I'm completely fine with an off-road vehicle being minimalist inside (and pickups in general) because they aren't family luxury vehicles, they're trucks. That's what the Denalis and High Countrys are for. But the price should reflect that minimalism.
I bought a 2021 last month. The Cherry Red color. I have wanted one since the old 19080s S-10 ZR2. Here I am at 53, and finally own one. I don't mind the front end look. What I find I am miss....the fog/drive lights. (enter the age jokes) We live on 100 acres here in ME and I do off road more than most Jeep owners. It will go damn near any place I point it. I enjoy the truck every time get in it. I love the basicness of the interior. I hate all this new gadgetry crap that manufacturers put in the cars and trucks. Learn to drive again. I hope to keep my ZR2 for quite some time.
Not only does it have lockers, it also has an off road mode and traction control fully off. Off road mode is like the terrain management snow/dirt/ etc. from other trucks. Although it’s just one option rather than picking a terrain.
I think you missed what this vehicle is all about. This thing has some serious off road ability and what I think is the best stock suspension on the market. I was shocked at how nice such an off road worthy setup drove on the road. The much loved Toyota Tacoma TRD doesn't offer the equivalent off road ability, and when they do try the on road driving suffers greatly.
We got a '21 Colorado Z71, I love the shifter, I don't know why, but I love the shifter, especially at night. I hate the rear seats, I'm not tall, we have the long box and the back doors that have to have the front open to open. I have to sit facing towards the middle of the rear, my legs do not allow me to sit straight. I like the key, the older folding keys always break off, and then you gotta try and find your vice grips and-. The heated seats are amazing though, they hear up almost immediately and turn on when you use the remote start. It's also great in the snow. I just hate the shape of the windows, they don't look truck like, it looks too rounded Edit: Yeah forgot to mention, also not tall, like you, I hit my head on the ceiling in the back seats over speed bumps.
When you get the black out package on the Colorado it automatically comes with red tow hooks even before the AT4 came out also the Cutaway in the bumper is called approach angle that truck is ranked very good in that department

Two years ago I took the ZR2 for a test drive, I was unimpressed with the pickup from the V6. I give them a hard time about the key to start the car. Headlights are horrible. The one thing the Canyon and Colorado have going for it is the multiple flavours you can get the truck in (crewcab, regular, long bed, short bed, gas or diesel). I ended up with the Canyon All Terrain (w/ the All Terrain X package) long bed, diesel. Swapped the headlights & fog lights out for Diode Dynamics SL 1 LED lights. It’s been a good truck, great mileage I can average close to 30 miles per gallon
Hendrick (NASCAR guy) in Concord, North Carolina, has a GM Defense manufacturing plant for military vehicles, which are based on the Colorado. The CO ZR2, especially the Bison AEV, is truly an off-road vehicle. I want to use it on the farm as an UTV and a road truck. I loke the 2022 model the best.😊
The inferior might look old and not really good but on the outside I think its one of most best looking trucks in 2021 if I had the money I'd get it 100 percent
I like what they did to the ZR2, much better front end. The previous ones kinds looked like they were missing something. This looks well put together and aggressive at the same time.
Exterior: beautiful Interior: not impressed at all, GM penny pinches on their cars lately and it’s a huge turn off, hard plastics around the doors and dash, and why the hell have they not included a digital cluster or for god sakes why it there still a key ignition? Very good review man but GM pisses me off lately.

I’m not going to use the back seats for passengers for anything over 20 miles..😂 I put in a wireless charger since the stock one is too tiny for new phones.
Why don't they continue the black to the interior roof? I always wondered that just because of the fact when you're off-roading and your hands are dirty or you have dirty gloves and you touch something I'd prefer a black surface than a light gray surface. Just a personal opinion.
I have a 2018 model ZR2 and it's funny but everything you are knocking i.e the off road select, and gear shift I like. The gear shift to me is ergonomically friendly it allows me to rest my arm on the counsel and shift with ease. Very nice! As for the off road control yeah it's tucked away on the left side of the steering wheel. No biggie once you get use to it. I would prefer an off road stick shift but this is no deal breaker. It works and is out of the way. I like the back up camera in the 8 inch display, but it is totally useless at night.I also hate the fact that I cannot sit in my truck at night and turn off the display lighting. You can turn it off but it kicks back on in 5 minutes or so. Totally frustrating! Good review by the way. Thank you!
I'd prefer the gear shift on the column. Honestly I like the idea of it being older looking inside. I don't care for modern interiors. Call me crazy but I love old school. The modern technology is impressive though. Plenty of room for hunting, camping and fishing gear in the back with space for the dog. My biggest issue is that they don't offer the crew cab with a 6' bed in the ZR2 version.

It's not a Silverado, it's not a F-150, it's not a Dodge Ram or any other full size truck for that matter. Also, why would you even compare this 4x4 ZR2 truck with 31 inch Duratrac off road type tires matted to front and rear locking differentials to a Chevrolet Blazer? Just because it has the same engine? Your review completely missed the mark on who this vehicle is an option for and its intended market such as anyone considering a Toyota TRD, Ford Raptor, Ford Ranger 4x4, Jeep or similarly packaged off road factory vehicle. What you didn't mention in your review is anything to with that or how It's a very nimble and an extremely capable off road setup in a midsize truck package straight from the factory. If your focus is to stay on public streets, you should consider getting a more street cruising happy type of truck. However, If you are hitting the trails or doing overlanding and going off road, get the ZR2. It's really as simple as that. Can Chevrolet improve a few aspects of the vehicle? Yes, of course they can. You bring up a few solid points of contention but rather than constructively criticizing, you use it as a means to negatively put down Chevrolet and use your own personal bias in doing so. I've owned MANY vehicles and MANY different brands. Every manufacturer has their strengths and weaknesses. Is this an off road 4x4 mid-sized truck? Yes, 100%. It's THE MAIN attraction to this vehicle for potential owners yet all you ever did to show any suspension inspired testing in your "review" is to do a teenager inspired burn out on wet pavement and drive from side to side on a wet road. Your review is a big let down sir.
The only dislike I have for my 2019 Colorado is the manual sliding rear window. I honestly think there is no point in having a sliding rear window if it can't be used because 95% of the time the driver is the only person in the vehicle.
I bought a 2018 ZR2 , ex cab, when brand new, dark red, I have had numerous compliments on it's looks, one from the wife of a Ford guy, I have owned 4 other Colorado's since they came out, 2 with V8 motors, I would have preferred they stayed with the V8, but the V6 does fine, the worse thing about it is the oil filter, you can't even see it. I would buy a new one if they make a better one, they haven't yet I am surprised at the negative comments about the interior? don't know what they could do much different to make it better ?
Why it does not have paddleshits and it has a smallest touchscreen in the world pickups? Why it does not have start/stop engine? I do not like that ZR2. Thank you. Dr. Luis Amador
So much incorrect information in this video. And saying “you can take the truck 6 feet in the air and smash it” would result in having to buy a new truck. There is not a single stock truck on the market that can do that. Raptor and trx included.
Honest question, I’m new to the truck game and from Canada (if that has any relevance) and I’m wondering why colorados and most midsized trucks are considered cheap, but they’re not much cheaper if at all, than full size trucks. Thanks!
We’re from 🇨🇦 too. In general terms, the smaller trucks never used to pull a decent amount of weight, so they were always considered kind of cheap and useless. However that changing as the newer midsize trucks can pretty much pull the older half tons could. That’s one of 3 possible parts to the equation. The other 2 would be that they just look smaller and that the volume of them sold can’t provide strong enough rates/buybacks to compete with the regular F150’s of the world. Possible answers… I’m sure they are more.
I feel like the 308 HP is negated by the 274 lb/tq. Had the tq also been in the 310 area then it would feel stronger, especially with bigger/heavier tires and the lift kit. Also better gear ratio like a 4:10.
Back up mirror camera ? I have a Chevy 2500 zr1 it has just a back up camera and it worth less because my driveway and rd are basiclly dirt and stone so the back of tge truck is dirty all the time and therefore dirt is always on the camera..its a truck also ,you haul stuff and with a small bed you will be having to drop the tail hat to fit your 4 wheeler, dirt bike ect.. so two reasons why there is not a back up mirror with a camera
Can you buy this in a extended cab only or do you have to purchase it in a 4 door please comment back because I hate people behind me Thank you very much for this video beautiful truck and I agree with you about the Chevy badging and the camera and the back bumper should have a step That roll bar thing I rather have a back rack so I could put my tool Box back there and I can mount those LED lights to the back rack and it should have a brush guard in the front something just to dress it up a little bit more Please comment back about the extended cab thank you again
everyone laughs at manual keys (non-keyless) nowadays. but as someone who's lost a toyota smart key, let me tell you the $400 replacement cost zings quite a lot. manual keys are not as expensive to replace. and a truck being work site oriented (as much as people like to think they're for driving around town), you're likely to lose a key often... so it makes sense that it's manual key.
I have the 2018 model and looks like they still have not upgraded the interior. Like seriously who uses keys, where is the push button start. Aside from the new grill which looks badass, the rest is exactly the same from 3 years ago.
For it's price it's not terrible, if you want the premium trucks for off roading or otherwise you gotta pay um a fuckign 30 more grand so I'd say this price point is way more acceptable for what you get and what most might use it for. I test drived the z71 and I gotta say was very surprised felt like I was driving a car very smooth and quiet compared to my 10 year old cruze which is loud and bumpy compared to this. I cant afford the other trucks this is my only real option and it's really just gonna be my get me to point A too B vehicle and if we need to buy anything large have a way of transporting it. So overall price wise this is easier on the wallot than the other trucks, it could use more modern features for sure and I think they should upgrade these for free at some point and add more features.
Get rid of the chevy name across the front and have the grill open with what is there with the flow tie. Will look meaner. Happy I stayed with my 2020 ZR2.

@@officermmartinez couldn't agree more. This guy is painful to watch
The multimatic dssv is what sells me. Those shocks are only on high performance vehicles and supercars
This looks frumpy compared to the redesigned Colorado. GLAD I waited!
Cool they make the suspension in America, gotta love it. Super cool, 52k Canadian and 45k U.S. because Canada is in America.
4auto will say it's in 4wd but front axles aren't actually engaged. still 2wd until it senses slip
The only dislike I have for my 2019 Colorado is the manual sliding rear window. I honestly think there is no point in having a sliding rear window if it can't be used because 95% of the time the driver is the only person in the vehicle.
Jeeezzzusss!!! Gawsh! I need this thing! Love the Avalanche look
Is the 2021 Midnight Edition exactly as tall and long as this version? Thanks.
I would buy a new one if they make a better one, they haven't yet
I am surprised at the negative comments about the interior? don't know what they could do much different to make it better ?
Love this truck but you couldn't put in LED headlights GM?
This truck segment would be so much better if they added 2 inches to crew cab and reduced bed by 2 inches to make crew cab usable.
I’m Obsessed with the ZEE-R2 😂😂😂 been my girl for over a year now! 😊
ZED R2
@@tcbiglake even tho I’m in Canada I chose to call it the ZEEEE R2 😎😎😎
Zed sounds very dumb
I like the up to 2022 ZR2 instead of the 2023, even though the 2023/24 has more modern features.
This guy had no idea what he was talking about
I drive a 19 Ford ranger and I’ll say that that truck is the best vehicle Chevy puts out
My son has a blue 2018 ZR2. Great truck.
Love your work!
I like the front grill!
My 2013 Colorado 4x4 LTZ manual trans got that "Backup Mirror Camera".
That’s sick
Your skinny jeans is enough for me to disregard everything you just said.
jajaja. TRUE
Sierra AT4 has the backup mirror camera. Love it. This truck had potential. Other than off roading - it's not enjoyable to drive in the slightest.
Push button start? Keyless entry? Hmmm. $55k is a lot.
Getting into the car with the additional ladder doesn't make you feel manly but starting the car with the key does. 😄😂
Push the four wheel drive button on time then watch your gauge cluster as it says off-road mode on.....than play
Where do you live?

I bought a ford ranger and drove it for about 2 months and didn't like it so I went buy a 2022 colorado ZR2 and I love it. I will never buy a ranger.
I specially like how they're making them look like rams.
Looks nothing like a ram. These also came out before the new Ram revamp which btw Looks like shit. Nice try though.
I was also wondering why chevy/ gmc won't offer a turbo for its v6 & v8 engines.
Does it still have three timing chains, where two are in the front. and the Third one in the back of the engine so you need a complete tear down?
Perfectly said, and boy oh boy does this product have issues, LOTS of them.
Nicest front end Chevy ever developed for pick-ups. This thing competes with Tacoma which uses 90s technology and power train
everyone laughs at manual keys (non-keyless) nowadays. but as someone who's lost a toyota smart key, let me tell you the $400 replacement cost zings quite a lot. manual keys are not as expensive to replace. and a truck being work site oriented (as much as people like to think they're for driving around town), you're likely to lose a key often... so it makes sense that it's manual key.
For what I need, I like basic.i don't need to be confused with fancy stuff
Put together a comparison with the Ford Ranger Tremor package. Compare content/interior for money. Thanks for the review.
If I can get a $20 raise at work then Maybe I can afford something this cool... Dad, three kids, middle class... Confirmed... I want this truck...
You need to play and drive it in off-road mode. So much more fun!
I have the 2018 model and looks like they still have not upgraded the interior. Like seriously who uses keys, where is the push button start. Aside from the new grill which looks badass, the rest is exactly the same from 3 years ago.
Colorado in general great in every aspect only thing it is missing is a Sunroof (Not sure if it has one).
I’m on my second one and it’s not an option. No idea why.
Anything is better than the new BMW front end
HAHA #truth.
Awesome review, Mike, your honesty is much appreciated 👏
If you're talking about the name on the Truck... What about the Range Rover, Is it Old school?
Get rid of the chevy name across the front and have the grill open with what is there with the flow tie. Will look meaner. Happy I stayed with my 2020 ZR2.
No thatd be hideous it’s fine as is and most would agree
