It would be a good idea to put a skylight in at the back above the bed and dining area if you haven't already thought of it. We find the most amount of light comes down from above. It will be very dark at the back otherwise.
I work in construction and i've done A LOT of insulation. If it isn't too late, pull some of that plastic off and fix the insulation. You don't want insulation with spaces between batts and you don't want bunched up insulation. Bunched up insulation doesn't do it's job properly. it needs to be fluffy. Fluffy not stuff is the motto i tell people who are just starting insulation.
Hi mate, just about to start my van. Could you expand on what you just said a little please? What do you mean gaps in the bat's? Also is that plastic vapour barrier necessary?
@@barredfrompup when you are putting your insulation up you don't want any space in between you batt insulation. you want them completely touching, no gaps. if there is any spots where you insulation has space or gaps the heat or cold has a place to travel freely and you will get hot / cold spots then condensation. unless you do a very very good job with the plastic vapour barrier it will be useless. if you haven't done a perfect job in your insulation, the plastic vapour barrier will hold in the condensation and then you will literally have puddles in you wall. the plastic isn't necessary, but if i didn't use spray foam i would still use it.
Great video ! First ive found that is a reasonable way of doing it and actually showing what products are being used and where from! About to start my conversion in the next few days! Now onto the rest of the videos !
I've just watched this with my 7yr old daughter, she loves it. She loves to go wild camping and we can't wait to go again when the weather warms up a bit.
Hi Paul I went down a similar route, but smaller scale. A Transit connect. Took me ages. Sound deadened first, then a layer of reflectix insulation, then the Diall plastic bottle like you used (you must let it expand before use so it fluffs up) then another layer of reflectix. Everything taped and sealed with foil tape. Most importantly I used Trim Fix high temp glue. You will be running the risk in the summer of everything coming away as that glue melts. Top tip for fitting the batons to roof struts, pre drill pilot holes, get Bosch blue tip BandQ sell them beware the insulation likes to fight back. You need a roof vent for definitely, otherwise everywhere will be dripping in the morning. Enjoy the experience but please do it right. ATB Pal 👍
Wow the build is coming along well. That model Jo made was pretty cool. It gives you a good idea of the finished space. Good idea on the professional window install....Take care, Bluefin
Nice one Mr Messner. ...just the right voice somehow...love the scale model plan...I was full time van based for twelve years...in the end it's all about loo...heat...and water!! Latest version..a Citreon mark one Picasso ..with eBay home built roof top clamshell tent ...and these days a cottage!! All the very best to you both....
Apart from the adventures you will both have It will be brilliant for your channel in the future.. I can see you utilising the van even when pitching tents, trying out equipment and making videos as it will be a home from home and will lead to more..
Scanned down the comments just to see if anyone mentioned a vent. You beat me to it😉. I would definitely put in a roof vent and a skylight but would place them away from the solar roof panels,( assuming they are going in to recharge the inverter batteries?). Not sure of Paul’s overall design, but I assume he is going for a decent inverter. I would have put in some trunking for running future electrics too.
@@Neilukuk I would assume he means the spores can give you severe health problems. If so, he is correct. You need good ventilation in a small enclosed space like a van, especially a heated small enclosed space.
When you get the side panels cut out for the windows cover up all that vapour barrier with something to protect it because there will be alot of sparks from cutting the metal panels. Other than that I'm enjoying watching the build coming along nicely 👍
I applaud you on your work. Having lived in Canada for decades and U.K. for decades.I see here in the U.K. moisture is a real problem 365 days a year.I have been watching van life and motor home life on UA-cam. The main issue i see is mould. From dampness and condensation. In North America this doesn’t happen like U.K.. it’s much dryer air.
Take advice from videos made in the UK as the advice will be different in other countries as climate different. Also think about getting a maxifan. Expensive but well worth the money.
You’re just right to get the windows done professionally. On the three campervan conversions my MIL has done she has always had the windows put in by experts.
Wow and I spent nearly 2 weeks doing this. Used the same plastic stuff but also 25mm celotex on top too. I’ve been so stressed wanting it to be perfect because so many videos tell you it has to be. I’ve spent so much money doing it all too but watching this just makes me feel silly. Great job!
You can ...and they pay you!..you'll ne moving campervans from where they don't need them to where they do...I went all the way round...Sydney to Darwin etc
It’s coming on nicely and I look forward to each update video. I think you might regret not fitting a decent thermostatically controlled fan in the roof while you had chance. It makes a huge difference when you get back to the van on a hot day or during the night when it’s too warm to sleep.
Likewise solar electrics and the gas works will be interesting to look forward to will be following you guys like a hawk to see how you do them .. fantastic project guys
This is fun and interesting to watch. You guys are an inspiration for us all. Keep up the good work and videos. I eagerly look forward to each new episode.
Hi Paul the progress on the camper van build looking good 👍. As many others have commented you should consider a fan/ventilator in the roof to remove cooking smells and prevent build up of condensation ! Jo's done a great scaled mock up for the interior of the van..👍 Years of watching of Blue Peter..!!!😁😉🌞
I've got a good feeling about this Paul. I reckon the conversion is going to be great! Keep up the momentum and you'll be ready to roll for the summer. Makes good watching too!
Watch the rest of our camper conversion here ua-cam.com/play/PLbU28ZzUOa48kcq9zxaVz3_ut22lRwn0f.html
Finally someone who is doing the van conversion like the joe public would do! Haven’t got a clue but learning on the job!
It would be a good idea to put a skylight in at the back above the bed and dining area if you haven't already thought of it. We find the most amount of light comes down from above. It will be very dark at the back otherwise.
Not just the light it’s good ventilation too 👍🏼
That scale model looks ace, well done Jo.
Can't tell you how jealous I am of this, I want to build one of these.
Me too. I'm saving for the van now! Won't be able to get one until end of summer but still, great stuff.

Fluffy is the way to go! I just asked chat gtp lol
If UA-cam had an award for the most chill UA-camr, you would win by a landslide.
When you run the wires through maybe put a couple more througg incase you decide to add something at a later date
Jo knocked it out of the park with that scaled model!
A true van lifer “right I’ve spent all me money” looking good love the model
Wish I would've found this channel once the project was completed. Eagerly anticipating the next instalment.
Your getting on with it way better than I thought you would. After the way you were talking when you were telling us your plans.
Really easy to follow along if you want to do your own. 👍
Can’t wait for the next installment. By the way, your wife is just a doll. She really adds to the documentation your project.
Brilliant, you really are not messing about and that is the best way to do it, by making a scale model.
Jo's scale model is a triumph.!! Looking good so far mate. Compulsive viewing in our house. Cheers.
Hi Paul nice looking van surprised you didn’t put any sound deadening on prior to the insulation makes a hell of a difference
I thought I spotted that he had in places.
Great video ! First ive found that is a reasonable way of doing it and actually showing what products are being used and where from! About to start my conversion in the next few days! Now onto the rest of the videos !
I did exactly the same to my camper. You will be surprised how warm it is. I have slept in it in minus temp. 👍

Yeh high temp spray
can you lot let Paul just get on with it!!! Comments filled with unsolicited advice, brilliant video as per usual, just let the man do what he likes!
Looking forward to the next video, its never easy doing this when the weather's cold but think of where you can go when it's finished.
Great job Paul...I’ve recently converted a T5, labour of love ...great fun!!
Great work Paul (and Jo 😋), it's all coming along nicely Guys. Keep it up.
Wow the build is coming along well. That model Jo made was pretty cool. It gives you a good idea of the finished space. Good idea on the professional window install....Take care, Bluefin
Coming along nicely. Enjoying seeing the camper van transformation
Excellent Paul. Really looking forward to this series. Thanks.

Enjoying the progress videos. Hopefully your both enjoying it. Think we will do this in years to come.
Take care 🙂
Evo Design units are class quality when you get round to looking for units to buy. Done my Crafter out in them... cnc cut to perfection
Coming along nicely ! Keep going team Messner
Loving the updates Paul, Jo's model was ace, good to see her in the videos! Keep up the good work!
I look forward to your videos so much Paul. Thank you
Love watching this come together. Thanks both and stay safe.
Supercool adventure, Paul!

Same insulation we use... Recycling at its best....
im loving this so much, it’s a relatable and understandable van conversion, and not many from the uk online
Check out Greg Virgoe , he did an excellent build and he's british . Cheers from germany
Small steps at a time but an awesome project, provides good inspiration. Hope you're both enjoying it!
That model is AWESOME!
Keep up the good work, I bet you’re saving good money by doing it yourself. Thanks for the video.
Jo’s scale model is brilliant 👏 seen lots of virtual van builds but this is definitely better 👍 ... ❤️👵🏼🐾🐾🤠
Keep the faith it’ll all come good in the end 👍
When you put the vapour barrier up I thought nope this is a murder van ha ha ha. Good luck with the rest of the build!
You need a roof vent, condensation is a killer in a van, mould where you cant see it, like under mattresses.

@@justjonoutdoors A Maxfan i believe. You can draw air in and out.
What do you mean by killer? Can it kill you or is it bad for the van? Thanks

This looks like so much fun! Also that plan is so cute!
Can't wait to see the finished product!
Your doing an awesome Job
Love the model Jo made 👍👍
Brilliant video!
Yu pair are salt of the earth! That’s how I would do it but yu are so patient compared to me! Keep going and I’ll keep watching pal👍
A lot of work , but it's comming along .
Keeps You busy at least .

See You in the next vid .
Great effort both of you, it's getting there.

Busy Boy. Looking good Respect, and it is a good idea to have the windows fitting by the pros.
Nice one Paul You and Jo are cracking on. Hard work but worth it x ATB Stephen xx...
Looking good so far
Great stuff Paul, it’s starting to look cosy. Kind of! Can’t wait to see it progressing further 👍🏻

Excellent! At last I've found videos I can follow. Thanks to you both!
Make sure the waterproof barrier goes around in one under the floor and walls
Good job,Paul.
Jo done a great model for were everything is going well done Jo nice model 👌👍
Going great so far guys 👍
You’re just right to get the windows done professionally. On the three campervan conversions my MIL has done she has always had the windows put in by experts.
The race is on between yourselves and Rich Rebuilds
I'd consider a roof light or two, I think you will need them for light and help with condensation.

Enjoying watching the van build. You are making it look pretty easy to be fair 👍
Great clip. You make it look easy
Contact adhesive, BOTH surfaces should be sprayed and left until tacky before affixing.

Great stuff Paul.
