Great video. With all the different camera angles and fine tuning (extra chiseling, alignment techniques, replacing broken screws and even screw length), it's like being at your side while you actually install it.
Nice video. Whenever working on or replacing a strike plate, I always have on hand a small diameter dowel rod to 'stuff' the screw holes in the event the screws do not have an acceptable 'grab.' This is very common when folks over-tighten the screws during the original installation but something a homeowner has to deal with during an upgrade such as what Ray demonstrated with the Schlage Encode. The smaller dowels can be found at places like Hobby Lobby or even Walmart.
I was hoping to see how you removed the broken screw. :) I thought I was the only guy in the world that did stuff like this... When I watch THIS OLD HOUSE, you NEVER see mistakes :) I'm reinstalling my Schlage on a new door so I'm watching this as a refresher. Fortunately, I'm an old retired guy that works at a little hardware store so I have an endless supply of everything I need.

Thanks for your quick response. I hadn't gone far enough. Once I put the batteries in the lock, it goes through a few steps and automatically reversed the inside thumb turn. Easy install, great deadbolt.
@@filipiakm thanks for the questions, yes, the keypad is backlit. The home button is just an indicator light that the lock is engaged. Lock button is a one action button to activate locking.
So easy to install I can't believe I almost paid $125 to have it installed by locksmith. All I had to replace is the bolt that came with the lock, obviously. I had a kwikset previously and everything lined up perfectly.
Thanks for the video. My door is the same as yours, hinges on the left looking from the inside. My inside part (with the batteries) is set up for the opposite side. How do I change it? Must be possible as the pkg has no info whether left or right hinged. When I install it the thumb turn won't turn far enough to extend the deadbolt.

The plate you are installing (16:45)… Well mine does not have those little protruding nubs at the top. So I cannot complete the install of my new lock. Plus the package omitted that extra security plate. Ordered straight from Ring. Fulfilled by Amazon. So pissed. Now it’s a phone call and waiting game. 🤬
My deadbolt doesn't need a faceplate....I just need the roundish plate but how do I remove the faceplate off the bolt that comes when you get the deadbolt? I don't want to force it off.
I got this lock and it works great. Installation took me 5-10 minutes tops. My only issue is that you pay $200-250 for this lock and they only give you one key. Even the cheap locks at Home Depot typically give you two keys. Just annoyed me that they were too cheap to give you an extra key for when the batteries die.

Studio Rays I still like to have the key because you never know with technology and maybe the keypad starts acting up and doesn’t recognize your code. Still want to carry the key with me and use this more as a convenience to not have to use the key and for handing out codes to family.
Marc Jusino I carry only two 🔑. Car 🔑 and Screen door 🔑. And I wish I can Get rid of the screen door key so convenient not having keys. My wife loves the lock. And save time once you get used to it. Good luck 🍀👍

I bought one and kept getting a red light and could not use the user codes. Did factory reset 10 times, removed lock and re-installed still red light. Bought another one from Amazon and same red light after install. Factory reset and still red light. It's on sale for $50 less than Home Depot and Lowes. That may be why they aren't working.

I like your videos, they are real life. FYI, I had the same error issue. What you have to do when you screw the two pieces together, manually open and close the lock a few times as this seems to sync the lock positioning.
Hi. Thank you for the video. So I moved to a home that has a Schlage encoder deadbolt which is very nice. Only thing we are worried about is if there is a key copy floating around somewhere. Do you recommend for us to buy a whole new lock or take the lock to get re-keyed?

Kevin Wang not sure what you mean “inside assembly “ if you talking the knob side, make sure your screws are properly going into the keypad side. Everything should be flush the keypad side against the door and the knob side should be flush. Make sure you use the right length screws that came with the unit.

@@Leshgetit2025 I use rechargeable batteries and recharge once a month. But if I’m go on vacation I would recommend checking it before leaving. I specially like giving family members their own code when I’m gone very easy no worries on keys being a loss.
. It won’t let me enter my programming code. The programming code is a 6 digit number. It only allows me to type the first 3 numbers and then there is a RED X and it won’t allow me to continue to add my code. Can anyone help? I have the Encode

PreciseFN you have to do the set up Procedure all over again if you are having problems. So you may have to reset the 🔒 lock. But make sure that your app is on the same WiFi.

How does it perform in cold weather? I live in Chicago - It can get cold 😀. The electric keypad lock that came with the house works fine above 35°, but on the occasion it drops into the teens or lower, the keypad takes the day off. Thanks for the review and tutorial.

Idk why fragile screws would be used on a deadbolt assembly meant for security. I’m replacing all those screws with SS screws.

You have to check your alignment to your door frame. If the lock mechanism it not aligned properly you will get an error code.

You have to disconnect the unit. And reinstalled it. Take batteries out and let power down for couple minutes. Please I hope this helps.

Our lock disconnected from wifi and we replaced the batteries still won't connect.Please Help!
