For a few years now have had the Camelot version of Schlage coded locks on every exterior door of our present house and have loved them. Never have to carry a key although they have key access if needed. Recently bought the Encode Smart WiFi version for a new house that we are moving to and saw them at a friends rental cabin who is also a realtor and through the app she can set a code from her phone remotely for access to renters or delete a code remotely. She also gets notifications when they are accessed. Loved the idea so I bought two for the new home and can't wait to install them. Leaving the ones at our current house for the new buyers which will be an absolute plus for them. I personally am a Schlage fan and would sell them if I could. People may think they are a little pricey but one has to pay for quality and how can you put a value on home security. Recommend Schlage and these highly and I don't say that about every product I buy!!!
Can you say more about replacing the cylinder with Schlage Primus? I'm curious about the process and how I'd get the Primus cylinder and whether any modification is necessary for using it in the existing Encode Plus lock body.
They said when you install you shouldn't use a drill or tighten those last 2 machine screws to tight as it may damage the lock. Great video thanks for the share
Tapered deadbolt is a nice feature. Gives you some extra play with the strike plate. Took me roughly 10 mins to install and configure this. One drawback though, is that it's easy to configure for Alexa to lock the door with the Schlage Home App, you have to manually configure Alexa to unlock the door.
I installed 2 electronic deadbolts for a customer last month that they bought off Amazon-they didn’t want the Schlage. No key over ride and only 2 entrances into the house. I asked what happens if the internet goes down or their phone dies, battery dies, Also the lock locks itself after a few minutes.
Great video. Thanks! We have a Schlage Connect that we want to upgrade to the Encode, since we have an Alexa hub and I don't want to buy a Z-wave hub just to have the remote capabilities.
Yes you can set up Alexa to operate it. You have to set it up with a voice code for security. I just got it with my new condo and Amazon Home Services set it up for me.
We have a vacation rental and live far away. If the lock has problems, can I troubleshoot the Encode Plus remotely and reset it? Is it android compatible? We are not going to try and integrate this with a smart home.
Can you bypass these types of locks as you do sentrysafes and other locks? Edit: scratch that question. Apologies, i just read the same question in comments lol... So the magnet trick will only screw the electronics in it. Not open deadbolt part right?
You mention you don’t see why not rechargeable batteries but it’s because rechargeable batteries (NMH) are 1.2 volts and disposable batteries are 1.5 volts. Depending on the electronics of the lock 1.2 volt batteries might cause problems. Lithium rechargeable batteries are 1.5 volts but are very expensive.
Very helpful. I think they recommend no rechargable batteries because (of the different chemistry of rechargables) they are actually 1.2 volt. So with 4 battery operation, you are quite a ways off at 4.8v right from the gitgo - for alkaline you be over 6v.
Hi, I am looking for help, please. We went on a vacation and the battery has run out. We did not take the key with us so now we are locked out. Can you please let us know what we can do to open the door? Is there a way to jumpstart the lock? Thanks
We installed one on a door that we don't have the spare key for readily available and cannot get inside it has no jumper points of contact on the outside that we know of any help or do we just have that thing busted off and replaced with something different?
Hello. I just purchased this deadbolt and was wondering what high security cylinder you would recommend to replace the one that comes with the unit. Thank you very much
@ 11:40 I can not get this thing to flush up to the door.I dont know if it's the square plug interfering or something with the metal plate. For all of the thought they put into this a definitive spit for the cord would be real effing handy
Im 2 hours into trying to fit this wire in. Anyone out there thinking of buying thes flawed pos dont do it to yourself. Im 5 minites away from telling the building owner to send it back.
Hi Sr. Terry It is possible you can tell me the thickness of the door where you installed the lock. I would really appreciate it !! It is to recreate a that same thickness in sheet metal.
Alkalines have higher voltage than rechargeable, noticed that in my Logitech wireless mouse where the battery level sits a tad lower fully charged vs alkalines
The Schlage Encode is a residential lock and does not support Auto Unlock at this time. Note: Most Commercial grade Electronic locks have Auto Unlock with a Holiday Schedule too.
Are there any smart locks with two locking mechanisms operating off the same key pad? My old door has a key hole in the circular door handle plus a deadbolt. So in theory it seems as though that would make it somewhat harder to kick the door in. Would you recommend someone buying a second system for the same door? (Two key pads might get tiring though) Thanks for the great content sir!
How can I upgrade this lock to be hack free? Here in Europe the “Bulgarian” methode is very popular. The simply twist-break the cylinder and then pull it. Or drill and pull it. On my European doorlock I have a pull prevention kit, but that doesn’t fit in this lock. So how can I make this lock safe?
Good question and I can’t find any way to turn off the Bluetooth on any of the Schlage Electronic Deadbolts. The Bluetooth does have good encryption and we haven’t defeated it yet.
@@24hrMrLocksmith Thanks for the reply. I'm honestly surprised that they didn't give owners the ability to control those for when/if they didn't want to use them.
I tried swapping out my old deadbolt cylinder but the bar was too long that goes into the cylinder, plus it didn’t line up correctly. It was easier to just have the guy at HD rekey it. Basically saying it probably can be done because the cylinder was the same but just wasn’t worth the hassle.
I’m an elderly single woman. I had my locksmith come & I told him to put on the best lock available. So he said he did. Then a friend came over & picked it in just a few minutes. So please recommend a good lock for me. Thank you!
Digital mechanical lock with no key or battery. Something like a lockey 210. Anything with a key can be picked. And Electronic ones can be opened with nothing more that a Magnet held close to to magnetic relay that unlocks the lock.
. It won’t let me enter my programming code. The programming code is a 6 digit number. It only allows me to type the first 3 numbers and then there is a RED X and it won’t allow me to continue to add my code. Can anyone help? I have the Encode
According to the specs on the Schlage website the Encode is NOT Bluetooth. It is WiFi only. More importantly it will not work with HomeKit. It will not work with z-wave or Zigbee devices either. Schlage produces good locks but it is really corporate nonsense to have three different locks (Encode, Sense and Connect) where they could easily integrate WiFi, Bluetooth and Z-wave into one lock. It is utterly confusing to the average consumer.
Standard rechargeable Ni-MH, like Eneloop, batteries won't work because they are only 1.2v each. 1.2 x 4 only gives you 4.8v versus the 6v of throw away Alkaline batteries. A solution to this is the rechargeable Li-Ion batteries that output 1.5v each. If you are using rechargeable batteries, I'm going to assume you have at least 2 sets. They are lithium, so you have the "single beep and they are dead" issue, but you should have a second set already charged to immediately replace the dead ones. Problem solved.
Terrible lock I had the wireless one with the app and it can be brute forced in less then 5 minutes the convenient part is it even tells you when the hacker opens your door. Right on your phone for you. Stay away from devices that are nest and alexia integrated as these are even easier to brute force. Shame on this locksmith for saying it is a good product. If you want security dont get wireless bluetooth or wifi. You've been warned.

Is it possible to hard wire these for power? I've done that with my Ring doorbells and would love to continue the no-battery tradition.
Not this version or other Residential lock that I am aware of.
Can you explain the purpose of the bottom door handle? Are you suppose to rekey it to match the deadbolt or have 2 separate keys? thanks

Just to clarify you can rekey with the key you already have for your house? Currently have Schlage deadbolt. Thanks in advance.

Can it adjust for install on interior and exterior (different thicknesses) doors?
