A lot has been said/shown in y/t videos over the."small" Guide Gear" having insufficient draft, which required leaving the door ajar or as some suggested removing the bottom of the door gasket.
It didn't seem that the "large Guide Gear" stove performed much better, even being equipped with having a larger and taller flue pipe.
Something I noticed in almost ALL instances was that. ALL seven draft holes, 4 on the Top & 3on the Bottom (total of 7) were completely wide open.
I can only assume that this was to allow a larger volume of air into the fire box ; same as leaving the door slightly ajar.
Is IT a volume problem ?
I''ve seen other guys burning a fire where 2 feet of the flue pipe was cherry red and they're having a hard time dampening it down.
    Why the differences ?
"Draw" is produced by a given volume of hot temperature games raising up the flue . The hotter the gas, the greater the volume the more urgent it becomes for them to escape. IF... the flue cannot handle it all, then smoke will seek alternative ways out; like out the air intakes , around the door or out seams in the flue or fire box.
Why are there 4 air. holes on top and only 3 air hole on the botton ?

Besides air intake volume, there is also air intake velocity. Think of it like this. A bon fire on the ground is surrounded by a volume of air to keep it burning intensely, however; when you blow on it the hot embers fire reacts in intensity.
In doing some research I found that supposedly to get a fire going you should utilize the bottom ( 3 ) holes.
After the fire is establishes you should switch to the Top 4 holes .
By attempting to use ALL 7 holes you're capable of a larger volume of intake air, governed by the volume and intensity of the fire in the box.
The more holes 0pen the slower the velocity.
The fewer holes the higher the intake air velocity. IF ... you utilize only 3 holes on the bottom when starting a fire, then you should get the same higher velocity of intake air affect as blowing onto the hot coals
When you open all 7 noles completely youve increased the potential for volume of intake air, however; drastically reduced the velocity of intake air.
      Think about this ...

Sorry, don't know, but you can look up both on amazon and get measurement.

      I think the small one is roughly 17 1/2" x 11"
