2019 Cadillac Escalade | Aging Gracefully

  • Cadillac's Escalade may not be the freshest face in the large luxury segment, and indeed there may be a new model on the horizon for 2020, but that doesn't make the biggest Caddy in America feel old. Part of this is that the competition from Infiniti and Lexus has been essentially "phoned in" and part of it is because the Escalade is just a well thought out SUV.

      @guy proulx alfa romeo just passed honda in reliability. Im not in dissagreement that older gm, ford and chrysler vehicles have shit reliability (grand caravans chewed through transmissions) but newer vehicles have really brought their standards up due to the rise of Japanese car companies. The reason we still see the hemis and the ecotechs/vortecs is because they have just been sorting out bugs and faults and improving them for 10+ years. Thats why new powertrains in most vehicles just aren't a thing.

    Very sad for the Navigator when the interior material quality is not higher than a 6 to 5 year old vehicle. not to mention it basically gets best fuel economy in class and it's just as fast as the Navigator with far less power. I can see everyone crying in the comment section all triggered that despite being so old in the luxury segment Escalade is still one of the best. The Escalade is literally in its final year and companies like Lincoln and infinity still are having a hard time competing.

    The entire limo (livery) service has moved over to the Escalade and its cousin the Chevrolet Suburban. If you go to New York City you will not see any traditional limousines anymore. It's all Suburbans, Escalades, and a few GMC Yukon XLs. The GM big SUVs dominate the field because they are rock-solid reliable and designed well. GM has something like 75% of the big SUV market.
    Regarding the ride quality, the reason for the not-so-plush ride is that GM uses a solid rear axle in back which is able to take the constant pounding these vehicle get, especially in places like New York City. However, I suspect the next generation of the Escalade might change over to independent rear suspension to keep up with the new Lincoln Navigator.

      I took a few ubers in suburbans/yukons in NYC and had no complants about ride quality. I think unless people really go out and test drive every vehicle in this class, they wont be able to tell that this rides slightly harsh. Compared to the majority of other vehicles on the road, the GM trio has a very comfortable ride.

    With all of the available trim levels and options, why in the Hell can't they offer a brake package upgrade to give this beast some serious stopping power; something in the 110 ft. range?
    At this price point, I don't see how a five or six thousand dollar Brembo package would be out of line. I'm not talking about ceramic discs or track packages; just some four (or six) piston calipers and some larger, premium quality discs and pads. Probably never will, IIHS has stated in the past they don't rate certain incredibly large/expensive SUVs due to cost and because their weight advantages over other cars gives them a general leg up. Best way to figure it out is take a loot at the Silverado platform test that corresponds to the generation you want. First time roof strength seemed to be decent in these or the pickups (based on real world accidents and IIHS testing of the pick up) was with the start of this generation in 2015. 2014 and previous was still fairly pathetic.

I know Mercedes uses something similar but it serves more functionality and it isn't a complete throwback.

    We understand ride quality is different in a body on frame vehicle , this is a truck remember , and therefore you should be complimenting it , not nagging about it the 10 or 12 times through your video . The comparisons to crossover suv are null and void in my opinion as they cannot tow or haul NEAR as much or as well as this one does. It’s like saying a Ferrari is fast , but we were unhappy with the off-road capability .

    • @Ficon
      @Ficon 5 років тому +4

      Justin Bouche You should educate yourself before accusing others of ignorance. Atlas is built on the MQB platform that is not shared with Q7 or Cayenne. The difference there is that Q7 is a distinctly different vehicle than Porsche Cayenne, for example, inside and out, mechanically and dynamically. An Escalade is a Suburban with a different grille and a nicer interior.

      From what I see, these aren't family SUVs but useful in the Black Car market or basically executive-level limos. One or two passengers, backed out side windows, really good reading lights and a driver who knows where his passengers live without having to give them directions. These cars are what has replaced the Lincoln Town Car for executive travel.
