Its funny how the fact sunny literally says nothing is only really emphasized by basil's dialogue. Like no one really asks you questions directly and if they do its rare that you respond. I kinda feel bad for basil when he is trying to talk to sunny. Must be awkward as heck
By the way Hero describes it, it seems Sunny never did talk much prior (he says Sunny hasn't changed. Which is I think a bit fitting to the games themes if true). I think this is backed up by Kel never once questioning why you don't talk despite spending a day with you. But I think by this dialogue from Basil we can probably guess that either A: Sunny was always quiet but now Basil is anxious and on edge so instead he feels he's being judged. Which I think fits, but isn't my fav explanation. Or B: Sunny didn't talk much EXCEPT WITH BASIL. I just love this idea so much. No one else thinks him not talking is weird, because that's normal behavior to them. But to Basil, it comes off as odd because Sunny did talk to him.
@@babycakelings Yeah i really like the second theory it makes a lot of sense. But i also like the first one because it would definitely fit with both Sunny's and Basil's characters. Either way, both of them are great. Thanks for sharing them!
@@Diamondfire5125 Yeah I think it's such a great explanation. But I honestly think the second one really fits well with the scene in Basil's grandmother room. I can't remember the exact quote but it was something like "you know she can't hear us right now Sunny." But I also think that may have instead been Basil wanting to talk about what happened with Mari so he wasn't alone, and not in any way an actual commentary on Sunny not talking.
I feel like something that people kind of gloss over is the fact that Basil knew how to tie a noose when he was, like, 12. He was probably dealing with mental health issues from the start, which makes his story even more heartbreaking.
Actually Basil has hanging plants in his room, and the knot you use to tie those is the noose knot, but I do agree he probably did have anxiety issues from the start.
It would make sense. There’s also a reason. We never see his parents. Ever. People often theorise that Basil was abandoned by them at a young age, that’s why his only known family is his grandma
And by the way even though he definitely had anxiety and/or depression, due to his own parents neglecting him, I still don't think basil wanted to die/hang himself, he loved his friends a lot, like a newfound family, they probably were his only reason to live, after meeting sunny and the rest of the group his mental health must have improved significantly. Sunny especially helped him a lot just by listening to him venting or infodumping about his favourite things like plants and books. Sadly, the Mari incident destroyed all beautiful things in their relationship and made it all worse again, but if that had never happened, basil would have been really happy with the gang. 💔
@@okokcool284 he probably didn’t want to burden anyone with his death, especially after mari. his hope that everything could go back to normal was a reason to live and also a showcase of his bad mental health
Basil is so misunderstood it pains me. Obviously what he did was very wrong, however, Basil was just a kid. He was panicking and that's why I don't blame him. I don't blame him for what he did even if it was wrong. Everyone deserves a second chance, especially Basil. Great video!
He clearly loves Sunny beyond what's normal, which makes for a really unhealthy mindset, weather it's platonic or romantic, no idea, in his mind he was truly only keeping Sunny safe
Actually Basil its a psycho, its sometimes messed up How everyone Just says "HES SOO SWETTIE OMGGG JUST A INNOCENT KID" when this Bro took a eye of sunny, have th Idea of hanging sis and besides that he is a manipulated child who thinks its doing a favor when he is the one that created ALL THIS bs, wantin sunny to stay with him forever on A WAY THAT ITS NOT OF A KIND AND GENTLE PERSON. I know sunny did a mistake but Basil turned out to be a psycho friend. Oh and i know he suffered, Bro Theres a Lot of ppl who suffered like him and dont Stab ppl and Go treated as a innocent bean
@@The_Hikikomoriyes even If he had good intentions on his heart, he turned out to be a manipulate person who wants to keeps sunny in a bubble while he takes Care of everthing, besides not being Healthy i dont like How ppl minimize what Basil done only bc he is cute and suffered, SUNNY SUFFERED TOO AND DIDNT DO ANYTHING TO GET A EYE RIPPED BESIDES ONE STUPID FIGHT WITH MARI
@@Rainbow.HarmonySbasil took sunny’s eye because, in his deluded state, he believed that he was attacking his something. on how he got the idea of hanging mari, it’s clear that even before the incident he wasn’t in a good state, and it’s likely that suicide was a common thought for him. in a panicked state, it’s difficult to make logical decisions; he didn’t choose to hang mari as a weird manipulation plot for sunny. also, basil does NOT think that he’s doing sunny a favor. he sees sunny as a good person that’s incapable of doing harm, and his creation of something was a delusion. he genuinely thinks something is real, and that sunny is a victim of it.
I just want to say that Basil is the most loyal person ever. He kept a soul crushing secret for four years, despite his friend peacing out and breaking their promise. He's the real deal and deserves the world! 🌻❤️🌻
He's the one who created those circumstances for himself though. It was entirely his choice to even HAVE a secret to keep. Obviously it would've sucked, but I'd hardly call it an act of "loyalty" when Sunny never asked for or wanted his "protection" in the first place. If anything, his intentions were selfish, and more about how HE didn't want to lose his best friend. If it were really about Sunny's wellbeing, he would've instantly realized that his decisions caused more to him than good (going into isolation should've been another indicator too). Considering he was locked up in his house four years, I honestly can't imagine Sunny cared whether Basil kept that promise or not. Especially since, IIRC, there's no indication that Sunny ever agreed to the promise in the first place. It happened on the day Basil showed Sunny his photo album, and Sunny responded to that situation by scribbling out the pictures. Clearly rejecting Basil's request for them to "make some new memories."
@@DLxxx Ok, I'll give you that Basil did took it upon his shoulders in a very selfish way, but again, he was a 12 years old from a small town. I'm pretty sure he didn't knew the difference between accidental manslauther from first degree homicide; he just knew Sunny killed his sister and that everyone says that people that kill other people are bad and bad people go to jail. He was as traumatized as Sunny and not thinking straight, Sunny completely shut down so he would'nt be able to explain himself, because Basil despite being a witness doesn't know the whole context. Even if in a misguided way, he knows that Sunny isn't a bad person, but he doesn't know the context of Sunny's frustration with the violin and the reason for the argument, but he knows Sunny would never kill his sister on purpose. That's why it's adamant that Sunny be the one to come clean at the end of the game. I stan my ground that Basil is still very loyal to Sunny. Even if it was a one sided promise, Basil keeps his part because he still believes in Sunny. Despite having a reason to come clean when Sunny leaves him to face the real world and the consequences alone for 4 years, and he's bullied for something he didn't do this time. As for the photo album, it's possible that Sunny didn't scribbled the photos out of hatred to Basil, but in order to repress the memories those photos represented, especially because, if i remember correctly, it was only the pictures with Mari in them that were vandalized. It's also possible that Omori had a hand in it: the bad neutral endings, where Sunny stabs himself give the impression that Omori can take control of Sunny's body a la sleepwalking, so maybe Omori was in control of Sunny in the first days after the incident, while he was most traumatized and in a daze.
@@Sophluvzz yeah and not to mention basil legit said he kept the secret cuz he didn't want any of the blame to rest on sunny, for sunny to get in trouble. Hell he himself didn't want to believe sunny could commit an act like that even by accident and knew that other people won't see it as an accident and would think sunny is a bad person, something basil could never see sunny as even when sunny unintentionally hurts him Honestly he did what he can when he was about 12 and can never predict it hurting sunny in the long run
I would also like to add that when Basil went missing, he was probably planning to commit suicide. He left home without telling anyone, and to the secret hangout spot that he thought nobody knew about and is not visited often. And when the Hooligans saw him he had a mental breakdown because he thought they would hurt him. Also, as you said, he is worried about people finding out about his bad mental state.
also him giving away his photo album. he mentions his memories are so precious to him, and suicidal people commonly give away some of their most precious and treasured items to people they trust before they end their life
i would like to add. in the 2019 build, after he is rescued from the lake, polly explains that basil ran away [to the park/hangout] from her while she was trying to console him; he was stressing out about his grandma's rapidly declining health. not that that's technically canon or answers the speculation, just some info. if you want to attribute it to canon, then comparing it with him using his grandma as an excuse to put off hanging with kel on 3dl (come to think of it, he wasn't even planning on them coming to his house) and then isolating after her death, it does sort of seem like he was already starting to suspect the outcome. you can ascribe it to simply wanting to be alone but i really do wonder even more about his plans at the hangout spot. it definitely seems like he was contemplating something a lot before actually entering.
Basil is probably the most unstable person in the group, him attacking sunny definitely had my jaw on the floor, it’s just so horrifying how basil snapped, It’s like you don’t expect someone like him out of everyone to hurt someone else, I hope in the best ending everyone gets free therapy and milk and cookies 😢
He was having a psychotic break because the friend he'd been trying to protect from the consequences of his own actions since they were small seemed to be abandoning him with the trauma AGAIN If anything, Basil is a trooper for keeping it a secret for so long
I think he held it the most together even more than sunny. Think about it. He saw that the sunny was capable of killing. No one else saw that. And due to him keeping the secret noone knows. I think his subconscious had him keep the secret for fear of his own life
In the end, Basil still couldn’t remove his trauma completely. But it makes sense because he was the one who came up with the idea, it’ll take some time for him to get rid of trauma and it makes a lot more sense when you think of it that way.
31:00 I'd like to mention that Sunny's smile isn't making Basil's something disappear, just fade away for that moment. Trauma isn't something that can just be cured, but over time, it will get smaller.
The glowing blue eyes make me think that Basil was also STRESSED OUT during the fight. I mean, Sunny got red eyes when he did, so why not? It's like poetry, it rhymes
Why didn't they remix Megalovania again? It's an Earthbound inspired RPG that Toby Fox made a song for the game. (I'm joking I just saw "glowing blue eyes")
I think the moment Kel, Sunny and Basil were going to look at the photo album, Basil might be hesitant because the last he saw the album the pictures were blacked out with marker and he doesn't know that after Aubrey took it she cleaned the photos, so in his mind he's scared when they open it, they'll see the photos blacked out and blame him like Aubrey did or even blame Aubrey, which is sad because at the same time he'd likely lie and say he did it if they saw the blacked out photos to protect Sunny...who I assume doesn't know he marked them or has a blind spot in his memory of doing that.
i think its really interesting how when Aubrey pushed basil into the water accidentally, it felt like a moment that relates to sunny pushing mari. Aubrey was forgiven, so what does that mean for Sunny?
That’s why I think Aubrey will be the first to forgive Sunny. I imagine while the others are processing such huge pieces of information about SUNNY and BASIL of all people, Aubrey would probably be angry at first, but then the moment she pushed Basil into the lake would flash into her mind. Then she would become really sad realising Sunny was in a similar, ultimately childish situation, that very unfortunately turned fatal in his case. Probably hug it out too. Meanwhile for Basil I think Hero would be the first to recognise his situation and forgive him, because a lot of people in the fandom often gloss over the fact that Basil knew how to tie a noose at 12. Also, just how would Basil and Sunny get away with it on their own? If Mari fell down the stairs, her it would’ve been apparent. In the autopsy. But no one knew? So Hero would come to the conclusion that the parents helped cover for Mari’s death to cover for the boys. You can see hints of this as you journey through Black Space. Sunny’s father denouncing him as his son while chopping down a tree, and Sunny’s mum saying “I can’t lose you AS WELL”. ‘As well’ could refer to Sunny potentially serving time if this got out.
loved the analysis. really shows how important basil is to the story, and how hes not the villain people make him out to be. honestly, framing a suicide would be the best option to *hide* the truth. cuz idk how people think 12y/os and also sunnys parents would react to a ‘oh im sorry i accidentally killed my sister after we had a fight and also broke the violin you all worked so hard to gift me.’ we dont know how the gang would react to the truth at the their current age of 16 and older, imagine if they were still kids. imo if basil didnt help him when the truth happened, when everyone found out, hero would distance himself from sunny, and aubrey n kel would start to avoid/bully sunny like aubrey did to basil. basil could also be peer pressured/bullied into staying away from sunny. so accidentally killing his sister, losing (probably)all his friends, losing his dad, his mom potentially start to mistreat him like aubreys mom does to aubrey (since sunnys mom is arguably negligent of him in game, she could start to treat him worse.)would probably drive sunny to commit wayyy sooner. basil at 12 knew how to tie a noose, so suicide at that age isnt impossible, and also since there are irl cases of children even younger than that committing bc of bullying/etc. tldr basil saved sunnys life by framing maris death as a suicide and sharing the guilt of maris death w him
I mean, I think it's implied that Sunny's parents know the truth too what with the hints left in Black Space 2 (Sunny's dad disowning him and Sunny's mom saying she'll protect him because she's his only son, ouch). And I agree that, in the scenario where the truth wasn't hidden, Hero would start avoiding Sunny and Aubrey would get mad at him, but I disagree that Kel would bully Sunny; Kel's shown to be a bit simple-minded and more than a bit energetic, but that just means that the simple fact that he cares about *all* his friends is the most important to him. He'd probably be the one working hardest to keep the group together, until everything was either resolved or fell apart spectacularly.
Omori fandom when some 12yo kid is feeling sad (theyre 100% gonna commit suicide) Jokes aside, long essay incoming, you cant just justify basil's actions because "oh theyre probably gonna kill themselves" that is just utter bs If anything, the framing only ruined his whole freaking life If the incident had been settled earlier NONE of the horrible things would have happened, its literally two twelve year olds, its not like theyre somehow gonna understand the trauma they are at And basil wouldnt even FEEL this bad because he would have had no involvement If basil hadnt covered sunny's ass, at the very least kel would have stayed and hero would have gotten over it when he grew up (hed literally be an adult against a teen if he kept the gripe which, may i remind you, was literally an accident) Also, sunnys mom isnt as bad as people make it out to be Sure, she completely neglected the fact sunny became hikki and got traumatized, but you gotta remember she literally lost her DAUGHTER and HUSBAND in the same. freaking. month. Shed be so overwhelmed with everything it would be IMPOSSIBLE for her to keep up with sunny, especially since she didnt think he was involved in maris death (before you bring up that they knew, they dont. People forget SOMETHING in deeper well said only basil and mari know) Hell, where would she get the money anymore? Its probably a living purgatory in that situation, so just like sunny, she just constantly kept escaping. I am not saying what she did was right by any means, she was terrible in these regards, but you have to remember its entirely possible it was because of maris death and she was a great mother beforehand. (She even thought he could get more food himself since he was a "big boy". This shows she didnt know what was up with him) So in theory, maris death being out there would have still led to things going wrong, but not as bad as what actually happened. But guess what? THAT DOESNT MATTER. framing someones death is **wrong** and by no means the correct action, so the consequences to telling the truth have NO importance, all that truly matters is saying it
@@leedlelel2373 Yes I agree with you here. Honestly I despised Basil for the actions, but as people say "oh they were kids" fine. He was a fricking kid, but he ended up blaming Sunny for not coming to him sooner, blaming Sunny for not approaching Basil sooner, while Sunny was in a complete trance for 4 whole years and ended up creating a whole world within his mind because he couldn't deal with outside anymore at all, it was just after 4 years that he finally somehow got the guts to go to others, while Basil visibly had the guts to go outside possibly everyday, he never took initiative at trying to meet Sunny first but instead waited for Sunny to come for him, which makes 0 sense whatsoever, because Sunny was caught up into the accident because of Basil's bad decision and its funny how the comment written completely forgets the concept of the bad knee that Mari had, even the map of truth emphasized on it, so it did have an importance in the incident which would make sense because it would make no sense that Sunny pushing Mari would even make her flinch because of how weak and tiny Sunny was compared to others, the bad knee played a huge role in her falling, it was a complete accident, no one was at fault and no one would have completely blamed Sunny for it because it had reasons apart from the push, but Basil had other plans and made it a million times worse, and chooses to mask his poor decisions by saying "he wanted to save Sunny" he refuses to even accept that what he did was wrong, and expects others to be for him while he doesn't even deserve Sunny to go to him.
21:58 I always wondered, how did Sunny not snap at her in that moment. Just imagine isolating yourself for 4 years because your sister died, and after you finally feel good enough to come out you suddenly get yelled at by one of your former friends about how they've _"suffered_ _so_ _much_ _after_ _her_ _death"_ and _"where_ _were_ _you_ _during_ _all_ _of_ _this?"_ . Like, I would absolutely lose my *shit* if I was in Sunny's place, no matter how shy or introverted you are.
I was absolutely livid at her tbh, it lessened a /bit/ once I had the whole picture (what happened with the album, Sunny’s apparent personality change prior to Aubrey’s own, and the context of her getting asked for the album- a fight where apparently neither Kel nor Sunny cared what had been done to it) etc. I sympathise with teens holding the idiot ball a little more than I do with older characters. but in this case? not a lot tbh!
Exactly, I understand she cared about mari.. But why did she act like he didnt when thats his biological sister.. The person he grew up with. I understand aubrey saw her as a sister but he grew up with her. He lost a family member. And she should be mature enough not to yell at someone who just came out of his house after 4 years?? I just feel bad for sunny. She should understand everyone handled the death differently.
basil is very misunderstood he was 12 he didnt know any better he didnt want sunny to get in trouble bc he cares for him i dont get why people hate him so much i wish that the player was able to be a lot nicer to him tho
why we hate him? It stretches further from just the accident. He made things a whole lot worse but he was a kid yes, but even after 4 years, he chose to wait for Sunny instead of going to him first, then has the audacity to yell at Sunny for leaving HIM, why do you even deserve Sunny to be with you? He didn't go out of his way to interact with Sunny, he was hit far worse than Basil because he was just pulled into this punishment solely because Basil was a fricking idiot, you can say that you love him, you can say that you care about him, but you cannot fricking ignore that he is a person who has the habit of masking his bad actions under the mask of good intentions, and likes to play the victim way too much even if he did the whole thing.
@@azuremoon-4 He might've tried to go see Sunny, but remember, Sunny was isolating himself, and probably wouldn't let anyone in, we know that no-one had seen him for four years, and people would have certainly tried to. Basil even took the blame for Sunny scribbling out his photos, and got bullied for four years by Aubrey and her gang because of it, just so he could protect Sunny. Sunny comes back after leaving for four years with the news that he's leaving, and that Basil will never see him again, also, Sunny refuses to even talk to him, and instead just stares. It's understandable that Basil broke down. Also he wasn't "pulled into punishment" because of Basil, he was the one who pushed Mari down the stairs, sure Basil freaked out and tried to help but ended up making it worse, but he was twelve, and scared, (just like Sunny was), and was just trying to protect Sunny. and if he hadn't, Sunny would still have gone to prison. Not really that much better. He made a mistake, just like Sunny did, why can you forgive Sunny for his mistake, but not Basil?
@@arctic5093 It was a literal accident without Basils interference, i think you are full on forgetting that Mari had a bad knee as well, and Sunny was also just a kid like Basil, it wasn't intended murder. About Sunny leaving Basil, why wouldn't he leave him? Why wouldn't he leave the person who hanged his sister's corpse solely because he put his faith in him, and that faith in him led to the creation something. If Mari had just died in an accident then the friends would have dealt with the issue in a better way too, they would be mad at Sunny but they would have forgiven him with time due to connections and because it was an accident, but the idea that not only Mari died but they also hung her, forcing them into believing that THEY werent there for Mari, that they failed as friends and couldn't save her, no matter how you state it. Basil made this a hundred time worse than it would have been. Breakdown or not guy still refused to accept that he made the situation worse
@@arctic5093 comparing Sunny's actions to Basils actions is just a stupid idea. In one area you have a child who accidentally pushed his own sister on accident, and then in his dissociative state, his good ol friend made him hang his sister while Sunny wasn't mentally there under the excuse of "he wanted to protect Sunny" and then he turned into a hikikomori and had to probably see his own family shatter to pieces for an accident that happened cuz of him, and then he was led into a mental state where exposure to outside world was probably torture for him and he probably felt like his life was in danger everytime he tried to go outside cuz of PTSD, and on the other hand you have the guy who did the hanging and chose to actively lie about it for 4 years and he refused to try to hold the group together even though he was the one who wanted the things to go back to the way they were before, he refused to do literally anything at all, apart from sometimes visiting Sunny, which he understandably ignores. Then Sunny the guy whose life was ruined the most has to come out and does more things in 3 days than Basil did in 4 years. Sunny even went as far as visiting Maris grave which even Hero couldn't do. How can you compare them?
@@azuremoon-4 What I am comparing, is that they both made a mistake while under extreme stress, Sunny pushed Mari, and Basil hung her. Yes, that was a bad move, but so was pushing Mari. Also Basil didn't force Sunny to do it, Sunny just watched. Also the creation of Sunny's something was Basil's fault, but the creation of Basil's something was Sunny's fault. Also, Basil almost certainly got ptsd as well as severe anxiety, he retreated as well. You blame Basil for not trying to hold the group together, yet Sunny didn't either. Yes, Sunny did do a lot of good stuff in three days, but does that make Basil any worse? None of the rest really did anything in those four years either. What I am trying to emphasise is that Basil made a mistake, while under extreme pressure, is that so unforgivable?
i love basil, we have so many personality traits exactly the same. he has attachment issues, he’s a freaking mess. he is mourning over the guilt of a person he takes the blame for, he cares about people, he’s shy. he’s just! i relate to him more than any character in the world! EDIT : IDONT FORGET ABANDONMENT ISSUES!!!!!!
and it's surprising considering how he barely gets any screen time. omocat definitely said he was the most complex to write for a reason, i suppose. very layered character.
allso i wanna say when basil calls for help in the old hangout spot by the lake i think basil was seeing the hooligens as his somthing and mari and aubrey as a distorted version off her sellf
16:39 I think you got this part wrong, in my eyes he dosent want to check the photo album becuase there's scribbles iver evreything and aubrey would get blamed for it I think the only reason basil said yes is because if aubrey got blamed he would just say "aubrey didint do it I did "
More specifically, it’s because Sunny is the one who actually scribbled out the photos. Which is definitely a thing Basil absolutely does *not* want to come out. But.. refusing to see the album would’ve looked suspicious anyway, so he figured he’d just put the blame on himself if Kel asks. Fortunately for him, Aubrey already removed the marks, so he had nothing to worry about this time. (Although it does make me wonder what he thought giving Sunny the album would do exactly, considering what happened the last time he had it...)
I love this analysis video. Especially the fact that u keep repeating facts about how basil is just such a gentle and good and caring person! I AGREE!!!! HE IS SO LOVABLE AND KIND. What he did was just out of love and concern for his favorite bestest friend in the world.. I hate when people blame him :'(
The thing is, a good percentage of people who likes basil knows that its still his goddamn fault this all existed Him being lovable doesnt take away any blame, i like basil myself and ik that
@@eyedonutnose5181 actually all this would have existed even if he didn’t help Sunny get away with it or at least for Sunny it would have, since he is the one that caused his sisters death🤨, also a lot of his fans like him and know that what he did was wrong so don’t make up things bc I know damn well an actual Basil fan would not say this
This video just made me love Basil even more. I so desperately want to give the guy a hug, even if it's impossible. 16:15 im pretty sure he does that because he thinks the photos are still blacked out because aubrey was the one who fixed them and he didn't know that she did yet
i have this horrifying inkling of a theory that mari... might not have died from the stairs. i don't actually believe this, it's just a thought that haunts me at the dead of night also, you're trying to connect everything to the night of "the recital" but it's not, it's a combination of sunny ditching basil _and_ "the recital," when kel says they should look through the photo album, basil is hesitant either because of him blacking out all the photos with marker. basil shouts for sunny and kel to not leave mainly because of sunny, basil doesn't want sunny to leave again after 4. and i want to mention the "good" ending, not the secret ending but the one most players are going to get, it just... completely ignores basil, the "Good" ending is basically basil's *_worst nightmare._* Basil never gets over "the recital" in the "good" ending and the would _devastate him_ sunny never considers basil when admitting the truth to his friends and, i would say that he never fully considers basil unless he's directly attacking him.. or himself... sunny completely ignores basil when he needs him the most, And i feel like the game ignores that. god i hope someone reads this...
I read this and I feel like I should correct you on something real quick. Basil didn't black out the photos in the album, Sunny did. Basil just took the blame for him. But other than that, yeah, Sunny isn't isn't considering Basil that much, but he still reaches out to him and he's willing to risk his out life to save him.
Im pretty sure the “secret ending” isn’t an ending on its own, it just shows you what happens after the good ending. Like a reward for players who went out of their way to water basils plants. That’s what makes the most sense to me cause it directly follows the good ending
@@wotinator1008 i suppose that could be, but i feel like it's just as easy to say that their two different endings since your getting rewarded for doing something. also you really do just get that ending for watering basil's flowers in headspace, i thought you also had to do all the quests and that "ending" was the reward for that.

I have the headcanon that Basil is stronger than Aubrey because gardening… gardening is difficult if you’re someone weak. I say Basil -despite being stronger than Aubrey- didn’t fight back because he didn’t wanna hurt her or her friends
Not-So Fun Fact: When Hero Is Added To Your Team In Faraway, Go To The Doors That Lead Up To The Graveyard, Interact With Them And Hero Will Say "Im Not Ready For This Yet..." Emphasizing That Hero Has Not Gotten Over Mari's Death. The Go On One Day Left And Hero Goes In!
Something I wanna say (its probably already said inthe video): when aubery pushed basil into the lake it was kinda like how sunny pushed mari aubery even says it was an accident like sunny did
This is a horrible thing I have seen and still have a lot of trauma about, that I find very frustrating about this theory: a recently dead body usually still has its eyes open, and they’re actually quite difficult to shut properly. It isn’t like you see in films where someone can gently pass a hand over their eyes and they look like they’re sleeping. I did that once and still feel angry and upset that it didn’t work like those films. Mari’s eyes probably were open, and the kids tried to shut them but failed, and in (understandably!) wanting to avoid looking at her face, never realised until they had hung her up and the hair fell out of her eyes. The experience I had when my dad died rings truest with this story in any I’ve seen in media, and is something I’ve found somewhat cathartic (though not comforting, just like “oh somebody gets it!” if that makes sense). I wish I had been around for this game’s release so I could have stressed this to fans then, even though I know I wouldn’t have been ready for it at all. I’m really glad I found it now, even if I’m very late.
Me. Simply because I had only seen edits of Basil and didn’t read the comments of them because I was like ‘This seems nice! I might check it out tho I don’t want spoilers’
That would take away the significance of the push, plus the cut text for the photo of Sunny next to Mari in bed after the fall says that she wasn't breathing, so it's not very likely that she survived. Still a horrifying thought anyway though
In my childhood I suffered 1 decade of kidnapping, child abuse by my mother, 8 years of bullying and harassment and trying to kill myself about 7 times, in this game, the type of trauma is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), 4 months ago I was diagnosed at the age of 16 with c-PTSD (It's literally the type of trauma that soldiers end up with when they return from war), and last month I discovered this game and it has since become my favorite game. I am in treatment and in the process of criminally denouncing my mother for physical/sexual child abuse for 10 years. I am also in treatment with a psychiatrist and taking medication for depression, panic attacks and nightmares/hallucinations. It is incredible how this game shows the helplessness and anger that comes from not being able to return to the past and how life can give such radical and grotesque changes. Now this is my favorite game❤
In this game, I "like" how Basil experienced the separation from my friends, which was similar to what I experienced, suddenly everyone separated and fought among themselves, I ended up isolating myself and a couple of my "friends" along with Other idiots contribute to harassing and physically attacking me. I think the last time I had a friend was about 8 or 9 years ago (not counting on the Internet), this is more than sad and seems interesting to me, since it is an aspect of c-PTSD, heatstroke and not liking to socialize With the rest of the people, I hope to be able to change this in the future and live a relatively normal life, but for now I prefer to vent in the comments of this video
ive been feeling the same way. i really hate how depressing these videos are but i didnt learn enough from the game to fully understand the troubles all the characters live in their everyday lives
Its funny how the fact sunny literally says nothing is only really emphasized by basil's dialogue. Like no one really asks you questions directly and if they do its rare that you respond. I kinda feel bad for basil when he is trying to talk to sunny. Must be awkward as heck
💀 I just imagine the whole time during the incident he’s silently crying and nodding his head
Because am afraid (sunny)
Makes sense but he simply learned it for camping or plants stuff or smth like that
And by the way even though he definitely had anxiety and/or depression, due to his own parents neglecting him, I still don't think basil wanted to die/hang himself, he loved his friends a lot, like a newfound family, they probably were his only reason to live, after meeting sunny and the rest of the group his mental health must have improved significantly.

@@Rainbow.HarmonyS He wasn't at first, which if you'd pay attention, was clearly shown and implied by Basil's dialogue throughout the game
@@DLxxx he was 12 😅…
@@Sophluvzz yeah and not to mention basil legit said he kept the secret cuz he didn't want any of the blame to rest on sunny, for sunny to get in trouble. Hell he himself didn't want to believe sunny could commit an act like that even by accident and knew that other people won't see it as an accident and would think sunny is a bad person, something basil could never see sunny as even when sunny unintentionally hurts him
Honestly he did what he can when he was about 12 and can never predict it hurting sunny in the long run
thank you
I would also like to add that when Basil went missing, he was probably planning to commit suicide. He left home without telling anyone, and to the secret hangout spot that he thought nobody knew about and is not visited often. And when the Hooligans saw him he had a mental breakdown because he thought they would hurt him. Also, as you said, he is worried about people finding out about his bad mental state.
also him giving away his photo album. he mentions his memories are so precious to him, and suicidal people commonly give away some of their most precious and treasured items to people they trust before they end their life
I always thought that about the album. Before I finished the game I thought it was suspicious and an indicator of something sad to happen :(
Thank GOD I got the good (and true) ending I would have been torn to shreds if I didn’t
It makes sense why Basil was there. I didn't realize it. That hits me so hard.
i would like to add. in the 2019 build, after he is rescued from the lake, polly explains that basil ran away [to the park/hangout] from her while she was trying to console him; he was stressing out about his grandma's rapidly declining health.
not that that's technically canon or answers the speculation, just some info. if you want to attribute it to canon, then comparing it with him using his grandma as an excuse to put off hanging with kel on 3dl (come to think of it, he wasn't even planning on them coming to his house) and then isolating after her death, it does sort of seem like he was already starting to suspect the outcome. you can ascribe it to simply wanting to be alone but i really do wonder even more about his plans at the hangout spot. it definitely seems like he was contemplating something a lot before actually entering.
The friendliest and bulliest ones usually hide the worst, wether for good or bad
Sameeee
He was having a psychotic break because the friend he'd been trying to protect from the consequences of his own actions since they were small seemed to be abandoning him with the trauma AGAIN
If anything, Basil is a trooper for keeping it a secret for so long
I think he held it the most together even more than sunny.

The thing is, Basil's something *didn't* disappear

i think its really interesting how when Aubrey pushed basil into the water accidentally, it felt like a moment that relates to sunny pushing mari.
‘As well’ could refer to Sunny potentially serving time if this got out.
loved the analysis. really shows how important basil is to the story, and how hes not the villain people make him out to be. honestly, framing a suicide would be the best option to *hide* the truth. cuz idk how people think 12y/os and also sunnys parents would react to a ‘oh im sorry i accidentally killed my sister after we had a fight and also broke the violin you all worked so hard to gift me.’ we dont know how the gang would react to the truth at the their current age of 16 and older, imagine if they were still kids. imo if basil didnt help him when the truth happened, when everyone found out, hero would distance himself from sunny, and aubrey n kel would start to avoid/bully sunny like aubrey did to basil. basil could also be peer pressured/bullied into staying away from sunny. so accidentally killing his sister, losing (probably)all his friends, losing his dad, his mom potentially start to mistreat him like aubreys mom does to aubrey (since sunnys mom is arguably negligent of him in game, she could start to treat him worse.)would probably drive sunny to commit wayyy sooner. basil at 12 knew how to tie a noose, so suicide at that age isnt impossible, and also since there are irl cases of children even younger than that committing bc of bullying/etc.
tldr basil saved sunnys life by framing maris death as a suicide and sharing the guilt of maris death w him
i definitely don't think kel would bully sunny
SEE?? YOU GET IT.
Omori fandom when some 12yo kid is feeling sad (theyre 100% gonna commit suicide)
Jokes aside, long essay incoming, you cant just justify basil's actions because "oh theyre probably gonna kill themselves" that is just utter bs
If anything, the framing only ruined his whole freaking life
If the incident had been settled earlier NONE of the horrible things would have happened, its literally two twelve year olds, its not like theyre somehow gonna understand the trauma they are at
And basil wouldnt even FEEL this bad because he would have had no involvement
If basil hadnt covered sunny's ass, at the very least kel would have stayed and hero would have gotten over it when he grew up (hed literally be an adult against a teen if he kept the gripe which, may i remind you, was literally an accident)
Also, sunnys mom isnt as bad as people make it out to be
Sure, she completely neglected the fact sunny became hikki and got traumatized, but you gotta remember she literally lost her DAUGHTER and HUSBAND in the same. freaking. month.
Shed be so overwhelmed with everything it would be IMPOSSIBLE for her to keep up with sunny, especially since she didnt think he was involved in maris death (before you bring up that they knew, they dont. People forget SOMETHING in deeper well said only basil and mari know)
Hell, where would she get the money anymore? Its probably a living purgatory in that situation, so just like sunny, she just constantly kept escaping.
I am not saying what she did was right by any means, she was terrible in these regards, but you have to remember its entirely possible it was because of maris death and she was a great mother beforehand.
(She even thought he could get more food himself since he was a "big boy". This shows she didnt know what was up with him)
So in theory, maris death being out there would have still led to things going wrong, but not as bad as what actually happened.
He was a fricking kid, but he ended up blaming Sunny for not coming to him sooner, blaming Sunny for not approaching Basil sooner, while Sunny was in a complete trance for 4 whole years and ended up creating a whole world within his mind because he couldn't deal with outside anymore at all, it was just after 4 years that he finally somehow got the guts to go to others, while Basil visibly had the guts to go outside possibly everyday, he never took initiative at trying to meet Sunny first but instead waited for Sunny to come for him, which makes 0 sense whatsoever, because Sunny was caught up into the accident because of Basil's bad decision and its funny how the comment written completely forgets the concept of the bad knee that Mari had, even the map of truth emphasized on it, so it did have an importance in the incident which would make sense because it would make no sense that Sunny pushing Mari would even make her flinch because of how weak and tiny Sunny was compared to others, the bad knee played a huge role in her falling, it was a complete accident, no one was at fault and no one would have completely blamed Sunny for it because it had reasons apart from the push, but Basil had other plans and made it a million times worse, and chooses to mask his poor decisions by saying "he wanted to save Sunny" he refuses to even accept that what he did was wrong, and expects others to be for him while he doesn't even deserve Sunny to go to him.

preach, brother. I would straight up not even bother with the knife and just call her out
I was absolutely livid at her tbh, it lessened a /bit/ once I had the whole picture (what happened with the album, Sunny’s apparent personality change prior to Aubrey’s own, and the context of her getting asked for the album- a fight where apparently neither Kel nor Sunny cared what had been done to it) etc. I sympathise with teens holding the idiot ball a little more than I do with older characters.

i have this horrifying inkling of a theory that mari... might not have died from the stairs. i don't actually believe this, it's just a thought that haunts me at the dead of night
also, you're trying to connect everything to the night of "the recital" but it's not, it's a combination of sunny ditching basil _and_ "the recital," when kel says they should look through the photo album, basil is hesitant either because of him blacking out all the photos with marker. basil shouts for sunny and kel to not leave mainly because of sunny, basil doesn't want sunny to leave again after 4.
and i want to mention the "good" ending, not the secret ending but the one most players are going to get, it just... completely ignores basil, the "Good" ending is basically basil's *_worst nightmare._* Basil never gets over "the recital" in the "good" ending and the would _devastate him_ sunny never considers basil when admitting the truth to his friends and, i would say that he never fully considers basil unless he's directly attacking him.. or himself... sunny completely ignores basil when he needs him the most, And i feel like the game ignores that.
god i hope someone reads this...
@@Al3xthefrog ohh, is that why he still knows that in the hikiomori route? i guess that makes sense.
@@Name_Pendingg Watering Basil’s flowers in headspace may of made Sunny’s interaction with Basil in the hospital easier.
People who get this ending their first time playing: 😊
People who get the neutral ending:
Holy shit you are genuinely so underrated on UA-cam man
Heres the chapter timestamps for whoever wants it:
00:33 Chapter one: Precious Memories
02:29 Chapter two: Everything Is Going To Be Okay
06:48 Chapter three: Promise That We'll Always Be There For Eachother
19:52 Chapter four: There's No Way Out Of This, Is There?
23:27 Chapter five: Will You Forgive Me, My Best Friend?
29:53 Chapter six: Let's Make Some New Memories Together, Okay?
Thanks!
You need to do an in depth video like this for Malediction chapter 1, its an interactive UA-cam game and it’s very underrated
Actually cried at the end
Very cool video
Im not sobbing my eyes are just sweating
my eyes are just roleplaying as a waterfall😭
basil best herb
Basil smokes weed and gets even more paranoid
the fact this guy only has 500 views on this video is crazy i already liked and subbed :D
gardening is cheaper than therapy
Basil is so real for the bathroom being a safe place
I have the headcanon that Basil is stronger than Aubrey because gardening… gardening is difficult if you’re someone weak. I say Basil -despite being stronger than Aubrey- didn’t fight back because he didn’t wanna hurt her or her friends
he is also a male person going through puberty..
This is the 482920202 time I'm seeing this, I fricking LOVE Basil

I k ow hes just a game character but i wish him the best
Basil is precious and must be protected
YES ive been waiting for this i haven't watched it yet but i know its gunna be a BANGER
I don't think it's a good thing that I can relate SO MUCH to Basil
Same 😭
I LOVE the good ending 😄
I do love the good ending but its also a reference to some really funny people on VRChat

i am crying laughing thank you so much 😭😭
Poor basil I know this IS a game But I hate SEE kids suffer
This video made me cry- 😭
MY EYES ARE JUST SWEATING IM NOT CRYING IM NOT😭
I kinda regret playing omori because now i’m spending way too much time thinking about these fictional characters and how bad i feel about them
same
28:33 BASIL
Best flower boy is best character :)
actually real
Basil is one of the characters I can’t help but feel so bad for because all he wanted to do was help but instead he just made everything worse.
Something I wanna say (its probably already said inthe video): when aubery pushed basil into the lake it was kinda like how sunny pushed mari aubery even says it was an accident like sunny did
if sunny and basil just called an ambulance mari could have actualy lived
I don't think so. Mari probably died in the impact, instantly...
@@Simone-mh4mj the stairs werent that high if anything she wouldve snapped her neck
@@jarnold Yes but, have you landed a broken violin after falling? It hurt hard, you know.
It seems she died as soon as she hit the floor, there probably wasn't any saving her
This is a horrible thing I have seen and still have a lot of trauma about, that I find very frustrating about this theory: a recently dead body usually still has its eyes open, and they’re actually quite difficult to shut properly.
All of this wouldn't have happen if the stair wasn't that fucking long
They could never make me hate you, basil.
The whole game would’ve never happened if the parents got a better house with shorter stairs 💀
great video
I dont know what is it about Basil. I first saw this boy in the game and my brain went, "WE MUST PROTECT THIS BOY AT ALL COST!"
ABSOLUTELY SAME, I always tried to go to him even if the game didn't allow
amazing video, summed it all up very well
i love basil 😋
In conclusion, If you make even Basil mad at you, you fucked up-
i loev basil so much
5:51 "so how's it hanging?" idk Aubrey go ask Mari that
IM ONE OF THE FIRST! love the video!
Thank you!
thank you from Brasil
gotta love analyzing herbs

Wow Omori is one hell of a game
Tbh they could just have told everyone she fell 💀
Down the stairs of course
But than they would’ve had to explain the violin.
She was holding the violin
@@HairyMcApe Than they would’ve had to explain why she was holding the violin.
@@IApologiseForQuitting.213 She was carrying it to the closet because Sunny forgot to put it away
Mur-ee 😭😭
basil is so misunderstood it hurts me
Who else thought that Basil was a girl at first?
Me. Simply because I had only seen edits of Basil and didn’t read the comments of them because I was like ‘This seems nice! I might check it out tho I don’t want spoilers’
Definitely not me cos I don't buy into homophobic stereotypes 😂
I thought Kel was a girl.
not me 😌
I thought Kel was a girl also lol
Bagel
What if mari was still alive but in a coma but basil killed her?
That would take away the significance of the push, plus the cut text for the photo of Sunny next to Mari in bed after the fall says that she wasn't breathing, so it's not very likely that she survived.
Still a horrifying thought anyway though
why are we analyzing leaves
Lmao the video’s just describing me
why do people keep adding sunflower emojis bruh we all know the top sunny ship is suntan
I want a Basil bf
You cruel
No you don't, trust me
WGAT-

wait i thought basils something just went back “inside” him like he didn’t overcome his trauma.. bc Sunny’s faded away idk im just asking 😭
hes so misunderstood everytime someone calls him toxic i break inside cuz why r u blaming all of this on him
I like basil myself and i wanna say
They do got a point
Im watching this at FanX and I am Dream Basil
"Reality is stranger than fiction" What makes me most angry is knowing that I am not the only one in the world who has experienced this shit.
(spoilers defo defo)
the game actually seriously went light to dark real quick after the mari staircase incident
Damn
i hate watching omori analysis videos but i guess i kinda gotta now
ive been feeling the same way. i really hate how depressing these videos are but i didnt learn enough from the game to fully understand the troubles all the characters live in their everyday lives
i fell down the stairs once, mari is overreacting
babil :D
I never knew he wad a he
What about the bad ending 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
