We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
Thanks Robert, I decided to go with this one after watching all 3 videos. It was super easy to install. Phone app works great, it took Alexa a couple of tries to connect. It took about an hour, most of time was the software part and doing the firmware update. It would have been nice if Schlage included 2 keys instead of just one. This replaced a SimpliciKey deadbolt. That lock started to bind and take 2 or more tries to open even after replacing batteries.
Thank you for the video, you made it so easy and understandable to install, I always use your locks for my projects as a home remodeler, this is the first time I consider the WiFi lock, I could use this for my elderly parents, and for my home. Glad I could help. We finished the comparison video of the three most popular brands last week. You should check it out. ua-cam.com/video/P7j6PnZZnR8/v-deo.html
Very informative. Seems like each smart lock has its pros and cons. You didn't talk about the quality and security of the keyway. Is it high security? Can it be easily picked? Thanks for the review.
Glad it was helpful! Yes, we focused on the capabilities of the lock. The keyway protection would be the same as any other generally available lock (no better, no worse, not great). But in the Yale lock, you can upgrade to a high security cylinder and gain quite a bit of security. We talk about that when we chose our favorite 2020 Smart Lock. ua-cam.com/video/P7j6PnZZnR8/v-deo.html
The newer locks seem able to recognize and pull out the 2.4 GHz signal from the hybrid routers without issue. But no home security device on the market that I am aware of at this point will work off of 5 Ghz signal.
Yep the Yale. It's my favorite lock, and it's on the front door of my home. You can buy it without the Wi-Fi option and upgrade it later if you decide you want to. www.acmelocksmith.com/buy-safes-online/yale-touch-screen-bluetooth-deadbolt-yrg426.html
The lock supports multiple phones. The new person installs the app on their phone or waits for an invite from the first installer (admin). The admin uses their app and goes to "Manage Users", then click on the "Virtual Keys" section on top, and tap the plus sign (+). This sends the previously mentioned invite to the new person. It can be an email, SMS, Facebook message, etc. The invite contains a link to install the app and a 4-digit confirmation code. After you click the link and enter the code in the Schlage app, you have control of the lock just like the admin.
Found the review very interesting. I have a Schlage in my FL house that I had to use SmartThings to be able to access it. Is this a better option for long distant control?
This will allow you to access the smart lock from anywhere you have a connection via your phone. The lock itself will connect from anywhere it can reach the routers wifi signal,
Glad it was helpful! If you haven't already, here's our video where we compare the three most popular smart locks. ua-cam.com/video/P7j6PnZZnR8/v-deo.html
Hi, I have a problem with this lock. The first time, everything is fine. However, the problem happens when I adjust "Wireless Security" in the wifi modem to WPA2-PSK, the lock cannot connect wifi internet. After that, I changed to WPA2-PSK+ WPA-PSK, the lock can't connect the internet too. I contacted Schlage customer service for more than one week I have not got a response. Via the channel, can you support men to fix the error?
The only issue I've seen is that some of the modern routers were automatically toggle between 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz. None of the electronic deadbolts will support that. When you bought it they have a customer support number that came with it in the box. Keep trying them. They've always been very responsive whenever we needed them.
Hi. Is it possible to program the lock so it is controlled by two different family members' phones? I know I can give someone an access code, but if another family member wants to have the Schlage app to unlock and lock the door remotely, can I do that? Do I make two different accounts on the phones or just log into the Schlage app from the second phone with the original Schlage username and password?
You'd want to contact Schlage customer support for that question. I've never tried it. You can chat with them on their website here: www.schlage.com/en/home/smart-locks/encode.html
As we mentioned in the video the code length is 4 to 8 digits. The issue is if you ever decide to change the length of the code you have to reset everything in the lock.
i call two days to customer service of schlage, they don't answer ? I have Schlage Encode smart! one week ago i installed! i have question ,how i can go in without numbers code, and my phone is in my pocket? and another question : wen i installed aps to my wifes phone,my aps stopped?

I'm sorry, the giveaway has already occurred. But thank you for watching and we are going to review a new smart lock product soon and give it away as well.
If there's no way to get it to broadcast both, then no smart lock will work. They all require 2.4ghz. Some will support the dynamic dual band routers though.
@@LocksmithRecommended the router blinks on both 5 and 2.4ghz but i read complaints and one solution to walk far away from 5ghz to get 2.4 signal. I have never deal w this issue before and would have to test the solution otherwise return if it doesnt work
@@sheelaghortega2813 Sounds like a dual router. Here's what I did to get a dedicated 2.4ghz. ua-cam.com/video/xfnNCVpn7b4/v-deo.html But most of the new smart locks I am receiving can automatically work it our so long as it is dual band.
I’ve found these locks to be pure garbage! Keeps going off line and having connection issues. I replace with a August lock and haven’t had any issues at all.
This is my first time dealing with a security lock and door. This video and your plain, to the point in explaining everything, was on point. I now full 98% comfortable, in my decision to purchase this lock to use with my already installed Ring Alarm bell system.
Had this installed by Schlage, he left me the manual which has the Program code and two factory user codes. You would think the manual would have instructions how to change the factory user code to a personal code. It does not. I called Schlage and was on hold for over 20 minutes so I hung up and went on UA-cam where I found your video. I have not set up wi fi yet so just want to change the code on the keypad for now. Your video is great on instructions though the wi fi app, but wish you showed how to change codes on the pad itself. Again, great video, but can you believe Schlage didn't put instructions on how to change codes on the manual and can't get through on the phone in 20 minutes.
This is probably one of the best looking smart locks on the market and the true Grade 1 commercial rating is something you should really be considering when protecting your home.
I have always used Schlage locks in my house and rentals. They are expensive but they are well made. To be able to pair with the cell phone is great. I can manage the Schlage encode remotely for cleaners and tenants.
Peter, does the remote access to the lock (via smart phone app) operate even if your tenants have their own wifi that is not connected to the lock itself?
@@tbird6234 the lock needs wifi to be able for you to control remotely. I have wifi in my house, so I can control via my iPhone, and I can set a code for the tenant to operate the lock. If I do not want to have my own wifi,I can use the tenant’s wifi.
We have one of these locks on our condo and I can tell you this has given us complete control of who’s going in and out and knowing if the door is being tried and knowing who’s trying to do it. It has worked flawlessly but if it stops today I will go out and purchase another if it can’t be fixed.
I recently bought a home with the Schlage Encode Smart Lock installed. I reviewed your UA-cam video to figure out how to download and use the app with the lock. Your excellent presentation made it easy for me to set up the app with the lock. Thank you for your informative presentation. Even non-techies could set up this lock using your video. Well done and thanks for your help.
I didn’t buy the lock I’m not connecting this shit to WiFi, but trying to find an instruction manual to add and delete codes without WiFi is a pain in the ass.
Why is it that these companies don't make it so that the auto-lock feature only locks when the striker or strike plate is detected. Deadbolts are not slam locks and shouldn't be designed to act like one. Most people depend on slam locking as a default to insure ease of securing their property without thought or special instructions. This auto-locking feature is actually an auto locking disabler.
I lost my old dead bolt for my schlage connect, this would be a great replacement. What I like about this is how quiet the locking mechanism is. My old schlage connect lock was toooooo loud.
Thank you for taking the time to share your review of the Schlage Encode lock. My one comment: I wish you would have included in your review on how easy or difficult is it to re-key the keyed lock portion of the hardware. Kind Regards Kevin
Great point! We were focused on the features for this Smart Lock Video series. Any locksmith can rekey these up to match your house key. If you take it to their shop, it should be around $10. The Kwikset Halo we reviewed, can be easily rekeyed by any home owner. Check out our video, How to Rekey a Kwikest Smatekey: ua-cam.com/video/D2g9uHqUmPo/v-deo.html and our article, How Much is it to Rekey a Lock? www.acmelocksmith.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-rekey-house-locks/
Sorry if you have already answered this but is it possible to use/change codes without having wifi on this lock? Our rental property’s wifi is not very reliable so I want something that can work without wifi (and also be able to change codes without being connected to wifi either).
You can. But once it's connected to a Wi-Fi it stays wifi. But if you don't want to use the Wi-Fi feature there are much more affordable locks. We recommend this one as a basic electronic lock. amzn.to/3GXqNHI
Just purchased this lock. We would like to set up the wifi. But can it be used just manually too? If my son or my neighbor needs in. Can they access in if the wifi is set up?
It will come default with two pre-programmed user codes so can be used without wifi with those codes. I'm not knowledgeable with wifi security protocols so I don't have a good answer for that bit.
I have this lock and love it but mine just said lock jammed and I’m not close by and hope it will unlock when my guest needs to open it - any words of wisdom
The lock supports multiple phones. Once it's on the first phone, add an admin user and send them the invite. The invite contains a link to install the app and a 4-digit confirmation code. After you click the link and enter the code in the Schlage app, you have control of the lock just like the admin.
Great review of this lock. I own one and it works great but there are 2 quirks I've noticed with it. 1) It doesn't like brand-new lithium AA batteries. When I bought it, I thought I'd be clever and put the longer lasting lithium batteries in it so I wouldn't have to bother with it for awhile. I'm referring to the disposable lithiums, not any of the rechargeable types. The lock gave me an error message that indicated I should replace the batteries, like they were dead. Tried another set, same error. Put new alkaline batteries in and it's been working fine ever since. A new set of alkaline batteries last me about 6 months or so. 2) There are times when the app logs me out but doesn't alert me that it's done so. This definitely happens after the app gets an update but at other times too. When it happens, I don't get notifications that the door's been locked or unlocked. Is it annoying... absolutely. Could it be dangerous... perhaps. Anyway... love the videos and I NEED this lock for my back door. I hope I win!

I have always used Schlage locks in my house and rentals. They are expensive but they are well made. To be able to pair with the cell phone is great. I can manage the Schlage encode remotely for cleaners and tenants.
Great product. Thanks for watching.
Looks like a good and easy lock to use. I hope it is not breachable using WiFi jammers.
Glad I could help
I didn’t buy the lock I’m not connecting this shit to WiFi, but trying to find an instruction manual to add and delete codes without WiFi is a pain in the ass.
I'm discovering this video after already purchasing the lock and having it installed. I am extremely satisfied.
Awesome. Good choice.
These things are awful, if you aren't a computer genius.
I'm with you on that!
I like the different finishes and this one is Level 1. Which smart lock is the easiest to use? A comparison / top choice video would be nice to have.
Great point! Turn on notifications. It's our next video coming out.
I lost my old dead bolt for my schlage connect, this would be a great replacement. What I like about this is how quiet the locking mechanism is. My old schlage connect lock was toooooo loud.
Fick Schlage. Rather go with lock and key.
I like it.

If the Wi-Fi goes out, will the lock still work? I lost the key to my lock.
Yep. www.acmelocksmith.com/articles/will-smart-locks-work-without-internet/
If it has been working well for a long time the only thing I can think of is change of temperature has caused the bolt not to align well to the frame.
You did not mention how to or even if you can set this up to operate remotely from two different phone. Such as both mine and my wife’s phone.
Wayne! You're da bomb. Great information for everyone to have. Thanks you for posting! 👍
Good to know Wayne. I’ll keep this in mind when I get my lock.
I need this lock . I have a 22yr who doesn't understand how important it is to lock the front door.
Well, James, if you lock the door remotely for him/her they will never learn.
Nice video
