Sweeneys knowledge of music is second to none. Always liked how he remebered local venues, who played, who supported etc. Should all be indexed in a book!

Mike was 34 and married with a child on this clip. Hardly rock and roll. Lead singer in a naff pub band.

I remember Mike on what used to be London’s Capital Gold late 1990’s, “Sweeneys 60’s Classics”, “Ready, Steady Go” and “At the Hop”. Brilliant programmes, Mike’s 60’s musical knowledge is second to none. I especially liked that he played rare tracks from the 60’s. Had a few phone conversations with him, he even took the time out to phone me back at home a couple of times to give me info on rare 60’s mod groups/tracks that I was researching. A truly excellent radio DJ and presenter, who has a natural talent of making his listeners feel really valued. I even won a few prizes on his competitions !

@ Brian Bunn 3604: I listened to him faithfully every night, Brian. A great person and his shows were excellent. He also sang in a lineup of the Mindbenders in the 1990s.

Top bloke, wasn't keen on his Manc/Salford accent but the quality music he played on his Piccadilly show back in the early '80's was excellent and made up for his voice lol. He really opened my eyes to the fact there was more to music than the boring shite top 40. I will never forget him playing Ivans Meads - Sins of a family ( an obscure 60's track by a Manchester band ). Great memories. I believe he is still broadcasting, not at Piccadilly though. I saw his band, Salford Jets once or twice too, not a bad night out!

Oh the memories...The jingles used to go....."Piccadilly Radiooooo"....."Nobody does it better"... "261meters medium wave.....stereooo 97"... lol.... Then the MW and FM bands were re-jigged and it was 1152khz and 103FM... No Timmy on the Tranny clips on here?...Back when a Tranny was your radio.

I met him recently at Winstanley College. He was comparing the Radio Four - Any Questions programme. I had chat with him afterwards, he very approachable and we reminisced about when he worked for Capital Gold fifteen years earlier. A down-to-Earth guy and we shook hands afterwards. Top Banana !!

Infantile. He reminds me of the northern types who go to the Balearic Islands for a "lively" holiday. Thank goodness we were saved from this guy broadcasting to rest of the UK.
