The perfect vehicle for a small quiet European town
Perfect vehicle to piss off everyone in that small town.
Obviously while blasting Ludacris with "Move Bitch"
Panel gaps only a GM employee could love.
Your videos are #1 in quality. Makes other auto channels look weak :D
Thanks man please recommend 😎
You know a car is big when it is taller than Thomas. :)
=)
I can't understand why American brands always have average or bad quality interior and driving experience, specially when America is one of the countries where people spend more time driving
Hey. I'm an American, and I refuse to buy American vehicles :D My current car is German, and my previous car was Italian.
The Escalade interior definitely could be better, but it's best to think of it as a luxury truck. It could comfortably tow the large family boat to the lake house
That’s an extremely hot take
Some additional thoughts:
- Mixed Escalade V8 consumption was as I said 13 l / 100 km - 18 mpg US - 22 mpg UK - BMW X7 with the V8 was also 13 - 14 l / 100 km with the V8
- However if you reset the consumption meter and do cruise control 100 km/h on the motorway, minimum consumption of the Escalade V8 was 10 l / 100 km
- 23 mpg US - 28 mpg UK, which is quite decent for the size of the engine and the car, maybe also due to the COD / Cylinder on Demand Technology
- That was also the average mixed consumption with the BMW X7 inline 6-cylinder
- The window of the rear hatch can be opened separately
- Good noise insulation is also due to the Active Noise Cancellation system which is being used in the Escalade - The rough suspension experience is due to the rigid axle that is being used in the rear, the adaptive Magnetic Ride cannot make up for that
- I compared other soft air suspensions to that, because in this segment, usually an air suspension is being used 75 k USD entry price in the US, 100 k EUR entry price in Germany, equipped test vehicle was 117 k (!)
- thanks for watching! :)
That's actually an impressive consumption for a car this size. weight and a V8.

Nice to see American cars being reviewed in Europe.
Yeah,.. but not so nice having it torn apart!
Lol
@@charleshein4477 The Escalade gets "torn apart" when reviewed in America.. it's "old" at this point and the interior honestly kind of sucks! The redesign cannot come soon enough! I found Thomas' review to be quite positive compared to anything I've heard from America on the Escalade in the past couple of years.
@@JakeDrives1 true it's pretty dated at this point . Still a nice truck. The new navigator seems like a smarter buy
Excellent review and conclusion. I like US GM products, drive a Silverado myself (i do not live in Europe), but this Escalade I would never buy. Try the Navigator.
24:10 - car gives you a nervous feel when going on bumps - makes you uneasy and gives you an insecure feeling 😂😂
Thank you Thomas for the review
Thanks for your review. Love the (brutal) honesty!
It's amazing that in 2019 somebody builds such a car. I can remember that for many years ago the wire to the defog/ electric rear window was kind of primitive, but I've never seen a solution like on this truck :)))))))
Should I laugh or should I cry?
I don't understand how that is possible!
Guys, take yourself together!!!!!
You have been on the moon!!!
For many, many years ago!!!!!
Her in Europe many of us are fascinated about american cars, but we end, many times, by being disappointed.
BUT. The review............. first class. As always :)
thanks Stefan!
Escalade definitely showing its age. Hopefully the new one is far more competitive. Fundamentally, one cannot really compare a body-on-frame luxo-truck to a unibody crossover. They are intended for different purposes.
Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,
smells like a steak and seats thirty-five..
Canyoneroooh, Canyonero.
Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down,
It's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown!
Canyonero! (Yah!) Canyonero!
12 yards long, 2 lanes wide,
65 tons of American Pride!
Canyoneroooh, Canyonero.
Top of the line in utility sports,
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!
Canyonero! Canyonero! (Yah!)
She blinds everybody with her super high beams,
She's a squirrel squashing, deer smacking, driving machine!
Canyonero!-oh woah, Canyonero! (Yah!)
I hope Cadillac will be selling the upcoming 2021 Escalade in Europe, and I definitely hope to see a review of it here on Autogefühl for a comparison. Always wanted one, and I still do though I know a MB GLS would be a much better choice in every way. So hopefully the new model, which seems to have many improvements, will be a better car, that's actually worth the money. And maybe the 6 cylinder diesel could make it possible to find a new owner after a few years :)
Excellent review
Lincoln Navigator test next?
Not sold in Europe. 🤔
Interior is super shoddy. Squeaks, rattles, panel gaps, stitching not aligned, tiny buttons, too much piano black, cheap plastic surrounds on certain panels, pieces don’t seem to fit together very well and leather is already starting to wear.
#AmericanCars
@@GAmbrose Yeah, go try a Navigator instead of cherry picking the worst Cadillac offers.
@@MrCarGuy I had one for 3 weeks and drove 2700 miles in it. It was ok on American roads but not suitable for European roads.
@A real bisexual petrol-head What!?!
I don't remember him in the video complaining about almost all of those things that you complain about. Hint: parrotting outdated platitudes about GM quality just makes you sound old. 😉
Everything about this vehicle is just diabolical.
Every Uber black in New York City has one of these
Do they also use the ESV?
Can't believe how shoddy those seats look already.
Homely and inviting you mean?
Hi Thomas. Good review as always. One part you mentioned at 21:24 in the video is the fact that the rear glass opens separately from the hatch and there are times when someone might carry long cargo items that require the practicality of the rear glass to be open while the hatch is closed, so allowing the driver the ability to detach the power cable of the rear defroster is a good idea, I have used that feature on other platform mates of the Escalade. I agree they could have found a more elegant connector there.
thanks for the addition Robert!
Great review of the Escalade, a vehicle I've owned and loved. Four years I owned one and it never broke down. I've owned several BMW 750Li's and they've all broken down.
I'd have loved to have seen reactions to the Escalade from the average German during your test.
Great detail as usual - excellent 'Thomas video'. Shame about the car. And its lousy suspension - you used to hope the ride on a large American car would be its redeeming feature - but not on this pickup truck based vehicle apparently. Loved the Thomas driving part as always, illustrating what its like to drive. Great driving and commentary. Many thanks.
thanks my friend
Finally a car where you can pump it up y'all with style!
=)
Front driver side seat already gone in just 4 month wow what pathetic cheap leather they using
Excellent video, I just love how honest and truthful you are compare to other reviews on UA-cam attention to detail to each component.
The Escalade ESV is low rated by Doug DeMuro and other top re-viewers and I have seen it in real life the Escalade ESV, it's BIG on the outside but inside surprisingly small!!
I'm in your length category 6'5-1/2" and the third back seat on the ESV is the same as in the short wheel base model, for 2019, Cadillac updated the transmission to a 10-speed automatic. Thank you, for non musical background.
Of all the American vehicles I still prefer a GMC conversion van High-Top by Explorer Van Company. Today the GMC Savana has the 2.8L Diesel 4-cyl with 8-speed automatic.
thanks for the feedback!
My new favourite car reviewer. Driving cupboard. Ha! 😂😂😂
welcome :)
My ex wife had a hybrid Escalade years ago, pretty good vehicle. Im not sure if its still even available. Ive always liked the Escalade and its platform mates, but I find the build quality and materials of all GM truck products are not as good as they were 15 years ago. And the “planned obsolescence” built into new vehicles does not bode well for new retail customers. Its a great vehicle for a family who tows a large boat, caravan, or horse trailer. The Cadillac crest looks sad without its wreath. Looks like the CX-9 beats it on 3rd row seating comfort. Big disappointment there. I think the steering was better without the rack and pinion. I got 1/10 faster 0-100 kmh from my 2005 Chevy Silverado SS with a 6.0 litre LQ9 engine (345hp, 360 lb/ft of torque) and 4L65E 4 speed auto, before mods.
I think it is time for Cadillac to make great land Yachts. Love those big old beautiful things. This one feels like a box
@Ghanshyam Ghyani I wish it were still possible for me to take you for a ride in my late grandfather’s 1968 Coupé de Ville.
@@2W3X4YZ5 I appreciate your kind gesture. Thank you. Yes. I had the coupé de ville and the de ville sedan in my mind when I was referring to the great cars. True works of art
Thomas is right! The Escalade is good going 60-70 mph. Any faster, and it starts to show it's just an under-engineered, tarted-up Chevy that needs a complete re-design ...which is coming next year.
This is the one of the reasons I like your channel: honest and thorough reviews!
BTW the 255 MPH from the tachometer I bet comes from the choice to use an 8 bit wide unsigned integer to represent speed. In binary arythmetic this means you have 2^8 = 256 figures so you can count only from 0 to 255.
hah! great insight =)
Didn't know you've started doing mobile home reviews 😎
underrated comment mate
*luxury trailer park trailer
I'd take mobile home over this monster any day!
lol =)
Bring the new Ford Explorer with the european specification!!! Keep up with the great job!
What a beast!
Thomas. We go on vacation to USA every year and always hire a large
4x4. They are perfect for cruising around USA highways. This new one looks great but maybe not for UK. Thanks for sharing. BTW it would be good to see an episode where you go I to more detail on correct seating position and other best practices.
Agree!
Not a car for cruising with gas prices on European level.
Cheers!
As an owner of a 2016 Escalade, the reviewer is spot on. The 22" rims on a 6,000 lb. vehicle do NOT make for a comfortable ride, and the vehicle was NOT designed for the autobahn.
That said, it is still the number one selling full size luxury SUV in America, even a year AFTER Lincoln's redesigned Navigator was released.
Hopefully, the redesigned Escalade will address many of these shortcomings in 2021, starting with an independent rear suspension.
thanks for the feedback Ken !
100 Grand, more than 5m long, no legroom 😂
What an incongruous sight: Thomas, a cultivated European, behind the wheel of this unnecessarily vulgar, gas-guzzling monstrosity, made of old wheelie bins and beer cans, presumably. Still, at least it will be easy to park. Simply awful vehicle, but great review as ever.
Imposing exterior let down by outdated and cheaply done interior.
Hey it's the TechMoan song!
Thanks for another honest impartial review, Thomas. I get the impression you really wanted to like it, to praise it even, but once emotion and initial awe are stripped away the vehicle is objectively behind pretty much all others in the segment. A pity. Anyway, I still like it (and I get the feeling you do too) but the facts are what they are! BTW I don't ever remember you apologising for your opinion in any other review. Maybe you did not want to offend some Escalade owners who do not want to hear that "the best" car (as GM would want everyone to believe) is simply not. As a small consolation to Caddy fans, this model cycle was first launched in 2014 and GM are preparing a comprehensive refresh for the 21MY. It may end up improving some of your criticisms like the dash layout but I'm not sure how much the actual driving experience will be improved. Let's hope GM also watches your reviews! :) Regards from Spain.
gracias!
Is the car second hand? That drivers seat is looking wrinkly
Isn't that an american thing? Lots of old cars had really wrinkly leather at least. Like 70's/80's. It's probably supposed to look fluffy and plush :P
Yes. "Distressed leather". It actually looks good on tan or brown. Not so much on black
You forgot the rear view mirror also has a live view to the back up camera with the flip of the tab at the bottom
You are right at some points, i'm also fan of Cadillac but they neglected very important details that you've mentioned during the review that really disappointed me about this vehicle cause it is the worst they built in this car but the sedans models of Cadillac are really fine and even much better than some competitors.
Spassibo!
The Escalade is based on the GMT K2XX light truck platform which it shares with General Motors and Chevrolet full-size SUVs and pickup trucks. That would account for the car's lackluster handling since they're designed more for towing and heavy loads than road holding or ride comfort. Cheers, Thomas and greetings from the U.S.
Yes indeed - greetz!
I have a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali Truck and a 2017 Yukon Denali. The redesigned truck has a much better ride and feels more stable. Hopefully when the redesigned SUV comes out we will see the same types of improvements.
But does the new truck have a column shifter?
It's cool to see a Cadillac in Europe but it won't be cool seeing them every day
26:02 acceleration test, the car wobbles like jello.
It’s animal skin suede on the ceiling and lower parts of dash/ doors! Also rear visibility is much better in the US because it has a ver cool camera that displays in the rear view mirror! 2018 Platinum here also my leather is still looking great inside and I have 70,000 miles!! LOVE my truck king of the road for sure!
Thomas do review of 2019 RAM pick up
truck, or new Chevy Silverado even better
If is available. This car it’s for Mafia only 😂
But still very good job Thomas 👍
We will do the RAM!
Had an Escalade in the US for two weeks in 2016 and it was lovely, except for that nav screen, which was awful. Fingerprints everywhere and badly angled so you couldn’t see it. And when the passenger adjusted their temp the nav screen would disappear. Handy when joining a new turnpike. New Ford Expedition is far far better.
This car is a perfect example of how the US car industry is doing and why a US former car city like Detroit looks like it does!
7:00 "plastic foil with the air chambers" lol, that's so German of you. it's called bubble wrap
Always over complicating everything.. Leave it to the Germans hahah
"plastic foil with air chambers" sounds good! And pretty accurate. It's like people talk of having an accident in their car. No, more accurately, there was "an error of judgement that led to a crash"! Good stuff!
Here in America, the hood is held up with hydraulic struts and the second row has a handle instead of a strap.
Thomas won't be quoted in any Cadillac car ads on this one. LOL "old sofa" indeed! I've always said driving a Caddy is like piloting a couch. After 3 hours my thighs were killing me. Give me a good German microfiber seat with side bolsters. (car in Thomas blue, genau)
=)
One day when I release a rap album, I am getting one of those.
😂
As an American, this car is very representative of us...Shiny on outside, junk on the inside.
Enough of the identity politics
@@nobleametorwogo7420 Nothing about identity politics. This car is junk. Has one of the highest depreciation rates of any vehicles. In 2 years, you can get a used one at 1/10 the price. Junk is junk and the market has spoken. Only posers, Russian Mafia and losers drive this vehicle.

The definitive rapper's dream SUV.
I'd buy a Lexus,not contest.
wow, that UX is pretty terrible.
And i was already complaining about the heating controls in the Volvo V70's. This is definitely worse. Some people would not be able to see the road if they had to press any of the buttons on the right of the display.
Please review the new Escalade.. that is a different world!
we ll do that when we have the chance!
this cars interior looks like it was made in 2003 (great review like always)
What are you talking about!?!?! 2003... really?
It was made in 2003, hasn't changed since, exterior is the same too
I have a 2003 Yukon, there is a very big difference
I honestly don't know how they fit this thing in Europe! lol. I'm sure you were in heaven driving that baby, Thomas! Such a rare beast for Europe.. And to think they are EVERYWHERE in America. That's why everybody is fat! We don't have to stay slim to fit in the car lol. P.s. I love your rear hatch resistance test. That is a very smart piece to add to your reviews! I love your work, Thomas! Thank you from America!
Thx m8 😎
Thomas has a good taste in music, Lange is awesome 😎
sure is =)
Let's go!!
A Lincoln Navigator Black Label review in the future ?
I wish we could get those here! Maybe there is a importer for it, gotta search...
The Escalade has always been a "forced compromise" since it's based on a truck platform. The GMC Yukon Denali is a much better package, at a noticeably lower price. Hopefully the next-gen Escalade coming in 2020 will be improved. It's finally getting an IRS.
The biggest reason the price on this (and other SUV's in this segment) is so high - HUGE profit margins, and the general public is willing to pay.
Yeah, it costs more because it has a Cadillac badge on it. The Yukon looks better anyway
Great review Thomas and as always it's great to see your honest presentation. I think we have to remember that this model is about 5 years old and hasn't had a refresh at all in it's lifetime, but still a great seller. However, the new one is right around the corner. Many who have owned this truck (true body on frame and not a cross-over) are incredibly happy with its durability and overall trouble free longevity as there are legitimate reports illustrating that customer satisfaction has been very high with this vehicle. In this case of your review, how many kilometers did the vehicle have? Was this a media vehicle which was perhaps mistreated by other journalists?? What year model was this vehicle that you were testing? If this is a brand new vehicle, then this is a perfect example of showing how an animal hide that is Semi-aniline and supposedly long lasting, simply can not compete with other luxurious fabrics that are sustainable and have better longevity. I think at the end of the day, you can chose a Range Rover, with a much nicer interior design (and twice the price) that will probably result into many issues that current and past owners speak of or you chose one that is not so perfect but apparently trouble free for quite a while. Or like many of us, avoid both! Also, another fact about this US vehicle is that it is probably much cheaper in the US? Anyhow, looking forward to your next review. Thanks again Thomas!
Thanks for the feedback! A little cheaper in the US but u can also get lower spec version there
@@autogefuehl I wasn't aware there was the option of less loaded ones. Good to see that you reviewed a pricey one. We will see what happens in the next version. Cadillac has also mentioned going fully electric soon, so hopefully more sensitive to nature materials. Thank you for your reply Thomas and keep up the good work!
Yeah that should be interesting! Thanks!
The interior is a mess. Tahoe/Suburban has a way nicer interior
Just came for the review by Thomas eventhough I hate Cardiac and Lincoln.
I like cadillac and lincoln. i don't like the escalade.
All the GM like escalade, surburban, yukon are good on design and bad for praticability. Recommend you testing the navigator or expedition. Anyway, good job!
Thanks!
Nice video, but the vehicle is not Thomas blue!
Quality is the problem with most American cars. I owned a Chrysler Grand Voyager V6 and I have to say - it was the worst car I ever had. It was very very practical, but in 7 years I had so many repears that I had the feeling I bought it twice...
Suspension - typical American. Soft and okay as long as the road is okay. I've rented a lot of (big) American cars in the US and even big all wheel drive SUV's (with an expectation that you are able to conquer the world) are a complete disaster the moment you deside to take a simple dirt road.
The only positive exception: the Ford Mustang. Inexpensive in its kind but certainly not "cheap".
I guess we can conclude that not only water divide the Europeans from the Americans. Great review as always, even if I would never consider an American vehicle.
Thanks
You didn't show the hidden console behind the air conditioning buttons. That whole thing lifts up.
look BMW, Audi and Mercedes this is an SUV
Escalade has been built on the pick up truck platform, back suspension is not independent, it is solid axle...magnetic suspension is not that great...
I thought they would have closed shop after the Lincoln Navigator destroyed them 😅
That's a huge car.
Didn’t know dinosaurs still exist. :)
Oversized and over the top is too subtle a description for this vehicle - and the people who would want to buy it. The only thing that isn't surprising is that it's being built in Texas. Where else?!?
Thomas, try the Lincoln Navigator instead. The 3rd row seating can fit three adults because of the IRS. We own a 2015 Navigator and it is far more comfortable than the GM product.
Would like to test it! Sadly not available here :/
Autogefühl If you ever visit California USA you are welcome to test drive mine.
As a massive car fan and an American, it’s always disturbed me that by in large we can’t seem to ever get interiors or handling down. Once in a while a car comes along that’s OK but always something cheap about it or like this Cadillac, terrible handling
Oh Thomas, not trunk it's called a boot 😁
Depends on UK/US :)
Will there be a Review of the 2019 RAM 1500?
yes!

I d like to but they dont import those :/
@@autogefuehl thanks for the reply :)
For families looks nice.
When in New York five weeks ago, we were driven around in an Escalade (long version). The ride was really nice! I think a full EV Escalade would be very cool and fit this time and age better :)
the escalade is just a tahoe with chrome. This and the G-class are the 2 biggest ripoffs in the industry.
Raymond S no the G Wagon is exceptionally engineered and cannot be compared to this rubbish.
@@ahemgee9542 Tahoe rebadge or not, it's still GM body on frame SUV and will last for hundreds of thousands of miles.
We had a Kia Carnival back in the 00s when our daughters were teenagers. KV6 with overdrive and Captain's chairs (what's not to like). Therefore, I don't understand what the Escalade is for except wasting iron and steel. If you need 3 rows of seats it's minivan every day of the week. This car is somewhere between ugly and impractical and is pointless in Europe. To paraphrase In Bruges it is "too loud and too crass". Today as 'young' grandparents we have a Koleos which is great for the Swiss inclines and is basically the modern equivalent of a six light sedan with great visibility and enough comfort, power and technology for us at any rate. When travelling light we decamp to the R52 (after this point MINI was corrupted by BMW and you can forget it) cooper cabrio and that is great fun too and like all the best MINIs most fun in Les Vosges. mini (1959 and upwards) is fun in all conditions of course ;)
