment used my old yt username instead of modern one.
      The only way to let it die is stop talking about it, but you don't deserve to change someone's body or change the way they show their skin because of your insecurities, its just a name, and was the name the kid was called for a substantial amount of time.

      I love giving people the benefit of the doubt so I will make an effort to try and recontexualize why people disagree with your take. I will try and do it with this hypothetical:
      - I come out as gay
      - I have a homephobic friend
      - I say "Hey could you please stop being homophobic? It's putting a strain on our relationship."
      - They say "I love you but I will not put in the effort to change how/what I talk about"
      - You come in and go "Hell Yeah! Free Speech! No one has the right to tell you want you can and can't say!"
      do you see why that would make people cross with you?
      Also, as an aside that is assuming a lot about you as a person, your takes on transition read like "Ally who has never talked to a trans person before". It reads like you know trans people transition but not why they do it.
