    The heyday of commercial radio in the mid-'70s. Increasingly restricted in what they could broadcast, Piccadilly was one of the better ones with bits of pirate DNA squeezing through. Beacon, Trent, Victory and Capital were the others with Beacon almost losing its franchise in 1979 because it broke so many of the regulations. Victory did lose its franchise in a bitter fight.

      Beacon Radio was ahead of it's time, the very slick American sound was unheard of on ILR at that time.

      i listened to beacon 303 in stoke on trent..and won some records using the phone box up the street..no mobiles back then
