Here's an affiliate link to the lock: amzn.to/2Jq9lOg I also bought Schlage’s matching matte black door handle from Home Depot at this link: thd.co/2Ndrpwv I like this one because it doesn’t have a lock on it, so I don’t have to worry about getting locked out. The title says it’s for hallways/closets, but it works just fine for exterior doors as well.
I've tried a lot of electronic locks and currently using my favorite. Can you review KeyWe electronic lock. It even works with smartthings! And extremely nice price when compared to most others. It's like $150
Just some information in case people run into the same issue I had : Schlage locks come with a larger than universal back shield, which means most likely you will need to enlarge the hole on your door if you went from Wiser to shlage. Had to return mine hours after buying it because lock smiths quoted me 264 cad dollars to do the job.
I don’t know how you do your video editing BUT you can actually block certain frequencies to prevent Alexa from hearing commands. A slick way to do it. But people seem to love commenting about how thankful they are soooo
I have heard of that but haven't been able to figure it out. I use Final Cut Pro to edit and I know how to block frequencies but for some reason when I tried it was still getting triggered. I'll have to give it another shot though for future videos.
Hi! I bought the latest smart lock from schlage at home depot and cannot enter the password on the APP and the smart lock screen at the same time, what I mean is that if you use the mobile APP, you cannot enter the password on the smart lock screen to control schlage. I called I asked their company on the phone and they told it was impossible, do you know which kind of smart lock will work,Thank!
Thanks for the review. I have the smart connect and like it but it has to connect to the Apple TV and since my Apple TV is far from the front door the connection rarely works. I like the fact this one works over wifi. Much better. The battery usage is not bad with 6 month to get a lock that stays connected. I also like the idea that you can use a code to open it with Alexa or Google Home. That way, no one can holler into your living room open window, “Alexa open the front door” and then break into your house.
I really like this lock but every other lock on our house is Kwikset. I previously had the Kwikset 914 smartlock and it worked really well but only lasted 2 years before the keypad just stopped working. Not sure if it had anything to do with the front door facing east so the sun was directly on it for 6 hours or more daily. If I could use my Kwikset keys in this lock I would definitely get it but looks like I am going to have to go with another Kwikset. I do really like the smart key though.
What do you think about the Plus version that just came out? What's the difference from this one? I'm an Android user so was hoping you covered those topic. Thnx
Thanks for the vedio. Do you happen to know any Homekit locks can be setup only using the iOS Home app? Most locks require using the manufacuture's app to setup. Really don't want to install extra apps on my phone. thanks
Good looking lock. I have contemplated these for many years, however my front and rear doors on my house are new, and the seals are nice and poofy. To turn my deadbolt on the front door, I do have to apply some pressure to the door so the deadbolt can lock. I could tweak the strike plate I guess, if I really wanted these. The Z-WAVE one would integrate nicely with my current systems.
Thanks for the video. I just the same lock. Installed and running fine. However, the inside assembly is not complete flush against the door. Not sure if I did anything wrong. There is a little bit of gap between the inside unit and the door. Any ideas? Thank you.
@@SmartHomeSolver Thanks for the reply. I switched the screws with my original lock and everything flushed against the door. BTW, are you still using this lock?
That's great to hear! Yes I am. I tested out a lock for the Back to the Future video I did recently. After the video was over I switched the lock back the Schlage Encode. I really liked the Encode and I probably will keep it there for a long time.
Hope you're safe in Arizona I don't know how close you are to Vegas! I know there's been earthquakes all around felt. Be careful take care of your family and thanks for the great information
I just got this exact lock. I'm very happy with it, but out of the box I had a lot of issues with the App. Turns out the 2.4Ghz Wifi is not so good with my Nest Mesh Wifi. Whenever my wifi looses power, it can take a long time to reconnect. I did update the firmware and it got better, but once and a while it can loose connection. When it works, it works great and the codes are always there if you can't get in with the app.
@@adambernstein2393 I added another wifi to my house that is just 2.4G and things are much more stable. To be honest I didn’t even move the locks, just my light bulbs. I still recommend this lock family to friends! Coupled with my video doorbell, it gives me updates on what’s happening and allows me to grant access to family that lives nearby.
Something I haven't been able to figure out from all the reviews and marketing material: When used with the app on a mobile device that's connected to the same WiFi/LAN, will the app still be able to control the lock if the WiFi/LAN is working but there is no connection to the Internet? Another way of asking the same thing: Does authorization and communication between the app and the lock stay on the local area network when both are on the same network, or does it always go through a "cloud" server?
CoisesFoiledAgain I just installed one of these this afternoon. I’m running Eero and when I blocked the device from network I was still able to unlock & lock the door from the iOS Schlage app (both while iPhone was connected to home network & on cellular).
Hello, great videos. Convinced the wife and I to get this wifi lock that we were on the fence about. We have a glass sliding door in the back and would like a smart lock there as well. Is there such a thing? Couldn’t find one as of yet
No. Also remember that Bluetooth proximity can unlock while you’re passing by your front floor from inside your house. Can be a security issue. For example, running to the door with your phone, and looking through the peephole. You could let a stranger in by accident.
Why does every review only focus on the old fashioned code entry method? Come on this is 2021, everyone has a smart phone, why not show how the app and virtual key works. I want to see how to give guests access on virtual key. Why use codes when you don’t have to?
Nice review man, I'm about to pay a smart lock for my front door. I did some research and I like 2 smart lock witch is this one Schlage Encode and Lockly (what's I like about Lockly is it has a fingerprint). Please I need your opinion, I really care about controlling the lock from anywhere by locking and unlock, not sure if the locly have that future their not clear in there ads.
I need you experience in this field since you know about Smart Lock long time ago. Its my first time to get smart one :) so little confuse and don't want to west my money and regret later.
I saw Lockly at CES and it seemed like a nice lock. I'm pretty sure you can control it remotely but you might need like a little hub or something from them. It's been a while so I'm not 100% on that. I've only had good experiences with Schlage locks so that's the one I can definitely vouch for.
Alright I just found my notes from CES and yes Lockly did need a small hub from them that's $50 for it to work remotely. The only thing I would be concerned with is Lockly supporting the lock for a long time. I feel like it's less likely for Schlage to go out of business so that's just something to keep in mind.
. It won’t let me enter my programming code. The programming code is a 6 digit number. It only allows me to type the first 3 numbers and then there is a RED X and it won’t allow me to continue to add my code. Can anyone help? I have the Encode
Has your encode continued to function as expected? Amazon has enough 1 star reviews to make me worry for a moment, but I've always had great luck with Schlage quality. Have you had any issues with keypad or lock jamming?
Hi Brad. So far no issues at all. I’m still using it on my backdoor and it’s been working great. I have it automatically lock at night and I was closing the back door the same time it was trying to lock and it didn’t have any problems. I made sure there was plenty of room for the bolt lock to open and close and I think that helps. If you have to use a lot of force to close the lock it might be good to carve out the doorframe where the lock goes into. Also, yes you can manage the lock with all functionality when you are away from your house.
The locking cylinder is terrible in all Schlage locks. You need to take it out and have some security spools installed. This simple change will improve the lock 300%. If you don't believe me, look at all the lockpick videos making fun of how bad Schlage cylinders are. -BAG2
Doubt you can get away yet with current solar panels. Those motors are too powerful. That said, they should add an option to hook a cable to it and have the batteries as spare. I don't mind running a cable to the other side of the door. I love smart home stuff but the battery requirement with no options to run from powered lines is killing nearly 90% of the products to me.
There is one the has a super small slot on the bottom that you can press a 9v battery to it if the internal battery dies. It’ll power on just enough to open the door. I think it’s a lockly

Nice NEST screwdriver. Lol! Great video
Can you have 2 or 3 of these locks? Say front door, back door, and external garage? Or would they conflict on the network?
Do you have to use the WiFi adapter in order to unlock the voice command features?!

30 second max then it'll lock by itself.
