I fully agree on the Solstice being hidden thing. I played the first version years ago, then bought the Steam version because I wanted to support the creator, without knowing it had great improvements. Then I finished it and left it. I'm 4 minutes in and i gotta say that oneshot shouldn't be taken as a game in the first place. Like, its whole idea is breaking all thoughts and morals you have on that type of stuff; you need to at minimum consider it an interactive story, and at best a real experience for your life. The first time i played though oneshot chose to put back the sun, but in my head im questioning if i did the right thing, i went around the internet to find answers and i didnt find one and i didnt want for me to accidentally know what is the solstice ending is, at that time i only knew its the true ending but i still feel horrible knowing that i just left niko in the game, i replayed the whole game again by removing my files and did the same run with a few different decisions and chose to bring niko home. But then.... i still feel distressed that I made the decision, what happens to the world, are they real in the sense that niko's world is real? what happens to them? what happened when i left niko at the tower? My emotions were convoluted. So i decided i would finally try the solstice run the next day. Needless to say i wasnt ready for a roller-coaster of emotions, new puzzles, dialogue, lore, characters. I'll keep it short because i dont even know what to say but, this game is the best 4th wall breaking emotional roller-coaster of puzzles and characters (especially niko) of a game. I watched this video right after i finished the solstice run and boy you really did a great job explaining my experience. oh yeah radical opinion oneshot is better the undertale in the form of storytelling and the bond you build with the characters

sry for being off topic but it really caught me off guard seeing gd on your desktop lmao 19:52 and it also feels weird seeing the 2.2 when name after it has finally released, awesome video!!
Your point of view is very simmilar to mine, It's really hard to recommend this masterpiece to anybody, because the game is... You know, a walking simulator with cat-person holding a big lightbulb. I feel incredibly sorry for people who didn't like the game because of It's technical realization. The feeling of understanding that your friends can not like it is very bad. Take care and thanks for the content. Maybe my Niko-shaped hole will eventually be filled.
Talking about the music and how it makes the game feel alive… I’d have liked if you put “collapse” in the video, the theme that plays when the mines start breaking down… there’s where you understand what solstice is about, and it will make you think.. “maybe this was a mistake”.
I am so happy solstice exists lol, I chose to replace the sun in the hopes that there would be more game, there has to be right? This amount of 4th wall breaks? Surely there's a way around the "one shot" rule. solstice had a truly beautiful ending and I felt called out (deserved) for the ending I chose when I started solstice
Shoutout to that one guy on metacritic who claimed that there wasnt enough consequence to your actions, even though without deep file manipulation you are completely locked out of solstice twice and after solstice still technically not being able to play the game like it was on first playthrough again (i'm pretty sure twm runs exist only so you can get achievements if you missed them on the first run), also iirc on your solstice run niko remembers your decision at the top of the tower, i love looking up negative reviews of games i like, they are always hillarious
19:30 I played Oneshot like a few days ago so I don't know if they patched it or something. But my desktop changed similar to the second meta puzzle in the game, hinting towards the documents folder. Wasn't this a thing before?
As far as I'm aware, the desktop never changes to hint at Solstice. If I had to guess, what likely happened was you confused the black clover program for your desktop. When you open up the black clover program after beating the main game, it shows you a note hinting at Solstice, with a clear background. It might look like it changed your desktop, but it was probably just because the background of the program was clear and you confused it for your desktop.
9:57 this was my only real issue with the game that’s not just a nitpick. I just finished playing it and in my playthrough of the first ending, I wanted to save niko and not tell them of the consequences of doing so, as it didn’t feel right to do so for me. But at the elevator scene, the game forced me to tell niko the truth, which you could argue is the better option but it isn’t what *I* wanted to do. I ended up choosing to not destroy the sun as I didn’t want to burden niko with the guilt, and we didn’t know for sure what would happen to them. It really caused a bit of a disconnect between me and “my character”. Other then that though I god damn love that game:] Edit: dialogue options get especially bad at soulstice imo
Alr i decided to play the game before watching this video, we'll see how it goes, i'll edit this comment when i do 👀 Edit: i finished the game and WHAT THE HELL MY EMOTIONS ARE ALL MESSED UP NOW 😭
I accidentally confused myself on the first meta puzzle by mixing up my pc documents and my onedrive documents, then somehow using the clover to open a second game. It got even better when the code only worked once, so the other window was just stuck (somehow it didn't mess up my oneshot achievement). I wonder if that means there's an alternate niko out there stuck with no code...
That's actually only in the original OneShot, where you can kill Niko by closing the game. It was removed in the 2016 Steam release for gameplay purposes.
I might be very contrarian about this but I’m not really a fan of Solstice. Like, the game is about you having only one shot at saving the world with a very heavy moral choice at the end and I feel like Solstice kind of throws it away just to give you the happy ending everyone deserves. I mean, the narrative is still very thoughtful but the core idea of everything before the run being “pointless” because everything is a simulation is just lame, like come on.
I think that's a fair opinion. The game devs seem to have realized that since they included a section in the opening of the Solstice note that's like "if you consider the game complete as is then you can pretend this update doesn't exist." I personally like Solstice because it ties up some loose ends regarding the World Machine, but it does make the ending less heavy. Making the journey more dangerous helps justify the happier ending (in a Earn Your Happy Ending kinda way), but I can see why some might not see it that way.
I think that Solstice and the original game have to be taken as separate narratives, both take different directions and draw different conclusions that are equally valid.
I would recommend this game this type of player: loves cute thingy, enjoys game's own sensitivity, have patience but if you one of these, do not buy this game: doesn't want to be stucked at some point, wants great lore
@fordalels I mean, I actually saw various people complaining about lore. ...I'm concerned about where their lore standards are, but whatever, some people really complain about it, so I choose to say that it's not good at all.
In terms of affecting your computer, it will do absolutely nothing (even if it may not seem like it). The real problem is you watching a video of it. Depending on how much you know, it can ruin the game a bit for you.
Personally, I think there's enough evidence to suggest that he's long dead, but still wanted to have contingencies in case something went wrong with the simulation, which obviously setting did. Although, I plan on releasing a video on that in a few months, so keep an eye out.
@@pixelbit_ thats fair. so, you're suggesting the Solstice updates were something he included with the intent to have them activate should something go wrong? I have a counterpoint. What of the Rue Intermission? y'know, from the end of the first countdown timer. If he already finished the update and just set it to go off incase of an emergency, how come it wasnt finished and needed like, and extra week or something? How come Rue didn't know about this? And, minor aside, he ends a couple of his messages with "See you soon." What's up with that? Is he threatening our lives?
@@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj The "see you soon" messages are probably more of his way of saying "you're gonna see more of my notes later." As for the Rue intermission, I've never really thought about it, and it's a pretty strong argument for him still being alive (or at least, his AI). There's also the question of how canon the Rue intermission is, because if I remember correctly it was put there so because Solstice needed some polishes before it got released, so it was the devs way of saying "hey we're not done with Solstice yet."
@@pixelbit_To put more stock in the idea that The Author is Super Dead, if he was alive he wouldn't need the player to run the world, he could just do it himself. On a related note, do you think the world is a physical space that is merely generated from code, like a hologram, or is it a purely digital creation which elected participants can connect themselves to, like the matrix?
@@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj It's definitely purely digital. The Author created the world to be almost exactly like his own. The whole point of the world was to simulate what would happen if the Messiah came in time, and the Author wanted to remain as faithful as possible to his world.
There is something i dont understand about this, how is the player able to delete the save file withouth niko realising at first? I thought that meant niko was also a tamed robot, but then he mentioned how twm said that niko was the only actual living human in the world... i dont understand how someone who wasnt actually from said universe and had a human brain to be able to keep it as a memory just stop remembering most of it.
In the original version of OneShot (released for free on RPG Maker), if you close the game then Niko will die. When the game was being revamped for a Steam release, the devs decided that it would be a bad idea to keep that mechanic, so they removed it. You can still get an achievement on the Steam release by beating it without closing the game, referencing the original game.
dude, your video is ofc great by why the hell are you calling genshin impact a bad game. not only wery rude way but also lying. paimon is NOT a main character. main character is a traveler. but yeah i will admit paimon sucks.

Other then that though I god damn love that game:]
Edit: dialogue options get especially bad at soulstice imo
Alr i decided to play the game before watching this video, we'll see how it goes, i'll edit this comment when i do 👀
Edit: i finished the game and WHAT THE HELL MY EMOTIONS ARE ALL MESSED UP NOW 😭
good luck:)
@@pixelbit_thank you SOO MUCH for convincing me to play the game, this was honestly the most amazing game experience i had
8:53 BASED
i wish i havent met that one friend that spoiled it for me :(
If you play this game, good job you've TAMED the cat.
Great vid, have a sub
Ur videos are great
you told me to play solstice i cried
yeah that's how it works
10:24 I saw that!
10:57 I can't be the only one that thinks that's hilarious
8:25 I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THERES A WAY TO KILL NIKO
That's actually only in the original OneShot, where you can kill Niko by closing the game. It was removed in the 2016 Steam release for gameplay purposes.
spoilers:
when i played each ending I got george to have the same personallity the one with the one dot one
Wait, there's a fast travel system? I have played this game multiple times to completion and never known about fast travel
The game devs seem to have realized that since they included a section in the opening of the Solstice note that's like "if you consider the game complete as is then you can pretend this update doesn't exist."
I personally like Solstice because it ties up some loose ends regarding the World Machine, but it does make the ending less heavy. Making the journey more dangerous helps justify the happier ending (in a Earn Your Happy Ending kinda way), but I can see why some might not see it that way.
solstice was added as a cope it wasnt in the original
I think that Solstice and the original game have to be taken as separate narratives, both take different directions and draw different conclusions that are equally valid.
I think its funny that when mentioning how it was made in rpg maker you show undertale which wasnt made in rpg maker
I would recommend this game this type of player:
loves cute thingy, enjoys game's own sensitivity, have patience
but if you one of these, do not buy this game:
doesn't want to be stucked at some point, wants great lore
if you suggest oneshot’s lore isnt good then im sorry to tell you that you cannot read
@fordalels I mean, I actually saw various people complaining about lore.
...I'm concerned about where their lore standards are, but whatever, some people really complain about it, so I choose to say that it's not good at all.
@@user_9346 have you played the game?
@fordalels yes, I played the whole game, and I enjoyed it. All I have now is empty room, tho.
@@user_9346 even solstice?
good video should have more views
I don’t play the game because first idk if it cost money also I’m scared of what it would do it my comeputer
Also I watched a video of it
In terms of affecting your computer, it will do absolutely nothing (even if it may not seem like it). The real problem is you watching a video of it. Depending on how much you know, it can ruin the game a bit for you.
10:24 I SAW THAT
19:12 you cannot hide it from me
@@Stage_3_Yawning_Cat I don't get it. What do you keep seeing?

Do you think The Author is still alive somewhere? If so, where? If not, then what's the deal with Solstice?
@@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj The "see you soon" messages are probably more of his way of saying "you're gonna see more of my notes later."
As for the Rue intermission, I've never really thought about it, and it's a pretty strong argument for him still being alive (or at least, his AI).
00:55 no. i didn't ;-;
At least ur not alone
Hmmm
No laptop, no pc
“Done crying?”
SHUTUP :(
No >:)

8:25 WHAT
WHEN IS THAT AND WHY IS IT POSSIBLE TO KILL NIKO
In the original version of OneShot (released for free on RPG Maker), if you close the game then Niko will die. When the game was being revamped for a Steam release, the devs decided that it would be a bad idea to keep that mechanic, so they removed it. You can still get an achievement on the Steam release by beating it without closing the game, referencing the original game.
Oh ok, but then how would people close the game? Was the only way to let Niko rest at a bed?
Yeah. If you tried to close the game other than at beds and the final puzzle where you close the window, you would basically game over.
:D
15:25 guess what ONE OF THOSE STUPID CHANNELS THAT COMPILES UA-camR REACTIONS SPOILED THAT FOR ME :((((
dude, your video is ofc great by why the hell are you calling genshin impact a bad game. not only wery rude way but also lying. paimon is NOT a main character. main character is a traveler. but yeah i will admit paimon sucks.
i stand by my point. genshin goes against every game design principle i've ever learned.
(for real tho, it's okay to like the game, i just really don't)
