I have a lot of hours in CK2. Thinking on this video, it must be the randomness, player choice, mods, and puzzles. Thanks for the video. It's weird how my fun can be explained.
The last games I played for thousands of hours were: Counter Strike, Diablo 2, and Dark Age of Camelot back in early 2000s when I was in high school, then didn’t really play anything for more than a couple dozen hours, maybe into the low hundreds, until Apex Legends came out in 2019. I love RPG games but often times the grinding stops feeling like progression and starts feeling like work. FPS games with the right mechanics can hold my interest for years because I yearn to improve my skills and get better, I don’t really care about content, it’s more of a sport. Diablo 2 is the only grinding game that ever captured my attention for years, Dark age of Camelot is an MMORPG but it was the PvP of that game that kept me coming back.
