I had the opportunity to road trip in a 2022 with the Diesel engine. It had plenty of power and excellent fuel economy for what it was strapped to. At a full tank it showed over 600 miles of range and we averaged 24mgp on the highway. And yea, that sound system was incredible.

Most car reviewers never fail to laugh at the low specific output of GM's larger V8s, but they always fail to realize that torque is the focus. The 623Nm that the Escalade makes is available from way down low, and that's what you need to haul 2.7 tons of Cadillac. The little A45S has a 2-liter with 30psi being force-fed into it, whereas the GM 6.2 is understressed in comparison. It takes a minute for the A45S to build boost. Moreover, if the naturally aspirated Cadillac did make a significantly higher horsepower figure, it'd be much harder for it to pass emissions tests. Peak numbers don't tell the whole story. That aside, I thoroughly enjoy Mat's reviews and this one is no different. He gave the Caddy a fair shot, which is more than can be said for most American car cynics/critics. Keep 'em coming. 👍
A fair point when you're comparing a hatchback to an SUV. But the N63 4.4l V8 in the current X7 M50i does 523hp and 750nm of torque in an engine two thirds the size and the torque is available lower down in the rev range. So yea, GM V8s can't do power OR torque well. And before you claim NA vs. Turbo, the Mercedes M159 6.2l V8 can do 622bhp and 635nm in NA form. So even with the same displacement and similar Torque the Germans manage to get another 200hp out the engine.
@@cmtlr As much as I love BMW SUVs, I can say with almost absolute certainty that the GM V8 will outlast the N63 as a result of being understressed and mechanically simpler. While I respect BMW's engineering, I'd hate to be the guy footing the bill when the N63 gets recalled once again for oil burning issues and the like. Fantastic engine on paper, but its track record is less than ideal. As for the M159, maybe it's best that we don't bring high-compression, high performance dry sump V8s (where shooting for peak numbers is the aim) into this. It's also worth noting that the reason the M159 is long gone is because it wouldn't be able to cope with today's emissions standards, which is something GM's 6.2 does (if only barely).
@@alvie4148 I was just using like-for-like comparisons for ease. I would theorise that if big, American V8s were a byword for reliability then they would be powering vehicles around the world. Instead they struggle to sell outside of NAFTA.
@@cmtlr Because people are prejudiced about them. How many people know that the 7liter ls7 can get 30mpg and weighs around 450lbs? You would see 7 liter pushrod and automatically write it off. Loved this review. This car just does not work over here with a tiny roads and parking spaces compared to the USA - why would anyone buy it over here? Never seen such a wide front armrest with storage compartments😳
To be honest European SUVs like GLS, X7 or Benteyga aren’t exactly small. So the Cadillac Escalade (the regular model) will fit those parking spots and roads just as well. ESV model which was featured in the video may be too large, but it’s very practical if you have a huge family.
European vans like the sprinter van or ducato are far bigger than Escalade ESV and people drive those around cities. It’s definitely doable for this car.

Sport mode, Matt. That 420 horse power will hustle that bus quite “cheekily”. More so had you opted for the shorter wheelbase model. As for the exhaust sound… you reviewed the grocery-go-getter. If you were looking for the muscle-car luxury Escalade… the V series is your huckleberry.
Let’s drive the “luxury” spec of a large truck based SUV and complain about the lack of driving dynamics Could be the most British thing you could do during a automotive review.
@@Olliebobalong I’m not a 100% sure but I believe there is more to the sport package than just the appearance… at least the other Cadillac lines have a palpable difference. Especially the XT6. Great, witty review. Matt; why do so-called luxury cars now not have seat belts which match the colour of the leather seat trim? They used to and when they did, they appeared more luxurious rather than cheap??? Keep the funny stuff coming- brilliant
Does it really matter the seatbelts doesn't match the colour of the seats? Regarless the colour of the seat, the seatbelt buckle will still have a red button.
It absolutely matters if it matches. It’s also becoming hard to choose non-black seats and not have a coloured-seats-in-a-black-car interior. Basically only Mercedes and Volvo still offer a proper one-coloured intererior, and even then only in pale beige. Why can’t we have brown seats in a brown interior? It just looks cheap. Part manufacturers being cheap with materials and part because dark dashboards seemingly now have to wrap around to the door rails, so everything has to look two-tone…
A 420 HP 6.2L engine is gonna last longer than a 421 hp 4 cylinder. Also it make more torque and therefore would likely better gas mileage carrying that much weigh

I prefer this over the Merc or BMW tbh. It’s for the rich family who just want comfort and practicality over almost other things. And it looks great too. This review needed to be less prejudiced against American makes 😂
It's general motors...so its not that great...I unfortunately know from experience. It's a nice looking vehicle though
Why? US made cars are just disguised trucks with shitty quality.
@@wince_moeron I used different brand of General Motors and were very reliable, without problems.🙏🏻

One of the best cars I have ever owned, luckily mine was supercharged by Callaway so was the SC560. However these cars are not suited for the UK roads, ideal in US and UAE.

The escalade is lovely, so many seats nice leather interior and is big, good enough for a big family road trip
0:20 hate to be THAT physics nerd, but regardless, if something has mass (which is pretty much everything) - it has it's own gravity.
If you launch it properly. The Escalade will do 0-60 in just 4.8 - 5.2 seconds and a quarter mile of 14.1. Some with the Yukon do and suburban
Not bad for a small flat on wheels
That's about a week faster than my Cummins. I'm in the 7.5 to 8.5 seconds 0 to 60. Bigger issue is the stopping distance of your average freight train.
Damn Matt, you still make me smile anytime I watch man, way to go!
I find it very luxury for the price and escalade is one of the most badass car ever :)

I grew up in Suburban SUV's and large American trucks. But the other day I was rounding a corner in my Golf GTI and came nearly nose to nose with the latest 'Slade and I have to say that this iteration is the most gargantuan of them all, seemingly more massive than just the last model. And, it makes me giggle to watch you respond to its heft.

The button in the rear of the car to raise and lower the air suspension, I think is more to do with raising a tow bar up to a trailer.

The most impressive SUV in the world, park RR beside Cadillac RR will look not so expensive... the same with Mercedes G-GLS...
I like this car, it's unnecessary big and driving it in my town with narrow streets gonna be a pain in the ass but I want it, it's worth the trouble.
It's made for America not those extra narrow, overcrowded streets in Europe, that's why even those semi's are half of ours. 🇺🇲💪🏼
You are right. It is worth it.
My vehicle is close to 8' wide, and has the turning circle of the average oil tanker but driving it brings a smile to my face every time. Plus I don't get many speeding tickets due to the 4t empty weight.
So hard to please Mat 😂 He’s very meticulous when it comes to Materials Quality, pointing the Escalade isn’t on the same league as the X7. Also stated Escalade is not as smooth riding as the Maybach GLS. Why not compare it with the standard GLS instead?
Yeah, You have to take his reviews with a grain of salt, Especially when he’s reviewing a US car.
@@commonsense3921 he often Nitpicks.
Flip off it's an SUV it's meant to be big and long a roomy. It's built for that purpose
I love the sound of the back row folding down, the motors sound like cute puppies 😂
Loved this review. This car just does not work over here with a tiny roads and parking spaces compared to the USA - why would anyone buy it over here? Never seen such a wide front armrest with storage compartments😳
American car companies don't care about England. I myself love Bentley though
Nothing else than driving a pickup truck

Sport mode, Matt. That 420 horse power will hustle that bus quite “cheekily”. More so had you opted for the shorter wheelbase model. As for the exhaust sound… you reviewed the grocery-go-getter. If you were looking for the muscle-car luxury Escalade… the V series is your huckleberry.
Mat + “Shagwagon” = best road trip ever.
If you haven’t done the TRX you should. That is the most BRUTAL experience I’ve ever had! 😅

4:28 so instead of getting into the rear down the middle, you chose the folding seat method? Got it.

😝 the way I've been waiting this review for Matt
I love the way this man does his reviews
Let’s drive the “luxury” spec of a large truck based SUV and complain about the lack of driving dynamics
Could be the most British thing you could do during a automotive review.
The chrome pieces of trim and different bumpers would not affect driving dynamics
@@Olliebobalong I’m not a 100% sure but I believe there is more to the sport package than just the appearance… at least the other Cadillac lines have a palpable difference. Especially the XT6. I remember being surprised by it… the luxury one is almost terrible. The sport model is actually quite nice.
I was waiting for this since I work at Cadillac to see what Matt thinks. And my god, he’s correct. Those things are as Matt said “HUGE!”

I totally use my old Suburban as a shag wagon. Full mattress fits perfectly. For those camping/shag adventures.
A 420 HP 6.2L engine is gonna last longer than a 421 hp 4 cylinder. Also it make more torque and therefore would likely better gas mileage carrying that much weigh
I guess he’s not an engine guy and doesn’t know what he is talking about.
Also the V8 is N/A and the 4 cylinder is turbocharged.
He's just looking for any reason to criticize American cars.
@@kevinr6871 I know.
Cant you just have a switch that gives different power options? 420hp does seem like a small amount for such a massive engine
